Eldest Senior Sister Goes Down The Mountain To Become An Idol - Chapter 4
The instant the bucket hat was blown off, Gu Yueyue immediately turned her head away. Xiao Ye’s reaction was not slow either; she stepped directly in front of her and blocked her from view.
Xu Yi looked at the startled, jumpy way they were acting in front of her and found it inexplicable.
After Gu Yueyue quickly put her mask back on, she tugged at Xiao Ye’s sleeve. The two of them tilted their heads together and whispered softly, “Let’s hurry back. It’s too dangerous outside.” “Mm, okay.”
Although their voices were very low, so low that ordinary humans should not have been able to hear them, unfortunately, the divine sense inside Xu Yi’s body was only one step away from ascending into godhood. How could she possibly fail to hear such quiet whispers?
Neither of them said goodbye to her before hurriedly leaving.
“Ah. You two…” Xu Yi did not know what they were called and only looked at the hat blown down by the wind, wanting to remind them. As a result, the moment those two heard her voice, they ran even faster.
Xu Yi helplessly walked over and picked up the hat. It still looked brand-new. Dragging her suitcase, she followed after those two, wanting to return it to them.
But the residential complex was full of high-rise buildings. Every building looked similar, and every floor looked alike. After circling around once, Xu Yi realized she had lost them.
Holding the hat, she returned to the bench. The sky had already darkened. The streetlights here were not completely broken. Under the night curtain, their faulty wiring made them flicker on and off, creating quite the frightening atmosphere of a horror movie just before ghosts and monsters appeared.
Fortunately, her roommate did not make her wait too long. Xu Yi had only sat down for about two quarters of an hour when her roommate called.
It was a young girl. Her tone was light and lively, sounding as if she were in a very good mood.
“Hello, is this Xu Yi? I’m He Xiaojing. The production crew finished early today, so I came straight back. I’m already inside the neighborhood. Where are you?”
Xu Yi looked around and answered, “Miss He, I’m beside a pool.”
“A pool? Oh, the fountain by the east gate, right? Wait for me a moment. I’ll pick up a delivery on the way and come get you.”
The call ended. A little over ten minutes later, a small blue electric scooter slowly drove over. The scooter braked sharply and stopped in front of Xu Yi.
Sitting on it was a young girl. She took off the matching blue helmet, shook out her clean, neat short hair that had been dampened by sweat, and brushed her bangs away from her forehead.
After tidying herself up a little, she fixed her gaze on Xu Yi. At that exact moment, for some unknown reason, the broken streetlight suddenly stayed lit.
The tall girl with a stunning face stood under the white incandescent light. He Xiaojing stared in a daze and asked in disbelief, “Are… are, are you Xu Yi?”
“Mm. Hello, Miss He. I’m Xu Yi, the one who arranged to share the apartment with you.”
“Holy shit!” He Xiaojing blurted out a fragrant exclamation. “I actually rented the place to a gorgeous mature beauty! Are you really only eighteen? Holy shit, I’m not saying you look old. I mean, your aura, your presence—holy shit. I’m uncultured, but you’re way too queenly, aren’t you?”
“Mm. Do you want to see my ID?” After Xu Yi finished speaking, she took her ID card out of her pocket and handed it to her.
He Xiaojing glanced at it, then let out another string of fragrant exclamations. “Your ID photo looks like a beautified close-up. How did you even do that?”
She got off the little electric scooter. The scooter was too small, and with her two delivery boxes added on, there was no room left for Xu Yi’s luggage, much less any way to bring Xu Yi back on it.
So she simply got off and pushed the scooter, leading Xu Yi back with her on foot.
Through their conversation along the way, Xu Yi finally learned He Xiaojing’s identity.
He Xiaojing was twenty-two this year. After graduating from university, she had not found a proper, serious job as her parents had wanted. Instead, she had chosen to chase her dream in the entertainment industry. At present, she worked as an extra at a nearby film studio.
“I wanted to find a roommate to help share the pressure of rent. I have a lot of stuff, and when I’m at home, I also practice acting on my own, so I can be pretty noisy. That’s why you only need to pay half the rent. I’ll cover the other expenses.” He Xiaojing looked Xu Yi over. This little girl seemed even poorer than her. Her clothes had yellowed from being washed too many times, but that did not affect her extraordinary looks at all.
“Thank you.” Xu Yi accepted her kindness. The original body had no parents or relatives, and she was still a student herself. Usually, she worked part-time on weekends to support her studies. Whenever she had a slightly longer break, she would go hiking. There really was not much savings left on her.
He Xiaojing then told her about her experiences working as an extra at the film studio. The money she earned was all hard-earned cash, but the main thing was doing it for her dream!
At last, they arrived home. He Xiaojing parked the scooter, picked up the two delivery boxes, and brought Xu Yi upstairs.
“The elevator’s broken, and we’re on the fifth floor… Sorry to trouble you.” He Xiaojing smiled in embarrassment. She was carrying two delivery boxes and had no way to help.
Just before they went upstairs, He Xiaojing said, “Your suitcase must be heavy, right? How about you wait here? I’ll take the deliveries upstairs first, then come back down and carry it with you.”
Right in front of her, Xu Yi lifted the suitcase effortlessly with one hand and even casually weighed it. “It’s fine.”
“…” He Xiaojing suspected there was nothing packed inside her suitcase at all—until the two of them got home, and Xu Yi opened the suitcase in the living room right in front of her.
He Xiaojing glanced at the contents and nearly failed to stay upright. Aside from one power bank, the suitcase was actually filled entirely with books.
As someone who had only just graduated from university not long ago, of course she knew how heavy books were—let alone an entire suitcase full of them.
She had not expected that the new cool, queenly roommate she had recruited would actually be a girl with monstrous strength.
Carrying her disbelief with her, He Xiaojing burrowed into the bathroom and quickly took a combat shower. When she came out, Xu Yi had moved even faster than her. In just a little over ten minutes, she had already finished tidying her room.
It was a three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment. At first, He Xiaojing had liked peace and quiet, so she rented the whole place. Now, however, she felt she was about to become unable to afford the rent, so after a long and careful search, she had chosen a roommate.
While Xu Yi went to shower, He Xiaojing opened her delivery boxes.
By the time Xu Yi came out, He Xiaojing had already arranged everything and called Xu Yi over to take a look. Xu Yi looked at those strange, odd-looking objects and asked in confusion, “What are these?”
“Oh, I’m planning to become a streamer. These are all the equipment I bought. They emptied out my entire balance.” He Xiaojing looked pained.
“A streamer?” This body had never come into contact with these things before, so Xu Yi naturally did not know. She only vaguely knew that they were a type of person who posted videos online.
Seeing her half-understanding yet very interested appearance, He Xiaojing was happy to talk more with a pretty younger sister, so she patiently explained to her. She planned to use livestreaming to attract popularity, then slowly package and dress herself up. Maybe one day, if she was lucky, she would become popular.
“Can it earn money?” Xu Yi caught onto that point. Right now, she also needed to earn money, because she still had no means to pay her university tuition.
“Of course.” He Xiaojing knew Xu Yi’s family situation was not good and that she did not have much money on hand. She had just been about to recommend that Xu Yi try livestreaming with her, but she suddenly stopped herself. Xu Yi’s personality was too cold and indifferent. Even when speaking with others, she carried a sense of distance. Being a streamer did not seem very suitable for her.
Xu Yi did not think as much as she did. Although she was in a hurry to earn money, there was currently something even more urgent she needed to do. She had to find her Miss Gu.
He Xiaojing adjusted her livestreaming equipment, while Xu Yi silently returned to her room. Borrowing a few stones she had brought back from the mountains, which still had a faint amount of spiritual energy attached to them, Xu Yi used them to arrange a soul-searching array.
The wisp of divine soul she had extracted back then had accompanied Miss Gu through her reincarnations. Now, this body was only eighteen years old, and Miss Gu should be no more than about ten years apart in age from this body. She did not know how old Miss Gu was now.
The array was successfully formed. Xu Yi spent three or four shichen on it. When the sky was just beginning to brighten the next day, the array finally showed a few subtle changes. Xu Yi’s soul left her body and followed the guidance in search of the person.
Meanwhile, Gu Yueyue, who was on a plane, woke from a nightmare once again. She had a schedule to rush to today, filling in for an artist from the same company. The company’s last-minute notice had been very sudden, and she had not made much preparation. A little after four in the morning, she had set off with Xiao Ye.
Xiao Ye was sitting beside her, muttering nonstop as she cursed the company. Sister Yao, in particular, received Xiao Ye’s special attention; she had practically dragged out eighteen generations of the woman’s ancestors and whipped their corpses with words.
Gu Yueyue thought of the dream just now, and her face flushed slightly. She had dreamed of that woman again. Dressed in white robes as pure as snow, pointing her sword toward the world and looking down upon all living beings—did such a person truly exist? She was so lost in thought that she did not even hear what Xiao Ye said to her clearly.
“Sister, what are you thinking about? So seriously?” Xiao Ye’s tone was resentful.
“Cough. I was thinking about the little girl we met yesterday. She gave me a very familiar feeling, as if I had known her before.” Gu Yueyue gathered her thoughts and wanted to casually find an excuse to change the subject with Xiao Ye. She had not expected that the first image to surface in her mind would be the scene of meeting that girl yesterday.
“Maybe she’s your fan. It’s normal if you’ve seen her before.” Xiao Ye began getting a headache over what they should do when they got off the plane later. She did not know whether someone in the company had sold out Yueyue’s schedule, but before they left, she had checked the hidden fan groups she had infiltrated. Fans had already revealed where they were going. Even the flight had been exposed, and the hotel they were staying at had also been dug up.
“Those fans really are too much trouble. They never give anyone peace of mind. Our schedule’s been exposed again. We’re about to get off the plane soon, Sister. Hurry and tidy yourself up.” As Xiao Ye spoke to her, she looked at her pale face and could not stop her heart from aching for her. She really was getting thinner and thinner, and her mental state was not very good either.
Gu Yueyue had been frightened by stalker fans. In the past, there had also been cases where emotionally agitated fans had scared her. So when Xiao Ye mentioned that their schedule had been exposed, the already bloodless pallor of her face became even more obvious.
Xu Yi followed the array’s guidance in search of the person, but her soul drifted higher and higher. When she lowered her head to look down, she no longer knew where she was.
“…” Xu Yi had just locked onto one location, but by the time she chased after it, the array’s position changed again. Things were different now from the past. If Xu Yi’s soul remained out of her body for too long, her body would become weak. She could only give up the search and quickly return her soul to her body.
How strange. There was no spiritual energy in this world, so why would Miss Gu be moving rapidly through the air?
Xu Yi could not understand it. She was extremely confident in her array abilities, yet this was the first time she had encountered something so odd. Could it be that when Miss Gu slept, her soul had left her body?
She could not figure it out. Carrying that confusion, she came out of her room and just happened to run into He Xiaojing.
He Xiaojing was about to go out. Seeing Xu Yi come out, she was somewhat surprised. These days, there really were not many people who woke up early for no reason. “Morning.”
“Good morning, Miss He.”
Whenever He Xiaojing heard her speak, she always felt a sense of dissonance, as if they were not people from the same era. However, she was about to be late for the production crew, so she told Xu Yi where she could buy breakfast nearby, then hurriedly left with her keys.
As for Xu Yi, she needed to go out and find work.
