Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 2
This was way too much like something a model student would do. Even her dreams were this conservative. Dong Yao could not help complaining inwardly.
Dong Yao wanted to get out of bed. She braced her hands against the mattress and tried to sit up, but her waist went weak, and she fell back down.
She tried a second time and fell back down again.
She could not get up. Her waist hurt too much…
Wait!?
Weren’t dreams not supposed to hurt? Why did her waist hurt???
Before she could figure out what was going on, the door creaked open.
The person at the doorway had long black hair loose around her shoulders. She was wearing only a white shirt, the collar slightly open, her long legs half exposed, faintly visible.
Dong Yao’s gaze stuck to her, and for a moment, she could not look away.
“Why aren’t you up yet? I’ve already warmed the milk.” Gu Shiqiu’s cheeks puffed slightly. “If you still don’t get up, I’m going to get angry.”
Dong Yao’s expression went blank. What was going on? This dream was way too real.
Dong Yao said, “Gu Shiqiu?”
Gu Shiqiu hummed in response. “Are you still not awake?”
Dong Yao’s brain spun rapidly, but after spinning for a while, it successfully turned into a complete mess.
Could it be that while she was watching TV, she had somehow transmigrated into the drama? No way, right?
Impossible, impossible. Dong Yao shook her head, feeling that the idea was absurd.
Gu Shiqiu’s beautiful brows furrowed. She quickly walked over, sat by the bed, and reached out to feel Dong Yao’s forehead. Worried, she asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
The hand on her forehead was slightly cool, and Dong Yao instinctively dodged.
Gu Shiqiu’s hand missed. She froze for a moment, then withdrew her hand and said, “If you’re not feeling unwell, then you must be angry. I’m sorry. Last night, I shouldn’t have been so careless and rough. All right, don’t be mad. Next time, if you cry, I’ll definitely stop. I promise, okay?”
Dong Yao looked utterly confused. What was she talking about?
Just then, a low voice called in her ear, “Little Yao, Little Yao, Little Yao…”
The voice came from far away, growing closer and clearer with each call. And the clearer the voice became, the blurrier Gu Shiqiu, who was sitting beside her, became.
Until Gu Shiqiu vanished completely.
Replacing her was the familiar little noodle shop.
The old electric fan was still whirring. Advertisements were playing on the television. The rain outside had stopped.
“Little Yao, come carry the dishes,” Zhong Ximei called from the kitchen.
Dong Yao sat up straight and shook her head, waking herself from her sleepiness. “Coming.”
Aside from the stewed beef, Zhong Ximei had stir-fried two other dishes. There were only the two of them at home, so they could not eat much. With soup and a few home-style dishes to go with rice, it was enough.
Dong Yao looked at the food on the table and inhaled deeply. “They’re all my favorites.”
Zhong Ximei said, “You don’t look like a girl at all. When you get married in the future, don’t act like this at your in-laws’ place.”
Dong Yao stuck out her tongue. “I’m not getting married. I’m determined to become an old maid. When the time comes, I’ll stay at home every day and torment you.”
Zhong Ximei reached out to slap her head, but Dong Yao nimbly dodged it and swayed left and right smugly.
Zhong Ximei said, “Sit properly. You have no manners at all. Eat.”
Dong Yao sat up straight and gave an improper salute. “Received!”
Zhong Ximei wanted to get angry, but unsurprisingly, Dong Yao made her laugh again.
Dong Yao glanced at the television. The advertisements had ended, and the second episode of the drama had started playing. She stared at Gu Shiqiu on the screen, lost in thought.
Had she just slept through an entire episode of the drama? That dream had been so real. It was honestly a little scary. If that dream had gone on any longer, Dong Yao would have started thinking it was not a dream.
Fortunately, it was only a dream.
Dong Yao felt a little relieved. If she had really transmigrated into the drama, she would definitely be done for. The drama had only aired one episode, and she knew absolutely nothing about the plot.
“Eat properly. Watch TV after you finish eating.” Zhong Ximei taught her with a stern face.
Dong Yao pulled her thoughts back. “Mom, you’re so fierce. Be careful, I might enter my rebellious phase.”
“You’re already twenty-three or twenty-four, and you still talk about a rebellious phase.” Zhong Ximei’s words were full of disdain, but her chopsticks picked up the biggest piece of meat and placed it in Dong Yao’s bowl.
Dong Yao lifted her chin. “Mom, that actress on TV—is she pretty?”
Zhong Ximei turned her head to look, then nodded. “Pretty. Very good-looking.”
Dong Yao raised her brows and asked confidently, “Is she prettier, or is your precious daughter prettier?”
Zhong Ximei looked at the person on TV. She was fair and clean, with gentle features. Beautiful, yet without any aggressive edge. She had the kind of appearance that children and elders alike would like.
After looking at the person on TV, Zhong Ximei looked again at the person in front of her. A simple ponytail, a loose T-shirt, no makeup, delicate and clean, like a high school student who was still studying. Her face had a youthful look.
“Of course she’s prettier,” Zhong Ximei answered without hesitation.
Dong Yao said, “What? I’m your daughter.”
Zhong Ximei picked up the remote control and turned off the TV. “That still isn’t a reason for you to overestimate yourself.”
Dong Yao pouted. “I’m unhappy now.”
Zhong Ximei said, “You’re pretty, you’re pretty. Goodness, every single day with you…”
The noodle shop had to open early in the morning, so the night before, they had to prepare the ingredients needed for the next day. The mother and daughter worked together and were busy until after ten before they could rest.
After washing up, it was already eleven. Dong Yao did not lie down. Instead, she sat at her desk, turned on her computer, and edited the video she had not finished editing earlier.
This was also part of her work.
She painted almost every day, mainly as a hobby. She had created an account and uploaded painting-related videos every once in a while. She did not show her face, and she did not have that many followers, but her videos were well-made and carefully done, so the traffic was decent. Occasionally, she accepted advertisements, and the monetized income was fairly good.
After she finished editing the video, she stretched and yawned. It was already midnight.
Before going to sleep, Dong Yao thought back to the dream she had had at dusk. It was hazy and unclear, and she could not remember most of the details. She only remembered Gu Shiqiu’s sentence:
“Next time, if you cry, I’ll definitely stop.”
Dong Yao opened her eyes. Half her sleepiness vanished, and her mind was filled with question marks. What exactly did that dream mean?
If you said it was an erotic dream, it had directly faded to black. If you said it was not an erotic dream, then it was still strange. And the other person had been a woman.
Was she under too much stress lately?
Forget it, forget it. Sleep, sleep. Dong Yao closed her eyes again and forced herself not to think nonsense anymore.
She had no dreams that night.
She woke at half past four to get ready to open the shop. Although Fuqian Town was backward and sparsely populated, there was only one noodle shop in the entire town, so business was naturally good. Sometimes, when things got busy, both of them would be completely overwhelmed.
This little noodle shop could not make big money, but it was more than enough to support the family.
“One bowl of pulled noodles,” an uncle shouted toward the kitchen.
Dong Yao answered, “Half-cooked noodles, no spice, no cilantro, right?”
The uncle laughed heartily. “Yes, yes. Same as usual. I just love that half-cooked taste.”
An auntie beside him laughed and said, “I say, Li Da, doesn’t eating undercooked noodles bother your stomach? And noodles without cilantro or chili—how do you even eat that?”
Li Da glanced at the peeled garlic on the auntie’s table. “Isn’t that thing spicy? And you eat one clove after another.”
“You don’t understand enjoyment. Eating noodles without garlic cuts the flavor in half.”
The noodle shop in the early morning was especially lively. The whole room was full of familiar faces. Everyone sat together and chatted about everyday things. A bowl of noodles could take more than half an hour to finish.
Li Da patted his belly. “I’m full. I’m off.”
Dong Yao poked her head out from the window. “Goodbye, Uncle Li.”
They stayed busy until eleven at noon before the shop finally emptied out. Dong Yao stretched her arms and leaned against the stove, exhausted.
“Tired?” Zhong Ximei asked.
Dong Yao nodded. “Tired. I have to eat something delicious today, or this laborer is going on strike.”
Zhong Ximei said, “If you’re tired, why won’t you leave? Is a big city not good? You insist on staying with your mom and doing hard labor in this little noodle shop.”
“Mom, why are you bringing this up again? I’m just a mama’s girl. I don’t want to leave.”
Zhong Ximei chuckled. “Don’t say that outside. Mama’s girls and mama’s boys aren’t popular. If you really can’t get married, I’ll worry until all my hair falls out.”
“I’m still so young. Why do you keep bringing up marriage?”
“All right, things are almost done here. I’ll wash the remaining bowls. Go rest.”
Dong Yao took an afternoon nap at noon. By the time evening came, she was yawning nonstop and, surprisingly, sleepy again.
Dong Yao turned on the TV, planning to watch a little to wake herself up. While turning it on, she glanced at the clock. It was almost six.
Pat.
It was the sound of raindrops falling on the eaves.
Dong Yao looked outside. It had been raining often lately, but the temperature had not dropped at all. The stuffiness made people uncomfortable.
Holding the remote control, she flipped through the channels, but there was nothing good to watch. In the end, she switched back to the original channel. Glancing at the preview column beside it, she saw that the drama starring Gu Shiqiu would air in a while.
Yesterday, she had more or less watched two episodes on and off. Though she had slept through one episode and eaten through another, that still barely counted as watching. In that case, she would continue watching it today.
She set down the remote control, emptied her mind, and waited for the advertisements to pass.
The advertisements were so long.
She was so sleepy…
The clock turned to six. The rain grew heavier, and the drama began on time.
Dong Yao fell asleep again.
“Is this movie that boring? You actually fell asleep.”
In her daze, she seemed to hear that gentle female voice again.
Had she dreamed of her again?
Dong Yao half-opened her eyes and raised her head slightly. What entered her sight was a smooth jawline and a snow-white neck.
She was half-leaning against Gu Shiqiu’s shoulder. When she lifted her head slightly, the distance between them was extremely close. Skin so delicate it seemed it would break with a puff of air, and those fluttering eyelashes.
Such long eyelashes. They did not look like fake lashes either. Did naturally long eyelashes like this really exist without mascara?
Dong Yao was dazed and not fully awake. She reached out and pinched those long eyelashes.
Her fingers bumped against Gu Shiqiu’s eye, and Gu Shiqiu instinctively closed her eyes.
Dong Yao sighed in amazement. They were real. Those long eyelashes were actually real!
Gu Shiqiu caught her hand and laughed softly. “If you poke my eyes like that, what will you do if you blind me?”
Dong Yao froze for a moment. Her laugh sounded so pleasant. But her hand was so cold.
“Why are your hands so cold?” Dong Yao asked.
Gu Shiqiu pinched her nose. “That’s why I need you, my little heater.”
Gu Shiqiu’s hands and feet were cold all year round, while Dong Yao was like a furnace all year round.
“Why do I keep dreaming of you?” Dong Yao asked again.
Gu Shiqiu’s smile deepened. “Why have you been so silly every time you wake up lately?”
Gu Shiqiu moved closer to her, pulling the already short distance between them to almost nothing.
The tips of their noses touched. Their foreheads pressed together. Their breaths fell against each other’s faces.
Dong Yao swallowed.
Her heart unconsciously skipped a beat.
For some reason, the atmosphere became tense.
Gu Shiqiu kissed her earlobe, the tip of her tongue brushing over it slowly. The kiss moved from her earlobe to her forehead, then to the tip of her nose, and then to her lips.
When those thin lips pressed down, Dong Yao felt that something was not quite right, but she still instinctively closed her eyes.
Her heartbeat was in complete chaos.
Her mind was muddled, and because of this kiss, her body softened into a puddle of water.
Gu Shiqiu skillfully undid her buttons.
Dong Yao stared blankly at her movements, and her mind exploded with a boom.

Dong Yao: What is with this person? We’re not even close, yet she’s touching me all over!!!
