After the Scumbag Alpha Tries to Save the Love-Struck and Flips Over (Quick Transmigration GL) - Chapter 41
After getting dressed and washing up, Shen Su glanced at the time. She hurriedly boiled a few eggs and warmed up two bottles of pure milk, placing them in a bag to serve as today’s breakfast.
Just as she finished, Lu Yan stepped out, saying hesitantly, “I might not have time for breakfast…”
“I’ve already prepared it for you. Let’s go.” Shen Su handed the bag to Lu Yan.
Lu Yan gave Shen Su a sweet smile. “Thank you!”
In an instant, Shen Su’s mood brightened considerably, and the unease brought by that bizarre dream gradually dissipated. After dropping Lu Yan off and watching her enter the office building, Shen Su headed back to her car. She had just buckled her seatbelt when she received a message from her father.
“Don’t forget to report in today. Don’t be late.”
Fine. She had to go to work, too.
Shen Su let out a long sigh and drove toward her family’s company, arriving with only thirty seconds to spare.
The sight of Lu Yan stepping out of a car was witnessed by colleagues and quickly spread throughout the entire office. The fact that a C-rank Omega possessed professional capabilities that rivaled Alphas was already hard for many to believe. There were always those arrogant and pathetic individuals who felt that an Omega couldn’t possibly be this talented and must have used some “underhanded means” to climb to her position.
Because of this, Lu Yan had endured countless rumors to reach her current status. No sooner had she sat down than an Alpha colleague asked, “Lu Yan, do you have a partner? How come there’s no scent of pheromones on you? You haven’t been marked yet, have you? Are you still coming to the company’s anniversary dinner next week alone?”
Next week was the company’s 20th-anniversary gala, and employees were allowed to bring partners.
Lu Yan’s hands paused while sorting documents. Back when she was “together” with Sheng Suyu, the latter had once driven her to work in a limited-edition supercar. Since then, rumors about her being a gold-digger had run rampant.
“I’m single,” Lu Yan replied flatly, too lazy to care about whatever filthy thoughts were in that Alpha’s head. She had always believed that one should stand on their performance in a company.
The Alpha let out a disdainful, cold sneer.
Shen Su finally endured until the end of the workday. She received an invitation in her inbox—it was for the CY Company anniversary gala. She was about to delete the email when she suddenly remembered that Lu Yan worked there. As an employee, she would likely attend.
With that in mind, Shen Su sent Lu Yan a message: 【Are you free tonight?】
Shen Su leaned on her desk and waited. Even as her colleagues packed up and left, Lu Yan didn’t reply. Is she working overtime? Dammit!
Shen Su got up, drove to Lu Yan’s office building, and looked up. Sure enough, the lights were still on. Just then, her phone vibrated.
【Sorry, I have to work late tonight.】
Shen Su brushed her thumb over the steering wheel, thought for a moment, and sent another message.
【Have you eaten dinner?】
Lu Yan replied quickly: 【Not yet.】
Shen Su’s lips curled. She opened Lu Yan’s social media and scrolled to a recent post: 【Unexpectedly delicious!】 The photo was of a box of Pan-Fried Buns (Shengjian mantou), and the comments were mostly asking for the shop’s name. Lu Yan had replied with the name of the store.
Shen Su opened her GPS; it was very close to Lu Yan’s office, just a short walk away. She parked her car and headed to the shop. Since it was dinner time, there was a long queue, and it took about ten minutes for her to get the order.
Originally, Shen Su wanted to deliver it herself, but the building required facial recognition at the entrance. So, she pretended to be a delivery person and called Lu Yan: “Hello, your delivery has arrived. Please come down to the first floor to collect it.”
Lu Yan glanced at the Alpha who had mocked her earlier; he was currently eating a takeout meal. She stood up and said with feigned calm, “Okay, I’ll be right down.”
In reality, her heart was overflowing with joy, and her steps were light as she headed downstairs. Once on the first floor, she spotted Shen Su sitting on the sofa immediately. Shen Su was holding a bag from the familiar bun shop. Lu Yan quickened her pace: “Sugar, why are you here?”
“I was afraid you’d be too busy to remember to eat, so I brought you this.” Shen Su handed her the bag with a smile.
Lu Yan took it happily but still said, “I’ve troubled you again. It’s okay, I could have ordered delivery myself.”
Shen Su raised an eyebrow. “Well, did you?”
Lu Yan blushed slightly. “No, I was too busy just now and didn’t have time.”
“Working late tonight?” Shen Su asked.
Lu Yan nodded. “The project is at a critical stage.”
“No matter how busy you are, you can’t forget to eat.” Shen Su gently pinched Lu Yan’s cute cheek.
“There’s a staff cafeteria on the first floor; we can eat there. Have you eaten?” Lu Yan pulled Shen Su by the wrist toward the cafeteria.
“I…” Shen Su originally intended to go home to eat, but she changed her tune. “I think I forgot to eat, too.”
Lu Yan let out a soft huff and pulled her into the cafeteria. “And you have the nerve to lecture me? See if there’s anything you want; I’ll get it for you.”
Shen Su nodded. “Okay. But I’ve never been here. Yan Yan, you order for me; I trust your taste.”
Lu Yan followed her own experience and ordered one meat dish and one vegetable dish. The portions were generous, enough for one person. They sat in a corner facing each other. Shen Su watched as Lu Yan took a small bite of a bun, but her cheeks were soon stuffed full of food. So cute.
Sensing the gaze, Lu Yan blinked. “Does Sugar want a bun too? Want a taste?”
Shen Su wouldn’t refuse, so she nodded. Lu Yan carefully picked up a bun with her chopsticks and held it to Shen Su’s lips. “Be careful, it’s hot. Take a small bite first because the soup inside will burst…”
Shen Su ate according to the instructions, her lips seemingly unintentionally brushing against the chopsticks Lu Yan had used. After swallowing, Shen Su smiled. “It really is delicious.”
“As long as you like it…” Lu Yan beamed.
“By the way,” Shen Su asked while eating, “is your company holding an anniversary gala?”
Lu Yan’s hand paused. “How did you know?”
“They sent me an invitation. I wasn’t planning on going, but then I remembered it’s your company, so I kind of want to go now,” Shen Su said slowly.
Lu Yan’s eyes flickered. “Why?”
Shen Su said with a beaming smile, “I imagine this gala is quite important to you. You’ll probably dress up beautifully, right? So, I’d like to see it.”
Lu Yan looked down. “It’s not really that important, just a dinner. I’ll probably just wear an ordinary dress.” She couldn’t afford a high-fashion gown.
“There might be many potential clients at this gala; don’t let your guard down…” Shen Su paused, then reminded her, “Since CY sent an invitation to the Shen Group—with whom they have no cooperation—they likely sent invitations to other companies too. This gala might hold many opportunities.”
“Thanks for the reminder, Sugar. I’ll keep it in mind.” Lu Yan looked up, an invitation on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it. She mocked herself internally; why would someone who looked down on a company invitation accompany her to the gala?
To her surprise, Shen Su leaned in the next second and asked, “I don’t like attending galas alone. Can you accompany me? As my date—would that be okay?”
Lu Yan’s mouth parted slightly. “This…”
“Are you unwilling?” Shen Su lowered her lashes, feigning disappointment. “It’s okay, I—”
“I’m willing,” Lu Yan said immediately.
Shen Su’s eyebrows curved, her eyes full of warmth. “That’s wonderful. You don’t need to prepare anything; I’ll handle all the arrangements.”
“Nothing at all?” Lu Yan thought that if she were appearing with Shen Su, she certainly couldn’t wear an ordinary dress.
“Right,” Shen Su affirmed. “I’ll arrange the hair, makeup, and dress. You just need to stand by my side. Of course, if you don’t like too much attention or the cameras, you can refuse. Don’t force yourself or feel embarrassed.”
Lu Yan said without hesitation, “I am very willing to be with Sugar!”
“Good, then I’ll count on you.” Shen Su took a sip of the tomato and egg soup and smiled gracefully at Lu Yan.
“It’s no trouble at all. In fact, I’m very happy.” Every second spent with Shen Su made her feel incredibly joyful.
After finishing the meal, Shen Su watched Lu Yan enter the elevator. She looked down at a single strand of hair clutched in her palm before slowly walking away.
When Shen Su arrived home, she happened to run into her parents walking in the courtyard.
“Back so early?” Shen Mother looked at her with a smile, then glanced behind her. “Didn’t bring anyone back?”
Shen Father narrowed his eyes. “Could it be you still haven’t caught her?”
Shen Su cleared her throat. “Time is on my side!”
“Susu has a point, you can’t rush these things,” Shen Mother smiled, patting the back of her husband’s hand.
Shen Father nodded. “By the way, if you want to do a compatibility test, go find Dr. Li at the First People’s Hospital. She’ll arrange it quickly, but she’s going abroad for a conference next week. Hurry up.”
Shen Su nodded thoughtfully. She’d do the test next week. Conveniently, her senior from school was transferring to that hospital next week. If the compatibility turned out low, she could always pull some strings.
“Susu, what does that Omega look like? I’m almost impatient to meet her,” Shen Mother said expectantly. Many Alphas and Omegas got engaged shortly after turning eighteen, but Shen Su had gone abroad for years. Her peers were already having children, while Shen Su was still slowly pursuing someone.
Shen Su thought for a moment. “I expect Mom will see her this weekend.”
“Oh? Planning to bring her home this weekend? Do we need to prepare anything?” Shen Father mused. “Does she have food allergies? What flowers does she like? We can plant some new ones in the garden.”
Shen Su chuckled. “No, I’m incompetent; I haven’t won her over yet. But I’ve successfully invited her to a gala this weekend. There will likely be reporters, so you’ll probably see high-definition photos of her.”
“I see…” Shen Father nodded. “Is it the CY gala? Then you go. I’ll take your mother to the beach for a trip.”
“Okay, Mom and Dad. Have a great time.”
Shen Su hurried back to her room. She turned on the light and looked out the window, seeing her parents still walking below, looking very much in love. Shen Su pulled the curtains and sighed; such a scene was likely difficult to achieve for her and Lu Yan.
After washing up, she sent Lu Yan a message: 【Are you off work?】
Lu Yan replied instantly: 【Just got off.】
Shen Su glanced at the time in the corner of her phone and cursed under her breath. Evil capitalists! Wait—did she just curse her own family, too? But her company followed the law and never did “996” (9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week).
Shen Su lay down peacefully and continued messaging Lu Yan.
【Are you going home? Or going to see Mao Mao?】
A minute later, Lu Yan replied: 【Are you there?】
Shen Su stared at the ceiling, her fingers flying across the screen.
【I’m at home. I have someone looking after Mao Mao. You can go see her whenever you want. It’s okay to stay the night; it’s not far from your office anyway.】
Two minutes later, Lu Yan replied with a cat emoji meaning “Okay.”
Lu Yan felt a bit nervous standing outside the apartment. Logic told her this was inappropriate, but emotion drove her here. She entered the code and the door opened. No one was inside.
Hearing the movement, Mao Mao trotted to the entrance. Seeing it was Lu Yan, she let out an obedient “Meow~”
Lu Yan’s heart settled. She squatted down and rubbed the kitten’s head. “Were you a good girl today?” Mao Mao rubbed against her palm and gave it a lick.
Lu Yan picked her up with a smile. “Do you miss Sugar? Pity she didn’t come…” Mao Mao let out a confused cry.
“I had a beautiful dream here last time. It would be nice if I could keep dreaming.” Lu Yan sighed, sat on the sofa with the cat, and started a video call with Shen Su.
