Chapter 83 – Fu O & Qi A – (Extra 6)

The touch was fleeting, so light that it couldn’t even be called a kiss. But after Fu Nanxuan pulled away, Qi Mian looked at her, the smile on her face slowly falling.

“I’m sorry, Nanxuan.” Qi Mian subconsciously wanted to avoid her gaze, but in the end, she looked at Fu Nanxuan and said, “We can’t be like this.”

“Why?” Fu Nanxuan knew that she understood her feelings, but before she could even say them, she was directly rejected by Qi Mian. “You clearly…like me too. Otherwise, why would you be so good to me?”

She could see that Qi Mian had feelings for her, and she didn’t believe that anyone was truly kind enough to help a classmate they weren’t related to without asking for anything in return.

“I…I do like you.” Qi Mian found it a little difficult to speak. “But not in the way you think. I only treat you as a friend.”

On the first day of school, when she stepped into the class, she saw Fu Nanxuan sitting in the corner at first glance. Sitting there alone, the noise around her had nothing to do with her, isolating herself, like an isolated island. Her heart inexplicably twitched, and she was unconsciously attracted by her temperament. She walked to Fu Nanxuan’s desk and greeted her.

But Fu Nanxuan was a moving island, keeping her distance and unwilling to let people approach. Qi Mian could only stand in place and silently pay attention to her, discovering that she would be frustrated, occasionally smile with her head down, but most of the time, she was expressionless, as if troubled by something.

It wasn’t until their second year of high school that they had some interactions because of many things. Then Fu Nanxuan, this isolated island, was willing to stop for her, opening a port that had never been used, allowing her to dock and land.

She thought that the other party had accepted her as a friend. But she never thought it would be in this way, never thought that Fu Nanxuan would like her.

“Friend…?” Fu Nanxuan looked at her, disbelief appearing in her eyes. “You can receive a strange message and rush to school to save a friend? You can take a friend home and take care of them so meticulously?” After speaking, she suddenly closed her eyes. In her heart, she sadly thought, yes, Qi Mian can do it.

“Nanxuan, in my heart, you are my best friend… um…” Qi Mian tried to sit up, and when she accidentally pulled on her wound, she instantly frowned in pain.

Fu Nanxuan’s mood was complicated, but she still couldn’t bear to help her. After she sat up, she immediately withdrew her hand and took two steps back.

Qi Mian silently watched her movements, feeling uncomfortable and unable to speak. Feelings are inherently difficult to quantify and define. She treats Fu Nanxuan as a good friend, but occasionally their interactions are ambiguously above friendship.

Fu Nanxuan didn’t want to talk, Qi Mian couldn’t speak, and the atmosphere was temporarily deadlocked. It wasn’t until the nanny brought dinner that the knock on the door broke the silence.

“You should rest first.” Fu Nanxuan lowered her head and didn’t look at her. After speaking, she walked out directly.

Qi Mian hesitated to speak, but in the end, she didn’t say anything to keep her, and could only let her leave.

In the following days, Fu Nanxuan didn’t appear again. Until the day before the end of the differentiation leave, when Qi Mian could get out of bed, she went to Fu Nanxuan’s door and tentatively knocked. She didn’t wait for anyone to answer the door.

She was inexplicably uneasy, and tentatively grabbed the doorknob and pressed it, and the door was not locked. She took a deep breath and said sorry before pushing the door open, and was stunned by what she saw inside.

The bed sheets were spread flat, and even the folding marks were still there. The room was deserted as if no one had lived in it. She walked in again and opened the closet, and there were no clothes inside. The table was also empty.

“Miss?” The nanny passed by the guest room and found that the door was open. She took a look and found that Qi Mian was inside. She habitually explained. “Ms. Fu moved out a few days ago, saying that she has been busy recently, and it takes too much time to commute. Living in the school dormitory will be more convenient.” After speaking, she suddenly remembered the sentence that Fu Nanxuan left before leaving. “She said she told you…”

“Mm, she told me. I was just checking if she had left anything behind. Thank you.” Qi Mian turned her back to the door, not letting the nanny see her expression, and said with a slightly nasal voice.

Although the nanny felt something was wrong, she couldn’t say anything about the employer’s family affairs, and left quietly.

Qi Mian bit her lip, revealing a sad expression, and at this moment even blamed Fu Nanxuan. “Isn’t it okay to just be friends? I didn’t approach her for that kind of relationship in the first place.”

Is it wrong to have a good impression? Even if she was leaving, why didn’t she tell her?

When she saw Fu Nanxuan at school, Qi Mian sat down quietly. The other party smiled and greeted her nonchalantly, but that smile was no longer like before, full of undiscovered affection, distant and polite.

“Good morning.” Qi Mian replied with a calm and polite expression, and then packed her schoolbag and homework.

After discovering that Fu Nanxuan had left, she thought about it all night, and didn’t feel any resentment. She only felt very frustrated and thought that this was also good.

She was not as ignorant of the real her as Fu Nanxuan thought. Qi Mian actually knew how petty and possessive she was. Occasionally, when she talked to other people a few words, she would see Fu Nanxuan’s cold face in the corner of her eye, and she would have to wait for herself to go back and coax her.

She had a strong self-esteem and was very stubborn. It was not easy to get her to accept the newly bought clothes, which were all discounted and out of season. In the end, she had to treat her to a drink, saying that she would pay her back with the scholarship money.

Qi Mian was occasionally hurt by her self-esteem, but she tried to understand Fu Nanxuan’s situation, so she could patiently tolerate all her edges and corners. She thought that her friend was very good, so she hoped that during her growing up period, she could do her best to make her walk smoothly.

But Fu Nanxuan’s decisive and cold attitude made her feel at a loss.

What she wanted, Qi Mian didn’t think she could give casually, and she really…didn’t want to have a relationship beyond friendship with her for the time being. If this was exchanged for Fu Nanxuan’s estrangement, Qi Mian could only accept it.

She could give a lot for Fu Nanxuan, this good [unauthorized copy]friend, but this matter was not within the scope she thought she could give. She didn’t want to coax her and make her mistakenly think that there was a chance.

It happened that Fu Nanxuan and Qi Mian were both good at pretending.

They would still eat together, but most of the time they were silent. During group activities, Qi Mian would still choose to be in the same group with Fu Nanxuan first. She tried her best to maintain the relationship of ordinary friends and classmates. But her communication with Fu Nanxuan was getting less and less. Only the classmates in the class couldn’t see any difference between them.

On the day of the final exam, Qi Mian breathed a sigh of relief. She couldn’t help but feel a little lighter when packing her desk, thinking that she wouldn’t have to see Fu Nanxuan for a month during the winter vacation, so she wouldn’t have to act anymore. After school starts, they can change seats, which can be considered as giving each other peace.

She didn’t notice that Fu Nanxuan beside her was looking at her, her eyes dark.

After taking a shower at night, Qi Mian lay on the bed, recalling the bits and pieces of this semester, only feeling very tired. But thinking of Fu Nanxuan, she still felt very uncomfortable.

Watching her friend gradually drift away was not an easy knot to untie for her who cared about friends.

In fact, Qi Mian didn’t say as stubbornly as she did at the beginning that she would never coax her. Occasionally, she still tried to talk to Fu Nanxuan, but the other party always responded indifferently. Although it wasn’t completely unresponsive, Qi Mian could feel that she had returned to her previous state of being an isolated island.

Even though she was sitting next to Fu Nanxuan, the closest distance to her in the class.

“Never mind…” Qi Mian comforted herself. “Maybe we will lose contact after graduation, it’s just a little earlier now.”

Lying on the bed in disappointment, she couldn’t help but think of Fu Nanxuan. She didn’t know what she was doing, whether she ate well? How would she spend the winter vacation? Originally, she planned to invite Fu Nanxuan to spend the New Year with her…

But now…

The phone suddenly rang, scaring Qi Mian. She quickly found her phone and discovered it was a call from Fu Nanxuan. Knowing that she was the other party’s emergency contact, and receiving a call so late made her feel a little flustered, and she quickly answered.

“Fu Nanxuan?” As soon as the call was connected, she called out to the other party.

But it was quiet over there, and no one spoke. Qi Mian called the other party’s name again, and after a few seconds of silence, there were a few painful gasps.

It was like breathing next to her ear, but she never spoke.

Qi Mian was too worried. Without hanging up the phone, she got out of bed to change her clothes, and went outside to ask the nanny, who hadn’t slept yet, to find a driver for her.

“Fu Nanxuan? Are you at school? What’s wrong? I’ll go find you now.” Qi Mian said a few words quickly, while walking towards the door.

Until she got in the car, she finally heard a very soft reply: “I’m…in the dormitory. I’m so uncomfortable…Qi Mian.”

“Don’t hang up the phone, I’ll go find you now.” Qi Mian said anxiously.

“I’ll be there soon. Wait for me.”
