After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 29
That gaze carried a flicker of heat that felt almost scorching. Pei Yule’s heart skipped a beat, but before he could discern anything further, Huo Juan had already lowered his head, withdrawing his gaze.
It was as if that burning look had been nothing more than an illusion.
Huo Juan’s drenched, rain-slicked appearance incited a fresh wave of passion from his admirers. Pei Yule’s ears hurt from the continuous screaming; feeling it wasn’t the right time to linger, he shrugged and simply turned to leave.
The 3,000-meter run was the highlight of the sports meet. Since all Alphas were mandatory participants, it was the only event where you could see the entire school’s Alpha population in action. Without those few standout Alphas, the remaining events like soccer and basketball seemed to lose a bit of their luster. While the matches were still exciting, they ultimately didn’t garner as much attention as the long-distance run.
Time trickled by, and in a blink, red clouds drifted across the horizon; daylight was about to vanish.
With all events concluded and the final trophies distributed, the sports meet came to a close, leaving only the post-event cleanup. Pei Yule, feeling he had been quite idle all morning, helped pack things up. He circled the playground several times, moving back and forth until his waist ached and his back felt numb. By the time he got home, showered, and lay down, he felt a wave of soreness wash over him.
However, though his body was exhausted, his spirits were high. It had been a long time since he’d enjoyed the sweat-soaked life of a high schooler. It felt good; he felt like he’d regained a few years of youth.
In reality, he had only left high school two years ago, but the mindset of a university student is worlds apart from that of a high schooler. Today’s sports meet had helped him find that lost feeling.
Pei Yule grabbed a quick bite before bed. His fatigue caught up with him, and he fell asleep almost as soon as he hit the mattress.
And then… he had a dream.
In the dream, someone was watching him. Watching wasn’t enough; occasionally, the person would reach out and touch him.
Cheeks, nose, lips…
Everywhere that could be touched was touched. Yet the movements were so light, as if they didn’t want to wake him. As a result, the touch was so faint it made him itch all over. Pei Yule wanted to protest but couldn’t open his eyes—it felt like something was preventing him from waking. He could only helplessly allow that person to touch him over and over.
The feeling was agonizing. He’d rather the person be a bit more forceful and get it over with. Being this gentle, he couldn’t even wake up.
The dream skipped. In a flash, the scene changed to a bathroom filled with thick white mist. Pei Yule stood in the center of the fog, hearing the sound of a shower running nearby.
Who’s showering?
Pei Yule couldn’t help but look over. Amidst the swirling mist, he first saw a pale, firm back, but it was partially obscured by the fog, appearing and disappearing. When it was clear, Pei Yule could see wet black hair clinging to the person’s neck. Droplets of water wound their way down that beautifully lined neck, disappearing into the small of the back before slowly sliding further down.
A guy? Who?
Wait, it didn’t matter who it was. If anything, he should be glad it was a guy. Pei Yule breathed a sigh of relief inwardly; he had been worried about what he’d do if it were a girl—wouldn’t that make him a creep? But then he thought, even a guy wasn’t necessarily “safe.” If the person were a male Omega, peeping like this would still be a violation.
While the mist was thick and he’d only seen a back, he decided it was better to retreat…
As Pei Yule took a step back, the man in the shower seemed to hear the sound. He slowly turned off the water. As the sound of the shower died, he turned his head and looked at Pei Yule.
His bangs were raked back, fully revealing a wet, handsome face. That face was already exceptionally handsome, but now, drenched in water, its lethality had increased tenfold. The slicked-back hair made the sharpness of his features even more striking. The person didn’t speak; he just stared silently. Water droplets slowly gathered along the line of his jaw before—drip—falling away.
Gulp!
The visual impact was so direct that Pei Yule’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He instinctively swallowed hard.
When Pei Yule woke up the next day, he sat on his bed for nearly ten minutes with a blank, listless expression. Even after sleeping for ten hours, he felt like he hadn’t slept enough.
He had spent the entire night dreaming of those agonizing touches and a scene that was far too erotic for two men. Consequently, the fatigue accumulated from the sports meet hadn’t dissipated at all; he felt even more exhausted after waking.
Why did I have a dream like that? Could it be because I saw Huo Juan drenched yesterday?
Of all things to dream about, why a grown man showering? Pei Yule felt a bit frustrated. He sat on the bed and buried himself under the duvet, trying to scrub the vivid images from his mind. He decided to pretend the dream never happened.
He stayed in that position for a few minutes until the images had mostly faded, then looked at the time on his phone.
9:10 AM.
Usually, he would be in class by now. Fortunately, because of the sports meet yesterday, the school had given everyone the day off as compensation. He had time for a nap.
But before a nap, he had to fill his stomach.
Yawning as he climbed out of bed, Pei Yule decided to go forage for food. He washed up and opened the fridge.
Nothing.
Pei Yule wasn’t much of a cook, so he didn’t stock up often, usually opting to eat out. Now that he suddenly wanted to boil some noodles, he found he didn’t even have a single egg. No noodles, either.
Truly at the end of his rations. He had eaten very casually before bed—just some bread he’d brought back from the sports meet—and hadn’t realized he was out of food. His stomach was growling incessantly now, sounding like it was hiding two annoying, hungry chickens.
To avoid starving and to keep his weak constitution from getting worse, Pei Yule had no choice but to change and head out.
The moment he stepped outside, a freezing wind blew. He instantly regretted it and didn’t want to eat anymore. Wouldn’t it be better to sleep? This wind is going to kill me…
Muttering to himself, he shivered his way toward the nearest food street. Although his place was rented, the original owner’s parents had picked a prime location for him; it was only a few minutes’ walk to the commercial and food streets. But even during those few minutes, Pei Yule felt the urge to turn back and go home numerous times.
It was just too cold. Seeing people on the street in thin autumn clothes while he was wrapped in heavy winter gear made him feel completely out of place.
After walking for a bit, he finally spotted a bun shop. Thinking of the cold, he decided to just buy a few buns to last the day and stock up properly tomorrow before class.
Just then, two people approached him. A familiar face came into view, and the dream he had forcefully erased came rushing back.
The white mist… the water droplets sliding down skin… those intense, shimmering eyes…
Why is he here!
By the time Pei Yule reacted, he had already spun around to face a storefront. He quickly pulled his hood up, pretending to browse the items in the window while waiting for the two to pass.
Keep walking, keep walking… After having a dream like that, the last person he wanted to see was Huo Juan.
Xu Yanxi was saying, “My uncle says he wants to meet you, otherwise he won’t let me give you the medicine. I tried my best, but I couldn’t convince him. Don’t blame me.”
Huo Juan replied, “Mm.”
Xu Yanxi added, “Actually, I don’t agree with it either. If the X-supplement isn’t strong enough, we should try something else. The U-type drug has too many risks; I don’t recommend it. My uncle feels the same way, so you’ll have to handle it yourself.”
Huo Juan remained as concise as ever: “Mm.”
Xu Yanxi: “My uncle happens to be off today, so I invited him to lunch. The Sichuan place here is his absolute favorite; I hope a little brown-nosing helps. Speaking of which, I’m running a bit low on suppressants…”
Huo Juan finally spoke more than a syllable: “You’ve been using suppressants quite frequently lately.”
Xu Yanxi arched an eyebrow. “I’m a healthy teenager in body and mind; being impulsive is normal—”
What are they talking about?
Pei Yule pricked up his ears, catching bits of their conversation but not really understanding it. There were several terms he’d never heard of. His hiding maneuver was quick, and since Huo Juan and Xu Yanxi were focused on their conversation, he hadn’t initially drawn their attention.
However, because he was wearing so many layers today, he looked bulky and conspicuous standing in front of the window. Xu Yanxi was laughing, but he noticed Huo Juan had stopped and was looking ahead.
Hmm? What’s up? Who did he see?
Xu Yanxi followed Huo Juan’s gaze. From the reflection in the window, he saw Pei Yule’s face hidden inside the hood. He looked like he’d discovered a new continent. “Yo! Look who it is! Isn’t it our little Classmate Pei!”
“………………..”
Pei Yule hadn’t expected to be recognized like this. Seeing him stay still, Xu Yanxi laughed and walked over. Knowing better than to put an arm around Pei Yule’s shoulder in front of an Alpha as possessive as Huo Juan, he just playfully tugged at the fur on Pei Yule’s hood.
“What are you doing here? You—”
As he spoke, he looked at the shop Pei Yule was facing. Once he saw what it was, the expression on his face turned very subtle. He glanced back at Huo Juan, then back at Pei Yule, and couldn’t help but click his tongue. “As expected of a healthy teenager in body and mind. It seems our little Classmate Pei has reached the age where he needs these kinds of things…”
What the hell?
Pei Yule didn’t understand why his tone was so weird or why he was dragging out his words. He shot him a confused look, then followed Xu Yanxi’s gaze to the shop window. Once he saw what was being sold, his face turned beet red.
It was an Adult Toy Store!
“This… this… this…”
The window was full of strangely shaped and unmistakable items. Even though Pei Yule tried to stay calm, faced with this “social death” scenario, he couldn’t help but panic. “This isn’t…”
“Isn’t what?”
Huo Juan, who had been silent, slowly stepped forward. His voice was deep as he asked the question.
