After Death, I Discovered My Wife Was the Villainess of a Supernatural Novel - Chapter 4
“Splash, splash…”
The torrential rain still showed no sign of stopping.
Mu Zhao’s urn had already been placed in the cemetery. A group of people stood beside her grave with umbrellas in hand, the heavy rain blurring everyone’s expressions.
After the funeral ended and everyone had left, Fu Yushang slowly half-knelt beside the tombstone. It was as though she were speaking to the person sleeping here forever.
“I’m sorry. Did we disturb you? I didn’t expect them to cause such a scene. I thought that, no matter what, they were still your parents…”
“Not at all. You’re the one who was wronged, having to endure their attitude.” Mu Zhao floated beside her and comforted her softly.
The rain washed over the tombstone. Water flowed across the photograph, making it look as though the person in the photo was smiling through tears.
“Zhaozhao, don’t worry. No matter who the murderer is, I will make them pay the price. I will send every single killer to be buried with you.” Fu Yushang wiped the water from the photo with her hand, but the water could not be wiped clean. So she leaned her own umbrella against the tombstone. The pouring rain naturally fell onto her body instead, water sliding down her face, making it impossible to tell whether it was rain or tears.
Every word she said was serious—so serious that it made people believe that if the murderer appeared before her, she really would kill them directly. Behind those eyes reddened from days of sleeplessness, behind that calm expression, was a dangerous emotion that made one’s heart tremble.
“Senior…” Mu Zhao felt as if her heart had suddenly clenched. This could not go on. Why did Senior’s mental state seem a little frightening…? And even if the weather was not cold right now, standing in the rain like this would still make her sick!
Although… Mu Zhao really did want the murderer who killed her to receive the punishment they deserved, if the price was putting the person she cared about in danger and seriously affecting her life, then Mu Zhao would rather not have revenge at all.
Besides… what if the reason she had not been able to figure out before—the reason Senior was connected to those people—was because Senior had been investigating the murderer for her sake…
Please, please let it not be that!
But other than that reason, Mu Zhao truly could not understand why her beautiful and kind-hearted Senior would have any connection to those criminals who killed and robbed people.
But there was no one who could help Mu Zhao pass on this worry. What should she do?
No—there was one person who could!
Mu Zhao almost forgot about one person: the righteous female lead who could see ghosts! Wasn’t she supposed to appear near her funeral?! Where was she now? Once Mu Zhao found the female lead, she could at least help convey her wishes: that Senior should live well from now on, that she should leave revenge to Sister Yushu, and that when facing those two shameless rogues, she should not soften her heart and did not need to care about them.
So where was the precious female lead? Mu Zhao looked at Fu Yushang, who was still standing in the rain, and grew anxious. She turned her head, preparing to search nearby. However, she forgot what kind of place this was. Before she could even leave the cemetery, she was surrounded by several fierce and vicious ghosts.
Those ghosts had rather unique appearances. Some had no heads, while others had a huge hole in their stomachs. Their bodies were covered in blackish-red energy, and their eyes glowed scarlet. One look was enough to tell that they did not have much sanity left. The moment they saw Mu Zhao, drool started streaming from their mouths.
Without sunlight to deter them, some powerful ghosts could appear even during the day, especially in a cemetery where yin energy was so strong.
“B-Big brothers? My flesh doesn’t taste good! It’s sour and tough. Could you maybe be a little picky?” Mu Zhao smiled ingratiatingly at the ghosts, still hoping they could be a little more refined in their eating habits.
Of course, they could not possibly agree! When someone had been hungry for days, even chaff tasted fragrant! The ghosts and monsters opened their mouths wide and charged over to bite Mu Zhao. Mu Zhao was so frightened she let out an “Awoo!” and turned to run!
She did not know whether ghosts could cry tears, but Mu Zhao felt that she was running so fast her eye juice was about to be flung out. If only she had run the 800 meters at this speed back in university, she would never have needed to retake it a second time!
Mu Zhao could already smell the foul breath of the ghosts behind her and nearly rolled her eyes back from being smoked unconscious. But their heavy breathing had already landed on her shoulder, so even if she wanted to faint, she did not dare!
She did not know how long she ran. When Mu Zhao came back to her senses, she realized that the movement behind her had disappeared. Since she was a ghost now and was not afraid of bumping into anything, she kept running while turning her head to glance back.
Those fierce and vicious ghosts had stopped in the distance, hesitating and refusing to move forward.
It looked as though they wanted to chase her, but perhaps they were wary of something and did not dare come over.
Mu Zhao stopped and raised her middle finger at the ghosts.
“You little trash chickens! Bleh, bleh, bleh!” After Mu Zhao finished speaking, the ghosts suddenly took several steps back.
Mu Zhao froze. Could it be that they had been scared off by her legendary domineering aura?
She tentatively took a step forward, and the four ghosts retreated again, as if avoiding something.
Before Mu Zhao could feel happy, she saw a black figure brush past her. Even in the pouring rain, the person held no umbrella. It was Fu Yushang, walking out of the cemetery.
As Fu Yushang drew closer, the ghosts retreated even faster. Mu Zhao finally reacted and hurriedly stuck close behind Fu Yushang.
Sure enough, after that, even though the ghosts drooled at her, they only dared to retreat farther and farther away, not daring to approach even half a step.
The ghosts did not dare approach because of Fu Yushang. Although Mu Zhao did not understand the principle behind it, there was no denying that Senior had saved her little life again!
“Wuwuwu…” Mu Zhao cried and followed behind Fu Yushang. Even though she knew Fu Yushang could not hear her, she thanked her again and again. “Thank you, Senior! You’re my savior! You saved me when I was alive, and after I died, you still saved me! Wuwuwu… Meeting you was the luckiest thing that ever happened to me!”
The secretary waiting for Fu Yushang outside the cemetery saw her President Fu walk out just like that, drenched by the heavy rain, and hurriedly rushed forward to shield her from it.
She did not dare ask anything either.
A car was parked not far away. Mu Zhao recognized it as Fu Yushu’s. In the rain, Fu Yushu held an umbrella and looked over at them until Fu Yushang got into the car.
“Tap, tap…”
The sound of shoes stepping through water came over. A woman holding an umbrella, her left arm in a cast and her left eye covered in gauze, stood behind Fu Yushu.
“Director Fu! I’m Kou Zishu, newly reporting to the Second Division!” Her voice was loud and full of presence. Her expression carried a stubbornness that would rather break than bend. Even with one eye covered, it did not diminish her beauty in the slightest. Standing there in the pouring rain, she seemed to brighten the place slightly.
With such an extraordinary entrance, she was definitely an important character!
The female lead, Kou Zishu! Mu Zhao screamed internally like a groundhog and hurriedly rushed forward, waving her hands in hopes that the other party could see her. However, at that moment, she noticed that Kou Zishu’s left eye—the one that had yin-yang sight—was covered with gauze.
Oh, right. Before her funeral, the female lead had been injured during a mission. Because her personality was too straightforward, her previous superior disliked her, so they took the opportunity to transfer her to another post.
Only after her injury healed and the gauze was removed would the female lead discover that her left eye could see strange things…
Which meant that the female lead could not help her at all right now! Mu Zhao felt as though she had been struck by lightning.
The sound of an engine came from behind her. When Mu Zhao saw that Senior’s car was about to leave, she hurriedly rushed into it.
However, when the car started moving, the car left, but Mu Zhao remained where she was…
She had forgotten that, right now, she could pass through anything. She could not ride in a car at all!
“…Senior, wait for me! You left me behind!” Mu Zhao desperately chased after the car, but her speed still could not compare to a car. Before long, she was left far behind.
Thinking of the four starving big brothers behind her, Mu Zhao did not dare stop for even a moment. She ran forward, following her memory of the way there, and made her way back home.
Fortunately, she did not encounter any strange “big cuties” along the way. After Mu Zhao returned home, she let out a long sigh of relief.
After finishing her “marathon,” Mu Zhao felt several degrees weaker and floated onto the sofa, not wanting to move.
A while later, Fu Yushang, who had probably gone back to the company to handle some matters before returning, opened the door. Mu Zhao instinctively sat up straight with a whoosh. Then, after realizing no one could see her, she simply let herself float around freely.
“Senior, chasing cars really is a physical activity!”
Fu Yushang opened the door. The room was pitch-black, so when a small black thing flashed past, she nearly stepped on it.
“Coal Ball…” Fu Yushang’s voice carried a trace of weakness.
She bent down, picked up the little black thing, and held it in her arms. “Don’t hide behind the door. You’re so black that we won’t see you and might step on you.”
“If your mommy were still here, she would definitely nag me… telling me to call you twice when I come in.”
“Senior, you have to call Coal Ball twice when you come in! It’s so black that you might accidentally step on it!” Mu Zhao’s voice overlapped with Fu Yushang’s. She froze. How could she fail to hear the deep sorrow in Senior’s tone?
The fluffy little black cat kept meowing and struggled a little in Fu Yushang’s arms.
Because Mu Zhao had not come back these past few days, Coal Ball had been listless the whole time.
“But your mommy won’t come back anymore…” After Fu Yushang said that, her own eyes reddened first.
“Meow?”
Mu Zhao looked at the little stray black cat she had picked up and raised. She realized that its eyes seemed a little strange. It seemed to be looking straight at her?
Mu Zhao moved to the left, and the little cat’s head moved along with her…
Then Coal Ball nimbly jumped out of Fu Yushang’s arms and came up beside Mu Zhao’s spirit body. It wanted to rub affectionately against its owner like usual, but unexpectedly, it rubbed against empty air!
“Meow, meow?” Coal Ball stepped back a few steps and tilted its head, looking at the owner in front of it in confusion. The puzzled look in its little eyes was especially adorable.
“Oh, Mommy’s little baby! My Coal Ball, you can see me, right?! Mommy knew from the first moment I saw you that my son had extraordinary talent! You’re a unique little kitty!” Mu Zhao excitedly tried to hug the little cat, but unsurprisingly, her hand passed straight through Coal Ball’s body.
“Meow!” Coal Ball was startled and immediately sprang back into Fu Yushang’s arms, looking at Mu Zhao in confusion.
Fu Yushang comforted the frightened, puffed-up cat, not understanding what had gotten into the furry child at home.
I’m already a ghost, so I can’t even enjoy petting cats anymore! Wuwuwu… From now on, aside from admiring Senior’s peerless beauty, is there really nothing else I can do? Mu Zhao wiped away tears that did not exist.
Oh, there was one more thing—as long as the Black and White Impermanence spirits did not come to catch her tonight, the night of her seventh day after death. Otherwise, she would really have no choice but to say to Coal Ball and Senior: See you in the next life…
