Conquering The Love Rival Alpha - Chapter 4
Feng Qingyu slept with her head buried under the covers until midnight, then suddenly woke with a start.
“What? What task? What grandmother and granddaughter? What wish? What first step?!”
It had been a nightmare, right? She raised a hand and wiped her forehead. In disbelief, she rubbed her fingers together and discovered her hand was covered in sweat. Turning to the side, she switched on the bedside lamp.
The warm yellow light carved out a small patch of territory beside the bed. She sat on the edge and let out a long breath, pulled out a tissue, wiped herself a few times, then looked at the bed beneath her in confusion.
If she remembered correctly, she had been sitting on the sofa in the living room. How had she gotten upstairs?
She frowned and thought for a while. Remembering Xia Lu’s voice, as well as the faint mint scent on Xiong Jie, Feng Qingyu rubbed her stomach, which had gone flat from hunger, got up, rinsed her mouth, and washed her face. Between eating and not eating, she brushed her teeth instead.
It was already past one. Summer mornings came early. She could endure it a little longer and wait for breakfast.
A sleepless night was harder to bear than she had imagined. After lying down for only a short while, she got up and walked to the desk. From the side drawer cabinet, she dug out a set of unfinished test papers, pulled out the chair, and sat down.
After working through an entire set of papers, Feng Qingyu discovered that the high school knowledge points here were not very different from the ones in her memory. She felt a little more reassured about the school-opening exam Xiang Chen and Xiang Wan had mentioned. She figured that if she looked through the biology textbook a bit more and memorized the few formulas that did not exist in her original world, there should not be much of a problem.
She pulled out the biology workbook. Looking at the Alpha and Omega in the question, she suddenly froze. The previously vague voice in her mind became incomparably clear.
“Congratulations! The system has officially activated and bound itself! According to the reward mechanism set by this system, after you and your grandmother successfully complete the tasks, this system will reward each of you with one wish!”
“After you and your grandmother successfully complete the tasks, it will reward each of you with one wish! You two? Each of us?” The pen in Feng Qingyu’s hand fell onto the exercise book with a clack, rolled along the curve of the paper, dropped to the floor, and sank into the soft carpet.
Did those words mean Grandma had come too? That she was also here!
Not only was she here, but they were very close to each other!
Otherwise, the system would not have said “you and your grandmother” and emphasized that each of them would get one wish!
It had to be like that!
Then where was Grandma? Which one was Grandma?
“System? System? Wanxing? Can you give me another hint? Can you say one more sentence?”
“I’m begging you, I’m begging you!”
In the room lit by two desk lamps, Feng Qingyu pressed her hands together and knocked her head against the floor.
Yet the night was so quiet that only the changed rhythm of her breathing could be heard. The system ignored her.
Instead, a line of words in a familiar format appeared before her dizzy eyes.
[To obtain the first step of the task, please have the grandmother and granddaughter first confirm each other’s identities.]
Feng Qingyu’s body went weak, and she collapsed forward onto the floor.
This goddamn system. Could it say something useful or not?
After once again accepting the fact that the system was not human and had no human warmth, Feng Qingyu climbed up from the floor, circled the bed looking for her phone, stared aimlessly at it for a while, then sat back down at the desk, pulled out a fresh sheet of draft paper, and began listing the name of every person she had seen these past days.
Halfway through writing, she suddenly realized that doing this was completely meaningless. Because she believed that as long as Grandma had appeared and seen her, Grandma would definitely recognize her. Even if she had grown ten centimeters taller.
All right. The process of elimination had taken effect—Grandma should be among the people who had some connection to her but had not yet had time to appear.
Fine. In that case, she would honestly wait for school to start.
With a rumble, the sound of her intestines moving and wailing seemed to have been fitted with a loudspeaker in the silent night, making her whole body uncomfortable.
She was so hungry!
That morning, the adolescent, still-developing Alpha who was so hungry she wanted to eat people finished two plates of steamed buns, one large bowl of shrimp and vegetable congee, three beef-stuffed pancakes, and the thin-skinned shumai left on Madam Xia Lu’s plate in one breath.
Feng Chongan and Xia Lu, who had not yet rushed off to the company for a meeting, were stunned.
Now full, Feng Qingyu let out a comfortable breath. Noticing Feng Chongan looking at her as if he wanted to say something but stopped himself, she called out to him blankly, “Dad? What’s wrong?”
“You…” Feng Chongan blinked. Realizing that the person sitting opposite him was his daughter, he hurriedly shook his head. “Nothing. I’m fine.”
However, the moment his daughter left, he looked pitifully toward his wife on the other side. “That shumai was mine. In the past, whenever you had leftovers, I was the one who ate them.”
“Tsk.” Xia Lu stopped his accusation with a look and scolded him in a low voice, “Why are you fussing with your own daughter? If you’re not full, just ask the helper to bring you more.”
Feng Chongan: “…”
Feng Qingyu, who had eaten until she was stuffed, did not notice Feng Chongan’s grievances and resentment at all. After returning to her room, she sat on the sofa by the window, held her phone in one hand, and began going through the information of the Omega classmates she had previously eliminated to save time.
Compared with Alphas, there were far fewer Omegas in the class. Men and women combined, there were only eighteen. She casually glanced through the boys and finished in two or three minutes. Then she looked more carefully through the remaining girls, and five minutes was enough.
After browsing through the account information of everyone in the class, she put down her phone and stared at the patches of light on the floor in a daze for a while. Then she picked her phone back up, opened the group member list, and began choosing among the accounts without remarks, finally selecting the one that looked most like Xun Zhou’s.
The nickname was the letter X. The profile picture was dark and gloomy, and only after tapping it open could she see a little star in the lower-left corner. It looked very much like a casually taken photo.
Hmph.
Remembering Xun Zhou’s appearance yesterday morning, Feng Qingyu let out a snort of laughter and softly repeated, “Eye-raping.”
Ha. So what she had been looking at back then was Xun Zhou’s personal information. Hahaha.
How interesting.
She was like a giant pufferfish. With just a little provocation, she puffed up angrily. So easy to annoy.
One pufferfish, one firecracker, and one smiling tiger. Just imagining her future school days already made them seem incredibly exciting!
It was something she had never experienced before.
She was looking forward to it!
The remaining few days of vacation flew by amid Feng Qingyu’s anticipation. In the blink of an eye, she changed into the black-and-white school uniform, carried an empty backpack, and appeared across from the imposing school gate.
It was just a high school, yet it was built even more impressively than the university she had attended.
So this was the kind of school rich people went to? Well, she had broadened her horizons again.
As Feng Qingyu thought this, she looked left and right. She discovered that uniformed people were standing on both sides of the road directing traffic. On the stretch of road directly in front of the school gate, aside from students and parents walking in twos and threes, there were no moving vehicles at all.
All right. This school had thought things through.
No need to specially step on the crosswalk.
With complete confidence, Feng Qingyu boldly crossed the road. She even had the spare attention to wonder how she was supposed to find her classroom after going inside.
She did not notice at all that, several meters away to her right, a petite girl was staring at her with tears streaming down her face.
So when someone suddenly pounced over and hugged her, her first stunned reaction was that someone had crashed into her.
Until she heard that trembling voice, with a strangely familiar tone.
“Yu’er, is it Yu’er? Are you Yu’er?”
Feng Qingyu’s throat seemed to be seized by an invisible hand. Her movements stiff, she slowly lowered her head and looked at the little girl stuck to her body, wearing the same school uniform, crying so hard that her eyes, nose, and brows were all red.
A little girl who was definitely not even 1.6 meters tall, yet had developed quite nicely.
“Are you Qingyu? Ah?” the little girl was still asking.
Feng Qingyu, whose words had truly come true, realized that this was the grandmother she had been searching for. Like a robot, she nodded straight down once. From her squeezed throat, after a long while, came the call that crossed two worlds.
“Grand… ma?”
“Ai! Ai—yes, it’s me. I’m Grandma, wuwuwu…”
She had imagined that Grandma’s appearance would be somewhat different, but for it to differ this much was truly impossible to predict.
Numb all over, Feng Qingyu felt as if she had been struck by lightning. Speaking and raising her hand both took effort, and her mind could not turn the corner for a long time. She was completely unable to imagine that in the very next instant, the system would strike down a second bolt of lightning and thoroughly scorch her inside and out.
That dog system called Wanxing played dead when it wanted and resurrected when it wanted. Hiding in her ear, it started talking nonsense as soon as it decided to speak.
“Congratulations to the grandmother and granddaughter on successfully reuniting! You have unlocked each other’s identities! Next, please help each other, support each other, and work together to complete the tasks!”
[The specific task content will be announced in one hour and fifty-nine minutes. Please look forward to it.]
Look forward to it, my ass!
The nonhuman voice faded away, and the surrounding sounds squeezed back into her ears.
The wind, the birds, the gossiping voices—every sound entered her ears.
“Hey? Isn’t that Feng Qingyu? Who is she hugging?”
“I didn’t see clearly. That girl looks like she’s crying? What’s going on?”
“You two just got here, right? Heh, I came early. I saw it.”
“Hm? You saw it? Who’s that Omega?”
“Let me say the ugly words first. I don’t dare guarantee anything. I can only give you a reference, okay?”
“Tch, do you actually know who it is or not?”
“All right, from her side profile, she looks like Meng Qingying, the one who just came up from the junior high section.”
“Meng Qingying? You mean that little Omega who ran over to our high school section three meals a day last year to look for Xun Zhou?”
“Huh? No way, right? Sh-she-she-she transferred her affections?”
“Wow! She changed fast enough!”
“Chi. What do you know? Kids these days…”
…
“Ah! Isn’t that Qingyu? What’s she doing?” A familiar voice covered that string of muttered gossip and quickly approached the two of them. “Qingyu, who’s in your arms? Let me see!”
As Xiang Chen, the one with the little black mole by her earlobe, spoke, she grabbed Feng Qingyu’s shoulder and pulled it over, bending down to look at the sobbing little Omega. “Whoa! She’s a junior, right? A first-year?”
Xiang Wan, who followed behind, rolled her eyes speechlessly at the sky and dragged back this lunatic of an older sister. “Can you act normal? If you scare her, are you going to take responsibility?”
“What kind of thing is that to say? How did I scare her?” Xiang Chen shook off that unnecessary hand and frowned as she looked back and forth between the two people in front of her. “Qingyu, why is this little schoolmate crying? Did you bully her?”
Xiang Wan: “…”
Sharing a face with someone like this was truly embarrassing!
“…” Feng Qingyu felt more and more gazes landing on them. Subconsciously, she turned sideways and shielded the person behind her. Noticing the change in Xiang Wan’s eyes, she smiled awkwardly and explained, “No. She accidentally crashed into me just now. Maybe it hurt.”
“She crashed into you? No wonder her nose is so red.” Xiang Chen, who had just straightened, bent down again. “Little schoolmate, are you okay? Do you want to go to the infirmary and take a look? Let the school doctor check you. Don’t let it be fractured.”
Compared with Alphas, Omega bones were so fragile they were no different from potato chips. Xiang Wan’s expression also grew a bit more serious. “That’s right. Go get checked. Anyway, today is only registration. There’s no rush to start class.”
The school notice said to arrive at ten o’clock. It was still early, so there was more than enough time to make a trip to the infirmary.
Feng Qingyu swept a glance around them. Her heart was as messy as a cave full of tangled spider silk. She simply gave up trying to salvage the situation. “Fine. I’ll take her over.”
“Good!” Xiang Chen raised a hand in support. Xiang Wan pursed her lips and reached out, pointing toward the front left. “The infirmary is over there. If you’re not back in the classroom by nine-fifty, I’ll go look for you.”
Xiang Chen instantly followed, “I’ll go too.”
“Okay.” Before leaving, Feng Qingyu took a deep look at the pair of sisters in front of her. The judgment she had previously denied in her heart slowly floated back up.
There was no mistake.
Xiang Wan was indeed a little more reliable than Xiang Chen.
