After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 3
The moment she saw Yun Qi at the Lin residence, Lin Chen felt that something was wrong—very wrong.
That Alpha, who was supposed to be at the birthday party of the Omega celebrity Jin Mo, actually appeared at the door holding Xi’er—holding the daughter she considered a stain on her life?
Yes, Lin Chen had known from the very beginning that Yun Qi wouldn’t come.
How could the Omegas in the Empire who were infatuated with Yun Qi miss such a good opportunity to mock her? They “accidentally” passed by Lin Chen, slowing their pace to excitedly discuss how many famous people were at Jin Mo’s birthday party, before loudly announcing Yun Qi’s name.
Their malicious gazes fell upon Lin Chen; they wanted to see a devastated Omega.
‘So what if you married the Grand Duke based on a childhood betrothal? So what if you gave birth to a child? You still don’t have the Grand Duke’s favor.’ Perhaps that was what they were thinking.
To their disappointment, however, the Omega under their scrutiny remained as flat and indifferent as ever.
This couldn’t help but make the crowd of scandal-seeking Omega ladies a bit exasperated. “Some people are disliked for a reason—don’t know how to act cute, don’t know how to get jealous, just dull and wooden. No wonder the Alpha lost interest so quickly.”
It was a strange sight, wasn’t it? People with similar appearances, yet because of their different secondary genders, one group could occupy high positions and hold great power, exercising so-called legal control through religion, public opinion, spirit, material wealth, and morality. They used these methods to control the other group until it became a habit, and eventually, a custom.
As for the other group, they contentedly identified with this ideology, accepting their status as subordinates, with every action revolving around Alphas.
Lin Chen had discovered from a young age that she was different from other Omegas. She didn’t want to be a weak dodder flower; she wanted to control others. She wanted the person she cared about to have joys and sorrows that revolved entirely around her.
She did not like things that belonged to her to be tainted by the scent of others.
But she was too weak. she could only build up her strength and use “dullness” to disguise herself, like a quiet tiger cub lurking in the darkness before its claws and fangs had fully grown.
She was awake when Yun Qi came in.
She originally thought that the wicked Alpha had come to carry out the punishment that wasn’t completed during the day; she didn’t expect her to come to apply medicine.
The sedative effect of the ointment applied to her back gradually took hold. Even though Lin Chen wanted to keep thinking for a while, she ultimately couldn’t resist the drug’s effect and slowly fell into a dreamland…
On her second day in this world, Yun Qi finally felt a sense of familiarity—the “marriage nagging” from an elder!
Different world, same elders.
Yun Qi was woken up early in the morning by the ringing of her communicator. It was a call from the original body’s aunt—the wife of Yun Qi’s uncle, Grand Duke Yun Lan. Although the original body’s personality had become tyrannical and arrogant, in her aunt’s eyes, Yun Qi was still the young child who had lost her parents and needed care from her elders.
She told Yun Qi that a famous Imperial diviner had suddenly sent a servant with a calling card, saying she would visit in the afternoon and specifically asking to see her. At the end of the call, she hinted that she hoped Yun Qi would come alone.
The old Yun Qi didn’t believe in weird ghosts and gods, but now that something as ridiculous as transmigration had happened, she felt a slight sense of awe toward these mysterious existences.
But if the diviner wanted to see her, why not come directly to her own Ducal Mansion?
“Little Scum, do you think someone can really divine the future?” Yun Qi found information about this diviner in her memories. She had appeared out of nowhere; no one knew her name. She had predicted several major disasters for the Empire before retiring from public view.
[There are…] The system hesitated slightly. [I once went to a magical plane with a previous host where a wizard predicted my existence.]
“!” Yun Qi was surprised. “And what happened after that?”
The system fell into a long silence and did not answer Yun Qi’s question.
Yun Qi didn’t dwell on it too much. She first went to Lin Chen’s room. The curtains were drawn tight; even though the sun was high outside, the room remained dark. The petite Omega was curled up in a fluffy quilt, showing only her tightly closed eyes.
Yun Qi mischievously pulled the quilt down a bit. The Omega seemed to sense it and shrunk her body downward as well.
Yun Qi found it adorable and pulled the quilt down again; Lin Chen kept shrinking down…
After repeating this a few times, the little Omega was about to retreat off the end of the bed before the person suppressing her laughter finally stopped.
In her sleep, Lin Chen didn’t have the defensive posture she held while awake; she just slept soundly on the bed, looking extremely cute.
[Ding ding ding! The system has detected that the host’s behavior violates the original character setting.] The system, which had been playing dead, bubbled up at an inopportune moment.
“I’m intentionally disturbing Lin Chen’s sleep. Although ‘Yun Qi’ stopped punishing Lin Chen so she could keep betting with friends, she can’t let her recover comfortably. Doing little things from time to time to keep her from sleeping peacefully—isn’t that scummy?” Yun Qi said righteously. To shut the system up, she added, “Little Scum, you still haven’t answered the question I asked you earlier.”
The system went back underwater.
Yun Qi gently brushed a few strands of hair sticking to Lin Chen’s cheek onto the pillow. The delicate, soft touch felt like silk.
The years are quiet, and the world is stable.
Yun Qi suddenly froze. A flush climbed up her cheeks. Lin Chen… Lin Chen had just rubbed her face against her hand!
She quickly pulled her hand back. Even though there were only two people in the room, she subconsciously looked left and right, then guiltily and quietly left the room.
Quickly walking back to her own bedroom and closing the door, Yun Qi finally breathed a sigh of relief. Even though she hadn’t done anything, she inexplicably felt like a thief who had just tried to “steal a fragrance.”
She patted her face, muttered a few words, and then tidied herself up to head to her aunt’s house.
Grand Duke Yun Lan’s mansion was very similar to the man himself—a kind of rational beauty emphasizing order and grandeur. The interior decoration was primarily Baroque, using exaggerated movement and a variety of ornaments, including large areas of carving and gold leaf. On the vaulted ceiling of the hall of mirrors was a massive oil painting of Yun Lan and his wife. The mansion overall gave a sense of magnificence and luxury.
In the hall sat a noble lady—Yun Qi’s aunt, Bai Mingshu.
“Hello, Auntie.”
She was very happy to see Yun Qi and pulled her into an embrace.
“I’ve told you so many times, don’t be so formal. Just look at me as your mother.”
Yun Qi felt a bit awkward; she had never been this close to anyone else. In the modern world, she was born into a cold family. Her parents’ marriage was a family alliance; they each had lovers outside. After giving birth to the heir, Yun Qi, neither of them came home much. Her grandfather, who took her in to educate her, was a stern man—though he loved Yun Qi dearly, he wasn’t as warm and outward as Bai Mingshu.
“Your uncle is a busy man. He just went to see your Emperor Uncle to discuss the diviner, so he couldn’t wait for you at home,” Bai Mingshu explained Yun Lan’s absence.
“Yes, Uncle has always been extremely good to me.”
“Qi’er,” Bai Mingshu paused. “Look, your brother is only a year older than you and already has two babies at home.”
Yun Qi had a bad premonition.
“Then look at you. You’re a grown adult and only have Lin Chen at home. I saw her last time; she doesn’t look like someone who knows how to care for others. And you only have one child, Lin Xi. This huge Ducal Mansion is so lonely and cold.”
With that, Bai Mingshu took out a stack of photos, all of beautiful young men and women.
“These are all the single Omegas in the Imperial Capital with good family backgrounds that I’ve organized. See if there’s anyone you like; I’ll help you propose a match.”
Yun Qi shook her head frantically. Leaving aside the fact that she only liked girls and had zero interest in young male Omegas, she didn’t like environments that were too noisy. Perhaps because she grew up with her grandfather, Yun Qi preferred quiet people. The Omegas in this world were too energetic; she wasn’t quite used to it.
Moreover, Yun Qi didn’t want her child to be born into a home without love. She didn’t want her child to become a second “her.” Because of the system, she was destined to be a “Scum A” and couldn’t give a child the proper care.
If she had come to this world a bit earlier, Lin Xi might never have been born.
Even if she earned a little less Scum Value, she didn’t want to drag more people down. She always felt a sense of apology toward Lin Chen. But precisely because she knew the plot—that Lin Chen would live happily with Mu Yu later—she could keep that guilt at a manageable level.
“Fine…” Bai Mingshu didn’t give up. Young people don’t like being tied down by family, especially Alphas who are at an age where they care deeply about their careers. She could look for more events held by young people and find a way to trick Yun Qi into attending.
“Whew—” Yun Qi exhaled. Fortunately, her aunt gave up, otherwise she really wouldn’t know how to refuse this kind elder.
“Look at you, scared like that. Am I that terrifying?” Bai Mingshu said, pretending to be angry.
Yun Qi quickly laughed and begged for mercy.
Time flew by while Yun Qi chatted with Bai Mingshu, and in a flash, it was afternoon.
The mysterious diviner was led into the hall by a servant. She requested that everyone except Yun Qi leave.
Yun Qi looked at the person who had specifically asked to see her. The woman wearing a cloak had pitch-black, bright eyes full of wisdom and mystery. Furthermore, she was too young; according to her memories, she should have been an old woman by now.
Is that mysterious gaze because she has glimpsed my heart, or because she sees through my fate? Yun Qi thought secretly.
“You came for an obsession, and you shall finally depart for an obsession. The price has already been paid for you by someone else,” the woman said slowly.
“Do you know the reason I am here?” Yun Qi was somewhat excited. She felt this mysterious diviner might know something she didn’t.
“I am just delivering a message for a friend.” After saying this, the diviner left.
“Little Scum, Little Scum, do you think she knows about your existence too?” Yun Qi asked the system in her mind anxiously, but it did not respond.
However, Yun Qi didn’t have much time to think about it because something more important required her attention.
Her communicator rang. The person on the other end said her wife had been caught “seducing” her “friend.”
Yun Qi didn’t believe it. She didn’t recall being friends with the other Alpha protagonist of this world. But she still prepared to go and take a look; she was afraid someone was bullying her own quiet, obedient little Omega.
