Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 14
After forgetting the password to wealth, Dong Yao did not have time to feel sad for too long before footsteps sounded at the entrance.
Dong Yao raised her head and looked toward the sound.
Her gaze met the person standing at the doorway.
Just like when she had seen her during the day, Gu Shiqiu wore a short white skirt. Her skin was snow-white, and her appearance was the kind that amazed people every single time they saw her.
“What a coincidence. We meet again,” Gu Shiqiu said with a faint smile as she stood at the door.
“It really is a coincidence.” In a while, it would be even more of a coincidence, because Dong Yao would spill noodle soup all over her.
Gu Shiqiu asked, “Are there still noodles to eat right now?”
Dong Yao gathered her thoughts. “Yes. What would you like? The menu is on the wall.”
Gu Shiqiu walked in and looked around the shop. There were four wooden tables, and an old electric fan was making a whirring sound. It looked a little worn-out, but it was very clean.
Gu Shiqiu sat down, raised her head, and looked at the menu on the wall. Red background, black characters. Although it looked rustic, it was clear and easy to understand.
“One bowl of shredded pork and mushroom noodles,” Gu Shiqiu said.
Dong Yao looked at her. “We’re out of that.”
Gu Shiqiu chose another. “Then pork rib noodles.”
Dong Yao looked a little embarrassed. “We’re out of that too.”
Gu Shiqiu paused, thought for a moment, and asked, “What do you still have?”
Dong Yao’s smile became even more awkward. “Well, this is a breakfast shop. At this time, there actually isn’t much left to eat. We only have egg noodles. Is that all right?”
Gu Shiqiu nodded. “That’s fine. Egg noodles, then.”
Dong Yao said, “Then please wait a moment.”
Dong Yao walked toward the kitchen. After a few steps, she looked back and found Gu Shiqiu still looking at her. Guilty, she withdrew her gaze and jogged into the kitchen.
A bowl of noodles could be finished in ten minutes, but Dong Yao dawdled, and after twenty minutes, she still had not brought the noodles over.
Afraid that the person outside would grow impatient, Dong Yao peeked out. That person was sitting perfectly upright. She had been in that posture twenty minutes ago, and twenty minutes later, she was still in that posture.
Was she practicing her sitting posture? Also, how did she manage not to play with her phone while waiting for food, especially when she was the only customer?
Unbelievable.
Just then, the person who had been sitting properly suddenly turned her head.
Their eyes met.
Dong Yao had been caught secretly peeking and hurriedly pulled her head back.
Gu Shiqiu asked, “Is it ready?”
Dong Yao shook her head. “No, it still needs a little longer.”
Dong Yao pretended to busy herself. The noodles had been ready long ago. It was just that for certain reasons, she needed to wait.
Dong Yao touched the rim of the bowl. At this temperature, it was no longer hot. If it spilled on someone, it should not burn them.
She moved her foot and rubbed the sole against the floor. The floor was not slippery. Good, as long as it was not slippery.
Dong Yao carefully picked up the bowl and cautiously took every step.
Being this careful, Dong Yao refused to believe she could still spill the noodles on Gu Shiqiu. But just in case, she had waited until the noodles were no longer hot before carrying them out.
Dong Yao brought the noodles to the table. Just as she was about to put the bowl down, she let out a breath of relief. It seemed these noodles were impossible to spill onto Gu Shiqiu.
However, Dong Yao soon fell into another layer of conflict. The original trajectory was that they would be spilled on her. If she changed the development of events so casually, would there be some bad consequence?
Dong Yao hesitated uncertainly. But in Gu Shiqiu’s eyes, Dong Yao was simply standing there with a bowl of noodles, her expression solemn.
Gu Shiqiu asked, “What’s wrong?”
Dong Yao took a deep breath and cast aside those messy thoughts. What bad consequence could there be? It was just a bowl of noodles that was originally supposed to spill but now did not. Such a tiny little matter—
Ding-dong.
Gu Shiqiu’s phone, which was on the table, rang.
The sound was not loud, but because Dong Yao had been too absorbed in thought, she was startled. Her hand shook.
The bowl that had been steady in her hands fell onto the table with a clatter.
The noodle soup flowed down the table and spilled onto Gu Shiqiu’s white skirt.
Dong Yao froze.
Gu Shiqiu hurriedly stood up.
Dong Yao came back to herself and anxiously pulled out a few tissues, intending to help Gu Shiqiu wipe it. She did not think too much about it—until as she wiped, the touch suddenly felt soft, and she realized…
Dong Yao’s hand clearly paused.
The atmosphere froze for an instant.
Dong Yao looked at her, and Gu Shiqiu looked at Dong Yao. For a moment, it was extremely awkward.
Gu Shiqiu took a step back and took the tissues from her hand. “I’ll wipe it myself.”
Dong Yao stood to the side. The sensation from just now still lingered on her hand, and her face heated up again and again.
“May I use the restroom?” Gu Shiqiu asked.
“Of course. It’s this way.” Dong Yao hurriedly led her over.
Gu Shiqiu entered the restroom and closed the door. Dong Yao stood outside and heard the sound of water from inside.
Dong Yao scratched her head in frustration, completely shutting down inside. Her original intention had been to avoid spilling noodles on Gu Shiqiu. How had she made things worse? Where had she been wiping just now? Wasn’t that basically acting like a hooligan? Would Gu Shiqiu think she had done it on purpose?
Heaven could bear witness. She truly had not done it on purpose. It had been purely accidental.
Just as Dong Yao was letting her thoughts run wild, a voice came from inside the restroom. “Are you still outside?”
Dong Yao said, “I’m here. What’s wrong?”
The restroom was quiet for a moment before Gu Shiqiu said, “The skirt is very wet. I may not be able to keep wearing it. I wonder if you have any clean clothes I could borrow.”
Dong Yao said, “I do. I’ll go find you something clean. Wait a moment.”
After saying that, Dong Yao ran into the house and rummaged through the wardrobe. Afraid that Gu Shiqiu would have to wait too long, she did not dare take too much time choosing. She grabbed a clean outfit and went back.
Dong Yao knocked on the restroom door. The door opened, and Dong Yao handed the clothes inside.
“This is new clothing, very clean. You can wear it without worrying,” Dong Yao said through the door.
The person inside replied, “All right. Thank you.”
About two minutes later, Gu Shiqiu came out. She had changed out of the short white skirt and was wearing a loose T-shirt and a pair of casual pants.
Dong Yao’s clothes were all this type, prioritizing comfort. They looked somewhat casual and unkempt when worn, but on Gu Shiqiu, they seemed as if they had been tailored specifically for her. They suited her especially well and looked especially… beautiful.
Dong Yao stared for a moment.
“I’m sorry about just now,” Dong Yao said guiltily, lowering her head. “I was already being very careful. It’s just that your phone suddenly rang, and I got startled, so… and then I… I’m sorry.”
No matter what she said, it was useless now. Dong Yao looked like a child who had done something wrong, lowering her head and apologizing honestly.
“It’s all right.” Gu Shiqiu’s voice was gentle, carrying an inexplicable sense of comfort.
“Your skirt…”
“It’s actually fine to change out of the skirt. It was quite uncomfortable to wear. The weather is hot and stuffy, and I don’t know what material the skirt is made of, but it was thick and warm.” Gu Shiqiu lowered her head and looked at the clothes she was wearing. “This is very nice. Loose and especially comfortable.”
Dong Yao looked at her and did not speak.
Gu Shiqiu skipped over the topic. “I’m a little hungry. Can I still eat noodles?”
Dong Yao said, “Of course. I’ll make you another bowl right now.”
Gu Shiqiu said, “All right.”
This time, Dong Yao did not dawdle for long. In less than ten minutes, she brought the noodles to the table. Everything went smoothly, and no accident happened again.
Gu Shiqiu lowered her head and ate the noodles. Dong Yao sat at another table, picked up her sketchbook, held a pencil, and began drawing.
She looked as though she was drawing very seriously, but in reality, all her attention was on Gu Shiqiu.
Dong Yao secretly glanced at her from time to time through the corner of her eye. Gu Shiqiu barely made any sound while eating. She was very refined. Compared with Dong Yao’s own complete lack of table manners, it was like heaven and earth.
She wondered whether Gu Shiqiu liked this bowl of noodles. Zhong Ximei happened to have gone out today for something. Otherwise, it would not have fallen to Dong Yao, an amateur helper, to cook.
The taste should be all right, right? Dong Yao was not confident.
Gu Shiqiu put down her chopsticks.
Dong Yao hurriedly withdrew her sneaking gaze and pretended to draw.
Gu Shiqiu pulled out a tissue, wiped her mouth, and then stood up.
Dong Yao pricked up her ears to listen. The sound of footsteps approached with a light tap-tap, stopping beside her. A faint fragrance drifted to the tip of her nose.
Dong Yao swallowed.
“What are you drawing?” Gu Shiqiu asked.
Dong Yao’s pencil paused. She turned her head and pretended to be surprised.
She had clearly known long ago that Gu Shiqiu was standing beside her, yet now she still had to pretend she had only just noticed.
Dong Yao’s toes curled against the floor. So embarrassing. What was she acting so affected for?
“Nothing much. Just drawing casually.” Dong Yao closed the sketchbook.
Gu Shiqiu glanced around. Her gaze landed on the payment QR code pasted on the wall. “Do I scan over there to pay?”
Dong Yao nodded. “Yes.”
“It’s six yuan, right?”
“Yes.”
Gu Shiqiu walked over and had just raised her phone to scan when her movement suddenly stopped. She turned back and said, “I suddenly remembered that there’s a problem with my phone. The camera doesn’t work. I haven’t had time to change phones yet, so I may not be able to scan this. I also didn’t bring cash.”
Dong Yao did not think much of it and understood. “It’s fine. I spilled soup on you just now anyway. I should have waived the bill to begin with. You don’t have to pay.”
Gu Shiqiu shook her head. “That’s not what I mean. I still have to pay what I should pay. Although the camera doesn’t work, I can transfer money. I’ll add your WeChat and send it to you.”
Dong Yao said, “No need. I still have to compensate you for your skirt. You don’t need to pay the six yuan.”
“I do,” Gu Shiqiu insisted.
Dong Yao hesitated. In the end, she took out her phone and opened the QR code screen. “Then scan me and add me.”
Gu Shiqiu said, “Okay.”
With a beep, the code was scanned. She tapped to add Dong Yao.
Dong Yao soon received the friend verification request. She had just prepared to tap accept when she belatedly realized that something seemed off.
“Didn’t you say your phone’s camera was broken and couldn’t scan?” Dong Yao was a little confused.
Gu Shiqiu met her puzzled gaze, calm and composed. “Yes. It’s broken.”
Dong Yao became even more confused.
Gu Shiqiu leaned closer. The faint fragrance on her body became stronger with her approach, making Dong Yao’s heart inexplicably speed up.
Gu Shiqiu reached out, her fingertip lightly touching Dong Yao’s phone screen, and tapped accept on the friend request for her.
“There. We’ve added each other.” Gu Shiqiu looked at the notification that they had successfully become friends, her brows curving.
Then she turned around and, without any attempt to hide it, scanned the payment QR code on the wall.
“WeChat payment received: six yuan,” the speaker by the cash register announced.
Gu Shiqiu said, “Paid. The noodles were delicious. I’ll come again next time. As for the clothes, I’ll return them the next time I come.”
After saying that, she walked toward the door.
Dong Yao subconsciously chased after her.
Gu Shiqiu heard the movement and turned back, smiling as she asked, “Is there something else?”
Dong Yao shook her head. “No.”
Gu Shiqiu raised her brows. “Then, see you next time.”
Dong Yao paused for a moment, then replied, “See you next time.”
Gu Shiqiu laughed softly. Her smile was beautiful, and her laugh was pleasant to hear.
Dong Yao’s heartbeat could not help speeding up again.
