Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 21
Gu Shiqiu crossed her arms in front of her chest and looked at her leisurely. “What script is this today?”
Dong Yao retreated a few steps. What was this? First she asked someone to take off her clothes, and now she was talking about scripts. Dong Yao had no idea what she was saying.
Gu Shiqiu looked at the distance Dong Yao had put between them and smiled. “Are you playing an innocent little white rabbit today?”
“Then what am I supposed to play? The big bad wolf?” Gu Shiqiu straightened and walked closer to Dong Yao.
Gu Shiqiu took one step forward, and Dong Yao took one step back, until her back pressed against the cold wall and there was nowhere left to retreat.
Gu Shiqiu reached out and trapped her between the wall and her arms.
Dong Yao looked at the person so close to her and swallowed.
“But the clothes I’m wearing today aren’t very suitable for playing the big bad wolf,” Gu Shiqiu leaned close and whispered by her ear.
Her breath brushed against Dong Yao’s ear, itchy and warm. Dong Yao shrank her neck, wanting to dodge, but because the person in front of her was too close, she could not.
“Although I can’t play the big bad wolf, I can play something you like even more,” Gu Shiqiu said.
Dong Yao did not understand what she was saying at all, but even if she did not understand, she could roughly guess.
Did she and Gu Shiqiu usually play this uniquely??? Big bad wolf and little white rabbit?
“Are you sure you won’t help me take it off?” Gu Shiqiu asked again.
Dong Yao decisively shook her head.
“All right, then.” Gu Shiqiu stepped back.
Dong Yao secretly let out a long breath of relief.
But before Dong Yao could fully relax, she saw the person standing in front of her lower her head and begin untying the sash of her robe.
So if Dong Yao did not help her take it off, she would take it off herself?
Facing each other like this and directly taking it off—this was inappropriate, inappropriate, very inappropriate.
Dong Yao hurriedly pressed down on her hands. “Wait.”
Gu Shiqiu said, “Hm?”
“Well, you…” Before Dong Yao could finish speaking, Gu Shiqiu had already slipped free of Dong Yao’s not-very-tight grip.
The sash was untied.
The robe slid down with it and fell to the floor.
Dong Yao’s hand trembled. She had thought she was about to see something, but when she looked, Gu Shiqiu was still wearing something inside.
For a moment, Dong Yao could not say whether she was relieved or disappointed.
What a scare. What was wrong with this person? She was wearing a bathrobe, yet there was another piece of clothing underneath.
Was that how people wore bathrobes?
Wait, no. Dong Yao’s gaze landed on the clothes Gu Shiqiu was wearing.
These clothes…
Dong Yao’s blood surged.
Looking was wrong. Not looking was also wrong. Although she reminded herself not to look and that propriety demanded she avert her eyes, in reality, her eyes were glued directly to Gu Shiqiu.
How could Gu Shiqiu wear this kind of clothing?
Gu Shiqiu wearing this kind of clothing… was so sexy.
Half-covered, half-revealed, faintly visible. Compared to taking everything off, this somehow seemed even more captivating.
Perhaps Dong Yao’s gaze was too scorching, because Gu Shiqiu raised a hand to cover herself slightly, the tips of her ears turning a little red.
“Satisfied?” Gu Shiqiu said.
Dong Yao said, “Ah?”
Gu Shiqiu sighed and said helplessly, yet indulgently, “You’ve been pestering me for days, insisting that I wear this. This is the last time. In the future, you’re not allowed to buy these strange clothes for me to wear anymore.”
Dong Yao was stunned. So this was something she had asked Gu Shiqiu to wear?!
She played pretty wildly.
“Well, why don’t you put your clothes back on?” Dong Yao coughed lightly and offered the friendly suggestion.
Gu Shiqiu’s expression paused. Then her eyes narrowed slightly. She strode closer, reached out, and directly pulled Dong Yao into her arms.
Dong Yao was caught off guard and, in an instant, crashed into a soft embrace.
“What? You made such a fuss about wanting me to wear it, and now that I’m wearing it, you don’t want to look?” Gu Shiqiu bit Dong Yao’s ear as punishment.
Dong Yao winced from the pain. After the pain passed, it felt itchy.
Gu Shiqiu lightly kissed her earlobe, cheek, and neck. The hand wrapped around Dong Yao’s waist slowly, gradually moved.
Dong Yao’s whole body went soft against her.
She braced her hands against Gu Shiqiu’s shoulders, trying to create some distance. “Don’t move around.”
Gu Shiqiu laughed softly by her ear. “I’m not moving around. I’m moving exactly where I should.”
It was as if her body had been taken over. She could not refuse at all. Even when she pushed against Gu Shiqiu’s shoulders, she could not use much strength. As she pushed and pushed, it instead seemed more like she was half-resisting, half-inviting.
Help!
Dong Yao’s brain was about to explode.
Just as the already thin clothing on her body was about to be in danger, the scene before her eyes began to blur.
When she opened her eyes again, the scene had changed.
Dong Yao propped herself up on the table and sat up, an odd blush on her face.
As soon as she sat properly, she met Gu Shiqiu’s eyes across from her. Gu Shiqiu looked beautiful, smiling like a blooming flower.
Looking at the person before her, Dong Yao was dazed for a moment. She had a hard time distinguishing between dream and reality.
“You’re awake,” Gu Shiqiu said.
“Why is your face red after sleeping? Are you too hot? I saw you were asleep just now and was afraid you’d catch a chill, so I turned the fan down a little.”
Dong Yao stared at Gu Shiqiu’s lips as they opened and closed, losing herself in the sight.
Her red lips were soft and thin. They looked very tempting. Dong Yao wanted to bite them, wanted to become entangled with them like just now.
Gu Shiqiu stood up. “I’ll turn the fan up for you.”
Dong Yao’s gaze followed her, staring directly as she moved.
After Gu Shiqiu adjusted the electric fan to the highest setting, the whirring sound grew louder and echoed through the noodle shop.
Thinking back to what Gu Shiqiu had been wearing in the dream, Dong Yao felt that the future Gu Shiqiu and the current Gu Shiqiu were so different…
“Are you still not fully awake?” Gu Shiqiu asked when she saw Dong Yao staring blankly at her.
Dong Yao gathered her thoughts and let out a long breath. “I’m a little dazed from sleeping. I’ll go wash my face.”
Only after the words came out did she realize her voice was much hoarser than usual.
Gu Shiqiu frowned. “Don’t tell me you caught a cold?”
Dong Yao shook her head. “No. I’ll be fine after washing my face.”
As soon as she stood up, her legs went weak.
Seeing this, Gu Shiqiu stepped forward and supported her.
As Gu Shiqiu came closer, that faint fragrance belonging to her drifted into Dong Yao’s nose, exactly the same as what she had smelled in the dream.
“Are your legs numb?” Gu Shiqiu asked.
Dong Yao nodded. “Yes. A little numb.”
Numb legs really was a good excuse.
Dong Yao took a step back, putting distance between them, and stood up straight. “It’s much better now. I’m going to wash my face.”
As she spoke, Dong Yao walked outside. There was a faucet outside connected to well water. The water was cool, perfect for waking herself up.
Cold water patted against her face, icy and cool. Her whole body felt much more comfortable.
After wiping the water from her face, Dong Yao took out her phone. She did not forget the important matter and first wrote down the lottery numbers she knew by heart in her memo app. She absolutely could not forget them again.
Dong Yao’s fingers tapped quickly. Very soon, that string of numbers was recorded in the phone’s memo.
Dong Yao looked at that string of numbers and smiled foolishly.
This time, it was secure…
But before she could be happy for long, the numbers originally recorded in the memo suddenly turned into black mist at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Then they disappeared completely.
Dong Yao froze. What was going on? Was her phone malfunctioning?
Dong Yao wanted to type the numbers in again, but her mind suddenly went blank. The numbers she had known by heart only a second ago were instantly gone. Her mind was empty, and she remembered nothing.
“Damn it,” Dong Yao cursed under her breath.
Now she understood. It was not that beauty had delayed her and made her forget. It was that she simply could not rely on this method to get rich.
In short, she had no fate with sudden wealth.
Gu Shiqiu looked at the person outside, who was holding her phone and stomping in frustration, and frowned in confusion.
Just then, the phone on the table buzzed.
Gu Shiqiu picked it up. It was an unfamiliar number.
Gu Shiqiu answered the call. “Hello.”
A somewhat sharp female voice came from the other end. “Gu Shiqiu, don’t you dare go too far. I’m telling you, even a cornered dog will jump over the wall. If you push me too far, you won’t get anything good out of it either.”
It was Yu Fei.
Gu Shiqiu’s tone was flat. “Where did you get my phone number?”
“That’s none of your business. I have my ways. I’m telling you, don’t push me too hard. If I have no way out, I’ll block your way out too!” Yu Fei said through gritted teeth.
“The barefoot aren’t afraid of those wearing shoes. I already have nothing left…”
Gu Shiqiu did not continue listening. Her face calm, she hung up the phone.
When Dong Yao had just entered the room, she saw Gu Shiqiu on the phone with someone, her gaze cold and sharp.
At this moment, Gu Shiqiu was completely different from the gentle, warm appearance Dong Yao usually saw. There were traces of chill on her face that should not have appeared there.
Gu Shiqiu hung up the phone and saw Dong Yao, who had just entered. The coldness dispersed, and she smiled at her.
“Did something happen?” Dong Yao asked.
Before Gu Shiqiu could speak, Zhong Ximei shouted from the kitchen, “Little Yao, come help carry the dishes.”
“Okay, coming.” Dong Yao answered.
As Dong Yao walked toward the kitchen, she thought back to Gu Shiqiu’s expression just now. Perhaps it had only been her imagination.
That cold, dark look could appear on anyone, but only not on Gu Shiqiu.
In Dong Yao’s eyes, Gu Shiqiu was like light. Warm and gentle. There should not be even the slightest dark side to her.
Dong Yao shook her head and did not think too deeply about it. She simply took it as the lingering gloom from suddenly discovering she could not get rich.
“Come, try this.” Zhong Ximei picked up some food for Gu Shiqiu.
Gu Shiqiu thanked her and ate it.
Zhong Ximei asked, “How is it?”
Gu Shiqiu said, “It’s delicious. Auntie, your cooking skills are especially good. I think the noodle shop could expand its business too. Add a few stir-fried dishes, and business would definitely be very popular.”
Zhong Ximei laughed. “You child, your mouth is really sweet. Right, I still don’t know your name.”
“My name is Gu Shiqiu,” Gu Shiqiu answered.
“Gu Shiqiu. It seems like I’ve heard that somewhere before,” Zhong Ximei said. “It’s a very nice name. It carries a season, just like our Little Yao.”
Suddenly being cued, Dong Yao stopped her motion of eating meat in big bites and looked up.
Zhong Ximei looked at how Gu Shiqiu chewed slowly and carefully, then looked at Dong Yao, who still had a grain of rice stuck at the corner of her mouth. She clicked her tongue, her disdain overflowing.
“Little Gu, do you have a boyfriend? Auntie can call you Little Gu, right?” Zhong Ximei said.
Gu Shiqiu said, “Of course. You can call me whatever you like. I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Just as Zhong Ximei was about to speak again, Dong Yao hurriedly cut in. “Mom, she doesn’t need you to introduce her to blind date candidates. You can put away your matchmaker heart.”
Zhong Ximei glanced at her. The grain of rice was still stuck at the corner of her mouth. “Of course I know she doesn’t need anyone introducing her to partners. You’re the one who needs it very much.”
Dong Yao took a big mouthful of rice and said indistinctly, “I don’t need it either.”
Zhong Ximei shook her head in disdain. “A little scourge like you—if I introduced you to someone, no one would dare take you.”
Dong Yao snorted. “A scourge is a scourge. Someone wants me!”
Gu Shiqiu was amused by Dong Yao and laughed.
Dong Yao glared at Gu Shiqiu and silently said, What are you laughing at? What a coincidence—the one I’ll be scourging is you.
