Chapter 46
President Chi ultimately failed to successfully become the live-in partner. After being scolded by the Omega, she dejectedly followed her, running back and forth.
She tried to help, but only succeeded in hindering.
Lu You, finding her bothersome, gave her a bag of yogurt and pushed her aside, telling her to go play with the two-year-old Omega in the next ward.
Chi Huan chewed on the yogurt pouch, resting her chin in her hand in deep thought.
The little nursing baby sat by the bed in the same pose, clutching his bottle.
“…I wasn’t actually thrown out,” Chi Huan muttered to herself.
The little baby sucked on his bottle and babbled loudly: “Throw out!”
“Is Lu You’s temper really that good?”
The little baby repeated: “Throw out!”
“…Last time we met, she looked like she wanted to cut me into a thousand pieces. Why the 180-degree turn this time?” Chi Huan couldn’t figure it out.
The little baby cheered: “Throw out!”
“…” Chi Huan looked down at the little child, her mouth twitching. “Do we have a grudge?”
The little baby clapped happily, ready to “throw her out” again.
Chi Huan gave up. She rubbed her face and sat down to drink her yogurt.
Lu You was finished packing over there. Chi Huan drank the yogurt dry from the pouch and threw it into the trash can without looking.
A warm, soft hand ruffled the little kid’s cowlick: “I touched your head. You won’t grow tall now. Let’s see if you still dare to throw me out.”
The little baby was furious: “Pffft!”
Chi Huan dodged the milky attack and left the room in a pleasant mood: “That’s what you get for learning bad things instead of good. Goodbye!”
Lu You got into the car and gave the address to the driver from the moving company.
“Are you serious about arguing with a child?”
Chi Huan protested: “Aren’t I a baby too?” (Referring to her 300 months of age).
Lu You expressed that she did not want to deal with the three-hundred-month-old baby and closed her eyes to rest in the back seat.
Even with her eyes closed, she was fully aware of the Alpha’s small movements beside her.
One moment, Chi Huan shifted around as if the seat cushion had thorns. The next, she annoyingly leaned close to observe her, even letting out a “shush” that she clearly thought was quiet.
Who was she “shushing”? She was the loudest person here.
Chi Huan raised a finger to her lips, doing a thief-like “shush,” gesturing for the driver to keep quiet.
The driver’s mouth twitched. He glanced at her twice, then turned his gaze back to the road.
After Grandma was discharged, the original residence was no longer suitable. It was too far from the hospital and inconvenient for travel.
During this time, Lu You had found a new place. Today, they were moving to the new residence.
It was a scenic neighborhood, not necessarily high-end, but with all the necessary facilities.
Most importantly, it was right by the subway entrance, making travel easy.
The moving company efficiently moved Lu You’s belongings from the old residence, along with the things Grandma used at the hospital. They settled the accounts and left.
Chi Huan was about to follow them upstairs, but Lu You held the door frame, not letting go.
Chi Huan: “?”
Lu You glanced toward the neighborhood entrance and said, lowering her eyes: “Don’t come up. Wait for me here.”
Chi Huan obediently said “oh,” retracted her foot, and sat in the car, watching wistfully as Lu You directed the moving company workers upstairs.
She had actually seen it: in the direction Lu You was looking, a middle-aged couple was walking into the neighborhood.
They looked dusty and weather-beaten, their faces marked by the toll of years, making them look about ten years older than their actual age.
Those were Lu You’s parents.
Lu You was avoiding her parents seeing her.
Chi Huan watched eagerly from the car window, instinctively lowering her head as the couple walked past the car.
The car wasn’t tinted, so the interior was visible from the outside.
She only lifted her head once the couple had passed.
Chi Huan wasn’t completely clueless about Lu You’s erratic attitude.
After all, she was the one who was playing games from the start.
So, Lu You cursing her indirectly, ignoring her, and giving her the cold shoulder… were all normal reactions.
She wasn’t angry; just a little disappointed.
She was already quite satisfied with Lu You’s current mild manner toward her.
As for anything else… asking for too much would be excessive.
“Xiao You,” after the moving company left, Lin Hui pulled Lu You aside and asked quietly, “Where did you get the money for this rental?”
Lu You looked at her with clear eyes: “Mom, what are you trying to say?”
Lin Hui’s eyes widened. She asked anxiously: “Did you… reconcile with that rich second-generation?”
Lu You’s heart sank.
Her brief silence clearly misled Lin Hui. She happily touched the clean, spacious bathroom, looking around.
“Money makes a difference! Look how generous she is! Tell me, why were you so stubborn with her? If you had lowered your head earlier, wouldn’t your father and I have been able to enjoy life sooner? You really don’t think things through!”
Lu You said lightly: “We did not reconcile.”
Lin Hui: “Huh?”
Lu You: “The money wasn’t from her either.”
Lin Hui looked at her suspiciously: “Don’t lie to your mother. I wouldn’t take your money, would I? Have we ever asked you for a single cent of what she gave you? Why are you hiding things?”
Lu You had a headache. She rubbed her forehead: “Don’t overthink it. Just live here and enjoy it.”
She didn’t dare tell Lin Hui the money was from starting a business. She knew exactly what her mother would say.
Why is an Omega working so hard?
If you just marry a rich person, won’t you become a wealthy wife?
You’re so foolish.
You don’t think about your parents at all.
…
These words had been drilled into her ears for days.
Lu You gently persuaded Lin Hui to go back inside. She herself went downstairs and found Chi Huan squatting by the flowerbed near the lake, counting ants.
Chi Huan was moving the ants from the anthill back toward the fallen food scraps, muttering:
“I can’t go home, and you want to go home? Get moving!”
“…”
Chi Huan belatedly looked up: “Are you done yet?”
“Not yet,” Lu You said, sitting on the long bench. “It’s noon.”
Chi Huan brightened up. It was noon. Time to eat. Lu You was going to invite her back…
“Aren’t you going home yet?” Lu You asked.
Chi Huan pouted: “No! I’m going to starve myself to death!”
“Go ahead,” Lu You sighed. “I’m not your mother. Do you think I care if you use that to threaten me?”
Chi Huan wanted to say that threatening her mother wouldn’t work either.
She would just get hit on the head.
Winning over a lover is not achieved in a day. Reversing a bad impression won’t happen overnight.
Chi Huan wasn’t insisting that Lu You immediately fall in love with her.
She was here today for one thing.
“Let’s get back together.”
Lu You looked down. The Alpha squatting on the ground was pathetically hunched over, one hand hesitantly reaching for the edge of the bench, looking at her eagerly.
Chi Huan swallowed. Her fingers curled up in embarrassment, but her gaze was sincere and pure.
“I like you. Can you… be my girlfriend?”
Lu You was noncommittal: “You like my face because it resembles Mu Yi’s?”
“…” Chi Huan’s throat subtly shifted. She couldn’t hold back: “Don’t bring her up. Bringing up another Alpha at a time like this makes me feel like vomiting.”
She was actually feeling sick from nervousness.
Lu You reached out and pinched her cheek, smiling: “No. I won’t agree.”
Chi Huan grew anxious.
Today was the last day. If she didn’t complete this unfortunate mission, she would be randomly turned into an animal and banished to some unknown corner again.
Never mind what might happen to her; Lu You would definitely be in danger.
Chi Huan urgently asked: “Why not?”
Lu You said: “Your heart isn’t sincere enough.”
Chi Huan felt wronged: “I’m clearly very sincere!”
Lu You shook her head: “Not enough.”
Not enough? Chi Huan widened her beautiful fox-eyes into puppy-dog eyes, full of unspoken grievance.
Lu You said: “Think again. What should you say?”
Chi Huan couldn’t think of anything.
She was a single person who had never dated for 20 years. Forget romance; she hadn’t even held anyone’s hand. She hadn’t had a single chance to practice.
Coming here, she never expected this “chasing a wife” subplot. She had zero preparation and was completely rushed into it. How was she supposed to know what to say now?
In her panic, her mind was flooded with “Woman, you’ve caught my attention!” type of CEO quotes.
Lu You: “Are you thinking your CEO quotes?”
Chi Huan instinctively: “Yup.”
She realized what she said, her face instantly turning red like a tomato, puffing out smoke.
Lu You asked: “Don’t the CEO quotes tell you what to do?”
Chi Huan frantically shook her head, covering her face.
Lu You sighed, pulled her hands away, leaned closer to her, and lowered her head: “Based on a CEO’s code of conduct, when the Omega disagrees, you just kiss her.”
The area by the lake was shielded by the tall trees planted in the flowerbeds. Outsiders couldn’t see inside. Only the fierce sun broke through the treetops, casting dappled light.
A gust of wind blew through, scattering countless falling leaves.
The Alpha looked up blankly. The Omega’s face was close, snowy white and delicate. Her curled long eyelashes brushed against Chi Huan’s face, causing a slight tickle.
She was being kissed.
A hand covered her eyes.
The dappled light disappeared. The falling leaves disappeared. She couldn’t even feel the wind anymore.
As their lips touched, the person softly murmured: “So dense.”
Late at night, a fierce wind raged outside. The small garden of the private hospital was full of ornamental trees that were beautiful but fragile. They were now bent over, their branches on the ground, trembling.
Thunder roared and lightning tore through the night sky. The entire building shook.
Mu Wan was huddled under the blanket, her face ghostly white. Cold sweat dripped from her forehead. Her dry, cracked lips muttered: “No, don’t force me… You’re mine. I won’t let go…”
Mu Yi, who had worked all day, turned on the light and entered the ward. She quietly put down her phone and was about to wash up when the person on the bed suddenly began to tremble violently.
She flung her hand out, throwing the blanket onto the floor.
Mu Yi realized she was having a nightmare. She picked up the blanket, intending to cover her again.
Just then, Mu Wan suddenly opened her eyes, grabbing Mu Yi’s wrist. Her eyes were bloodshot: “Lu You… you can’t run away. Don’t think about leaving me…”
Mu Yi stood stunned by the bed, holding the blanket.
