After She Fell for Me, I Lost My Memory (GL) - Chapter 57
The second day after returning to Miancheng, Cen Luo woke up early and went to the flower market to buy some seeds and blooming flowers.
When her grandmother was still alive, Cen Luo often learned from her, listening to which flowers were suitable for which seasons, and which ones were easy to care for while blooming all year round.
The garden had been neglected for a long time and looked very messy; it was going to take quite a while to tidy up.
As if to pass the time, Cen Luo worked sporadically for five days before finally getting the garden cleaned.
Since returning to Miancheng, Cen Luo’s phone hadn’t stopped ringing. Qin Ran and Xu Fengwan called every day to check in, and Xu Yanyan and Zhao Zhao also messaged her frequently.
However, Zhao Zhao seemed very busy; sometimes a message sent in the morning wouldn’t get a reply until the evening.
She was indeed as busy as she had mentioned before.
Cen Luo kept an eye on recent entertainment news and knew that Zhao Zhao had signed onto a movie with a very good production team. Online public opinion toward this movie was overwhelmingly positive.
There were also many people attacking Zhao Zhao, criticizing her acting or accusing her of “bringing capital into the production” (buying her way in).
As the saying goes, if you want to know how good a star’s resources are, just look at how crazy the anti-fans and competitors are.
Cen Luo sincerely hoped that Zhao Zhao could soar to the sky with this movie and stand in a place where others looked up at her.
The garden was large, so Cen Luo divided it into four sections for roses, tulips, lilies, and other miscellaneous flowers.
As she planted, she thought about who she would give the flowers to once they bloomed.
Having just finished the sowing and transplanting, Cen Luo already felt wealthy.
Indeed, being spiritually wealthy was the happiest thing.
However, Cen Luo then thought that it might also be because she hadn’t experienced poverty in her life yet.
Unknowingly, Cen Luo had been in Miancheng for half a month. Tomorrow was the day of the old classmates’ reunion.
Yu Jiao was worried she would forget, so she specifically called to remind her.
At that moment, Cen Luo was squatting on the ground, holding a watering can to water the seeds she had just sown.
The weather wasn’t cooperating; it hadn’t rained a single drop in Miancheng for half a month, and the soil was quite dry.
“Okay, see you tomorrow.”
After saying that, Cen Luo hung up, glanced at the screen, and casually clicked into a music app to play a random song.
Cen Luo hummed a little tune along with the music, entertaining herself.
“Should I just connect a hose to water them? Would it be faster?”
Cen Luo stood before the garden, looking at the watering can in her hand and the tiny patch of ground she had managed to water, murmuring to herself.
Suddenly, a ringtone broke the silence.
Cen Luo saw the caller ID was Xu Yanyan and answered eagerly. Before the other side could speak, she shouted:
“Sister Xu!”
A soft chuckle came from the receiver: “Mhm, it sounds like Luo Luo is having a pretty good time in Miancheng?”
“Mhm! Just planting flowers and shopping every day, it’s so happy.”
The joy in her voice overflowed through the phone.
Xu Yanyan sat in her office, looking at the character “Luo” she had unconsciously written on her notepad. She smiled and replied, “Why don’t you ask me how I’m doing?”
“Oh right, Sister Xu, how are you doing?”
Xu Yanyan: “Not good.”
Cen Luo: “Huh?”
Xu Yanyan: “I haven’t seen Luo Luo for nearly twenty days.”
Her voice sounded a little aggrieved.
Cen Luo bit her lip and chuckled softly: “I’ll be back in half a month, and then we can meet!”
“How about I go find you?” Xu Yanyan asked.
“Really?” Cen Luo said in surprise. “That’s great! I can take you all over Miancheng.”
“How about tomorrow? I’ve already bought the ticket.”
Although Cen Luo didn’t want to spoil her fun, she did have a reunion with old classmates tomorrow and wouldn’t be able to accompany Xu Yanyan.
Xu Yanyan hadn’t mentioned coming tomorrow during this time. If she blew off the reunion, Yu Jiao would probably scold her to death.
Thinking of that possibility, Cen Luo shook her head and asked tentatively, “Sister Xu, can we change the date? I have an appointment tomorrow.”
After a while, Cen Luo didn’t hear a reply. Thinking Xu Yanyan was angry, she was about to explain when she heard Xu Yanyan ask: “With whom?”
Cen Luo was stunned. The feeling of being interrogated was different from explaining voluntarily; Xu Yanyan’s words sounded strangely like a demand for an account.
Cen Luo patted her forehead to drive the thought out of her mind.
Then she explained: “It’s a junior high school reunion. It was set half a month ago. I’m sorry, Sister Xu.”
Xu Yanyan hummed and then changed the subject.
They chatted for a bit. Seeing it was getting late, Cen Luo used the excuse of going to eat to hang up.
Hearing the busy tone from the phone, Xu Yanyan slowly lowered the phone from her ear and twirled it in her hand.
“Here.”
Another doctor from the same department had entered the office with two files halfway through their call.
Seeing Xu Yanyan hang up, the female doctor placed the files on her desk.
The female doctor glanced at the open file on Xu Yanyan’s desk, and a scrawled character that looked out of place caught her attention.
Though it was messy, doctors are experts at deciphering handwriting; she recognized it as “Luo” at a glance.
She teased, “Since you like them, why don’t you pursue them?”
Xu Yanyan slowly closed the file and smiled slightly at her: “What kind of person do you think I am?”
The female doctor raised an eyebrow, studied her seriously from beside the desk, and said:
“Smart, beautiful, gentle, and meticulous.”
She added at the end: “Everyone loves you.”
It could be said that no one in the hospital disliked Xu Yanyan, because she possessed a gentle temperament that many people found hard to resist.
Xu Yanyan curled her lips at the words and gave a soft hum.
Gentle.
Is it because one can be tolerated that people like others’ gentleness?
In the end, it was just a means of catering to others.
The female doctor didn’t notice anything unusual about Xu Yanyan and just chattered away about recent funny events in the hospital.
Xu Yanyan hummed in response occasionally.
The female doctor glanced at Xu Yanyan’s phone and saw the screen was on a flight booking app. She asked curiously:
“Yanyan, are you going somewhere?”
Xu Yanyan put the phone away and asked back, “Is something wrong?”
Seeing that Xu Yanyan didn’t answer directly but questioned her back, and then put her phone away, the doctor guessed she might have caused displeasure by peeking at the phone. She apologized: “I’m sorry, Yanyan, I just happened to catch a glimpse accidentally.”
Xu Yanyan looked up at her, and after a few seconds, she suddenly smiled: “It’s fine.”
The female doctor pursed her lips; she felt Xu Yanyan’s expression just now was slightly off.
After answering, Xu Yanyan said to her: “I think it’s my shift today.”
“Oh, right, right, I’ll be going now.” The female doctor gave a forced smile and left the office.
Once outside, the doctor realized—that was her department too! Why did she leave just because Xu Yanyan said that?
Why did Xu Yanyan feel so strange today?
The reunion was held at a major hotel in the center of Miancheng.
They had originally invited Teacher Yu Yan, but she was busy with her professional grading these days and couldn’t attend.
The person happiest to hear this news was undoubtedly Yu Jiao.
Twelve classmates showed up on the day, all of whom were friends Cen Luo got along with well in junior high.
Cen Luo had no memory of past reunions and was slightly worried it might turn into a bragging competition like in novels or TV shows.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen.
None of the classmates showed off through their clothing or speech.
Especially when the table was loud and rowdy, Cen Luo felt as if she had returned to her junior high years.
Cen Luo took a sip of wine, looking at them chatting at the table, and smiled unconsciously.
She had no memory of high school or university, and her elementary school memories were too scattered, so to her, junior high was the most beautiful time in her student days.
Suddenly, her phone screen lit up. Cen Luo glanced at it and found a friend request.
“Xiao Luo, Deng Die just asked me for your WeChat, and I pushed your contact to her. You don’t mind, do you?”
The person speaking was the only girl who had been relatively close to Deng Die in high school.
Cen Luo shook her head: “It’s fine.”
They had taken a group photo earlier, and some classmates had posted it to their social feeds; she must have seen it.
Cen Luo clicked “Accept.”
The table erupted over that single sentence.
“Deng Die? You’re still in contact with her?”
“She left all the class groups as soon as we graduated, and her phone number went dead. I felt like she really hated our class. I didn’t expect you to still have her contact info?”
“Don’t say that. I have her WeChat too. If you don’t have it, it just means you aren’t cute enough.” Yu Jiao joined the conversation.
Cen Luo leaned her head to the side and just listened silently, occasionally laughing at their remarks.
Ding—
A ringtone interrupted the bickering.
“You guys continue, I’ll take this call.” Cen Luo stood up from her seat and smiled apologetically.
It was too noisy to take a call here.
Cen Luo left the private room and walked to the relatively quiet area outside the restrooms.
“Luo Luo.”
“Sister Xu, what is it?”
The other end paused before asking: “Which places in Miancheng are fun to visit?”
“Next time you come, I’ll take you out to play.” Cen Luo leaned against the wall outside the restroom and replied.
After a few seconds, she suddenly reacted. She hesitated and then asked: “Sister Xu, are you in Miancheng right now?”
“Ah, yes,” Xu Yanyan’s laughter came through the receiver. “Since the ticket was already bought, coming a day early is fine. You’ll be free tomorrow, won’t you?”
“Mhm! I have nothing to do tomorrow, I can take you around properly.”
…
Hearing Xu Yanyan say she had booked a hotel, Cen Luo asked in confusion:
“You could stay at my place.”
Xu Yanyan: “Stay at your place… and sleep with you?”
“Sleep with me?” This was the first time in so long Cen Luo had heard such words from Xu Yanyan, and she involuntarily repeated them.
As she said it, Cen Luo turned her body slightly, and her gaze caught a bright mirror in front of the vanity.
A slightly familiar figure flashed by in the mirror. Cen Luo rubbed her eyes and moved a step forward, but there was no one there.
I must have seen wrong.
How could someone from Yuncheng be here?
…
The two of them chatted sporadically for a while.
Cen Luo returned to the private room.
She happened to hear a few people saying it looked like it was going to rain today.
Cen Luo instinctively checked the weather forecast on her phone. Sure enough: Sunny turning to heavy rain.
She paused her steps into the room, then recalled the faint background noise during her call with Xu Yanyan.
“Is it already raining outside?” Cen Luo asked. Without waiting for them to answer, she walked to the window and pulled back the curtain, seeing tiny, subtle raindrops on the glass.
