After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 13
Before leaving Huo Juan’s apartment, Pei Yule speculated that Huo Juan lived there alone. The space wasn’t particularly large—just a three-bedroom apartment. Though fully furnished, it felt cold and lonely, lacking any signs of life; he hadn’t seen anyone else besides Huo Juan.
There was another reason Pei Yule suspected he lived alone: the air in this space was saturated with Huo Juan’s pheromones, with no trace of anyone else’s scent.
Huo Juan picked up the car keys from the table and turned back just in time to see Pei Yule’s nose twitching, his fluffy head turning this way and that as if sniffing for something.
He paused and asked, “…What are you doing?”
“Uh.”
Caught red-handed sniffing pheromones, Pei Yule imagined how strange he must look. He rubbed his nose and said, “I just thought it smelled quite nice.”
Nice?
Huo Juan, who didn’t keep any incense in the house, flicked his eyelids and shot Pei Yule a glance. He said nothing and led him out the door.
Once outside, Pei Yule realized that this apartment was actually a detached unit. The front door opened into a small garden with a petite fountain. Calling it an apartment was an understatement; it was more like a villa. There were other individual houses nearby, but they were separated by a dozen meters—minding their own business.
Quite interesting, Pei Yule thought. His eyes shifted to the keys in Huo Juan’s hand.
Speaking of which, Student Huo Juan said he’d take him home, but was he even eighteen? Did he have a driver’s license?
While Pei Yule was still wondering, Huo Juan led him past the garden into the garage. He walked straight to a heavy motorcycle, inserted the key, and swung a leg over the seat in one swift motion.
Pei Yule was stunned.
He’s going to use this to take me back?!
Pei Yule was a man, and men generally love vehicles. Although he was a shut-in, it didn’t stop him from sharing that hobby. His eyes locked onto the black-and-red motorcycle; he couldn’t look away.
It was too cool—sleek lines, a polished body, and the perfect combination of black and red made the machine incredibly eye-catching. It was easy to fall in love with at first sight.
Pei Yule looked it over and couldn’t help but ask, “You’re using this to send me back?”
“Mm.” Huo Juan picked up a helmet and shoved it toward him. “Put it on.”
Pei Yule caught the round helmet with both hands. He watched as Huo Juan put on his own helmet, turned the key, and started the engine. The heavy motorcycle emitted a low, throaty growl.
After a few seconds, Huo Juan noticed Pei Yule hadn’t moved and looked up at him.
“Get on.”
It was a concise command as usual. The Alpha’s dark eyes stared through the visor, making his emotions even harder to read.
“Oh, right.” Pei Yule snapped out of it, put on the helmet, and hopped onto the back seat.
His seat met a cold, solid surface. The low growl connected to the motor’s “thut-thut-thut” vibration, which filled him with a sense of power. This motorcycle felt a bit lower than others he had sat on; if Huo Juan were to ride it, his upper body would have to lean forward over the tank.
This kind of bike was built for speed, not professionally designed for passengers. However, Pei Yule wasn’t afraid; he was excited.
He couldn’t help it—this bike was incredibly badass. He didn’t know how to ride one himself, but being a passenger was cool enough!
He gripped the recessed iron frame behind the seat and waited patiently for the bike to take off.
Huo Juan saw that he was settled and holding on securely. He twisted the throttle once, then suddenly stopped.
Pei Yule had slept for most of the day, and it was now 8:00 PM. The early winter night air was even colder. Pei Yule’s fever had only just broken; even with clothes and a jacket, there was no guarantee the night wind wouldn’t cause a relapse. After all, he had caught the fever because of a chill.
The doctor who had visited said this Beta had a weak constitution; he was prone to fevers and colds whenever he got chilled and needed to build up his health.
Pei Yule didn’t know what Huo Juan was thinking. He waited patiently for a moment, wondering why he hadn’t started yet. Just as he was about to ask, he saw Huo Juan turn off the engine and take off his helmet.
“Get off.”
“?”
Pei Yule was baffled. Before he could react, he was pulled off the bike by the Alpha. Huo Juan then led him out of the garden toward a nearby villa not far away.
“Huo Juan, what are you doing?” Pei Yule tried to pull his hand away, but it didn’t budge. He completely misunderstood the intention. “We’re not taking the bike?” He thought the Alpha had changed his mind about taking him home. “Actually, it’s still early. I’m a grown man, I’m not afraid of walking at night. I can just go back myself…”
“I’m taking you.”
Huo Juan only gave that answer and ignored Pei Yule further, walking straight to the villa’s door and pressing the doorbell.
They waited a moment before there was movement inside.
The front door opened, and Xu Yanxi poked his head out, wearing a bathrobe with slightly damp hair. He stared at the two of them with a conflicted expression. “I wondered who it was. Big brother, you sure have a sense of timing.”
So, the person living in this villa was Xu Yanxi. The moment he opened the door, a thick scent of pheromones wafted out, accompanied by a faint scent of violets…
Body wash?
Was he just taking a shower?
What a coincidence…
The thought crossed Pei Yule’s mind. Perhaps because Xu Yanxi’s pheromones were so fragrant, he suddenly felt his limbs go weak, just like when he was suppressed by Huo Juan’s pheromones before—
“Whoa!” Pei Yule’s vision suddenly shifted. The grip on his wrist tightened as Huo Juan yanked him back, using his own body to block Xu Yanxi.
Then he heard Huo Juan say, “Retract your pheromones.”
“…”
Xu Yanxi arched an eyebrow and said cryptically, “That’s asking a bit much of me.”
After all, his pheromones had been triggered and he couldn’t calm them down yet. He took a deep breath and added, “Setting that aside, why are you looking for me?”
Huo Juan immediately understood what he was dealing with and didn’t press further. Instead, he said, “Lend me your car and driver for a bit.”
Lend?
This guy only ever rode his motorcycle when going out; since when did he take a car? If it weren’t for that, the Huo family elders wouldn’t be having such a headache…
Xu Yanxi’s gaze inadvertently caught the top of the fluffy head behind Huo Juan. Realizing the situation, he said readily, “Sure.”
Sitting in the back of the car borrowed from Xu Yanxi, Pei Yule still couldn’t quite process things. Why the sudden change of vehicles?
He asked, “We’re not riding the motorcycle?”
“Mm.”
Huo Juan answered casually, clearly not intending to explain. He asked, “Give him the address.”
This person’s personality was truly impulsive—doing whatever he felt like. Pei Yule had no choice but to give his home address. As the car glided forward, he fully realized he was destined not to ride that heavy motorcycle today.
He couldn’t hide his regret. He had really wanted to try it.
Perhaps his expression was too obvious, because Huo Juan noticed and said, “If you want to ride the motorcycle, you can next time.”
Next time?
No, no—that wouldn’t be necessary.
After accepting his help today, it felt like they were getting too entangled. If possible, he hoped the two of them wouldn’t have any more interactions. Though that was probably impossible.
Pei Yule gave a few dry laughs, deciding to try his best to make the impossible possible.
The car stopped smoothly in front of an apartment building. Pei Yule was the first to open the door and get out. He then turned back to Huo Juan and said, “Thank you for taking me home. Um, I have something to tell you. Can you give me a moment?” He shifted his gaze to the driver in the front seat. “Mr. Driver, could you wait a second? I’ll just be a minute.”
The driver instinctively glanced at Huo Juan’s face and waved his hands in a bit of a panic. “No, no problem.”
Huo Juan looked at Pei Yule for two seconds and got out from the other side of the car.
Beside the car, the two stood face-to-face.
Pei Yule gave Huo Juan a slight bow, expressing his gratitude formally. “Thank you very much for today. I caused you trouble, I’m really sorry.”
Huo Juan said, “Is this what you wanted to tell me?”
Of course not. But he needed an opening to set the mood. Going straight to the point felt a bit wrong.
Pei Yule scratched his head. Using the mental preparation he had made during the ride, and seeing that the Alpha was conscious and seemingly easier to talk to, he brought it up again. “It’s about the thing from a few days ago. I’m sorry, I made a mistake back then. Regarding the dating thing I mentioned, can you act like it never happened?”
Unlike his previous response of “I’m the one who has the final say,” Huo Juan just stared at him silently for a while before asking, “What did you get wrong? The target?”
Pei Yule hesitated for a moment.
He realized that once a lie starts, it takes countless more to cover it up. He had messed up before and couldn’t repeat the mistake just to get rid of Huo Juan. However, telling the absolute truth was too difficult—how could he explain transmigrating into a book? So, Pei Yule chose what he could say: “It’s not that I got the target wrong, but I got the way of handling things wrong. I happened to run into you and used you to fool someone. I’ve reflected deeply on it; it was my fault.”
He paused and steeled himself to continue. “Anyway, for whatever trouble I caused you, I’m willing to make it up to you…”
Huo Juan listened to the vague explanation and said flatly, “In other words, you don’t like me.”
Hearing the simple summary, Pei Yule nodded quickly. “That’s right. So I’m really sorry. Just pretend I had water in my brain that day and wasn’t thinking straight…”
“I don’t care.”
To his surprise, Huo Juan cut him off and said in a cool tone, “And I don’t need your compensation.”
He took a step back and reached for the car door. As he opened it, he turned back toward Pei Yule, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. For a moment, his expression was quite intriguing as he said, “But you need to take responsibility.”
Responsibility?
What responsibility? Why does he make it sound like I did something to him?
Technically, you’re the one who keeps getting handsy, Pei Yule thought, momentarily speechless. Under Huo Juan’s direct gaze, he felt strangely intimidated, and his voice dropped. “What responsibility?”
Huo Juan didn’t elaborate. Instead, he got into the car and dropped one final, light sentence before closing the door:
“Goodnight.”
The car glided forward and gradually accelerated, leaving the dazed Pei Yule behind.
Huo Juan lowered his head, his fingers curling slowly into a fist. The passing streetlights flashed across his downcast face, alternating between light and shadow.
A faint, persistent ache came from his knuckles.
It was originally bearable. For ten years, he had been used to this pain.
However, once one has tasted the peace and comfort of its absence, they no longer want to endure it.
So, take responsibility.
Pei Yule felt that things had been a bit strange lately.
The day he caught a fever and fell asleep at school, Huo Juan took him home. He was grateful for the care; usually, his illnesses dragged on for days, but that time he woke up and the fever was gone. It was likely thanks to the doctor Huo Juan called. But it would have been better if he hadn’t been carried away by Huo Juan in the middle of class; Pei Yule could well imagine how much attention they had drawn.
Being close to Huo Juan and entering his private school territory was already enough to invite jealousy. Adding to that being taken away to his villa—if all this became known, Pei Yule felt he shouldn’t be surprised if he got doused with water again.
Maybe even something worse.
However, despite his days of worrying, nothing happened. The following days were very peaceful. No one made things difficult for him or played pranks. People no longer stared at him and Huo Juan openly; they shifted to doing it secretly, even though he was brought into the private territory several more times.
Regarding this, Fei Yisa had something to say: “Of course. After all, that Omega has already transferred schools. No one dares to annoy Huo Juan anymore.”
Pei Yule was completely out of the loop. “Who?”
“Who else,” Fei Yisa said. “The Omega who played that prank on you.”
