After Becoming the Love-Brained Female Lead’s Best Friend - Chapter 35
On Wednesday, Fang Shu handed the questions she had done the previous night to Ye Wanyin. Since morning reading had not started yet, Ye Wanyin opened them and took a look.
This time, Fang Shu had clearly done much more than before. In just one night, she had already completed more than half of the questions Ye Wanyin had assigned her last night. The rest were probably questions she did not know how to do.
Although Ye Wanyin had not yet checked the accuracy of the questions Fang Shu had done, just seeing the notebook almost filled with content made Ye Wanyin feel as if an unprecedented sense of satisfaction had enveloped her. The corners of her mouth could not help lifting.
Fang Shu sat beside her. At one glance, she saw the corners of Ye Wanyin’s mouth rise because she had done many questions. Unknowingly infected by the other girl, Fang Shu’s mood visibly improved too.
“I saw the two of you mysteriously smiling at each other from outside. What’s going on? Finally looking at each other the right way?”
Before Ye Wanyin could react, she saw Fang Shu swiftly pull a book from the desk. Without even checking whether it was an English book, Fang Shu opened it directly, putting on an appearance of studying seriously before morning reading had even begun.
The homeroom teacher knocked on her desk. “No need to pretend. I’m not blind.”
Then she raised her voice. “What are all of you standing there for? Do I need to invite you to start morning reading?”
As the sparse sounds of recitation rose in the classroom, the morning reading bell finally rang.
Fang Shu casually placed the textbook she had randomly grabbed on top of the pile, then stretched out her hand and began searching through the stack of books one by one for her English textbook.
Fang Shu only cherished the novels and comics she bought herself. As for textbooks, study guides, workbooks, and the like, she tidied them very casually. Book after book was piled together without regard for order or direction. Fang Shu guessed that yesterday, she had probably forgotten to place the side labeled “English Textbook” facing herself, so now finding it was actually a little difficult.
Ye Wanyin had already started reading aloud.
Five minutes later, Ye Wanyin looked toward Fang Shu. Fang Shu was no longer stubbornly stretching out her hand and using her eyes to search. She had begun moving the books down one by one, attempting to find the English textbook hidden among them.
While she was doing this, the homeroom teacher happened to stroll in from outside. Seeing the surface of Fang Shu’s desk, her originally relaxed brows instantly furrowed tightly. “Fang Shu, can’t you tidy your things after class?”
Fang Shu looked sincerely at their homeroom teacher and said, “It’s not that I want to tidy them now. I can’t find my English textbook.”
Hearing this, the homeroom teacher’s brows furrowed even tighter. She watched Fang Shu seriously searching for her book. Unfortunately, she was not the English teacher, so she could not lend Fang Shu her lesson plan to use for a while.
And so Fang Shu watched the homeroom teacher hesitate, stop, hesitate again, and in the end, the teacher could only say with a displeased face, “Then hurry up and find it. Don’t delay morning reading.”
After saying that, she walked away in a very unhappy mood.
Seeing the homeroom teacher gradually walk farther away, Ye Wanyin stopped reciting English words. Then she looked at the textbooks already filling Fang Shu’s arms, took all the books from Fang Shu’s hands, and let her continue searching.
Without the pressure in her hands, Fang Shu immediately felt much lighter. She gathered all the remaining books in front of her and searched through them from top to bottom. Finally, she found the English textbook between two books, with the side bearing the title facing directly toward Fang Shu.
Fang Shu fell silent for a moment.
The reason Fang Shu had not seen it before was because it was not only wedged between two books, but the spine was also stuck in the middle of the stack. Unless one looked from the front seat toward the back, it really was not easy to notice.
Seeing that she had found it, Ye Wanyin also breathed a sigh of relief. Then, after Fang Shu aligned and organized the textbooks before putting them back, Ye Wanyin handed her the portion she was holding.
By the time Fang Shu finished all of this, one third of morning reading had already passed.
Ye Wanyin withdrew her attention and continued memorizing her own vocabulary. However, after reciting for several minutes, she still did not hear any movement from beside her. Ye Wanyin had no choice but to raise her attention again and look at the scene beside her.
Fang Shu was staring at the open English textbook in front of her with the kind of gaze where ten thousand words passed before her eyes but none entered her heart. Occasionally, a few words jumped out of her mouth, but they were quiet and half-hearted.
Ye Wanyin: “…”
Ye Wanyin reached her hand over and patted Fang Shu’s textbook. Fang Shu raised her head and glanced at her. Ye Wanyin used her eyes to signal for her to memorize vocabulary. Fang Shu stared at her for a few seconds, then stretched her hand onto Ye Wanyin’s desk. Borrowing the sound of everyone reading aloud around them, she said to Ye Wanyin, “I’m so tired.”
Ye Wanyin was no longer the stunned blockhead from yesterday who did not understand what Fang Shu meant. The moment she heard it, she understood that Fang Shu wanted to recharge.
But understanding was one thing. Actually hearing it was another.
Ye Wanyin tried to remind Fang Shu, “The day has only just begun.”
Fang Shu pointed at the pile of books she had organized. Usually, she placed them however fate decided. Only when she occasionally could not find a book would she tidy them a little. Although it was only occasional, for Fang Shu, even this “occasional” amount of labor was already quite a lot.
Of course—
Fang Shu looked at her.
Meeting Fang Shu’s straightforward and easy-to-understand gaze, Ye Wanyin lasted less than a minute in the stalemate before compromising.
Fang Shu’s hand was very pale, her joints slender. When it rested completely relaxed in Ye Wanyin’s hand, Ye Wanyin could feel the other girl’s hand being wrapped in hers.
Ye Wanyin began massaging it. At the same time, Fang Shu finally sat up straight, her gaze fixed on the colorful page in front of her.
Ye Wanyin quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
Ye Wanyin had not really known how to massage before. She only kept mechanically repeating the motions of kneading and pressing. Later, while massaging, she even started reading her book.
And so, when Ye Wanyin came back to herself, she realized she had unknowingly forgotten to massage Fang Shu’s hand for who knew how long. Her thumb and index finger were still inserted between Fang Shu’s fingers, while the rest of her fingers had probably been assigned one finger each earlier out of greed for speed. Now they were scattered between Fang Shu’s fingers. At first glance, it looked a little like their fingers were interlocked.
Perhaps because she had been staring for too long, Ye Wanyin watched with her own eyes as Fang Shu suddenly curled her fingers.
This time, their fingers were thoroughly interlocked.
Ye Wanyin was just about to let go when she felt Fang Shu use a little strength. It was not much, but it stopped Ye Wanyin’s movement of pulling her hand away.
After a while, Fang Shu passed over a note.
This plug works.
Ye Wanyin froze for a moment before realizing that the “plug” Fang Shu was talking about was herself.
However, seeing that Fang Shu had finally stopped making random jokes and was seriously memorizing, Ye Wanyin let her be.
All morning, Ye Wanyin used the breaks between classes to explain questions to Fang Shu, while Fang Shu idly played with Ye Wanyin’s fingers to recharge.
When Ye Wanyin was explaining a certain question, Fang Shu suddenly tilted her head to the side and lay on the desk without moving.
Ye Wanyin looked at her somewhat dazed gaze. Even the hand that had been playing with Ye Wanyin’s fingers all this time loosened weakly. Ye Wanyin’s heart immediately gave a thud. Then she leaned over and reached out to touch Fang Shu’s forehead—it was not especially hot.
Ye Wanyin was just about to withdraw her hand in confusion when she suddenly heard Fang Shu, who was lying there, say, “You’re supposed to check temperature forehead to forehead.”
Ye Wanyin: “…”
Ye Wanyin was already certain that Fang Shu did not have a fever. Looking at Fang Shu, who had suddenly fallen into a wilted state, she could not help furrowing her brows in confusion.
Fang Shu slowly scooted her chair toward Ye Wanyin’s side at turtle speed. Ye Wanyin could not figure out the answer herself, so she could only ask Fang Shu, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Fang Shu slowly shook her head. Then, with a face that looked half-dead, she said to Ye Wanyin, “My battery is drained.”
Ye Wanyin, who had racked her brains and still could not figure out why Fang Shu had suddenly wilted: “…”
Fang Shu looked at Ye Wanyin pitifully with a gaze that was not very energetic at the moment.
Ye Wanyin: “…”
Another look.
Ye Wanyin: “…………”
Fang Shu silently moved an inch farther away from Ye Wanyin. She felt as if she heard crows cawing.
The kind that came in endless rows and would not stop.
Ye Wanyin recalled how she had held Fang Shu’s hand every break between classes. Ye Wanyin, who never cursed, felt as if a certain plant was now held in her mouth—she could not swallow it, but she could not spit it out either. In the end, she looked at Fang Shu with an extremely aggrieved expression.
“I’ve never heard of anyone charging and still not getting enough battery.”
Fang Shu remained sprawled there, using her actions to prove that her battery was already drained. “That’s because you were playing while charging.”
Her tone was still weak and powerless.
Ye Wanyin swallowed that certain plant down again with difficulty. “Even if you play while charging, it should still charge at least a little. It shouldn’t just run out of power the moment you say it’s out.”
Fang Shu glanced at Ye Wanyin, who was trying to reason with her, then said, “When a phone has been used for too long, its power consumption becomes faster than its charging speed.”
Ye Wanyin: “…”
