After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 20
With only one week left until the school’s travel-study activity, Lin Chen and Lin Xi had already stayed up late to finish most of the packing. Although Lin Chen had given Lin Xi a small bag for her own things, she still managed to pack most of her daughter’s items herself while organizing.
She didn’t want to dampen Lin Xi’s enthusiasm, but she also didn’t want any oversights to ruin the trip.
All that was left now were Yun Qi’s clothes.
This past week hadn’t been particularly pleasant for Yun Qi. She had been helping her uncle, Grand Duke Yun Lan, investigate a case.
A minor Baron named Milan had died. His body was found in a river, bloated and pale from the water.
By the time Milan’s body was discovered, he had been missing for five days, but his family hadn’t reported it. Milan frequently vanished for days at a time; initially, his wife would worry, but she always found him at some Omega’s house or a “special venue,” so she eventually grew accustomed to the Alpha’s irregular disappearances.
This time was no different. They assumed Milan was off fooling around with another Omega, only to find he had died in the river.
Normally, the death of a mere Baron wouldn’t reach Grand Duke Yun Lan, but Milan’s mother happened to be a former classmate of Bai Mingshu. She came to Bai Mingshu in tears, begging her to find justice for her son.
Thinking of her own children, Bai Mingshu empathized; if her child suddenly died, she would likely feel the same. So, she went to her own Alpha.
Grand Duke Yun Lan then dragged Yun Qi into it, feeling that his niece had been “drifting” lately. He hoped this case would help restore Yun Qi’s reputation.
Yun Qi’s heart was full of refusal. I am a world-class Scum Alpha, I am cold-blooded and cruel, I love using power to suppress others—I don’t need to change my image!
However, under the pressure of Yun Lan’s authority, she humbly succumbed.
During the investigation, Yun Qi discovered that Milan’s mother viewed her son through a ten-layer filter.
This world is incredibly unfair to Omegas and Betas; an Alpha can marry multiple partners. To protect the rights of Omegas and Betas after marriage, the law “kindly” stipulates that an Alpha must treat all married partners equally—if he buys something for one, he must buy it for all.
As for Beta-Omega relationships, the law mandates a Beta can only marry one Omega.
Essentially, it treats Omegas and Betas as resources for Alphas, was Yun Qi’s first thought upon learning these laws.
To find the cause of Milan’s death, the first step was checking for enemies. This search truly opened Yun Qi’s eyes.
In university, Milan had fiercely pursued an Omega senior one year ahead of him. She was a medical major whose mother had died of an incurable genetic disease, so she was determined to study medicine to conquer difficult ailments. She was indeed gifted and performed excellently in her mentor’s lab.
She was also a staunch celibate, wishing to dedicate her life to her ideals. She repeatedly rejected Milan’s advances, until one day she vanished. The word from her family was that she had married and left school—a narrative that fit the world’s setting where Omegas return to the domestic sphere upon marriage.
The investigation revealed she hadn’t married; she had been beaten to death by Milan in a fit of rage.
Constant rejection made Milan feel he had lost face, so he bought drugs to induce an early heat in an Omega—specifically requesting potent ones—and kidnapped her to his home to use them.
However, after her mother’s death, the senior had secretly undergone surgery to remove her gland, so the drugs had no effect on her.
Her violent resistance angered Milan. He gradually increased his force until she finally stopped fighting. When he finished, he found the person beneath him had become a corpse.
His parents helped him cover it up, burying the incident. There were many similar cases; of the Omegas in Milan’s household, four had been “married” using the same method.
“He got what he deserved!” was the thought of everyone present.
While Milan had harmed many Omegas, he chose commoners who posed no threat to him.
Yun Qi followed her uncle to check surveillance. During the initial days of Milan’s disappearance, he had stayed with an Omega from the “Little White Building,” just as his family suspected.
Xu Jilin questioned that Omega, who said Milan seemed to have spotted a “new prey” and left—without even paying.
Surveillance footage also captured the moment of Milan’s death. The Alpha was walking normally on the street when he suddenly began to convulse, rolled into the river, and never resurfaced.
The autopsy report arrived: Milan died of a “pheromone riot.” To Yun Qi’s surprise, this wasn’t drug-induced.
Nowadays, very few Alphas die of this cause. After generations of research, Alphas are injected with a preventative vaccine at birth.
The final conclusion was that Milan had forced too many Omegas who were on potent drugs, and his own body had been affected by those substances over time.
Grand Duke Yun Lan didn’t want to dig further. He only investigated because he couldn’t withstand his wife’s tears, but Milan’s actions filled him with loathing. Now that the result was out, he planned to drop it.
“Any thoughts?” Grand Duke Yun Lan asked Yun Qi in the car.
Yun Qi snapped back to reality, looking at her uncle in confusion.
“Don’t waste your mind on deviant paths or get obsessed with petty romances.” Grand Duke Yun Lan had long been dissatisfied with Yun Qi’s chaotic love life.
In his heart, his niece was still that gentle, polite child. He believed her parents’ death had caused her personality shift, and that time would heal her until she returned to her old self.
Besides, he had noticed Yun Qi’s recent changes.
Yun Qi nodded, replying that she understood.
Grand Duke Yun Lan was a very stern man, much like her grandfather from her past life. Facing him made her subconsciously straighten her back and sit properly.
Back at the mansion, Yun Qi didn’t go to the study or bedroom; she sat quietly in the living room.
When Lin Chen returned from work, she found Yun Qi observing her discreetly.
So, has she finally seen the light? No Omega dislikes being watched by an Alpha they like.
But Yun Qi did nothing other than watch secretly. Usually, Yun Qi would mock her with a few lines to prove she’d never like her; today, she said nothing and simply returned to her bedroom in silence.
Alphas are truly strange creatures, and mine is particularly unique.
Lin Chen shook her head with a smile.
In the Bedroom
“They look very similar, don’t you think, Little Scum?” While reviewing Milan’s footage, Yun Qi noticed an Omega in the corner who looked somewhat like Lin Chen. She paid closer attention and found he had exchanged a look with Milan, which was when Milan left.
But that was a male. Moreover, during Milan’s disappearance, it was Lin Chen’s special period; Yun Qi had been holding her almost the entire time. Lin Chen couldn’t have slipped out.
She didn’t tell her uncle about this discovery, fearing it might implicate her Omega.
As for the pheromone riot—in the plot Yun Qi knew, the organization Lin Chen and Mu Yu led later specialized in developing drugs targeting Alphas, with Yi Fei being the most prominent…
But Yi Fei had vanished. Perhaps this incident was related to her as well.
In the original plot, they used new drugs to assassinate several decisive Alphas, but the Imperial doctors couldn’t detect the ingredients, assuming the deaths were accidents.
[To my eyes, you humans all look the same. There’s no difference.]
“Fine.”
[Your Scum Value is now enough to buy the Basic Body Strengthening Agent. It will enhance your sensory perception and physical potential.]
“It’s enough already?” In Yun Qi’s memory, she hadn’t added much Scum Value recently.
[Yes. I’m afraid if you don’t buy it, you’ll die before finishing the plot,] the system said coolly.
“…” Yun Qi felt slighted, but she humbly accepted the advice.
Compared to native Alphas, her control over this body was indeed lacking, and she wasn’t proficient with her inherent strength.
Opening the System Mall, the top left showed 116. It was indeed enough.
“Exchange for one Basic Body Strengthening Agent.” That same white snowy owl appeared, dropped the potion on her bed, and left.
“Little Scum, my treasure, I have a tiny question.” Thinking of something, Yun Qi’s voice became extremely fawning.
[?]
“Can this snowy owl be exchanged for?”
In her heart, Yun Qi had always dreamed of being a wizard. She had long desired a beautiful white owl like the one in Harry Potter. This longing hadn’t faded with time; it frequently appeared in her dreams.
In China, keeping owls is illegal, but her grandfather had once bought her one abroad. It lived in a villa overseas, but it didn’t understand human speech, which fell far short of her expectations.
Now, a snowy owl that perfectly matched her ideals was right in front of her!
She had been tempted the last few times, but she wasn’t sure if it was a living creature. Just now, she had reached out and given it a quick pet—it was warm and soft. She felt it must be real.
[Sure, it’s my duty to fulfill the Host’s wishes.] The system was speechless; it actually thought she was going to ask something important. But it answered her cheerfully.
“!” Yun Qi was visibly overjoyed.
[But it’s only available for exchange once you reach the Second Layer.]
A bucket of cold water was poured over her. Thinking of that astronomical figure, Yun Qi stiffened for a moment.
The impression of the system being “dog-like” deepened in her mind once again.
[Best to sit on the bed before drinking it,] the system prompted.
“?”
Puzzled, Yun Qi complied.
It tasted somewhat sweet. After drinking it, she felt no immediate change.
[5, 4, 3…] The system began a countdown in her head.
When it reached 1, Yun Qi felt a tearing pain. She collapsed onto the bed, feeling as if something were carving into her body. It hurt so much she didn’t even have the strength to scream.
By the time the agonizing pain vanished, Yun Qi was so exhausted she drifted straight into sleep.
