Amnesia Trap (GL) - Chapter 14
Seeing Ji Qingfan and suddenly saying to follow her…
“I’m annoyed right now, how can I let her have her way?”
She spat out the sentence through clenched teeth, unsure if she was explaining to Jiang Wanyin or to herself.
She was currently both disgusted with Ji Qingfan and exasperated by the emotions Ji Qingfan had stirred up in her.
After throwing out that curt explanation, Sheng Zhi became completely silent again, like a closed-off gourd. Only her emotional eyes looked more brilliantly captivating.
However, hearing her say this, Jiang Wanyin actually believed her.
She thought of her previous uneasy premonitions and felt like laughing.
She had been overthinking it. Sheng Zhi hated Ji Qingfan so much; following her must only be for the sake of causing trouble, just like when they were still in school.
“You really haven’t changed at all from before,” Jiang Wanyin rubbed her hair, and then got out of the car and opened the door for Sheng Zhi. “Let’s go, let’s go see what happens.”
Sheng Zhi smoothed her hair. Normally, she would have traded a few insults with Jiang Wanyin, but her attention wasn’t on that now. Hearing her, she simply raised her chin and gave a casual hum.
However, after getting out and walking a few steps, she seemed to snap back to reality and shook her head, pushing Jiang Wanyin back into the car: “No, I’m going alone. It’s too obvious if you come with me. Just wait for me in the car.”
…Just in case—she meant, just in case—something embarrassing happened, she didn’t want Jiang Wanyin to witness it.
After pushing Jiang Wanyin back into the car, Sheng Zhi hesitated, then quickly went into the adjacent shopping mall to buy a hat and a mask before entering the restaurant.
Ji Qingfan’s location was easy to find. The two women were sitting by the window. Sheng Zhi couldn’t tell what they were discussing, but Ji Qingfan was resting her chin on her hand, her lips slightly curved in a smile that clearly made Gu Shi, who was sitting opposite her, blush.
Sheng Zhi saw this and felt inexplicably angry, like she was about to explode.
—This was a hypocritical smile that could be shown to anyone.
She acted this way for her, and she acted this way for others too.
Fake, too fake.
As she was thinking this with gritted teeth, she saw Ji Qingfan suddenly look up and glance in her direction. Sheng Zhi instinctively spun around.
She felt guilty, especially since she had just told Ji Qingfan to back off, and now she was secretly following her. She felt like she couldn’t save face.
After turning around, Sheng Zhi pretended to admire the flowers displayed in the restaurant. After admiring them for a while, she realized she was wearing a mask and hat, so she turned back.
But when she turned back, she realized Ji Qingfan was gone.
Strange.
Where did she go in such a short time?
Did Ji Qingfan see her or not?
Sheng Zhi lowered the brim of her hat and took a few steps, pretending to be nonchalant while searching with her peripheral vision. The next second, she felt the brim of her hat being tapped, followed by a lightness on her head.
Ji Qingfan was holding her hat, her enchanting gaze pausing as it moved from the hat to Sheng Zhi’s face. As if surprised to see her there, she asked softly, “Zhi Zhi?”
With her hat removed, Sheng Zhi looked at Ji Qingfan standing before her, her ears turning red.
Since she had been discovered anyway, she met Ji Qingfan’s gaze and spoke, imagining she sounded fierce: “Yes, what’s wrong? Are you surprised to see me?”
Once she started, it was easier to continue. She looked at Gu Shi, who was walking towards them, and sneered repeatedly: “Ji Qingfan, you have the nerve to tell me what to do, yet you’re happily chatting with other women yourself?”
Gu Shi walked up just in time to hear this. She looked at Ji Qingfan, then at Sheng Zhi, and spoke with difficulty, trying to explain: “Miss Sheng, it’s not what you think…”
But before she could finish, Sheng Zhi cut her off again.
After a few sentences, and with more and more people looking their way, Gu Shi sighed. She didn’t reply to Sheng Zhi but instead apologized to Ji Qingfan: “I think we should discuss our cooperation once you have resolved your personal matters, President Ji.”
Even with her temper flaring, Sheng Zhi realized at this point that things were probably not as she had thought.
Her previously arrogant attitude was instantly dampened.
She watched Gu Shi walk away, her cheeks burning.
…Damn, it looked like she got it wrong.
She was speechless. Eventually, Ji Qingfan was the one who broke the silence.
Ji Qingfan couldn’t help but look down and laugh lightly, which instantly made Sheng Zhi blush even harder.
Seeing this, Ji Qingfan smiled with the corners of her eyes. She reached out and rubbed Sheng Zhi’s bright red ear, speaking softly, as if the postponed cooperation meant nothing.
“The person I was having dinner with is gone. As compensation, how about Zhi Zhi honors me by having dinner with me?”
Sheng Zhi was genuinely ashamed and embarrassed at this moment, practically wishing she could burrow into the ground. She didn’t want to face Ji Qingfan, and naturally, she didn’t see the exchange of messages that followed:
Gu Shi:
Gu Shi:
“Was that cooperation very important?”
Sheng Zhi looked at Ji Qingfan sitting opposite her, clutching her cup, and felt a rare sense of guilt.
Ji Qingfan nodded at the question. Her hands didn’t stop as she used a tool to pick out crab meat and placed it into Sheng Zhi’s bowl: “It was quite important.”
Sheng Zhi bit her lip, poking the crab meat with her chopsticks.
She knew she had messed things up, but she would never bring herself to apologize to Ji Qingfan.
Besides, she didn’t want to apologize to Ji Qingfan. Her only concern was that Ji Qingfan might tell her mother. After all, the matters Ji Qingfan handled were on behalf of their family’s company. Ms. Sheng Xiyi had already planned to place her in the company, and she had only been stalling. If Ms. Sheng Xiyi found out about this, she would surely think Sheng Zhi was unreliable and conclude that she couldn’t be allowed to play around anymore, possibly forcing her to start working at the company immediately.
…Forget it! If it’s messed up, it’s messed up!
Sheng Zhi looked up at Ji Qingfan in self-defeat and threatened: “You can’t tell Mom about this. If you dare to say anything, I’ll…”
“You’ll what?” Ji Qingfan looked at her with a gentle smile.
Sheng Zhi was so exasperated that the corners of her eyes were pink: “Anyway, you can’t tell her.”
“But,” Ji Qingfan reached out a finger and touched her own lips, her eyelashes slightly lowered, “if Zhi Zhi doesn’t want me to tell, shouldn’t you give me some reward in advance as a silencing fee?”
