After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 21.2
Fortunately, the bed was equipped with curtains. While they couldn’t enclose the whole bed, they could block both sides. These were designed for sleeping in the summer to prevent sunlight from disturbing sleep, but right now they served perfectly as a screen.
She moved a chair to the bedside so Xie Shuyun could place the basin on it. Cheng Lingxue then pulled the curtains shut and went to the other side, keeping a slight distance. This showed respect for the person inside while allowing her to react immediately if something happened.
It also allowed Cheng Lingxue to handle some of her own business. She checked the messages on her phone, but kept her ears open for any movement inside.
Hearing the sounds of turning and wringing water without any strange noises, she felt a bit more at ease.
“Um… I’m done…” A tiny, mosquito-like voice came from inside. If Cheng Lingxue hadn’t been paying attention, she might have missed it. She raised an eyebrow and didn’t pull the curtain back fully, instead peeking in slightly.
The water was placed safely on the chair without spilling. The bed looked normal. Xie Shuyun was back under the covers, her face pink from the warmth of the water. Finally, Cheng Lingxue’s gaze landed on the nightstand—on a crumpled pile of something.
It was the pajamas, bundled into a ball.
Noticing Cheng Lingxue’s gaze, Xie Shuyun’s face turned bright red. She gripped the edge of the blanket and said in a small voice:
“Just leave that there. Someone will come to collect it later.”
“So you aren’t wearing anything right now?” Cheng Lingxue raised an eyebrow. she had forgotten about the need for fresh clothes, so… was Xie Shuyun naked right now? Her gaze involuntarily swept over the body covered by the blanket before she indifferently looked away.
“I’ll probably just sweat more later anyway, it… it doesn’t matter…” Her face was red enough to drip blood, and she pulled the blanket higher and higher until her face was almost covered. Cheng Lingxue couldn’t bear to watch and reached out to pull the blanket down:
“Don’t do that. Are you trying to suffocate yourself?” Staring into Xie Shuyun’s innocent eyes, Cheng Lingxue sighed and used a tissue to wipe her forehead. “You just wiped down and you’re sweating again.”
“…Sorry…” Xie Shuyun lowered her head and murmured. She looked like a pitiful big dog that had done something wrong, her “ears” and “tail” drooping. Her innocent eyes made it impossible to stay angry.
Cheng Lingxue was about to speak when her phone rang, startlingly loud in the quiet room.
After checking her own phone and confirming it wasn’t the source, Xie Shuyun looked at Cheng Lingxue. She saw the girl walk back to the chair, pick up her phone, and frown at what she saw. Whether it was her imagination or not, Xie Shuyun felt Cheng Lingxue gave her a wary glance before finally answering the call:
“…Hello…”
“Miss… you… come… the Second Master, he brought people… I… beep-beep-beep…”
The other end sounded very noisy. Xie Shuyun only heard fragmented words, but a few stood out. “Miss”… calling Cheng Lingxue “Miss”? Was it someone from the former Cheng family?
She was confused but suddenly shivered as the air grew cold. The source of the cold was Cheng Lingxue, who was staring at the disconnected screen.
Cheng Lingxue’s face was terrifyingly dark. Her teeth were clenched on her lip, and her eyes were trembling with rage. Her fingertips gripping the phone were white, and her breathing was erratic.
This was the first time Xie Shuyun had seen her emotions so exposed. The cold air wafting from her felt like it could turn a person into an icicle, and it seemed to carry a murderous intent. Xie Shuyun gasped and instinctively wrapped her blanket tighter, backing away from the now-frightening girl.
In the next second, the cold girl turned and strode toward the door. Seeing this, Xie Shuyun didn’t care about anything else. She grabbed the blanket with one hand and used the other to prop herself up on the nightstand, asking in a panic:
“Wait! It’s so late, are you going out?”
Cheng Lingxue’s hand paused on the doorknob. She didn’t turn around, but her gaze swept back. Even through her hair, Xie Shuyun could feel its sharpness:
“…I’m borrowing the driver.” With that, Cheng Lingxue opened the door and closed it quickly, cutting off the call from behind her.
Coming out, Cheng Lingxue bumped into Qin Yu, who was coming up with some items. Looking at the girl who had been caring for the Eldest Miss, Qin Yu’s favor toward her was higher than ever. A warm smile appeared on her face:
“Miss Cheng? Are you going back to your room to rest? Thank you for taking care of the Eldest Miss. I’ll take over now.”
“Then I’ll trouble you, Butler Qin. I have something I need to go out for.”
“Eh? What—”
Before Qin Yu could ask, Cheng Lingxue rushed into her own room, threw on a jacket, and hurried downstairs. Qin Yu was left dazed and confused. Then she heard a crashing sound from Xie Shuyun’s room. Her expression changed, and she pushed the door open:
“Eldest Miss! What happened?”
She saw Xie Shuyun clutching her knees and grimacing, tears in her eyes—a face that spoke volumes:
“Ahem, Qin Yu, you’re just in time. Where’s Lingxue?”
“She rushed out.”
Hearing this, Xie Shuyun wanted to demand why she hadn’t stopped her, but seeing the items Qin Yu had brought for her, she forced herself to swallow those words. She pulled the blanket around her and stood up unsteadily:
“I need to go out too.”
“You must be joking, Eldest Miss. How can you go out in your condition?” Qin Yu’s face changed, and she stepped forward to grab Xie Shuyun’s shoulder to stop her. In the next second, her wrist was caught.
Meeting the flicker of ferocity in Xie Shuyun’s eyes, Qin Yu was stunned again. Since the change, how long had it been since the Eldest Miss showed such an expression? The slight pain in her wrist made her realize that Xie Shuyun’s words brook no argument.
“Have someone ready a car… huff… and bring whatever bodyguards the Xie family can spare… go… go…” Because of her stuffed nose and agitation, Xie Shuyun spoke in fragments, panting with difficulty. Her feverish brain was chaotic, but from the fragments of Cheng Lingxue’s call, she quickly arrived at an answer:
“To Lingxue’s home… the old Cheng estate. Go now.” The last words were spoken with a rasping decisiveness that made Qin Yu bow her head:
“I understand. I’ll notify everyone immediately. In twenty minutes—no, ten minutes—everyone will be assembled. Eldest Miss, please put some clothes on first so you don’t catch another cold.”
After handing Xie Shuyun her outdoor clothes, Qin Yu nodded and hurried out. Xie Shuyun was left sitting on the bed, letting out a long sigh as she looked out at the pitch-black, moonless night.
Cheng Lingxue, you better be okay…
Ten minutes later, a large motorcade drove out from the Xie estate. A line of dark sedans moved through the streets. Although it was late and they chose less-populated roads, they still alerted many people.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Qin Yu’s phone rang incessantly. As soon as she hung up, another call came in. She looked in the rearview mirror at the girl staring vacantly out the window. Her face still held an abnormal, sickly flush. Fearing she would disturb her, Qin Yu pressed a button, and a partition rose, dividing the car into two spaces.
Tapping her throbbing temples, Xie Shuyun tried to recall the plot. Her tongue kept licking her canines; she felt a constant itch there, like an electric current attacking her nerves and disrupting her thoughts—it was incredibly annoying.
Searching her memory for a long time, she finally dug out the “Second Uncle” Cheng Lingxue had mentioned.
The book described very little, only that the Second Uncle’s family were not good people. They had a poor relationship with Cheng Lingxue’s parents and certainly wouldn’t treat her well after the accident. It could be said they were one of the reasons Cheng Lingxue became the Xie family’s adopted daughter.
There seemed to be other details, but the role was too minor. No matter how she tried, Xie Shuyun couldn’t remember. The itch in her canines intensified, making her exceptionally irritable. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths to calm herself.
Elsewhere, the black sedan sped into a courtyard. This was a villa built with English architecture as its base—the home of the former head of the Cheng family, where Cheng Lingxue’s family had lived.
The exterior was similar to the Xie estate, with a fountain and garden. Even though it hadn’t been lived in for a long time, it was clean and orderly, showing it was being managed.
However, many uninvited guests had broken into this quiet villa. The doors were wide open, and the interior was brightly lit. Outside, several fierce-looking men were standing or sitting around, smoking. Cheng Lingxue only needed a glance to know these were the “bodyguards” her Second Uncle had hired. She let out a cold laugh. Like master, like dog.
Looking down at the grass and the cigarette butts, betel nut residue, and wine bottles scattered everywhere, the fire in Cheng Lingxue’s eyes grew hotter. She opened the car door and stepped out.
The arrival of a car naturally drew the bodyguards’ attention. Seeing such a beautiful girl get out, whistles echoed through the air. The driver immediately got out and stood by Cheng Lingxue’s side to provide support.
The Xie family driver was also a former bodyguard. In a suit and sunglasses, his muscular build and expressionless face were quite intimidating, causing the approaching men to look wary. However, remembering their employer’s status, they regained their confidence. A man who looked like the leader stood forward and asked in a deep voice:
“Who are you? Don’t you know this is private property?”
Hearing this from his mouth almost made Cheng Lingxue laugh out loud. She swept her gaze over the villa and spoke coldly:
“This is indeed private property, and I am the owner of this land. You are the trespassers.”
The bodyguards looked at each other in surprise; it seemed they didn’t know much. But that didn’t stop Cheng Lingxue from what she had to do. She turned to the driver:
“Mr. Driver, I’m sorry to trouble you, but please take photos for evidence. We’ll need them when the law catches up to them.”
The driver immediately pulled out his phone. Before the bodyguards could move to subdue them, he started recording, took off his sunglasses to reveal a sharp gaze, and cracked his knuckles:
“Don’t try anything, or I won’t hold back.”
Seeing they didn’t dare move, a flash of disappointment appeared in the driver’s eyes. He escorted Cheng Lingxue to the villa entrance, but she insisted on going in alone. The driver could only guard the door for her while monitoring the bodyguards outside.
Entering the living room, Cheng Lingxue’s pupils shrank. There were more bodyguards here, guarding three elderly female Betas. One of them had a very visible slap mark on her face. A smashed and trampled phone lay on the floor.
“Lord Bei, what do you think of this house? It was designed by a famous architect. How about a flat price of 50 million?” A voice drifted over, drawing Cheng Lingxue’s gaze.
On the sofa was a middle-aged fat man who looked like a parvenu, covered in gold jewelry and a thick gold necklace. He was looking over the house with a critical eye.
Beside him was the man who had spoken. He looked somewhat refined and bore a 30% resemblance to Cheng Lingxue, but his once-handsome features were twisted by a fawning smile, giving him a sleazy, rat-like appearance.
Not far behind him was a girl in heavy makeup. Although she had come with the man, her eyes kept scanning the decorations with jealousy and satisfaction.
“Who allowed you in here?” Cheng Lingxue’s cold shout made everyone look over.
“Who’s this?” The fat man looked at Cheng Lingxue’s elegant face, a hint of lust in his eyes as he asked with interest.
“Ah, Lord Bei, this is my niece. I don’t know how she got here,” the man said, quickly walking to Cheng Lingxue. The fawning smile vanished, replaced by a superior attitude: “Cheng Lingxue, I know you came because of the call. But this is just as well. Lord Bei likes this house; you sign the papers now.”
Cheng Lingxue was almost laughing with rage at the man’s shameless and entitled tone. She asked one word at a time:
“On what grounds?”
“…You…”
“The owner of this house is me. Cheng Wenchi, what right do you have to sell it?” Cheng Lingxue frowned and pushed the man aside unceremoniously, standing before Lord Bei.
“Don’t question me. This is your family matter. But you’re still a minor, you should obediently listen to your Second Uncle,” Lord Bei said. He glanced at Cheng Wenchi, who had been cowed by his niece’s single shout, a flash of disgust in his eyes.
Cheng Wenchi had been embarrassed, but those last few words gave him confidence. He stepped toward Cheng Lingxue again and scolded:
“I am your Second Uncle! How can you call me by name? It seems your upbringing has been forgotten. What would your dead parents think of you?”
This struck Cheng Lingxue’s minefield. Her eyes turned bloodshot, and her knuckles cracked as she clenched her fists. The ferocity in her look made Cheng Wenchi instinctively take a step back, but he kept his head high and said:
“Even with that attitude, I am still your Second Uncle. Since you are a minor, I have the right to manage your assets as your proxy.”
“Are you my legal guardian?”
“Do you have a certificate from my parents entrusting my assets to you?”
“I have already presented. Even if I’m not of age, it’s not hard to inherit part of the estate early. You… on what grounds?”
She fired off each question while closing in on Cheng Wenchi. The last three words echoed through the villa.
“…You… I…”
“I am currently the adopted daughter of the Xie family. My legal guardian is the head of the Xie family, Xie Yun. Are you trying to overstep your bounds? Who gave you the courage?”
Before Cheng Wenchi could react to her words, Lord Bei frowned and stood up. He realized that for a single house, it wasn’t worth offending one of the most powerful clans in the country.
With that thought, Lord Bei stood up and adjusted his gold chain: “It seems you’ll need some time to talk. I won’t disturb you further.”
“Wait… Lord Bei… I…” Cheng Wenchi tried to protest, but a single look from Lord Bei stopped him in his tracks. He could only watch as Lord Bei walked out and drove away. He immediately spun around and pointed at Cheng Lingxue, shouting:
“Cheng Lingxue! Look what you’ve done!”
“I have indeed done something good: protecting my rights and defending my property.”
“You… you…” Flushed with rage, Cheng Wenchi punched the sofa. Cheng Lingxue added indifferently:
“I will have a lawyer appeal this. You trespassed on private property, damaged the villa’s facilities and garden, littered, and… assaulted ordinary citizens.”
Her gaze landed on the female Betas. They were some of the few veterans of the Cheng family who were willing to stay. She had hired them to manage and clean the villa, and she would not tolerate them being treated this way.
“You want to sue me? I am your Second Uncle!” Cheng Wenchi pointed at himself in disbelief. He remembered his niece wasn’t favored in the Xie household. The last time he saw her, she was being bullied by the Xie family’s Eldest Miss. How… after just a few months, had she become so sharp? His gaze wavered; it felt as if his excellent sister, who had always outshone him, was standing before him again, making him feel stifled.
In his moment of distraction, his daughter exploded first. In a sharp, unpleasant voice, she pointed at Cheng Lingxue and screamed:
“Cheng Lingxue! My dad is your elder, is this the attitude you should have?”
“And shouldn’t you address me as ‘Cousin’?” Cheng Lingxue sneered. They didn’t even look at their own actions yet expected others to treat them with respect. They didn’t have the right.
“You… you…!” The girl looked at Cheng Lingxue’s unshakable face, the jealousy and malice in her eyes almost undisguised. Without thinking, she swung her handbag with all her might toward Cheng Lingxue’s face.
Cheng Lingxue hadn’t expected her to attack, but the clumsy blow was no threat. She frowned and easily dodged the bag’s range, but then—
Crack—
Something was knocked off and hit the nearby wall. Due to the force of the hit, the object shattered on impact.
Broken glass fell to the floor, and inside was a piece of paper.
The paper drifted in the light breeze, eventually falling into a nearby fish tank. But everyone had clearly seen what was in the photo.
It showed two young, beautiful people embracing. The woman was holding a sweet, cute girl who had a golden puppy on her lap. The whole family was smiling happily at the camera—it was a family portrait.
