After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 24.2
As she spoke, Xie Shuyun recalled the “passionate” Omega she met right outside the restroom.
Others only released a tiny bit or a wisp of pheromones, but he had unreservedly enshrouded her in his scent, nearly giving her goosebumps.
She only found out later that the Omega had accidentally entered his heat. Fortunately, he was discovered early and the teacher arrived quickly, preventing a major disaster.
After venting this to Cheng Lingxue, Xie Shuyun felt the temperature in the gazebo drop significantly, as if it had become cooler. She then saw Cheng Lingxue glance at her with a look of slight disdain and ask slowly:
“Did the pheromones smell good?”
Not realizing Cheng Lingxue’s tone was a bit strange, Xie Shuyun blurted out:
“Don’t even mention it. It was like lavender… but too strong. I felt like my nose was going to fall off. It was like someone had dumped a whole bottle of lavender laundry detergent on themselves…” Halfway through, Xie Shuyun shivered and shook her chopsticks, indicating she never wanted to experience it again. She added:
“But honestly, those Omegas’ scents don’t compare to yours—cough, cough, cough!” Xie Shuyun immediately shut her mouth, stuffing several pieces of food in to chew and swallow the words she had nearly blurted out.
She didn’t dare look up again. What was I about to say? It was as if she had walked through a garden of flowers and then compared them all to Cheng Lingxue, realizing that the other was the best… The Scum Alpha vibes are strong!
This thought made Xie Shuyun’s face turn sour. I really didn’t mean it that way!
After a few minutes of silence, Xie Shuyun couldn’t help but steal a peek at Cheng Lingxue. Uh… why does her mood seem to have improved? She couldn’t understand Cheng Lingxue’s thoughts, but an improved mood meant she had dodged a bullet.
Finally finishing all the food, she patted her stomach comfortably. Xie Shuyun pulled out a tissue to wipe her hands, then took out a fresh one to wipe Cheng Lingxue’s mouth and hands. She then cleared the table, tossing all the trash into a nearby bin before returning to the gazebo.
A gentle breeze blew. The garden was already cool due to the trees, but the breeze made it even more pleasant. Xie Shuyun felt completely lazy. She leaned against the back of the chair and let out a yawn.
Resting her chin on her hand, she watched Cheng Lingxue quietly flipping through a book. The girl really loved reading; she almost always carried a book with her.
The sunlight filtered through the leaves, turning into scattered fragments of light. Only a little bit fell on them in the gazebo, providing a touch of warmth without feeling hot.
The cold girl kept her head lowered, her slender fingertips lightly pinching the corner of a page. Something she read seemed to make the sense of distance at the corner of her eyes fade, making her look a bit softer.
Her dark, long hair swayed gently in the breeze. Under the scattered sunlight, it looked even more black and lustrous.
A few stray strands of hair were playful, riding the wind to graze or catch on the girl’s lips. It was as if they were trying to catch her attention or intentionally disrupt her reading.
The girl lightly raised her hand and used her fingertips to lift the stray hair and tuck it behind her ear, making it behave. This revealed her snowy white, slightly pinkish ear, which caught the sunlight and became even more bright and cute.
Suddenly, the girl lifted her eyes. Under the sunlight, the dark pupils lost their innate coldness and instead held a sunny warmth, making Xie Shuyun’s eyes daze.
“What are you looking at…?”
Cheng Lingxue’s question made Xie Shuyun startle. She instinctively touched the corner of her mouth to see if she had been drooling while staring. Fortunately, she hadn’t been that embarrassing. She lowered her head and said bashfully:
“Nothing, I was just spacing out, ha ha ha…” The laugh was obviously dry and full of guilt.
“…Is that so…” the girl’s cold voice said softly. The words were ethereal and devoid of emotion, leaving Xie Shuyun unsure of her mood. She could only rub her face to soothe her guilt.
Suddenly, she realized she had forgotten something. She felt around her face for a moment, then looked down at the muzzle hanging at her chest. She hurriedly pulled the strap to the back of her head and put the muzzle back on, whispering:
“Lingxue, next time if I forget to wear my muzzle, you have to remind me. Otherwise, it’s too dangerous for you.”
“It will cover…” Cheng Lingxue seemed to say something. Xie Shuyun didn’t hear clearly and instinctively leaned in closer:
“What did you just say?”
The girl glanced at her, her fingertips slowly turning a page. Her pink, thin lips parted:
“It will cover your face. Your silly face.”
Xie Shuyun’s eyes widened slightly. The first part was normal, but how was the second part so unpleasant to hear? Was she silly? Given her top-tier academic standing, she should be considered very smart.
Mumbling internally, Xie Shuyun didn’t dare say it out loud. She just pursed her lips, checked the time, and saw there was still half an hour before class. She turned around and lay on her side on the bench. Her tall frame took up half of the circular gazebo bench. She let out a yawn and said to Cheng Lingxue:
“I want to rest for a bit. Why don’t you let your eyes rest too? We have a lot of classes this afternoon; it’s good to recharge. Don’t worry, I’ll keep time.” She shook her phone, which had an alarm set, and closed her eyes. Her flickering eyelashes stopped moving as time passed, and her breathing gradually became steady.
Waiting until the spirited girl’s breathing became long and slow, the cold girl beside her quietly closed her book. Her deep gaze slowly fell upon the sleeping girl.
A breeze blew over the girl, making her hair and clothes sway. The stray hair at her forehead drifted left and right, eventually landing on the tip of her nose. The girl seemed to feel the itch; her brows furrowed slightly, and a tiny protest sound came from her throat.
Before the girl could raise her hand, two slender fingers had already lightly pinched that lock of hair. Cheng Lingxue looked at the hair in her hand. A flash of hesitation crossed her eyes. Ultimately, she didn’t do anything else but discreetly tucked the hair behind the girl’s ear.
Without the uncomfortable irritation, the girl’s features gradually relaxed, and her breathing returned to steady.
Cheng Lingxue looked around to confirm no one was there, then slowly moved her face closer to Xie Shuyun’s. They were so close she could practically feel their breaths. If it weren’t for the muzzle, she could have gotten even closer.
Her deep pupils meticulously took in everything before her. She observed every corner of the girl’s eyes, nose, and mouth—even a tiny mole on her collarbone did not escape her gaze.
“There are no changes in her body.” This was the conclusion Cheng Lingxue finally reached. Although it was shameful, there was no doubt she was intimately familiar with every part of Xie Shuyun’s body.
And the pheromones… she didn’t even need to try to smell them. Even with the suppressant, the Xie Shuyun in her rut carried the sweet scent of rum. Although it was indeed different from before, it was still the scent of rum.
However, after a person presents, their pheromones are basically fixed after the next rut. The difference in Xie Shuyun’s scent was quite significant, but only Cheng Lingxue was aware of it. Because this period happened shortly after Xie Shuyun presented and her pheromones were still unstable, probably no one else noticed.
Cheng Lingxue’s fingertips tapped silently on the table as her memory drifted back to that previous rut.
Her memories of that part were fragmented, but in the beginning, the pheromones Xie Shuyun released were indeed the murky, low-quality kind from her memory. Then, when her consciousness was blurred, the scent seemed to change, becoming the sweet fruit wine it was now. And then Xie Shuyun… also changed.
Her thoughts came to a halt. Cheng Lingxue’s gaze moved to the buckle on Xie Shuyun’s neck. So the reason this person is different is because of the different pheromones, which in turn produced a different personality. Could it be a second personality?
She didn’t recall Xie Shuyun having a dissociative identity disorder, and there were no signs of it. But besides this explanation, Cheng Lingxue couldn’t think of any other.
But… if it really was a second personality… did that mean the primary personality could wake up at any time?
The thought of such a possibility made her breath hitch. She felt a sudden pang in her heart. She pressed her fingertips hard into her palm. Looking at the person sleeping peacefully, her lips pressed together.
She raised her hand, wanting to touch the girl’s face, but was blocked by the muzzle and couldn’t continue. The muzzle seemed to transform into the ugly face of the unchanged Xie Shuyun, laughing wildly at her as if reminding Cheng Lingxue of her existence. The person here now could be covered, hidden, or even… never appear again at any moment…
“…Mhm…” Xie Shuyun furrowed her brows. she felt like something was pulling at the thing on her face. Drowsy and in a haze, it took her a while to remember she was wearing a muzzle… A muzzle! It couldn’t be some blind Omega, could it?
Thinking this, Xie Shuyun was startled awake. She snapped her eyes open and found herself staring into the beautiful face above her.
The girl seemed to be looking down at her. Her hair hung down from both sides, some of it spilling onto the muzzle and falling through the gaps onto Xie Shuyun’s cheek, causing a slight itch. But more noticeable was the fragrance from the hair, which scurried into her nostrils. If Cheng Lingxue hadn’t been watching, Xie Shuyun would have wanted to greedily inhale it. Ah… I’m having perverted thoughts again…
She quickly pushed the chagrined thoughts aside because she was stunned by what she saw in Cheng Lingxue’s eyes.
The usually dark and cold pupils were like the surface of a lake rippled by a stone. However, the light within was also shattered by the stone, revealing a hint of vulnerability and even a trace of moisture. Xie Shuyun actually saw… fear and helplessness. She hadn’t even seen Cheng Lingxue show such emotions when facing those bizarre relatives the other day. What happened?
Looking down, she felt the pressure on the muzzle. It was Cheng Lingxue’s fingertip, lightly hooking a horizontal bar on the muzzle. She could easily see the neatly trimmed, rounded nails, which were slightly white from the force. It seemed she was the culprit who had disturbed her sleep.
Of course, Xie Shuyun didn’t care about being woken up. What she focused on was why Cheng Lingxue would reveal such an expression. It made her feel heavy, and even her voice became dry and raspy:
“…Lingxue? What’s wrong?”
As if she hadn’t expected Xie Shuyun to be woken by her, the cold girl closed her eyes briefly. When she opened them again, the emotions that had tugged at Xie Shuyun’s heartstrings had vanished without a trace. She was back to the calm and self-possessed Cheng Lingxue.
“Sorry, I woke you up. A gust of wind just blew by with many leaves; I thought some had fallen on you,” Cheng Lingxue said softly, slowly pulling back to give Xie Shuyun space to sit up.
Hearing Cheng Lingxue use such a clumsy excuse for the first time, Xie Shuyun was momentarily speechless, not knowing how to respond.
The atmosphere between them was somewhat frozen. Cheng Lingxue’s finger-pad lightly stroked her book, her eyes lowered, thinking about who-knows-what. Xie Shuyun looked around, scratched the back of her head, and after a moment of deliberation, asked:
“Were you… in a bad mood just now?”
“…No…”
“Then just now…”
“It’s nothing.”
The two words ended the conversation, very much in Cheng Lingxue’s style. But it also caused the opening line Xie Shuyun had struggled to come up with to shrink back. Looking at Cheng Lingxue’s tranquil face, she finally sighed, realizing that no matter what she asked, the other probably wouldn’t say.
Finally, she distilled a thousand words into one sentence. Xie Shuyun wanted to rub her nose, but hitting the muzzle, she had to change to lightly rubbing her hair. She said softly to Cheng Lingxue:
“In any case, if someone bullies you, tell me. Maybe there are many things you don’t want to tell me, but if you need help, I’m very happy to help you.” As she spoke, the chagrin from before was gone, replaced by a brilliant smile.
Staring at that smile that rivaled the sun, enhanced by the mottled spots of light, it appeared even warmer. The soft and sincere emotion flickering in her eyes caused Cheng Lingxue’s pressed lips to tighten. Her fingertips pinching her skirt gradually applied force, causing the smooth fabric to wrinkle.
Ring, ring, ring… The phone alarm broke the quiet atmosphere. Xie Shuyun hurriedly reached out to turn it off.
“Sorry, sorry, I forgot the alarm. But are you really not going to rest? Even if you nap now, there’s still a little time.”
“No need, I’m not tired.” Shaking her head, Cheng Lingxue rejected Xie Shuyun’s suggestion. She raised her hand to catch a lock of hair hanging at her chest, lightly curling and rubbing it between her fingers. Finally, she spoke:
“I’m a bit thirsty.”
“Oh, I see!” Hearing this, Xie Shuyun immediately jumped up and patted her wrinkled uniform while asking:
“What do you want to drink? Bottled water? A drink? Coke? Milk tea?”
“Milk tea.”
“I got it! I’ll go buy it for you. You head back to the classroom; by the time I finish buying it, the bell will probably have rung, and you won’t make it in time.” With that, Xie Shuyun turned and was about to run off.
Suddenly, Cheng Lingxue reached out and grabbed the corner of her clothes. Fortunately, Xie Shuyun was always watching the other’s movements out of the corner of her eye and noticed early. Otherwise, she would have bolted. She quickly stopped, turned around, and asked:
“Is there anything else I should buy?”
“You won’t…”
Cheng Lingxue’s mouth opened and closed. Xie Shuyun only heard the first few words clearly. Because at the moment the other spoke, a sudden gale blew by. She instinctively squinted and used her hand to block the leaves and dust being kicked up. Her face felt a slight sting—it was the sensation of Cheng Lingxue’s hair being blown forward and hitting her. She didn’t dare wave her hands wildly, fearing she would pull the other’s hair.
The gale came fast and went just as quickly. Xie Shuyun patted the leaves and dust off her clothes and looked at Cheng Lingxue. She couldn’t help but click her tongue. Compared to her own disheveled state, the other was pristine. It felt as if the wind had targeted her specifically. Strange!
“Ah, what did you just say? Sorry, I didn’t hear clearly.” With her limited vision, Xie Shuyun had only been able to see Cheng Lingxue’s mouth move while the howling wind filled her ears. She could only ask helplessly.
But Cheng Lingxue shook her head and said softly: “…Nothing…” Her attitude made it clear she didn’t intend to say it again, leaving Xie Shuyun baffled. But seeing Cheng Lingxue’s calm demeanor, she figured it wasn’t anything important…?
“Then I’ll head out first. Tell me if there’s anything else later.”
Standing in the gazebo, Cheng Lingxue watched Xie Shuyun’s sprinting back, her agile and flexible form, and her swaying ponytail reflecting the girl’s youthful energy.
Cheng Lingxue slowly raised her hand toward the girl’s back, gently closing it as if holding that running figure in her palm. A silent question left her mouth:
You won’t disappear, right?
She didn’t lower her hand until the figure vanished. She looked down at the dust and leaves that the gale had blown onto Xie Shuyun. She bent down and gently picked up one of the leaves, holding it up to the sunlight.
It had a green color and veins different from other leaves; there was a strange golden shimmer flowing within it. After a few seconds, the leaf crumbled in Cheng Lingxue’s hand and finally vanished completely.
Looking down again, the dust and leaves on the ground had also disappeared, leaving no trace. It was as if the gale just now was an illusion. This bizarre situation didn’t frighten Cheng Lingxue. Instead, a mocking sneer appeared on her face. Her lowered gaze reflected an even darker pupil color. She stepped out of the gazebo, planting her foot on the spot where the leaf and dust had vanished, and ground it down.
Are you finally losing your patience?
