Daily Life Of A Socially Anxious Scumbag Alpha Raising Flowers - Chapter 15
Just as Wen Xin wished, the kind and considerate Dong Xun stopped bustling around.
She agreed to watch a movie with her.
Wen Xin had found the movie online the day before. But for convenience’s sake, she had simply picked a few at random from a collection of highly rated films online, so she herself did not know what the movie was actually about.
“You can’t tell what genre it is just from the title… Forget it, whatever. With ratings this high, it probably can’t be that bad.”
From the long string of movie titles she had written down, Wen Xin randomly chose one and projected it. Then she immediately returned to her spot and sat down, full of anticipation.
She had never watched a movie from this world before, so of course she was curious.
The movie was projected onto the simple white wall. The curtains in the small bedroom were tightly drawn, and the room was very dark. Only the wall where the projection flickered gave off a faint glow. The atmosphere was in place.
Wen Xin had spread a fluffy carpet and blanket on the floor. Soft, puffy pillows were piled together, making it very comfortable to lean against them. She had even made some little snacks in advance, so their mouths would not feel bored while watching the movie.
“You haven’t watched this movie before, right?”
After the movie officially started playing, Wen Xin was still a little worried, so she asked Dong Xun once more.
“No,” Dong Xun answered.
She did not have the habit of watching movies, nor did she have the time to watch them.
“Good. Then let’s start watching.”
The movie slowly unfolded. At the beginning, the story told of the Alpha protagonist’s childhood.
The protagonist had a tragic background and had lived in the slums since childhood. Although poor, she had a happy family and loved ones who cherished her. The young protagonist never felt sad because she could not eat her fill, could not dress warmly, or suffered other people’s contempt.
Until a sudden accident happened. Her Alpha mother unfortunately died in an accident at work, and her frail Omega mom’s condition worsened because of it.
Help…
You are not allowed to stab me with a family-love knife.
When the plot reached the scene where the protagonist’s Omega mom was at the end of her life and on the brink of death, Wen Xin could not help crying just like the protagonist in the movie. Her eyes filled with tears, turning red as she began to sob quietly.
Dong Xun silently handed her a tissue.
After wiping her tears, Wen Xin spoke with a nasal voice. “Wuwu… the protagonist is so pitiful.”
In truth, she missed her own mother too. But in this world where she had no sense of belonging at all, she could not even speak her longing aloud.
Dong Xun, however, did not feel much in her heart.
She could not understand that kind of affection between the protagonist and her family.
Just like if she died, her family would only feel that one insignificant person was gone.
If her family died, she would not feel anything either.
In truth, the movie’s plot was very boring. It felt deliberately designed to create tragedy.
Dong Xun’s attention had already unconsciously drifted to Wen Xin beside her. Through the dim light in the room, she could clearly see the sparkling traces left on Wen Xin’s face.
Wen Xin could actually cry…
An Alpha could actually cry so openly in front of her, without the slightest concern.
Dong Xun could not help feeling startled.
One had to know that Alphas viewed their dignity and pride as something as important as life. They never allowed themselves to shed tears easily, because tears represented cowardice.
Strong Alphas do not need tears—this sentence was even written into textbooks.
When she was little and in class, Dong Xun still clearly remembered that all their teachers had been Alphas and Betas. Not a single one had been an Omega. In the texts the teachers taught, the qualities people were supposed to possess were very clearly aimed at Alphas.
As for Omegas, they did not need to be strong, resilient, brave…
Omegas were naturally allowed to be weak, because they were ruled by pheromones and were born needing to depend on Alphas to exist.
But didn’t Alphas also need Omega pheromones in order to get through their sensitive periods? Little Dong Xun had once been puzzled by this question, but she had never asked anyone.
She only quietly observed, then thought about the answer.
She had thought about it for many years and still could not understand.
It was a painful question, and she herself was deeply trapped within that proposition.
Because she was predetermined to differentiate into a low-rank Omega, and because there was no unknown potential left in her, from the very beginning, her mother had held no expectations for her.
Her mother did not dislike her because she had done something wrong. It was because she herself had no investment value.
Just giving her food and raising her to adulthood was already responsible enough.
Most families were like this. They usually prioritized investing in children with high genetic ranks or greater potential.
Later, after she reached the right age, she had no choice but to participate in compulsory genetic matching, and then marry. As repayment for having been raised by her family until now, it was finally time for her to fulfill her obligation to the family.
How tragic.
She clearly looked like a person, but in truth, she was not. She was more like a commodity waiting to be sold for the best price.
In the past, whenever she thought about these questions, Dong Xun would always feel a headache. Not the physiological kind of pain, but a pain that sank deep into the nerves inside her brain. That pain would spread all the way to her eyes, to the tips of her fingers. It hurt so much that she wanted to find something and crash into it hard. Even bodily pain would be better than that feeling of being haunted by something like a bone-deep disease.
But at this moment, as she thought about this question, Dong Xun only felt that her mind was strangely clear. For the first time, she forgot the feeling of that pain. All her attention was focused on Wen Xin’s tears.
An emotion she could not describe quietly grew in her heart.
Wen Xin had become unlike an Alpha.
She seemed to live outside the rules, freely and according to her own heart.
In the dim environment, the gleam of tears looked especially striking, like gemstones adorning the corners of Wen Xin’s eyes. It was like, in a silent world, a person on the ground suddenly looking up and seeing the only star in the night sky, full of wonder.
Wen Xin seemed to be mumbling something about the plot.
Dong Xun did not hear a single word. She only noticed Wen Xin blowing her nose in front of her with no care for her image. Her delicate, small nose was mercilessly rubbed hard with a tissue, becoming slightly red.
As she cried, she mumbled in a blurred, softened voice, scolding the supporting character in the movie who coldly bullied the protagonist. But even then, she only cursed them with no attacking power at all, saying that person had gone too far.
When she cried, her mouth would press into a downward curve. Her brows and even her chin would wrinkle together, and her eyes were filled with damp mist, like the spring wind, like a sudden rain blowing past…
She was clearly crying, yet Dong Xun could not see a single trace of fragility on her.
She clearly did not act in a way that matched this society’s respected requirements for Alphas at all, such as rationality, confidence, strength…
And yet Dong Xun felt that she was… cute.
Cute.
This slightly unfamiliar word, one she had never used in her own life, took concrete form for the first time.
Wen Xin…
What kind of person was she, exactly?
Inside Dong Xun’s heart, a strong curiosity quietly grew, one even she herself did not notice.
…
Halfway through the movie, the plot quickly reached the part after the protagonist had grown up.
The story became cliché, turning into a workplace romance where one pursued and the other fled.
A love story that was neither pure enough nor melodramatic enough could not attract Wen Xin, and she grew a little unable to keep watching.
But she quietly glanced at Dong Xun and discovered that Dong Xun was staring straight ahead, watching very seriously.
Wen Xin was very gratified.
She thought Dong Xun had finally, rarely, found something she liked.
She decided that no matter what, she would force herself to hold on and accompany Dong Xun through the rest of this movie.
So she rallied her spirit and focused her attention on the plot. Even if it was bad, that way, she could still complain about the plot together with Dong Xun later.
Wen Xin’s plan was very good. Unfortunately, the will was there, but the strength was lacking. Perhaps because crying earlier had used up some of her energy, her attention now simply could not concentrate. Watching the shifting light in front of her, her eyelids soon began to grow heavy.
It took less than three minutes for Wen Xin to watch herself to sleep.
The pillow she was leaning against was right next to Dong Xun’s. Because the space itself was small, only a tiny gap separated the two of them. After falling asleep, Wen Xin’s body suddenly relaxed and stretched out. The legs she had originally tucked in naturally pressed against Dong Xun’s legs.
She was wearing a nightdress.
Dong Xun could immediately feel another temperature completely different from her own cold skin.
Warm, soft, smooth.
Pressed against a certain patch of skin on her leg.
It itched.
Yet someone did not stop there. Instead, she grew even more insatiable.
Drawn by pheromone instinct, Wen Xin’s habit of liking to hug things in her sleep returned. She instinctively leaned in Dong Xun’s direction, unconsciously moving closer and closer in her drowsiness.
So fragrant…
The tip of her nose was filled with the comfortable scent of cold fir.
Wen Xin leaned against Dong Xun’s shoulder.
Dong Xun’s body went wooden, not daring to move. She foolishly maintained that posture.
But the person on her seemed to dislike the protruding bones of her shoulder for being too hard, and like liquid, found a softer place by herself.
In the dim, hidden room, the noise from the movie sounded intermittently.
Without that sneaky gaze from beside her secretly observing, Dong Xun no longer deliberately pretended to be absorbed by the movie. Her gaze locked on Wen Xin without any restraint.
Borrowing the flickering light, bright one moment and dim the next, she quietly traced every feature on Wen Xin’s face.
With an exploring, curious gaze.
