After Faking My Death, The Iceberg Omega Became Pregnant With My Child - Chapter 1
Today’s weather: heavy rain.
The rain had not stopped since early morning.
Luxury cars crowded the road in front of the mountainside villa. Supercars of every kind cut through the gray-white curtain of rain and mist, their spotless windows reflecting all the extravagant decadence of high society.
“I heard Song Yanyue, the richest person in A City, is coming today too. If you can latch onto even one of these rich people, forget a measly two million in medical expenses—you’ll never have to worry about money again for the rest of your life. You’d shoot straight to the top!”
The woman’s excited tone bordered on fanaticism. After pausing and realizing there had been no response from beside her, she raised her voice.
“Fang Zhi? Fang Zhi!”
“Mm, Sister Liu. I’m listening.”
The girl snapped back to herself. Her dark eyes blinked as she pulled her gaze away from the mountains outside, blurred by the rain and mist.
“Who was the richest person I just mentioned? Did you remember?”
“…”
The girl pressed her lips together in a carefree smile and said nothing.
Sister Liu, the broker, looked at her with exasperation and repeated herself more emphatically.
“Remember this—Song Yanyue! Do you understand what it means to be the person in charge of one of the country’s top wealthy families? More importantly, she’s a single Omega. I pulled a lot of strings just to get you in here. Do you know how many people dream of establishing some kind of connection with Song Yanyue? Song Yanyue is—!”
That name was repeated several more times.
Each time, it sounded clearer than the last, stabbing into Fang Zhi’s heart again and again.
Fang Zhi lowered her eyes. Her fingers unconsciously twisted the hem of her jacket until her knuckles turned white.
“Sister Liu, I remember. But could you stop mentioning that name?”
“What’s wrong? Do you know Song Yanyue?” Sister Liu stared at Fang Zhi suspiciously.
The girl had been acting strange ever since she started introducing the wealthy guests. Even when she smiled at you, her gaze seemed to pass straight through your body and land somewhere very far away.
“I don’t know her. How could I ever come into contact with someone from that social class?” Fang Zhi laughed self-deprecatingly.
A name she had avoided for two whole years had just been chanted like a spell countless times within the span of a few minutes.
Of course she didn’t know any richest woman in the city.
It was simply an unfortunate coincidence that this wealthy heiress happened to have the exact same name as her first love and ex-girlfriend.
Back then, Fang Zhi had been the one to break up with her. Her words had been cruel and final, probably hurting the other woman terribly. She had never imagined they would meet again.
Besides, she had fallen so far that she was now selling her pheromones.
The last thing she wanted was to run into her ex while she was in such a humiliating situation.
Sister Liu keenly caught the brief moment Fang Zhi’s mind wandered.
Those dark eyes were lowered again, and the loneliness in her expression could not quite be concealed.
“If you don’t know her, why are you reacting like this? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you had a crush on Song Yanyue. Though even if you really are a toad dreaming of swan meat, there’s nothing embarrassing about it. That’s Song Yanyue we’re talking about!”
The girl clutched her chest and took a deep breath before finally turning toward her with a solemn expression.
“…I resent the rich. Whenever I think about how all that money doesn’t belong to me, I become deeply depressed.”
Sister Liu burst out laughing at her completely serious expression. She immediately covered her BMW key protectively with one hand and nodded in heartfelt agreement.
“Resenting the rich is good. Turn that resentment into motivation to worship money. Think more about your little sister. She’s still in the ICU waiting for you to earn enough for her surgery! I’ll go borrow you a little formal dress. When you get on the auction stage later, stand tall and confident so you can earn more money.”
At the mention of her “little sister,” the smile at Fang Zhi’s lips faded.
She gave a very soft acknowledgment.
“Oh, and stop wearing these awful glasses.”
Sister Liu reached out and pinched the thick black frames resting on the bridge of Fang Zhi’s nose, pulling them off in one motion.
She had been about to nag her about a few more things she needed to pay attention to, but the moment she saw those eyes clearly, she froze.
A white shirt. A black striped jacket stirred by the wind, outlining a slender back.
The girl was dressed simply. With those thick black-framed glasses on, she looked old-fashioned, steady, and plain-faced—the stereotypical nerdy STEM student.
Who would have thought that beneath those stiff frames was such a lively pair of expressive, affectionate eyes?
Clear and pure, with amber-colored irises.
They were like a distant blue-toned landscape where sky and water merged on a summer night, captured forever on a faded Polaroid—lingering and gentle.
They looked a lot like the eyes of a certain international superstar.
The kind of eyes that could look at a dog and somehow make it seem like true love.
Fang Zhi lightly raised a brow. Clearly used to this sort of reaction, she smiled at Sister Liu, curling her lips as she shamelessly pressed her advantage little by little.
In a gentle voice, she asked,
“Thank you, Sister. But could the dress cover my shoulders?”
There was a long scar across one shoulder.
She didn’t want anyone else to know about it. Explaining would be troublesome.
She clearly knew just how charming she looked like this. That soft, obedient “Sister” was so sweet that it immediately sent Sister Liu’s spirits soaring.
“I know, I know. Young girls, after all…”
Sister Liu worked full-time as a black-market broker and had already seen far too many people forced into desperate situations by life.
Even so, faced with the girl’s brilliant smile, she still couldn’t stop herself from feeling a little unnecessary tenderness and sympathy.
Fang Zhi.
A master’s student in the Computer Science Department at A University and an ACM gold medalist.
She should have had a limitless future ahead of her.
If her younger sister had not been suffering from a serious heart condition and urgently needed money for surgery, Fang Zhi would never have been reduced to selling her pheromones.
Her pheromones were extremely unusual. They had a universally soothing effect and could treat pheromone disorders. Their rarity was comparable to “panda blood.”
Before sending Fang Zhi into the banquet hall, Sister Liu gave her clothes a few more glances.
Aside from the Adidas jacket, nothing else had any obvious logos, but the fabrics were high quality. They probably weren’t cheap.
Her family must have been doing fairly well in the past.
If her mother were still around, she probably never would have been able to bear letting her child go down this path.
Sister Liu heaved another heavy sigh.
Fang Zhi had no idea what Sister Liu was thinking.
Nor could she tell what brands she was wearing.
In fact, all these clothes had been bought for her by her ex-girlfriend.
Her gaze pierced through the elegant crowd dressed in fine clothes and fragrant perfume, instantly locking onto the lavish desserts in the refreshment area.
A layer of amber-colored caramel crackled over the pudding.
The chocolate mousse had been shaped into exquisite hemispheres…
Her dark eyes lit up.
She had only managed to hurriedly eat two steamed buns while rushing for the first bus that morning. After spending most of the day hungry, her stomach had already begun to ache faintly.
At noon, she had used a nurse’s employee discount at the hospital cafeteria, but before she could even eat, someone started causing trouble with the medical staff. Fang Zhi had stepped in to stop it and accidentally gotten a little hurt.
The tray containing two meat dishes and one vegetable dish had unfortunately become collateral damage as well.
What a waste.
She had thought getting a glucose drip would keep her from feeling hungry.
Beneath crystal chandeliers and beside towers of champagne, while everyone else busied themselves networking at the upscale private banquet, Fang Zhi happily helped herself to the dessert buffet.
Her table manners could hardly be called refined.
She chewed each mouthful a few times at random before swallowing, almost carrying a trace of some untamed wildness.
It made the surrounding guests glance at her repeatedly as they privately tried to guess her identity.
High society had clearly defined classes.
Who you should speak to and what you should say—every intelligent person kept an invisible scale in their heart.
Fang Zhi had a small plate of cake in hers.
A commotion suddenly broke out in one corner.
Fang Zhi swallowed her final bite of Black Forest cake and looked over.
A fat man dripping in gold and jewelry was harassing someone. His face was full of arrogance, and he repeatedly placed his hand on the bare shoulder exposed by an Omega’s off-the-shoulder gown.
The girl seemed to be some currently popular celebrity. She looked vaguely familiar—Fang Zhi had probably seen her on a billboard somewhere.
Her face was flushed red as she kept shrinking backward. Her shoulders were slightly hunched from nervousness. The neckline of her gown had been tugged crooked, exposing reddened skin beneath her collarbone.
She was already on the verge of tears.
Yet the other guests acted as though they had seen nothing.
The wound on Fang Zhi’s shoulder throbbed, warning her not to meddle in other people’s business again.
In this world where the strong preyed on the weak, even helping others required capital.
Her own situation was hardly better than the girl’s. She would be going onstage to participate in the auction soon.
Offending someone now was hardly a wise decision.
The rich playboy grinned viciously, certain he was about to get his way.
What he enjoyed was precisely the process of trampling ordinary people beneath his feet.
Crushing someone else’s dignity was fun.
But the girl did not give in as he expected.
She suddenly shoved the playboy away, apologized through her tears, then turned and tried to leave.
The fat man was enraged.
Being rejected in public was a humiliation he could not tolerate.
He grabbed the girl’s arm, his five fingers digging deeply into her flesh until she cried out in pain.
When arguing got him nowhere, his face turned dark purple with rage. Humiliated and furious, he raised his fist to strike her.
The girl recoiled and squeezed her eyes shut.
“Excuse me.”
A clear, cool voice rang out.
A slender, well-defined hand intercepted the punch before it could land.
Fang Zhi draped her own jacket over the girl’s shoulders, then turned her dark eyes toward the fat man.
“Don’t you know Song Yanyue is coming today? And you still dare start a fight here?”
At the sound of that name, the fat man hesitated.
But a moment later, he glared irritably at Fang Zhi.
“Who the hell are you?”
“I’m Song Yanyue’s friend.”
Borrowing the tiger’s might, Fang Zhi forced her expression cold and straightened her tall figure, squeezing out as much aristocratic poise as she could.
“You should know that Song Yanyue hates this sort of behavior more than anything.”
The smile completely disappeared from her eyes as she spoke, replaced by a faint but unmistakable pressure.
It actually frightened the aggressive fat man into taking a step backward.
He was just about to grudgingly brush the matter aside when his eyes swept up and down Fang Zhi.
Then his gaze suddenly stopped on the mud-stained shoes on the girl’s feet.
No matter how he looked at her, she did not resemble someone wealthy.
Embarrassed by the fact that she had scared him, his expression twisted into a fake smile. He shoved Fang Zhi and cursed,
“You reek of poverty and you still dare claim you’re Song Yanyue’s friend? If you’ve got the guts, call her over here! Otherwise, I’ll beat you up too!”
Everyone knew Song Yanyue rarely attended this kind of social entertainment.
Fang Zhi frowned and shifted the uneasy girl farther behind her.
Several bodyguards in suits said something into their radios before striding toward them.
Judging by their aggressive manner, they obviously weren’t coming over to uphold justice.
Fang Zhi clenched her fists.
Out of habit, she counted how many people the other side had.
Very quickly, however, she loosened her hands helplessly.
The best way to deal with a thug was to smash a fist directly into his face and physically send him to salvation.
Fang Zhi had spent much of her childhood on the streets and had plenty of experience with that.
But if she started a fight—
What would happen to her sister’s medical expenses…?
In the suffocating silence, someone suddenly exclaimed,
“President Song!”
“Song Yanyue actually came! Someone as aloof as her never attends this kind of banquet, does she?”
“Oh my god, it really is President Song! I’ve seen her on the cover of finance magazines!”
The fat man’s face instantly went pale.
He stared behind Fang Zhi in disbelief.
Fear flooded the tiny eyes squeezed into slits by the fat on his face. His brain had not yet managed to switch gears from anger, but sycophantic flattery was already piling onto his features.
The result was an almost grotesquely distorted expression.
Fang Zhi swallowed nervously.
Crap.
She had been caught lying by the person herself.
She had no idea what kind of personality this richest woman who shared her ex-girlfriend’s name had.
Would she make things difficult for Fang Zhi after hearing what she had just said?
Still, the richest person in the city was probably fairly old.
Surely no one would slap a smiling face.
Maybe if Fang Zhi sweet-talked her a little, shamelessly called her Sister, and played dumb, she could somehow bluff her way through this.
Fang Zhi curled her lips into a dazzling smile and turned to follow everyone’s gaze.
The instant she met a pair of pale gray eyes—
She froze.
Thump. Thump.
The entire world suddenly became unbearably quiet.
How could it be her…?
Just like that breathtaking first glimpse when they had first met years ago.
Except now, she was the person Fang Zhi least wanted to see again.
Rain-filtered light poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows and fell across the woman’s body.
A bespoke suit outlined a cold, stunning figure. The black fabric gleamed like satin beneath the lights.
A jade necklace worth tens of millions made her skin look even whiter than snow. Its pendant rested quietly above her collarbone, rising and falling slightly with every breath.
Between those aloof, elegant brows, the distinctive beauty mark beneath the corner of her eye trembled faintly.
She felt completely different from how she had back then.
The poor first love Fang Zhi had dumped for being too poor—
Was actually the head of one of the country’s wealthiest families?
Fang Zhi blinked extremely slowly.
Then pinched herself.
It hurt…
This time, she wasn’t dreaming.
The person who had haunted her dreams was truly standing before her.
And in those long, narrow eyes was undisguised disgust and hatred.
Outside the windows, the rain came crashing down.
Under the gaze of everyone present, the woman who had always been known for her pride and cold indifference voluntarily took a step forward.
Her thin lips parted.
Every movement she made carried an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Then, in her low, magnetic voice, she gave a cold laugh.
“Long time no see.”
