After Divorcing the Beautiful Richest Woman, She Fell in Love (GL) - Chapter 25
Lin Feiruo was exhausted today. She had spent several hours in a state of high mental concentration at the forum, taking notes and thinking deeply. After it ended, she had squeezed through the crowd to chat with Dr. Yu for a while, and then she was whisked away by Jian Xiaomin to He Garden for a flurry of activity.
It wasn’t that noticeable while she was busy, but once she actually lay down on the sofa, she realized just how sleepy she was. She wasn’t even picky about a pillow, simply using the decorative cushions already on the sofa. She curled her legs slightly on her side and tucked the blanket up over her shoulders.
Facing Jian Xiyan’s bed, she fought back a yawn by the dim light: “Goodnight.”
As soon as she said it, the suppressed yawn finally broke free, followed by three more in a row.
The person leaning against the headboard watched her, looking as if she wanted to say something, but ultimately just nodded slightly: “Goodnight.”
Jian Xiyan saw that her curled-up sleeping posture looked quite uncomfortable. She had originally intended to find some excuse to send her to a guest room, but she hadn’t expected the woman to fall asleep so quickly.
In the past, when they had played their parts and stayed in the same room, she had never seen Lin Feiruo fall asleep at this speed. Usually, before bed, Lin Feiruo would be clutching her phone, scrolling through news about Yan Shan or quietly messaging her.
Jian Xiyan would observe coldly without exposing her, but she could easily guess from Lin Feiruo’s expressions and sleep speed whether Yan Shan had replied to her or not.
Lin Feiruo hadn’t even touched her phone just now; it was highly irregular. Jian Xiyan thought for a moment and assumed Yan Shan was probably too busy filming to pay her any mind.
Whether it was the effect of that cup of cactus juice or being influenced by the sound of Lin Feiruo’s steady breathing, Jian Xiyan also felt a distinct wave of sleepiness.
This kind of sleepiness was rare for her. Usually, even when she was exhausted, her brain would keep spinning and thinking the moment she closed her eyes, making it impossible to sleep soundly.
Now, every part of her was permeated with fatigue. The stubborn tension settled deep in her bones gradually dissolved, releasing a long-accumulated craving that made her desperately want to sleep.
Jian Xiyan didn’t want to miss such a good opportunity. She immediately turned off the lights and soon fell into a deep sleep, just like Lin Feiruo.
The next morning, the room remained shrouded by heavy curtains, blocking out every sliver of outside light. When Jian Xiyan’s alarm went off, Lin Feiruo’s eyes fluttered open to total darkness.
Up this early! Starting work before dawn?
The first thing that surfaced in Lin Feiruo’s not-yet-fully-awake brain was the profile of “Iron Woman” Jian busy at her desk.
Inexplicably, she felt a bit of pity. Lin Feiruo felt it was necessary to give her a proper piece of advice. Health belongs to oneself; if you ruin your body, what’s the point of earning all that money?
Lin Feiruo felt strongly about this. Ever since she had eight million in her account, she didn’t want to have a single ailment; she hoped to have more time and better health to enjoy life. Once you have money, you cherish your life more—that saying was absolutely true.
With a sense of mission, she woke up quickly. She sat up and threw off the blanket, only then remembering she had “shrunk” on the sofa all night; her legs were sore, and her waist ached a bit too.
As soon as she sat steady, she realized someone was watching her.
She instinctively looked back and found Jian Xiyan in the same position as the night before, leaning against the headboard in her loungewear. Lin Feiruo subconsciously turned toward the desk; it was empty, not looking like it had been occupied.
Looking back at Jian Xiyan, she noticed her long hair was a bit messy and her eyes were slightly misty—just like herself, in a “just woke up” state.
Lin Feiruo scratched her hair and offered a greeting: “Morning.”
“Thank you for your hard work last night.” Jian Xiyan’s voice was a bit raspy, clearly having just woken up.
Her resilient biological clock usually woke Jian Xiyan up three minutes before her alarm. Likely because the sleep quality last night was so high, she had lingered in it a bit and forgotten to turn off the alarm in time.
Seeing Lin Feiruo pounding her legs and stretching her back, Jian Xiyan could easily imagine how much those long legs had suffered while curled up last night.
Lin Feiruo stood up, stamped her feet lightly a few times, and did some simple stretches with a look of indifference: “See? It didn’t really affect me.”
Jian Xiyan pursed her lips and looked down, having no intention of continuing the conversation yet because she hadn’t washed up. In Jian Xiyan’s view, this was very impolite, and their relationship wasn’t close enough to behave so casually.
Thus, she quickly got out of bed and pointed toward the bathroom: “Do you mind if I go first?”
“It’s your house, of course you go first.”
Before long, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. Lin Feiruo sat back on the sofa, remembering the things she hadn’t had time to do yesterday.
Last night’s forum was a success. Several of the guest speakers were high-caliber and unique. Dr. Yu Qingci’s speech was the most vivid and popular, interrupted several times by sheer applause. Lin Feiruo had been busy taking notes and clapping at the same time. But the gains were significant; besides several wellness tips recommended by Dr. Yu, she had even managed to get the doctor’s business card.
The most crucial part was that after she asked Yu Qingci a few professional nutrition questions, the doctor said she could send an email to communicate. Although an email address on a business card is likely managed by an assistant or checked selectively, Lin Feiruo felt the opportunity shouldn’t be wasted. Trying wouldn’t kill her.
Originally, she had planned to condense a few key points from her notes to send over, but now she had a new idea. Using the cactus juice and half a banana for Jian Xiyan last night was the best proof of “learning and applying.” Lin Feiruo felt Dr. Yu would be happy to see someone remember and try the wellness concepts she promoted.
Fearing she might forget the details, she hurried to record them in her notes.
The bathroom door opened, and Lin Feiruo stopped typing to look up. Jian Xiyan looked much more refreshed than before, and she had changed her clothes—her “powerful” aura returned instantly.
Lin Feiruo actually felt she was easier to get along with last night; the sense of distance wasn’t as heavy then. Even though she was still saying “sorry” and “thank you,” she was different from her usual self.
Jian Xiyan signaled that Lin Feiruo could wash up: “There are new toothbrushes and towels in the cabinet, take your pick.”
Lin Feiruo moved lightning fast—a skill honed back at school. Whenever there was an early class, she fought against time like this.
Jian Xiyan hadn’t expected her to be so quick, so much so that by the time Lin Feiruo was ready, she had to wait for Jian Xiyan to finish her makeup. However, Lin Feiruo didn’t show any impatience, standing nearby and glancing over at Jian Xiyan from time to time.
She wanted to see exactly how Jian Xiyan’s condition was today so she could be specific in her email to Dr. Yu. But every time she looked over, Jian Xiyan would look back at her through the mirror, causing Lin Feiruo to retreat in failure several times.
Since staring blatantly at someone was inappropriate, Lin Feiruo ultimately chose to give up for now.
Jian Xiyan was puzzled as to what Lin Feiruo intended by looking over repeatedly, guessing she had something to say. After partnering for so long, she didn’t think Lin Feiruo was ogling her beauty; yet when she responded, the other party said nothing.
If Lin Feiruo is this conflicted, it must be related to Yan Shan again.
Jian Xiyan felt annoyed at the mention of the name and looked down to think. Regardless, Lin Feiruo had helped her last night, and it was voluntary. She didn’t like owing favors; if the woman really asked for help with something for Yan Shan, Jian Xiyan felt she should agree.
Having made her decision, Jian Xiyan adjusted her emotions and turned toward Lin Feiruo.
“Are you all set?” Lin Feiruo wanted to confirm if they could go downstairs.
Jian Xiyan nodded but wasn’t in a rush to leave.
Lin Feiruo thought for a bit: “Should I leave directly later, or have some breakfast?”
Jian Xiyan had reserved time for her to speak, but she hadn’t expected this to be the question. “Up to you. Which do you prefer?”
Lin Feiruo admitted honestly: “Leaving directly is most convenient, but I…”
Jian Xiyan tilted her head, signaling her to go on.
“I kind of miss the Dan Dan noodles.”
The Dan Dan noodles at Pear Orchard were the best she’d ever had; it was hard to find a match elsewhere. Since she was a guest at the richest woman’s house, having a bowl of noodles wouldn’t be considered taking advantage, right?
Jian Xiyan remembered her puffed-out cheeks and pursed her lips. “Just the noodles?”
Lin Feiruo thought again: “That’s what I want most. But if there’s other good food, I can try it too.”
Jian Xiyan looked at her meaningfully: “Anything else?”
She was giving her three chances. Lin Feiruo had strayed far off topic twice; if she didn’t mention Yan Shan with this final chance, Jian Xiyan would consider it an automatic forfeit. Though she owed a favor, she wasn’t so humble as to chase after her to give it. Three chances were generous enough.
Lin Feiruo thought she was still talking about breakfast options. She truly had no other thoughts. “Can I swap the food for something else?”
Jian Xiyan raised an eyebrow. Finally, the main point. “You can.”
“If there’s another wellness forum like this in the future, and it happens to be sponsored by the Jian Group, could you save a ticket for me?”
Jian Xiyan was visibly stunned.
Lin Feiruo said embarrassedly: “I can’t just keep troubling Xiaomin every time.”
Jian Xiyan understood: “You’re afraid of owing her too many favors.”
“Eh, how did you know?” Seeing she’d caught on, Lin Feiruo was direct. “It’s embarrassing to keep bothering people.”
This wasn’t hard. She just had to tell Xu Liqing to make a note of it. Jian Xiyan agreed readily: “No problem.”
The two went downstairs together. As they entered the dining room, they happened to see Jian Xiaomin. Lin Feiruo thought to herself: Good thing I didn’t try to leave last night.
Compared to Jian Xiyan, who had showered and changed, Lin Feiruo was still in her outfit from the night before. She had slept soundly, so while there wasn’t much tossing, her clothes inevitably had some wrinkles.
Jian Xiaomin’s gaze lingered on Lin Feiruo’s slightly wrinkled hem several times, and her lips slowly curled upward. Lin Feiruo felt something was wrong with that expression, fearing another earth-shattering melodramatic line was coming.
Before Jian Xiaomin could speak, a cool voice pre-emptively blocked the approaching drama.
“Xiaomin, hurry up and eat breakfast. You’re coming to the office with me later.”
As if hit in a vital spot, Jian Xiaomin’s face instantly crumbled: “Sis, I don’t want to go.”
“Do you still plan on submitting your internship report?”
“I do! I’ve almost finished writing it; you just need to sign it for me when the time comes.”
Jian Xiyan sat down elegantly. After whispering a few instructions to Aunt Shu, she turned back to Xiaomin. “I can accept your internship being of slightly lower quality, but you cannot fail to go even once.”
Her demeanor and tone were filled with an undeniable seriousness. Jian Xiaomin knew there was no room for bargaining and lowered her head: “Fine, I’ll go.”
Lin Feiruo sat waiting for her noodles, finding it quite interesting to watch the sisters being so serious about an internship. She rested her chin on her left hand, enjoying the show.
Jian Xiaomin was about to make a face at her to tell her to stop gloating, when she noticed Lin Feiruo’s left hand was bare.
Thinking back to their last few meetings, Lin Feiruo’s hand had already been missing the wedding ring; she had just overlooked it. Jian Xiaomin quickly turned to look at her sister’s hand. Her left hand was also empty! But her sister was wearing it last night…
They clearly stayed together last night, Lin Feiruo’s clothes were wrinkled like that, and her sister was glowing with such a healthy complexion—how did it end up with them both taking off their wedding rings at the same time?
Jian Xiaomin felt a sudden, inexplicable surge of panic.
