After Taking Advantage Of An Opening [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 18
Wen Ling hadn’t expected herself to do something so embarrassing.
When she saw Gu Rongqing’s entire body turn pink from shyness because of her reaction, Wen Ling covered her face and lowered her head, no longer daring to look.
She wanted nothing more than to crawl into a crack in the floor and disappear.
At that moment, Wen Nuan urged Gu Rongqing, “Mommy, hurry and come take a bath.”
Then she pointed at Wen Ling.
“Mama seems hungry. She swallowed really loudly just now.”
Both adults froze.
Wen Ling lifted her head and glanced at Gu Rongqing. She realized Gu Rongqing must have misunderstood.
In their current situation, Wen Nuan’s innocent remark had naturally made Gu Rongqing assume Wen Ling was “hungry” in an entirely different way.
The more that thought grew in Wen Ling’s mind, the less she dared look at Gu Rongqing.
She felt as though she truly was “hungry.”
Gu Rongqing was mortified.
Before Wen Nuan made that remark, she might still have managed to remain calm.
But now…
There was no way she could persuade herself to bathe with Wen Ling.
Wen Ling was equally embarrassed and no longer wanted to continue bathing with Gu Rongqing.
She announced that she was almost finished, hurriedly washed herself, and then bathed Wen Nuan before fleeing the bathroom with the child.
After they emerged, Wen Nuan asked in confusion, “Mommy hasn’t finished bathing. Aren’t we going to wait for her?”
Wait for her mommy?
Wen Ling had been too afraid even to lift her head in there. She had barely dared breathe, and her heart felt ready to explode!
If she stayed any longer, something truly might have happened.
That was why she had fled without a second thought, her hair still dripping wet…
After Wen Ling left with Wen Nuan, Gu Rongqing finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She had genuinely been nervous and embarrassed…
Gu Rongqing refilled the bathtub and lay down, intending to enjoy a long soak and relax.
The entire day had been both nerve-racking and exciting.
She had been nervous from the moment Mother Xu suddenly appeared with Xiao Nuan.
Despite being married to Wen Ling for years, Gu Rongqing had met Mother Xu only a limited number of times. She and Wen Ling had lived in Jingcheng City year-round, while Mother Xu lived in Dongcheng City.
At first, Gu Rongqing assumed it would be an ordinary meal. She hadn’t expected Mother Xu and the others to be there, so she had naturally felt uncomfortable.
Now she wondered whether Wen Ling had felt the same way whenever she visited the Gu residence…
Nervous and somewhat awkward.
Gu Rongqing had still been in a daze when Wen Nuan suggested sleeping with her and Wen Ling.
Then Wen Nuan asked them to bathe together.
Gu Rongqing had wanted to refuse, but when she saw her daughter’s expression, she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
Otherwise, why would she ever have agreed to bathe with Wen Ling?
Gu Rongqing looked at her body submerged beneath the water and remembered Wen Nuan’s remark and Wen Ling’s reaction…
She lowered her gaze toward her figure, particularly her chest.
Were her breasts truly that large?
Had Wen Ling swallowed like that because of them?
Only after examining herself did Gu Rongqing realize what she was doing.
Embarrassment swept over her.
What was she doing?
She couldn’t understand herself anymore.
In her opinion, Wen Ling’s behavior had unquestionably been somewhat disrespectful.
But when she remembered that the person who had disrespected her was Wen Ling, she discovered that she wasn’t angry in the slightest.
She merely felt shy…
Gu Rongqing submerged her head beneath the water, hoping to clear her mind.
By the time she finished bathing and emerged, Wen Ling had already coaxed Wen Nuan to sleep.
The bed was enormous, yet Wen Nuan’s tiny body occupied only one side.
Thinking that she and Wen Ling might soon be sleeping pressed close together, Gu Rongqing suddenly felt uncomfortable in her spaghetti-strap nightgown.
She crossed her arms over her chest.
Unbeknownst to her, doing that was worse than leaving it uncovered…
After coaxing Wen Nuan to sleep, Wen Ling had nothing to do and was admiring her daughter’s adorable sleeping face.
When she heard a sound, she looked back and saw Gu Rongqing emerging from the bathroom.
At first, nothing seemed particularly remarkable.
But when Gu Rongqing crossed her arms, the gesture made her cleavage appear even deeper.
Wen Ling stared blankly.
In the silent room, a loud gulp came from her throat.
Wen Ling didn’t notice Gu Rongqing’s face reddening.
Her mind was occupied by a single question.
Was she genuinely “hungry”?
Gu Rongqing couldn’t endure Wen Ling’s direct stare any longer.
“Close your eyes!” she scolded.
But the soft, coquettish voice that emerged startled Gu Rongqing herself, let alone Wen Ling.
The way Wen Ling stared at her seemed almost fiery…
It made Gu Rongqing feel as though she were standing completely naked beneath Wen Ling’s gaze.
Pretending to be angry, Gu Rongqing glared at her and walked to the dressing table to apply her skincare products.
Only then did Wen Ling return to her senses.
She hadn’t expected herself to behave that way either. She awkwardly rubbed her nose, rose, and went into the bathroom.
After washing her face again, Wen Ling stared at herself in the mirror.
Wen Ling, have you gotten carried away lately?
They had been married for years, yet she had never stared so openly before.
Then she realized that wasn’t entirely right.
When they were legally married, they could do anything they wanted, in any way they wanted.
But now…
Perhaps she truly had been “starved” for too long.
When Wen Ling emerged, Gu Rongqing was already in bed, wrapped tightly in the blanket and lying at the very edge.
Seeing her return, Gu Rongqing quietly said, “You should sleep beside Xiao Nuan. I’m afraid I might roll over and crush her.”
Wen Ling nodded, switched off the lights, and climbed into bed.
Lying there, Wen Ling could clearly smell Gu Rongqing’s pleasant fragrance.
She was infatuated with that scent and instinctively inhaled deeply beneath the blanket.
Gu Rongqing clearly sensed what she was doing.
At first, she wondered what Wen Ling was up to. But when she faintly heard Wen Ling mumble, “You smell wonderful,” she understood.
Gu Rongqing turned her back to Wen Ling and touched her ears.
She knew they must be red.
Then Wen Ling suddenly spoke.
“Rongqing, do you know what you did the last time you were drunk?”
Wen Ling’s voice was quiet, but Gu Rongqing heard her.
She answered just as softly, “No.”
Wen Ling turned Gu Rongqing toward her.
They had been in the darkness long enough that they could faintly make out each other’s faces and expressions.
Gu Rongqing thought Wen Ling looked serious, as though she had something important to tell her.
Unexpectedly, Wen Ling suddenly pressed her down and bit her lip.
“Last time, you did this to me—and you went even further.”
Before Gu Rongqing could react, Wen Ling added, “I think it’s only fair that I return the favor.”
Gu Rongqing was about to ask what she intended to return when Wen Ling’s bite became a kiss, leaving damp warmth against her lips.
Gu Rongqing’s mind turned to mush, gradually losing itself in Wen Ling’s movements.
It wasn’t until Wen Ling’s hand began wandering that Gu Rongqing caught it.
“What exactly did I do?”
Seeing that Gu Rongqing’s gaze had regained some clarity, Wen Ling withdrew her hand.
“You truly don’t remember?”
Wen Ling suddenly remembered the call she had seemingly received from Gu Rongqing in the middle of the night, only a few days after returning to Jingcheng City.
She had always assumed she might have imagined it.
But after witnessing Gu Rongqing’s intoxicated behavior that night, Wen Ling had begun to wonder.
“The night before the reporters interviewed me, did you go out drinking?”
Gu Rongqing sank into thought.
Her memories of such things were poor to begin with. After thinking for a long time, she finally remembered.
“Chenxi invited me to dinner that night.”
Hearing Ji Chenxi’s name again immediately destroyed Wen Ling’s desire to continue the conversation.
Irritation rose inside her.
Did Gu Rongqing also act soft and spoiled with Ji Chenxi whenever she became drunk?
Jealousy made Wen Ling feel as though sour bubbles were rising inside her.
She turned away, lay down, and stopped paying attention to Gu Rongqing.
Gu Rongqing sensed the change in her mood and looked toward her.
Over the past several days, she had repeatedly wondered why they had divorced.
Perhaps Gu Rongqing had been too cold.
Or perhaps she simply didn’t understand emotions.
But seeing Wen Ling become upset because Gu Rongqing had gone to dinner with Ji Chenxi made her want to explain.
“Nothing is happening between Chenxi and me.”
Wen Ling didn’t react, so Gu Rongqing continued, “I already told you that I might like you, but I don’t like Chenxi.”
Gu Rongqing was unbearably embarrassed as she said those words.
In more than twenty years of life, she had rarely spoken this openly.
While they were together, she had believed that her life with Wen Ling was reasonably happy.
She hadn’t known how to play the role of a wife.
Sometimes she became so busy with work that she had little time to return home. But whenever she did come home, she enjoyed being there.
She had believed she was fulfilling her role.
She thought that never refusing Wen Ling and cooperating with her was enough.
Gu Rongqing had always taken it for granted that Wen Ling would lead their relationship and their marriage.
She hadn’t understood that when one person took the initiative for too long, they eventually became exhausted.
Because Gu Rongqing didn’t understand, Wen Ling had grown terribly tired.
Yet no matter how exhausted Wen Ling became, she still loved Gu Rongqing.
In the darkness, Gu Rongqing felt Wen Ling take her hand.
She tightened her fingers around Wen Ling’s in return.
“I don’t remember calling you, but I believe that if I called anyone after getting drunk, that person must have been you.”
Wen Ling moved over her and kissed her again.
Then she drew Gu Rongqing astride her lap.
Gu Rongqing felt Wen Ling begin tormenting her as wickedly as she used to.
How could they do this with Wen Nuan beside them?
Embarrassed, Gu Rongqing braced herself against Wen Ling’s shoulders and whispered, “Xiao Nuan is here.”
But Wen Ling ignored her warning.
Gu Rongqing could only indulge her, just as she had in the past.
Wen Ling loved treating Gu Rongqing this way.
Best Actress Gu, who stood so far above everyone else, would cry and beg for mercy in her hands.
Only when Gu Rongqing’s voice became tearful did Wen Ling feel somewhat satisfied.
Then, suddenly—
“Mama, Mommy, what are you doing?”
Neither of them had expected Wen Nuan to wake so abruptly.
The child’s question startled them so badly that neither dared move…
Only Gu Rongqing’s strained breathing could be heard in the dim room.
Gu Rongqing covered her mouth and gradually calmed her breathing as her awareness returned.
When she realized the position she and Wen Ling were in, she hurriedly climbed off Wen Ling’s lap and straightened her clothes.
The moment Gu Rongqing moved away, Wen Ling hurried to soothe their daughter.
Gu Rongqing watched as Wen Ling gently told her, “Mama and Mommy were talking. Did we wake you, baby?”
Wen Nuan nodded, then shook her head.
“You didn’t wake me… Mama, hug me.”
Wen Ling smiled, gathered Wen Nuan into her arms, and coaxed her back to sleep.
Gu Rongqing suddenly remembered Wen Ling’s actions, her own reactions, and the lingering traces of Wen Ling’s presence against her body.
An uncomfortable feeling rose inside her.
Wen Ling started whenever she pleased and stopped whenever she pleased…
It was extremely frustrating.
Gu Rongqing suddenly felt as though she were a little jealous of Wen Nuan…
