After the Scheming Girl Joined a Dating Show - Chapter 19
After finishing her magic trick, Xia Mozhu suddenly put on an expression of extreme regret.
Seeing her look, Su Qin’s brow furrowed slightly, and her fingers tightened around the rose she had just accepted.
Xia Mozhu pouted and said, “I forgot to touch your ear and ask, ‘Look, what’s this?’ Was that magic trick just now totally lacking a sense of surprise?”
Su Qin didn’t say anything. She simply used the rose in her hand to tap Xia Mozhu on the head, treating her like a little ditz.
The staff member filming the behind-the-scenes footage rewatched the video she had just taken from the side. The angle happened to be facing Su Qin’s face—the Celestial smiled! She definitely smiled! Although she suppressed it quickly, the shallow dimple on her face couldn’t lie!
The staffer couldn’t help but review it several times, wearing a “matchmaker auntie” grin. Waaaah, why is it this sweet!
Xia Mozhu refused to give up and pressed, “Did it actually give you a little fright or not?”
Su Qin shook her head.
Xia Mozhu’s head drooped, and she said dejectedly, “As I thought, it was a failed magic trick.”
The cameraman following them even felt the urge to open his mouth and tell her it wasn’t a failure at all; it had sparked a “maiden’s heart” even in a six-foot-tall hunk like him. Keep it coming!
Unfortunately, he was still on the clock and had to maintain professional discipline; he couldn’t make a sound.
Su Qin stood up and walked to a workbench. She meticulously wrapped the white rose in paper, placed it in a capsule-shaped glass container, and put it in her bag. She then handed the bag to her assistant to hold.
The staff nearby all shared the same feeling: with all those layers of packaging, it felt like Su the Celestial was afraid someone would steal her flower…
Su Qin sat back down next to Xia Mozhu and asked, “Where did you steal that flower from?”
Xia Mozhu guiltily stuck out her tongue. The raw material for the magic trick was indeed taken from this conservatory, but how could you call it “stealing”? She took it out in the open—no, she was going to pay for it later. It was “bought.”
Su Qin: “This is my grandmother’s conservatory. She can notice if even a single petal is missing.”
Xia Mozhu felt as if a petrification spell had been cast on her. She sat motionless, like a mannequin. No one had told her the date location belonged to her grandmother!
In her mind, she very familiarly started calling her “Grandma.”
After being petrified for a while, Xia Mozhu wiggled her eyebrows at the nearest staff member to show that she was very angry!
The production crew all struggled to hold back their laughter. It was just too amusing to see Little Bamboo lose her dreams like this. To own a conservatory this big within the Second Ring Road—would the owner even care about the rental fee?
They had told her in advance that they wouldn’t have been able to get in if Su Qin hadn’t contacted the place. So, the crew wasn’t taking the blame for this “crash”!
Xia Mozhu looked like she was about to cry. She poked Su Qin’s leg with her finger and even scratched at her pants twice, whispering, “Help me explain to Grandma, please? I didn’t do it on purpose.”
Su Qin’s back, which was already straight, became even straighter—stiff, even.
Seeing that she was being ignored, Xia Mozhu’s puppy eyes beamed “puppy-waves” at Su Qin: “Please? Pretty please? Please?”
Su Qin caught Xia Mozhu’s scratching paw and said, “You already gave the flower to me. It’s mine now.”
Her tone and expression looked cold, but her words were protective. She was clearly saying that even if Grandma noticed a flower was missing, Grandma would have to ask her for it.
Xia Mozhu, having gained an advantage, decided to lecture her. She said with a serious face, “You should have told me earlier. Then I wouldn’t have touched anything. An elderly person will be heartbroken over a missing flower. Let’s put it back.” Her tone was exactly like a dean lecturing a primary schooler.
The cameraman held his breath, not daring to make a sound. Little Xia was truly a “newborn calf unafraid of the tiger.”
Su Qin: “Do you usually take back gifts you give to others?”
Xia Mozhu: “You aren’t ‘others’.”
After saying it, she felt it sounded a bit weird and quickly added, “No, I mean I’ll buy a new one. Put Grandma’s precious flower back, I’m begging you.”
Ever since hearing Su Qin say Grandma could notice a single missing petal, Xia Mozhu’s mind was entirely occupied with putting the flower back. She didn’t even care about filming the show anymore; if she made an elder angry, what a terrible impression she would leave!
Su Qin seemed to be stubborn as well. She said, “It won’t survive for more than a few days even if you put it back now.”
Xia Mozhu opened her mouth but couldn’t argue. She had snuck off and used scissors to cut it; sticking it back in would only be a superficial deception, though at least there would be a “whole corpse.”
“Forget about it.” Su Qin regretted bringing up the topic.
“Then can you call Grandma? I want to apologize to her.” Xia Mozhu coaxed Su Qin in a soft, wheedling voice, “Please, please~”
Su Qin cleared her throat, checked the time, and dialed a video call.
Xia Mozhu, completely oblivious, took the phone. She was about to put it to her ear when she saw the video interface and nearly threw the phone away. It was a hot potato!
Before she could toss it, the video connected.
A kind-looking, elegant old lady appeared on the screen. Xia Mozhu immediately pointed the phone at Su Qin, her own eyebrows trembling in fear.
“Grandma, I’m recording a show,” Su Qin said as soon as she spoke, keeping it concise. “My date wants to say hello to you.”
Hearing this, Xia Mozhu’s face turned purple. She really wanted to explain to the phone: Not a date! Just a regular show guest!
“Hello, Grandma.” Xia Mozhu gritted her teeth and turned the phone toward herself. She greeted her with a smile, her heart racing with panic while her surface remained calm.
“Oh, it’s Xiao Qin’s little friend,” the old lady said with a hearty laugh. “You went to my conservatory for your date today?”
“Ah, yes! It’s very beautiful here.” Xia Mozhu breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed the elder hadn’t misunderstood; a “little friend date” was also a date.
The old lady looked proud. “Of course it is!”
Xia Mozhu thought the old lady was adorable. This confidence was identical to Su Qin’s; it seemed Senior Su Qin’s temperament was hereditary.
She licked her dry lips and spoke carefully, “Grandma, I took one of your flowers. I didn’t mean to, I didn’t know it was yours. I… I… I was wrong!”
The old lady showed a momentary look of “heart-sting,” but it flashed by in an instant. She naturally wouldn’t get angry with a junior she was meeting for the first time. She comforted her, “It’s fine, just a flower. Take it if you took it.”
Xia Mozhu immediately beamed with joy and said, “If I have a chance in the future, I’ll help you plant them together!”
The old lady laughed, “You made a special call just for this?”
Xia Mozhu: “Flowers you grow yourself must be very precious to you. I had to apologize immediately.” After speaking, she stole a glance at Su Qin. It’s all because Senior scared me!
“What a good child,” the old lady said. “I won’t disturb your date anymore. Have a good time.”
Xia Mozhu nodded sweetly and said goodbye to the elder.
Having handled a major crisis, the weight in her heart finally dropped. But when she looked up, the entire production crew was staring at her.
If one could hear their inner thoughts, they were probably saying in unison: “Holy moly! On the first date, she’s already met Su the Celestial’s family. This is light-speed progress!”
