After Transmigrating into a Book, I Turned the Straight Bigshot Gay (BL) - Chapter 31
Despite everything, his internal biological clock forced him awake in the early hours before dawn.
Xie Yunshen got up to wash and exercise; he had always been an early riser. Recently, the people from the Top Star Sect had given up on monitoring him. Having lost that little bit of entertainment, he actually felt a bit bored.
The horizon was the color of a fish’s belly, and the entire manor was shrouded in a gentle, fine mist, like a kind old man still caught in a drowsy, hazy sleep. Xie Yunshen, wearing a black casual windbreaker and covered in morning dew, headed toward the mountain behind the manor alone.
At that moment, something occurred to him. He looked back at the manor’s study. The platinum-colored curtains were indeed open, and a figure was standing by the window.
Mr. Yan was dressed in loungewear, standing before a bookshelf near the window, looking down at something. His hair was loose but not messy, and even his silhouette exuded a sense of profound, refreshing handsomeness.
Xie Yunshen watched, sighing to himself that Mr. Yan was still working so hard despite how exhausted he must have been over the past few days. Just then, Yan Shiqi suddenly turned his head and looked straight at him.
The gaze was incredibly precise, like a sniper scope!
“!” Xie Yunshen was startled, wondering if Mr. Yan had eyes in the back of his head. This talent was practically made for being a secret agent.
He laughed and ran downstairs, looking up and calling out softly, “Mr. Yan!”
Yan Shiqi watched him jog over, his gaze following him. He walked to the window and pushed it open. The morning breeze rushed in, already a bit chilly. Yan Shiqi leaned his head out slightly, looking down at him. “What is it?”
Xie Yunshen smiled. “Nothing. Seeing you first thing in the morning feels very reassuring.”
The silent morning suddenly became vibrant. Having said that, he waved and walked away. Yan Shiqi’s eyes followed his departure until he disappeared into the forest on the back mountain.
After his workout, Xie Yunshen stood guard at the dining room as usual. It felt a bit strange without Old Five’s familiar figure there.
Third Uncle wasn’t in a wheelchair today. Although he still limped slightly, his recovery was lightning-fast compared to just a few days ago. After breakfast, Yan Shiqi spent a moment reviewing reports brought by the assistant.
“Shiqi, thanks to that Divine Doctor Lin you found for me, it’s really quite miraculous. He gave me a few needles and let out a bit of blood a couple of days ago, and my leg feels much lighter now.” He patted his leg, unable to hide the relief in his eyes.
Yan Shiqi put down his documents and looked at Xie Yunshen. The latter immediately averted his gaze, acting as if it had nothing to do with him. Yan Shiqi had no way to expose him, so he could only accept the credit.
Third Madam hugged her son. “Shixin, thank the Head of the family on behalf of your father.”
Yan Shixin kept his head down and didn’t respond. Third Madam gave a bitter smile; she hadn’t expected a response anyway. This child was immersed in his own world and generally didn’t like interacting with people.
“Thank you…” Just then, Yan Shixin suddenly spoke, though his eyes remained fixed elsewhere, unchanged.
“Shixin, come here.”
Yan Shixin held a hexagonal Rubik’s cube in his hand, not looking up. Third Madam’s heart tightened; with a special child like this, she feared he might accidentally offend the dignity of the Head of the family. However, Yan Shixin slowly walked over, his fingers twisting and turning the cube.
Yan Shiqi saw through the child’s intelligent and kind nature, his expression softening. “Shixin, you can stay by my side and learn about the family’s affairs. The Yan family will need you in the future.”
Third Uncle was surprised. “Is that… appropriate? This child, he…”
Yan Shiqi pressed the child’s shoulder and said, “Shixin is different. He is very smart.”
The boy kept his head down but looked up at his parents, seemingly seeking their permission. Third Uncle sighed. “I’ll leave him to you then, Shiqi. This child isn’t like the others, as you know.” He was referring to the boy’s natural autism.
“Actually, a child’s world doesn’t need external validation. Don’t you think Shixin’s perception is extraordinary?” Yan Shiqi remarked.
Third Uncle froze, almost in shame. “…Is it?” He had never actively sought out the boy’s strengths.
Xie Yunshen could see with the naked eye that the heavy look in the child’s eyes brightened. Xie Yunshen realized now that perhaps this kind of praise and encouragement was exactly what Yan Shiying (the second brother) had always wanted too.
With that settled, Yan Shiqi mentioned the Chamber of Commerce Chairman election. “I’ve had people arrange things with the Chamber members. However, what the Yan family can do, the other families will also try to do to build connections. The rest will depend on you.”
Third Uncle said, “Don’t worry. I might not win the election, but I won’t let them look down on the Yan family!”
Throughout all of this, Yan Shizhou sat to the side, looking quite distracted. Xie Yunshen figured the young master was depressed again.
The next day at the company, Yan Shiqi was meeting guests. Xie Yunshen was waiting outside when a hand slammed onto his shoulder.
“Is there something wrong, Third Young Master?” Xie Yunshen didn’t even need to turn around to know it was Yan Shizhou. The guy had been acting suspicious all day.
“Where is Yi Wuyi?”
Xie Yunshen smiled but didn’t answer. Yan Shizhou seemed to hear a hint of a sneer in that smile.
“Where did he go?” Yan Shizhou asked, his face darkening.
“You’ll have to ask Mr. Yan that. Old Five isn’t under my jurisdiction.”
“Aren’t you two so close you practically wear the same pair of pants?”
Xie Yunshen caught a strange hint of jealousy. “Actually, our relationship is far deeper than something as superficial as sharing pants,” he quipped, raising an eyebrow.
“…He went to the construction site, didn’t he?” Yan Shizhou said coldly.
Xie Yunshen shrugged. Seeing Yan Shizhou leave, he couldn’t help but look up at the ceiling and let out a silent sigh. Old Five, when are you coming back to your post? Standing guard alone these past few days was truly boring.
When Yan Shiqi emerged from the meeting room, he saw Xie Yunshen’s lifeless expression. “What’s wrong?”
“Mr. Yan, when can Old Five come back?” Xie Yunshen followed closely behind.
Yan Shiqi walked into his office. “Oh? You miss him that much?”
“I do.”
Yan Shiqi turned and looked at him. Xie Yunshen, thinking he was looking for confirmation, said with a determined gaze, “I really, really miss him.”
The curve of Yan Shiqi’s lips flattened. He looked at him for a moment. “In two more days, once the site matters are resolved, Old Five will be back.”
Xie Yunshen felt like the man wanted to say something else, but he stopped himself. When did the Bigshot become so hesitant? “Mr. Yan, if you have something to say, just say it.”
Yan Shiqi said, “Old Five isn’t right for you.”
“How is he not right for me?” Xie Yunshen internally generated a massive question mark. Without Old Five, where would he find such a perfectly synchronized work partner?
Yan Shiqi looked grave, clearly not used to discussing emotional topics. “Then it is very likely you will be in a one-sided situation—unrequited love, so to speak.”
Xie Yunshen fell into a long, bewildered silence. “Un… unrequited love? Mr. Yan, what does that have to do with me and Old Five? We aren’t going to become love rivals.”
Yan Shiqi was silent for a moment. “Never mind.”
Xie Yunshen leaned his hands on the desk. “Mr. Yan, don’t worry. Old Five and I have completely different personalities. It’s impossible for us to be love rivals.”
Yan Shiqi looked at his dead-serious face, turned his head away, and let out a smile of utter speechlessness.
“I have some information here. Take a look.” He took a file out of the safe below.
Xie Yunshen looked at him curiously while taking the documents. He opened them to see an ultrasound image and several hospital test results. They all belonged to the same person.
“Lin Wanchu… isn’t that Lin Jin’s sister?” Xie Yunshen was startled.
“Remember when you mentioned Lin Jin came to the Yan manor looking for clues about her? After that day, I specifically sent people to investigate.”
Xie Yunshen picked up a photo. It was Lin Jin as a teenager standing next to an elegant, beautiful girl; they looked like siblings. Another photo showed Lin Wanchu with another man, but the man’s face was obscured by the glare of the sun.
“His sister was pregnant?” He remembered that in the novel, the sister was never mentioned as being married or in a relationship.
Yan Shiqi nodded. “These records no longer exist in the hospital archives. Someone deliberately destroyed the evidence. There is only a death certificate—no cause of death, no reports.”
“Then how did you find it?” In the novel, the Male Lead with the protagonist halo had searched for a long time without finding such detailed records.
Yan Shiqi looked at him. “Money. And people.”
Short and to the point. Xie Yunshen: “…”
“How is Shangguan Hong doing?”
“Lin Jin says the man is incredibly shrewd; he won’t say a word. He won’t be dying anytime soon.”
“You can show this photo to Shangguan Hong and see how he reacts.”
Xie Yunshen took a closer look at the man in the photo. He was also wearing glasses and had a tall build; he really did look like Shangguan Hong.
“This is a video from six months ago. Miss Lin went to a Yan Group mall to buy baby supplies. When she walked out, a man came to pick her up.” Yan Shiqi turned his laptop around to show him.
Outside the mall entrance, a man sat in the driver’s seat of a black SUV. The angle only showed a side profile. It was Shangguan Hong.
Xie Yunshen felt a chill run down his spine. If that man really was Shangguan Hong, then Lin Wanchu’s death was inextricably linked to the Top Star Sect.
“Wait a second.” That “cobra” Shangguan Hong was still with Lin Jin; it would take a couple of days for him to recover. Xie Yunshen only took the two photos and the ultrasound.
Yan Shiqi looked at him. “A-Shen.”
Xie Yunshen looked back, feeling that this was the first time Yan Shiqi had looked at him with such gravity, and the first time he had clearly called him by his name.
Yan Shiqi’s voice was clear and powerful. “Once these matters are resolved, do not provoke the Top Star Sect again. Their power is beyond your imagination.”
Xie Yunshen asked, “Then why do you still go against them?”
Yan Shiqi leaned back in his chair, his gaze like a torch. “I simply haven’t complied with their intentions; I haven’t reached the point of no return. But what you are doing is equivalent to focusing all the firepower on yourself. I don’t want you touching this muddy water.”
Xie Yunshen, seeing him open his heart like this, smiled. “But I want to.”
“…” Yan Shiqi lowered his head and rubbed the shallow furrow between his brows.
“Mr. Yan, has anyone ever told you that although you aren’t tall, you’re actually really handsome?” Xie Yunshen leaned over the desk, his bright black eyes looking at him.
Yan Shiqi chuckled. “No.”
“It must be because you’re too distant from the masses,” Xie Yunshen explained for him.
“I mean,” Yan Shiqi added, “no one has ever told me to my face that I ‘am not tall’.”
Even someone as arrogant as Lin Jin could only hint at it.
“…Oh.” Xie Yunshen covered his face in embarrassment.
