However, they still chatted before bed—partly for the audience and partly to summarize their day.

“There’s half a bag left,” Yin Xiaowei added. “We can add a bit to the dinner every day and turn our seafood soup into a seafood hot pot.”

“Now that my taste buds are satisfied, I’m starting to wish I could take a shower. Humans really are never content,” Yu Yayue said, wriggling in her sleeping bag.

“Now that you mention it, I feel itchy all over too,” He Zixi added, twisting around. “It’s been days since I showered; I’m going to die of discomfort.”

Thanks to the production’s sponsorship, their diligence at low tide, and the occasional wild game, they were eating their fill. Other tools were being slowly crafted from wood, and with the sleeping bags, their living situation was relatively comfortable. Only one thing remained unbearable: hygiene.

The next morning, after breakfast, the six of them began working on the “bathroom.” To make fetching water easier, they decided to build it near the water source. They constructed a small shelter using four wooden stakes for support and used banana leaves to seal the walls and roof tightly.

Through their joint efforts, a simple bathroom was soon complete. The water containers they made yesterday were repurposed as hot water storage tanks inside. They added a wooden handle to a coconut shell to make a ladle. Finally, they gathered wood and built a stone stove to heat the iron pot full of water. The water didn’t need to boil—just get hot.

If you went first, everyone was standing right outside… though even if you went last, people would still be there, as Xia Xiangzhen and Wei Lan needed to swap out the water.

Yu Yayue made a suggestion: “The two Alphas go first. They’ve done the most work and can set an example. Then the Beta, then the Omegas. What do you think?”

Everyone agreed. Xia Xiangzhen looked at Wei Lan. “Rock-paper-scissors. One round to decide the winner.”

Xia Xiangzhen lost immediately. She and Wei Lan filled the large wooden basin with hot water. Xia Xiangzhen grabbed a change of clean clothes and entered the DIY bathroom as the first “test subject.”

No one took a long shower, and soon everyone was finished except for Yin Xiaowei.

“We don’t all need to stay here. Only Xiaowei is left and she’s already inside. I’m going back to wash the dishes,” Chen Shengze said.

“I’ll gather some dry wood to take back to the shelter,” Yu Yayue stood up.

“I’ll go with you and see if I can find some food,” Wei Lan picked up the axe. It was safer for two people to go into the forest.

“Then Xiangzhen and I will wait here for Xiaowei and clean up the site,” He Zixi said.

As Yin Xiaowei bathed, the others split into small groups to handle chores. Xia Xiangzhen and He Zixi remained, waiting for Yin Xiaowei to come out.

Hmph… grumble…

As they sat chatting, they heard a faint, low grunting sound. They were familiar with the sound, but hearing it in the forest was never a good sign.

“That sounds like a wild boar, doesn’t it?” He Zixi said nervously. “It sounds quite large.”

Xia Xiangzhen was also tense. She had her machete, and while she was confident against a small pig, she wasn’t sure she could take down a large wild boar.
