After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, My Omega Underwent a Second Differentiation - Chapter 19
To ensure privacy, there were no windows in the hallway on the top floor. Once the fire door was shut tightly, only a little light leaked from the elevator area, making the corridor seem even darker.
The instant the elevator opened, Sheng Yinglan felt as though she had been fixed in place, unable to move.
Clearly, the warm light inside the elevator was shining on her body, yet she felt her whole body begin to turn cold uncontrollably. It was a chill surging from the bottom of her heart, impossible to restrain, nearly drowning her.
Suddenly, a patch of light appeared before her eyes.
She saw Yun Rong’s mouth seem to move, as though she had said something. But Sheng Yinglan felt as if her whole person had been cut off from the real space around her. She could not hear Yun Rong’s voice. She could only barely make out the shape of her lips.
The next second, something warm covered her icy fingers. Soft yet forceful, it squeezed into the gaps between her fingers and rubbed against her slightly stiff knuckles.
Only when all of Sheng Yinglan’s fingers had been rubbed warm did she finally realize that this was an extremely intimate gesture of interlaced fingers.
The cold that had drowned her finally slowly receded. Her senses, which had been cut off, gradually returned.
Although the flashlight’s beam did not cover a large area, it was very bright. Only then did Sheng Yinglan realize that Yun Rong had led her to the door at some point.
The light shone on the password lock. Yun Rong was looking at her anxiously, probably because she had called her several times just now and Sheng Yinglan had not come back to her senses.
Sheng Yinglan wanted to explain, but she did not know where to start. In the end, she simply unlocked the door and immediately turned on the lights in the living room.
The elevator had already closed again, and the corridor had returned to darkness. A long while later, the sound of someone going downstairs came from behind the fire door.
The inside of the apartment was as bright as day. Yun Rong had also been directly dragged into the apartment by Sheng Yinglan’s movements and now stood at the entrance, staring at her.
Well now.
Just now, she had spent so long wondering whether she should invite Yun Rong inside for a cup of tea. In such a short while, she had skipped the question entirely and dragged her in instead.
The warm touch in her hand made Sheng Yinglan realize that the two of them were still holding hands with their fingers interlaced.
She somewhat unnaturally tried to let go, only to discover that Yun Rong’s fingers were like wildly tangled plant roots, firmly locking around her own fingers and tightly covering every inch of skin, unwilling to leave so easily.
“Um… What would you like to drink? It’s late, so tea and coffee aren’t good for your stomach. Is plain water okay?”
Sheng Yinglan tried and found that she could not shake off Yun Rong’s hand. So she simply asked this question directly, wanting to use it to remind Yun Rong that she could let go now.
This episode had not been severe. Fortunately, the space was large, and Yun Rong was by her side. By the time the lights in the apartment turned on, Sheng Yinglan had completely recovered.
Seeing that she had no intention of explaining what had happened just now, Yun Rong did not continue asking. She merely nodded at her and released the hand she had been holding.
“Then sit on the sofa for a while. I’ll go pour it for you.”
When Sheng Yinglan turned around and walked toward the kitchen with her back to Yun Rong, she could not help letting out a breath of relief inwardly.
She thought the incident just now had lasted only a short time, and that Yun Rong had not noticed anything wrong with her at all. She completely failed to notice why Yun Rong had detected something was off the very first instant the elevator doors opened.
Yun Rong naturally also knew that in such an urgent situation just now, Sheng Yinglan would not have thought about whether her own behavior was inappropriate.
So after Sheng Yinglan disappeared from her line of sight, Yun Rong openly examined her living room.
The sofa, coffee table, and dining table in the living room all had an extravagant style that seemed to have walked out of a mid-eighteenth-century mural, wrapped in golden Gothic flair.
One dining chair in particular looked as if it had been modeled after the throne of some country’s king. A crown was even carved into the highest protruding point at the center of the chair back. It was extremely exaggerated.
On the TV wall facing the sofa, a massive fifty-inch screen occupied almost half the wall. On the low cabinet beneath it were many modern tech items, VR headsets, and games.
After looking at it for a while, one would feel a strong sense of dissonance.
Although this renovation style seemed like a chaotic mixture of many things, it was obvious that the owner of the apartment greatly liked luxurious and eye-catching objects.
But judging from Yun Rong’s interactions with Sheng Yinglan these past two days, the other woman did not seem like this kind of person.
The person who lived here seemed more like the Sheng Yinglan Yun Rong had known from the news, not the one currently staying by her side.
When Sheng Yinglan came out of the kitchen carrying two cups of water, Yun Rong had already hidden the doubts in her heart and was sitting steadily on the sofa, her gaze fixed on a crystal ashtray shaped like a skull on the coffee table.
After handing the cup of water to her and following Yun Rong’s gaze, Sheng Yinglan awkwardly explained,
“This apartment is rented. The renovation was handled by someone else at the time. I didn’t really participate.”
Although that was not the truth, Sheng Yinglan still tried to smooth it over.
After all, the original owner’s taste was a little too peculiar, and she did not want Yun Rong to think she was a strange person.
Yun Rong nodded, indicating that she understood, and did not comment on it. However, her gaze no longer drifted toward any messy decorations.
The two continued chatting about the little matters regarding the MV shoot that they had not finished discussing in the car earlier.
Sheng Yinglan had been severely exhausted both physically and mentally for the entire day. Now that she was leaning back in the safe space of her own home, with the faint woody fragrance from Yun Rong’s body still lingering at the tip of her nose, her nerves suddenly relaxed, and her eyelids began to grow heavy.
When Yun Rong asked another question and waited for her answer, only to hear no response for a long while, she turned her head and saw that Sheng Yinglan had already fallen asleep on the sofa. Even her breathing had grown long and steady.
After all, she had only been discharged from the hospital yesterday. Her body had been weakened by glandular disability disorder. Today, she had been frightened by Yun Rong and injured as well. No wonder she was tired enough to fall asleep now.
Even on the sofa in her own home, she slept curled up. Half of her face was hidden in the sofa’s shadow, revealing only one side of her long, slender neck. The blue veins beneath her thin eyelids were very obvious, and her curled lashes lay distinctly against her lids, like sleeping butterflies.
Yun Rong admired Sheng Yinglan’s sleeping face without restraint for a while.
After confirming that the other woman had completely entered deep sleep, she carried her to the bed in the bedroom, turned on the bedside lamp for her, and, as if unable to help herself, gently placed a goodnight kiss between her brows before leaving the apartment.
For the next few days, Sheng Yinglan stayed at home.
Aside from Yun Rong sending a message to ask about the exact date of filming, the two had no further communication.
Instead, Xiao Yuanxi from downstairs used the excuse that they would soon be working together and came to bother Sheng Yinglan every day.
After spending a few days together, Sheng Yinglan felt that aside from being a little noisy, Xiao Yuanxi was essentially a decent person. The two gradually became familiar with each other. Even on the day of the shoot, Sheng Yinglan hitched a ride in Xiao Yuanxi’s car to the film base.
It was still the same film base as last time. However, the filming location was not the soundstage where the audition had taken place, but a real set rented inside the film base.
After all, the MV Sheng Yinglan was filming was for Xiao Yuanxi’s title track this time. Not only was it the first song Xiao Yuanxi had composed and written lyrics for herself, even the musical style was very different from before.
Because her own temperament did not quite match the song, this was also the first time she would not appear in the MV for her own title track.
Whether for the fans or for Xiao Yuanxi herself, this MV was extremely important. Naturally, the investment was also relatively large.
From the first day Teacher Yun had brought Sheng Yinglan into the industry, she had taught her that there were no small roles, only small actors.
Although it was only an MV, Sheng Yinglan still prepared with an extremely serious attitude.
To save expenses and necessary labor costs, the filming of the album songs’ MVs had all been scheduled for these few days. The staff of groups A and B were also working nonstop in shifts.
Sheng Yinglan did not feel anything particularly special. After all, she was only appearing in the title track’s MV.
Xiao Yuanxi, however, had it hard. The staff could at least take shifts, but she had to keep going the entire time.
Because Sheng Yinglan did not have an agency, much less an assistant, Xiao Yuanxi made things easier for her by letting her use the same standby room as herself, so she did not have to squeeze into the public standby room with everyone else.
This did provide Sheng Yinglan with a lot of convenience. At the very least, when the set was being changed and the lights arranged, she could rest for a while.
To ensure quality, the female general’s armor in the MV had been borrowed by Director Wang from an ancient costume drama crew. It was said that the crew had specially custom-made it for filming war scenes. The armor alone weighed over thirty jin.
Just to put on this outfit, Sheng Yinglan had needed three costume staff to help her in the costume room that morning.
But it had to be said that high quality really was different.
Once all her makeup was done and the red cloak was draped over her shoulders, she looked exactly like a female general who had walked out of a story. Everyone present was stunned.
Even the experienced and knowledgeable Director Wang circled Sheng Yinglan several times, clicking his tongue in amazement and praising her without stinginess.
“With your looks and aura, you’ll become hugely popular sooner or later.”
Sheng Yinglan, who had won countless awards before, could only respond with a helpless smile,
“I’ll borrow your auspicious words, Director Wang.”
Director Wang had originally thought that even if Sheng Yinglan’s acting skills were good, she probably did not have much filming experience. So the scenes arranged for the first day were not very tight.
But once filming began, he discovered that Sheng Yinglan’s experience was more than just rich. Almost everything she filmed passed in one take. Whatever requests he made, she could quickly understand and complete excellently.
As a result, when filming neared the end of the first day, Director Wang discovered that they had already finished the amount of work originally scheduled for a day and a half.
So he very happily sent Sheng Yinglan to remove her makeup and change clothes, after which she could get off work and go home.
Because the costume staff still had to keep an eye on the costumes for other groups, Sheng Yinglan could only stay in the standby room first and wait until the costume room was empty before going to take off the armor.
After several days without work, she had suddenly been busy nonstop for an entire day today. She leaned tiredly against the chair, letting her mind go blank, while wondering whether she should send Yun Rong a message saying that today’s work had gone very smoothly.
Suddenly, the standby room door was pushed open a crack.
“Teacher Sheng, the costume room on the east side will still be busy for a while. The costume teacher said you should go to the costume room on the west side first to take off the armor.”
The person’s voice was deliberately lowered a little. They wore a hat and seemed to have many things to handle. They only stood by the door and called out to her before hurriedly leaving.
When Sheng Yinglan turned her head in response, she only saw a hat with the letter M on it.
She was rather tired now and did not notice much. Besides, she had heard that morning that, for convenience since they were filming nearby, they had set up two temporary costume rooms in total.
So she did not become suspicious. She placed her phone on the table, stood up, and left the standby room.
The costume room on the west side was relatively hidden. The farther Sheng Yinglan walked, the fewer people there were.
After finally dragging the heavy costume to the door with the sign pasted on it, she first politely knocked twice before turning the doorknob.
A moldy smell rushed toward her face.
It was as though the windows had not been opened for ventilation in a very long time. The room was also very dark, with no lights on.
She felt it was somewhat strange and was just about to speak and ask a question when she suddenly sensed someone behind her shove her hard.
She was wearing armor, so it was already difficult to keep her balance. With one stagger, she was pushed into the room.
The door locked shut with a bang, taking away the last bit of light.
