- Chapter 16 - Strike While You're Down
A carriage drawn by two fiery-red steeds rolled into the village entrance. Village Head Li immediately panicked. Their village lay just on the outskirts of the imperial capital, Jinling, so luxurious carriages were nothing new. Yet these two horses were extraordinary: each a full zhang long, necks eight chi high, with not a single stray hair on their gleaming bodies—they looked like twin balls of burning crimson flame under the sunlight. Village Head Li had read a few books in his youth and had some knowledge. The moment he saw those horses his knees began to tremble. Weren’t these the legendary Yanzhi horses described in the old texts?!
Yanzhi horses were no ordinary breed. Legend said Lü Bu’s famous Red Hare was one. They were exceedingly rare and precious—even moderately wealthy nobles could rarely afford them. In the entire capital, only a handful of households kept even one.
Village Head Li glanced again at the opulent carriage fittings and felt his heart sink even further. When an imposing retainer stepped out and displayed a token from the Duke’s household, his legs gave way completely. He dropped to his knees with a thud, cold sweat pouring down his face. He had no idea how his little village had provoked such a terrifying figure to descend upon them.
When the retainer announced they had come to find Lu Qian, Village Head Li’s heart lurched. This Lu family orphan was no ordinary person. At fifteen she had taken only half a year to make every young man in the village obey her without question. Nowadays nearly every household had someone working in the Lu family workshops. Village Head Li had no desire to offend her—especially since his own third son harbored some unclear, unspeakable feelings toward the Lu girl.
He had heard she returned to the village last night. If not for someone happening to come home late and spot her, the whole village might still be unaware. Village Head Li felt something was off. Lu Qian had never been the type to sneak around, yet she had been back an entire night without showing her face. Now here came a noble from the Duke’s household demanding to see her. His instincts screamed that the visitor meant harm.
He was still stammering, trying to deflect, when the retainer glared at him—making his waist nearly buckle. But then a voice came from inside the carriage: “I know where the Lu family ancestral house is. Please lead the way, Miss.”
Village Head Li whipped around. When he saw the man limping toward them on one leg, his forehead vein throbbed in fury: “Lu Si! You dare show your face in the village again?!”
Lu Si gave him a sinister grin: “Back when you lot used private punishment to drive my whole family out of the village, did you ever imagine this day would come? The person in that carriage is the legitimate daughter of the Duke’s household. How many heads do you have to block a noble from seeing Lu Qian?”
“You—!” Village Head Li gnashed his teeth.
“What’s all this noise?!” A corner of the carriage curtain lifted, revealing half of Jian Jia’s impatient face. “Miss said if there’s any more racket, she’ll have the lot of you dragged off for a slapping!”
Lu Si instantly switched to a fawning smile, bowing at the waist: “Wouldn’t dare delay the noble lady. This humble one will lead the way at once. Miss, rest assured—someone personally witnessed that slut suffer serious injuries. She can’t even walk on her own. Once we arrive we’ll definitely capture her on the spot.”
“Shut up.” Jian Jia dropped the curtain and retreated inside.
Lu Si didn’t dare say another word. Limping hurriedly, he took the lead. Village Head Li didn’t dare block them. He could only watch helplessly as the magnificent carriage rolled toward the Lu family compound.
“This is bad,” the old man muttered, stamping his foot. He turned to his eldest daughter-in-law who had come out with him: “Quick—go find Third Son and all the young men who work for the Lu family. We can’t let anything happen to Lu Qian, or our whole Shitan Village will be turned upside down!”
Leaving Village Head Li frantically gathering people, let’s return to the Lu family compound. Lu Si led Jiang Xiyue’s carriage to the tightly shut main gate and began pounding on it. After a long while a girl of about ten finally came to answer. The moment she poked her head out, Lu Si shoved the gate open. The girl was knocked off balance by the swinging door and fell to the ground with a cry.
A-Yao, who had been carrying water toward the front courtyard, immediately rushed over. When she saw the menacing group outside her face went white: “What are you doing?!”
“What are we doing? Teaching you a lesson, of course!” Lu Si swaggered, shaking his crippled leg. A-Yao had only started serving her miss two years ago and didn’t recognize Lu Si—who had long been driven out of the village. She looked straight past him to the carriage behind. When she saw Jiang Xiyue step out, supported by Jian Jia, her shock instantly turned to fury.
“You again! What are you doing at our house? You’re not welcome here!” A-Yao shouted at Jiang Xiyue. The little girl climbed up from the ground and timidly clung to A-Yao’s waist: “Big Sis, I’m scared.”
Seeing her little sister’s face bruised from the fall, A-Yao’s heart ached. But she couldn’t show weakness in front of Jiang Xiyue. Her miss had returned last night covered in serious wounds and knocked on the door. If she and her sister hadn’t happened to be assigned to guard the old house recently, there might not have been anyone to change her bandages. She had planned to wait until noon, then find someone trustworthy to go into the city and notify the people there to come help. Who could have guessed that before the field workers returned at midday, Jiang Xiyue would show up first.
This woman was her miss’s mortal enemy. If she discovered her miss’s current condition, who knew what she would do. A-Yao hugged the wooden basin tightly to her chest, trying to hide it behind her.
But Jiang Xiyue’s sharp eyes caught the towel draped over the basin’s rim—stained with quite a bit of blood. The sight made her lips curve upward. She stopped Jian Jia, who had been about to order a slapping, and leisurely adjusted the butterfly hairpin in her hair: “This young miss came in goodwill to check on Lu Qian. How rude of this maid to block my way. Is this how the Lu household receives guests?”
“What kind of guest are you? Our door opens for anyone except you. Get lost! If you don’t leave right now I’ll accuse you of trespassing on private property!” A-Yao shouted, brows raised.
Lu Si let out a mocking “Oh?” and reached out to shove her: “You little bitch—given face but won’t take it. When a daughter of the Duke’s household deigns to visit your house, that’s fortune accumulated over several lifetimes. Get out of the way!”
Before his hand could touch A-Yao, a flying dart struck him. With a miserable yelp he jumped back. Looking down, he saw it wasn’t a real dart at all—just a jade hairpin used for hair.
Jiang Xiyue looked up toward the corridor eaves of the main hall. There stood Lu Qian, draped in white robes. Her raven-black hair cascaded straight down to her waist like poured ink. Her face was even paler than her clothes; her pale lips had lost all color. Only her eyes gleamed with startling brightness—cold and indifferent.
The moment Lu Si saw Lu Qian it was as though he had seen the King of Hell. Even with the Duke’s household backing him, he was so terrified he nearly wet himself. He immediately scurried behind a retainer, afraid those dead-looking eyes would fall on him.
“Miss, why did you come out!” A-Yao cried anxiously, rushing to support her. But Lu Qian only said softly: “A-Yao, take Qi’er to the side room and stay there. Don’t come out unless I call for you.”
A-Yao didn’t want to obey, but Lu Qian lowered her gaze from the corridor and spoke gently: “Be good.”
Unable to disobey, A-Yao had no choice. Whenever her miss gave an order without looking at her, it was an absolute command. Tears in her eyes, A-Yao tremblingly led Qi’er away. The glance she cast back at Jiang Xiyue carried—perhaps for the first time—pleading.
Jiang Xiyue was extremely satisfied. She approached Lu Qian, savoring the sight of her frail figure that seemed ready to vanish with the wind: “How about it? You can barely stand. Would you like this young miss to support you?”
Lu Qian braced herself against a vermilion pillar with one hand. Looking at Jiang Xiyue—now only half a step away—she suddenly curved her lips. She leaned close to Jiang Xiyue’s ear and spoke in a voice completely devoid of warmth: “I know what you want to do. Fine. As long as you deal with Lu Si first.”
Jiang Xiyue’s heart stuttered for half a beat. She lifted her eyes to look at Lu Qian. The other woman still wore that calm, indifferent expression—yet Jiang Xiyue suddenly felt a scorching heat ignite in her lower abdomen. The cock between her legs instantly swelled several times larger. She stepped onto the corridor, wrapped her arms around Lu Qian, and without looking back ordered: “Drag Lu Si away. Break his other leg too.”
Lu Si’s miserable screams echoed all the way to the village outskirts. Meanwhile Jiang Xiyue had already pulled Lu Qian into the house. No one knew that in the medicine-scented room, she pressed Lu Qian down onto the bed and—almost frantically—tore apart her clothes, then thrust her cock deep into that wounded body.

Author’s Note:
I originally planned for this chapter to jump straight into the H scene, but the plot ended up taking 2,400 words on its own. Alright, alright—next chapter we’re finally getting the young miss’s counterattack turn.
By the way, Lu Qian really holds grudges. Even when forced by circumstances to let Jiang Xiyue fuck her, she still has to settle scores with the petty villain first.
