After Transmigrating Into A Scum Alpha, I Fell In Love With Her Wife - Chapter 8
“How much does President Sheng think this face of mine is worth?”
After Sheng Xing said those faintly humiliating words, Shen Li not only did not get angry, but her body even relaxed a little more. She lazily braced herself backward against the sink.
The movement made the lines of her arms tense into something smooth, slender, and flowing. Her collarbones became even more distinct, like two clean arcs of the moon.
The outline of her camisole clung to her body and wound downward, tucking into a waist that looked as if it could be held in one hand. Farther down, her pale blue jeans wrapped around two straight, long legs.
It was only an ordinary black high ponytail, yet it made her skull look round and full, even the curve of the top of her head just right.
The light fell over her face. That face was so fair it was almost transparent, with a high, straight nose and a jawline as clear as if it had been drawn by a pen.
She lifted her eyes slightly, her tea-colored gaze carrying a seductive smile as she looked straight over.
Sheng Xing’s heartbeat sped up for no reason.
It was not as if this was her first time seeing Shen Li.
Sheng Xing’s fingertips slid across Shen Li’s chin, then lightly withdrew.
Perhaps these few years of flirting around had made her understand charm better.
Sheng Xing could not win against her in words.
“Tell Secretary Song the number you want. She’ll transfer it to you.”
Sheng Xing stuck the suppressor patch back on and opened the bathroom door to walk out.
“Oh, right. Keep the evening of the first of next month free. We’re going home to see Grandma.”
After Sheng Xing said this, she paused for a moment.
“To tell her about the divorce.”
Shen Li paused as well and instinctively glanced at the group photo on the wall.
“Do you need me to teach you what to say?” Sheng Xing glanced at her.
Shen Li shook her head.
She had no memories and knew nothing about Sheng Xing’s grandmother. The more she said, the more mistakes she would make, so it was enough to leave it to Sheng Xing.
After all, she was Sheng Xing’s grandmother, the person who loved her most. No matter how unwilling she might be to see Sheng Xing divorce, in the end, she would still favor her own granddaughter.
Yet in Sheng Xing’s eyes, Shen Li’s decisive denial seemed to carry another meaning.
She stepped directly up to Shen Li in her high heels, her expression grave, speaking word by word.
“I’ve suppressed all those ugly scandals about the women around you on Grandma’s side.”
“Shen Li, I don’t care how you usually act out, but if you dare play any tricks in front of Grandma, I absolutely won’t let you off.”
A little wolf baring her teeth.
“Sheng Xing,” Shen Li called her.
“What?”
“Fierce.”
“…”
Shen Li picked up the white jacket Sheng Xing had thrown onto the sofa and walked slowly and unhurriedly to Sheng Xing’s side.
“Next time, can you not be so fierce right after you’re comfortable?”
Sheng Xing’s complexion, which had only just recovered with difficulty, suddenly flushed red again.
“You! There won’t be a next time.”
Shen Li rubbed her own gland.
“Really? Wife.”
As soon as the words fell, Sheng Xing’s jacket had already been worn by Shen Li.
It had originally been a matching set, but now half of it was on Shen Li, and the other half remained on Sheng Xing.
With the light-colored outfit and her balanced figure, it did not look overly ridiculous or mismatched.
Sheng Xing’s eyes were complicated. All of her outfits were carefully selected sets, almost to the point of obsession.
Now, half of her clothes had suddenly been worn away, breaking her sense of order.
Shen Li turned a blind eye.
“Lend me the clothes. Otherwise, I can only go out like this.”
Sheng Xing said nothing.
“If you don’t mind, then I don’t mind either.”
As Shen Li spoke, she made as if to take the jacket off.
Sheng Xing hurriedly stopped her.
“The clothes are yours now. Don’t wear them in front of me again. And don’t call me those two words anymore.”
After saying this, Sheng Xing ignored her and went straight to her desk to work.
Shen Li smiled and slowly fastened the jacket’s buttons properly.
“Oh, right. There’s something I almost forgot to give you.”
As she spoke, she took out her phone from her pocket, fiddled with it a few times to open a recording, turned up the volume, and placed it on Sheng Xing’s desk.
Noisy sounds came through. The audio quality was not especially clear.
“Teacher Shen, my alcohol tolerance is so bad… I’m drunk after only a few drinks.”
It was Jiang Yue’s voice.
“You’re quite self-aware.”
Shen Li’s voice was slightly breathless. It was probably very tiring carrying Jiang Yue.
“Teacher Shen… but I clearly blocked those drinks for you~”
“Finally here. I’m exhausted.”
Shen Li’s words were quieter this time. Immediately after came the sound of swiping a keycard into a hotel room.
The sound of the door closing followed, and Jiang Yue’s voice grew even more syrupy, as if she had moved closer to Shen Li.
“Teacher Shen… touch my face. Isn’t it really hot~?”
“Thud.”
There was a muffled sound, as if Jiang Yue had been directly thrown onto the sofa.
“Ah!” Jiang Yue cried out from the fall.
“Teacher Shen, you made me… you made me hurt all over… Here, here hurts so much. Rub it for me~”
Her voice moved closer again.
“Ai, are you annoying or not?” Shen Li’s voice had completely lost patience.
“The person who wanted to drink earlier wasn’t targeting me at all. You randomly blocked them, and that’s why they got competitive with you. You’re an Omega, yet without bringing an assistant or bodyguard, you still dared to release pheromones so casually. This time I happened to be in a decent mood. Next time, I won’t be so kind as to meddle.”
“Tonight, you spilled alcohol on my haute couture gown. Have your assistant transfer me the cleaning fee.”
There was another sound of a door handle turning and the door closing.
The recording came to an abrupt end there. The date was exactly the day the paparazzi had taken those photos.
Shen Li currently still did not know what the situation was with the original owner’s rumors involving other people.
But at the very least, Jiang Yue’s case was fake.
A massive computer stood between Shen Li and Sheng Xing.
She could not see Sheng Xing’s expression. Through the gap beneath the computer, she could only see Sheng Xing’s fingers suspended in midair.
“What is your purpose in letting me hear this?”
Sheng Xing’s voice was soft.
That day’s argument had been the trigger, the final straw that crushed their marriage.
And now Shen Li had come to tell her it was fake.
“Nothing much. No one wants to accept the fact that their wife cheated during marriage. I only wanted to tell you that nothing happened that day.”
“Even if it can make you mind it one bit less.”
After Shen Li finished speaking, she put the phone back into her pocket. Without waiting for Sheng Xing’s reply, her fingers tapped on the “Divorce Agreement” she had covered earlier, her tone light.
“Be merciful, Ah Xing.”
Shen Li left Sheng Xing’s office. In the corridor, she “coincidentally” ran into quite a few people. When they saw her come out, their eyes were filled with novelty.
And when they saw the jacket belonging to President Sheng on her body, their expressions instantly turned into a silent but unmistakable: they had shipped it.
Shen Li did not return to the crew. After having her assistant pack up her things, she directly contacted Xia Ran’s car to pick her up.
When the car window lowered, Shen Li walked out wearing sunglasses.
Her steps were steady, her back straight. She was still that female celebrity who made people unable to look away wherever she went.
But Xia Ran noticed the tiny signs with one glance—her jaw was clenched too tight, and her fingertips were slightly curled, as if she were enduring something.
Shen Li opened the car door, bringing in a breath of the night wind.
She glanced at the large bouquet of white peonies in the car. It was probably Xia Ran’s gift to celebrate her wrap.
Shen Li curved her lips, which counted as a smile.
Immediately after, she directly pulled up the divider between the front and back seats, quickly took an injection from her bag, rolled up her sleeve, and injected it into her arm.
Her face was pale. Sweat beaded on her forehead, and her reddish-brown stray hairs stuck to her temples. Her furrowed expression looked truly weak and pained.
It was unknown how long she had been enduring it.
Xia Ran did not even dare speak. Only after Shen Li had pushed the entire dose of balancing agent in did she softly ask,
“Do you need to go to the hospital?”
Shen Li closed her eyes and slowly felt the sensation of the medicine flowing through her blood.
Even shaking her head felt exhausting.
Several days of blocker injections had kept her pheromones at a low level.
Sheng Xing’s sudden need, and the release of her pheromones, had indeed already exceeded the physical limit Shen Li could regulate on her own.
“What exactly happened? Your body is clearly not right.”
“Can you smell my pheromones?” Shen Li asked.
“…I have eyes.”
Shen Li pressed her lips together.
“It’s nothing. A rejection reaction, probably. Don’t worry. I’ll be responsible for my own body.”
“If I’m not wrong, you temporarily marked President Sheng?”
Such intense pheromone intermingling was hard to hide.
Shen Li thought for a moment.
“Mm.”
“Then why are you still using blockers? You two…”
Xia Ran’s eyes widened, and her expression became very complicated.
Shen Li was silent for a while.
“Please keep the temporary mark completely confidential. Can you?”
She rarely made such a solemn request. Xia Ran looked into her eyes and paused.
“This is your private life. I have no right to interfere, and I won’t gossip.”
Shen Li nodded.
“Then Director Zhang’s script…”
“I’m already like this. You still have the heart to make me take a role?”
“Director Zhang won’t wait for people. If we miss this window, the role will be gone…”
“Aiyou, it hurts so much…”
An exaggerated look of pain appeared on Shen Li’s beautiful face again.
“…”
Xia Ran looked at her with a complicated expression. Then she looked at Shen Li’s face, which still had not fully recovered its color. After a long silence, she rubbed her temples.
“Fine. Do as you like.”
A heavy, stifling silence expanded in the car, and no one spoke again.
Xia Ran could not abruptly accept the news that Shen Li wanted to retire from acting and leave the industry. For now, she could only let her drop the work on her shoulders bit by bit.
The celebrity van slowly drove out of the underground garage. Just as it reached the surface, the driver slammed on the brakes.
Shen Li jolted from the sudden stop.
“What happened?” Xia Ran asked the driver.
“It seems to be a fan. She’s blocking the car.”
“Stop first and pay attention to safety. I’ll contact people to come clear the road.”
The set where Shen Li was filming was not a secret. Normal fans were organized and had boundaries, but someone who could rush in front of the car and block it was harder to identify.
The celebrity van slowly stopped, and Xia Ran quickly dialed a number.
Shen Li was a little curious. A Miss Numbers of her level actually had such fanatical fans too?
It was noisy outside the car. Shen Li could not help secretly lifting one corner of the window curtain.
With just one glance, Shen Li’s heart felt as if it had been yanked hard.
A young girl was wearing a thick down jacket and black-framed glasses. Her lips were pale from the cold, and her expression was anxious as she tried to say something to the driver.
Her clothes were different, but her face was eighty percent similar.
She was one of Shen Li’s biggest fans from her previous life.
She had been a fan since her student days, witnessing Shen Li rise from an unknown newcomer all the way to a Grand Slam Best Actress. As long as she was present, the letters and small gifts she prepared were always the most heartfelt.
Even after Shen Li’s death, she had persisted in posting in the super topic, writing out her daily longing, and even until the revolving lantern before Shen Li’s eyes disappeared, her words had not stopped.
Shen Li suddenly felt her eyes blur.
In the overlapping blur, those similar faces merged once again.
The car window slowly rolled down. Xia Ran was startled and wanted to stop her, but she felt Shen Li seemed to have something to say.
Fortunately, Shen Li was wearing oversized sunglasses, so no emotion could be seen on her face.
When the fan saw that it was Shen Li herself, her instinctive reaction of surprise was to move closer, but before approaching the car window, she restrained her steps.
“Shen… Shen Li…”
“Is something the matter?” Shen Li nodded, indicating for her to speak.
It was probably the girl’s first time talking to Shen Li face to face, and she was completely dazed. The messy honking from the cars behind made her even more flustered.
Shen Li simply looked at her like that. She did not scold her, did not rush her, and did not close the window.
The girl steadied herself, slowly walked to the car window, and bent down.
“Did you really say numbers!”
An instant face change?
“When you were eighteen, you tested into the best film academy in the country. For four years, you passed every single course. Your voice is unique and outstanding, with vocal qualities even top-tier voice actors have recognized. Why don’t you have confidence in yourself?”
“This contains all the video materials from your exams over the years that we could collect. All of us Little Pear Blossoms made it together. If you have time, please make sure to watch it. Watch how excellent you are, and how hard you once worked.”
“Whether we believe the rumors and exposés isn’t important at all. What matters is that we believe you can get better. Even better than before.”
“Just like all the Little Pear Blossoms who love you and have been encouraged by you.”
“We’ve already been fighting antis for twenty-four hours. Don’t be afraid.”
The more she spoke, the more emotional she became. Her tone already carried a reckless sob.
The crew’s security had already arrived. Before she was escorted away, she shoved the USB drive into Shen Li’s car window.
Xia Ran slowly rolled the window back up and instructed them not to have any violent conflict.
Shen Li rubbed the USB drive between her fingers. Its metal material should have been icy cold in the middle of winter, yet it had been held in that girl’s hand until it still carried lingering warmth.
“You know her?”
Although Xia Ran did not quite understand why she was asking, she still nodded.
“The way she acted today… she probably really was a little shaken. After all, back then, it was because she received your encouragement that she made it step by step to where she is today.”
“My encouragement?”
Shen Li was somewhat puzzled.
She had no memories, but these past few days, she had already thoroughly understood the original owner’s resume.
There really was nothing that could be called inspirational about it.
“The standard for liking a celebrity isn’t only whether they’re popular or not.”
“Every tiny bit of progress you made, the way you still didn’t give up even while being mocked by everyone, and even your very existence in this circle—”
“To the people who like you, all of that is a beam of light.”
