Chapter 26

When Fang Yu messaged Meng Shi to attend a meeting, Yang Man was dragging her around the company on a tour.

Yang Man happened to receive the same notification, so the two went to Fang Yu’s office together.

When they pushed open the door, quite a few people were already seated inside.

Most were unfamiliar faces, though Meng Shi recognized several of them. Su Yutong, Qi Beibei, Jia Jia, and others were all present.

“Sister Fang Yu, sorry we’re late.”

Yang Man stuck out her tongue and apologized to everyone. Then she pulled Meng Shi toward Jia Jia, who was seated near the middle of the long conference table.

Meng Shi briefly surveyed the room.

The atmosphere was extremely subtle.

Just as Yang Man had said, there were clearly two factions, and neither side could stand the other.

Su Yutong’s faction sat on the left side of the table, while Qi Beibei’s occupied the right. The two groups stared at each other across the table, nearly producing sparks.

Su Yutong sat in the first seat on the left, directly opposite Qi Beibei.

Their respective managers sat beside them, followed by the artists and managers belonging to each faction.

Jia Jia was seated beside Su Yutong’s manager, Qiao Xin. Yang Man sat next to Jia Jia and waved urgently at Meng Shi, signaling for her to come over.

Uh…

Meng Shi stood there awkwardly as numerous gazes turned toward her.

Was she being forced to choose a side already?

Besides, every chair was occupied.

There was nowhere for her to sit.

Completely bewildered…

Qi Beibei glanced sideways at Meng Shi and smiled coldly.

Fang Yu raised her head, stood, and personally carried over a chair, placing it beside herself.

“What are you standing there for? Come sit.”

Her voice was exceptionally gentle, without the slightest hint of blame for Meng Shi’s tardiness.

However, Meng Shi felt that she had no good intentions.

The moment Fang Yu said that, Meng Shi immediately became the target of everyone in the room.

All of them stared at her in surprise.

Those gazes contained confusion, contempt, scrutiny, and jealousy, giving Meng Shi a headache.

“Mm.”

She acknowledged Fang Yu, ignored everyone’s stares, and openly walked over to sit beside her.

Fang Yu lowered her head and continued reading through the documents, temporarily paying no attention to anyone.

The room was so silent that no one dared breathe loudly.

Nearly half the people present were staring at Meng Shi.

Meng Shi felt like a monkey on display…

After waiting for a long time, Fang Yu still did not speak.

Tired of being watched, Meng Shi simply took out her phone and began playing a match-three game…

The cheerful background music echoed throughout the entire room.

Everyone looked shocked.

Even Fang Yu could not resist secretly glancing at her, somewhat surprised by Meng Shi’s composure.

And so, the situation became an entire room of people waiting for Fang Yu to finish reading while listening to Meng Shi play her game…

Nearly ten minutes passed before someone finally lost patience.

“Sister Fang, is this the newcomer?”

Qi Beibei spoke with a cheerful smile.

Meng Shi raised her eyelids and glanced at her.

The woman wore such an innocent expression that she actually appeared rather pure.

Fang Yu organized the documents and swept her gaze around the room.

“Everyone’s here, right? All right, stop playing.”

“Hmm?”

Meng Shi looked up before finally putting away her phone.

“I called everyone here today mainly to introduce a new artist—Ah Meng.”

Fang Yu patted Meng Shi.

“Introduce yourself to everyone.”

She wore an affectionate smile, making it appear to outsiders as though she greatly favored Meng Shi.

“Mm.”

Meng Shi stood and looked around the room.

“Hello, everyone. My name is Meng Shi. I’m new here, so I hope all my seniors will look after me in the future.”

The moment she finished speaking, her little fangirl Yang Man enthusiastically applauded.

Seeing Jia Jia’s dark, liver-colored expression beside her, Meng Shi smiled with pursed lips.

The others applauded either willingly or reluctantly, formally welcoming her arrival.

“Also, I’ve been relatively free recently, so I’ll personally manage Ah Meng.”

Fang Yu looked at the managers.

“If any of you have good opportunities available, don’t keep them hidden.”

The managers displayed varying expressions.

They were shocked, shocked, and even more shocked.

The artists were confused, confused, and even more confused.

Meng Shi quietly listened as though the matter had nothing to do with her.

Meanwhile, her little fangirl Yang Man silently gazed at her in admiration.

Meng Shi observed everyone’s expressions with great interest.

She saw the dissatisfaction on Qi Beibei’s face.

Qi Beibei’s manager, Wang Han, leaned close and whispered something into her ear.

Meng Shi tilted her head slightly and listened.

She could vaguely hear the manager suggesting that they share an opportunity from one of their productions.

However, Qi Beibei glared viciously at her, silencing the suggestion.

Meng Shi rubbed her neck and secretly laughed.

“Sister Fang, I happen to have a rather good television IP. I don’t know whether Ah Meng would be interested.”

Qiao Xin reported it directly to Fang Yu without first discussing it with Su Yutong.

Hearing this, Meng Shi glanced at Fang Yu.

She saw Fang Yu look toward Su Yutong, who displayed no unusual reaction.

A trace of delight casually appeared on Fang Yu’s face.

“Good. Let her look at it later.”

Afterward, Fang Yu listened as each manager reported on the current condition of their artists.

Meng Shi became so bored that she nearly fell asleep, so she closed her eyes and pretended to doze.

When the meeting finally ended and everyone else had left, Fang Yu turned and examined Meng Shi.

This girl was indeed clever.

However, someone too clever would be difficult to control.

Meng Shi opened her eyes and happened to meet Fang Yu’s gaze.

She yawned.

“Sister Fang, if there’s nothing else, I’ll leave first. I’m genuinely sleepy.”

“Aren’t you going to look at the production Qiao Xin mentioned?”

“You can decide. I’ll listen to you. You wouldn’t cheat me anyway.”

Meng Shi thought briefly, then added:

“Oh, right. I have one condition. I won’t accept roles that reveal too much. I’m very protective of my virtue.”

After another moment, she added:

“Showing my abdominal muscles isn’t allowed either.”

“…”

…

Inside the restaurant, Qi Beibei angrily questioned her manager.

“What exactly is the background of that Meng-whatever-her-name-is?”

“She dared to sleep during Sister Fang’s meeting!”

“Does she have powerful backing?”

“Even Yang Man isn’t as arrogant as she is!”

“Did you see her attitude just now?”

“She was glaring at me. She glared at me!”

“How can some insignificant newcomer be this insolent?”

“And you—are you out of your mind? You actually wanted to share resources with someone like her?”

“Yes, yes, but Sister Fang has made it clear that she intends to promote her. She’s even personally managing her.”

“No matter how much you dislike her, you still need to maintain appearances.”

“Besides, we have so many opportunities available—”

“No!”

“I simply can’t stand that smug expression of hers.”

“What kind of stray army did she crawl out of? And now she wants a share of my territory?”

“Sigh…”

…

Elsewhere, Su Yutong and Qiao Xin were also thoroughly puzzled.

“What exactly does Sister Fang mean by this?”

“She’s personally promoting an unknown newcomer and even asking us to provide resources.”

Su Yutong did not understand.

Her manager, however, looked entirely confident.

“Do you really think Sister Fang lacks resources of her own?”

“Hmm?”

“Regardless, you won’t go wrong by maintaining a good relationship with this Ah Meng.”

“If she accepts this production, you should guide her more.”

Qiao Xin smiled and said nothing further.

…

“Wow! I can’t believe Sister Fang is personally managing Ah Meng!”

“Hey, Sister Jia Jia, do you think Sister Fang will make Ah Meng famous?”

Yang Man looked extremely excited.

Jia Jia rolled her eyes at her.

How hopeless.

Truly hopeless!

Among all Huayu’s managers, Jia Jia had the closest relationship with Fang Yu and understood her best.

The open and secret conflict between the company’s two factions had long ceased to be a secret.

Fang Yu had been suffering from headaches because of it.

At first, she had believed that there was nothing wrong with them engaging in minor conflicts and maintaining a healthy competitive relationship.

Recently, however, she discovered that the situation was nearly escaping her control.

Some people had even begun secretly making malicious moves and deliberately smearing the opposing side.

Fang Yu could not tolerate anything that damaged the company’s reputation.

She initially wanted to restrain both sides from the middle.

Only then did she realize that the teams surrounding the artists in both factions had already become highly developed.

She could no longer interfere.

Therefore, Fang Yu decided to cultivate another artist and insert her directly between the two factions.

Originally, this important responsibility had been assigned to Jia Jia.

The chosen person had been Yang Man, who possessed powerful backing.

Unfortunately, Yang Man was far too disappointing.

She spent every day playing around, retained the temperament of a child, and never seemed to grow up.

She was extremely difficult to develop.

And so, Fang Yu extended her little black hand toward Meng Shi, who had recently begun making a name for herself in the boxing world.

…

After Meng Shi left, Fang Yu prepared a cup of coffee and slowly stirred it.

She was very satisfied with Meng Shi’s performance that day.

This was precisely the effect she wanted.

Everyone was left confused, unable to understand her intentions.

At least for the near future, those making secret moves could only remain vigilant and temporarily restrain themselves.

Fang Yu was somewhat astonished.

Originally, she had merely intended to display a little deliberate favoritism toward Meng Shi.

Unexpectedly, the girl understood the situation so quickly.

She played games, pretended to sleep, and behaved as though no one else in the room mattered.

Throughout the entire meeting, Meng Shi had nearly taken control of the atmosphere herself.

She was certainly arrogant enough.

At the same time, however, Fang Yu felt slightly worried.

She feared she might be unable to control Meng Shi.

If the situation escaped her grasp, it would be no different from digging her own grave.

…

On the way home, Meng Shi was also silently considering the situation.

Fang Yu’s behavior had been far too deliberate.

Her intentions were also far too obvious.

Meng Shi was not foolish. She could understand these twists and schemes.

Fang Yu merely wanted to use her to balance the conflict between the two factions.

Although she was being manipulated like a chess piece, Meng Shi actually felt more reassured.

Previously, she had never understood why Fang Yu suddenly remembered her or why she intended to promote her.

Now that Meng Shi understood her objective, Fang Yu probably would not treat her poorly as long as she followed the plan.

However, there was one point she needed to handle carefully.

She had to ensure that Fang Yu always felt she had Meng Shi under control.

Only then would Fang Yu confidently and boldly continue promoting her.

That was why Meng Shi had completely surrendered the decision regarding her crucial first production to Fang Yu that day.

After thinking everything through, Meng Shi’s mood greatly improved.

With Fang Yu acting as her invisible support, she would no longer need to concern herself with anyone’s expression inside Huayu.

Since Fang Yu had provided her with the capital to behave arrogantly, wouldn’t it be a waste of her thoughtful efforts not to make proper use of it?

Remembering Qi Beibei’s contemptuous attitude that day, Meng Shi snorted.

This general was magnanimous and would spare her this once.

If she dared do it again, Meng Shi would certainly make her suffer the consequences!

【Yan Qing: I didn’t appear anywhere in this chapter, so I came out to show my face. Otherwise, everyone might forget that I’m the official partner!】
