Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 6
Even though she had clearly already guessed it, when she saw the three characters “Gu Shiqiu,” she still felt shocked.
Dong Yao recalled the details from the dream again. Gu Shiqiu’s face kept appearing in her mind from time to time, impossible to wave away or drive out.
Dong Yao came up with a bold guess.
That dream was the future.
She had foreseen the future.
Dong Yao’s gaze fell once more on the concert ticket. And the connection between herself and Gu Shiqiu very likely began with this concert.
But Dong Yao frowned. That was not right either. If it was the future, if she really went to this concert and thus crossed paths with Gu Shiqiu…
Then at most, she and Gu Shiqiu would become friends. Although that was somewhat unbelievable, it was not completely impossible.
But the ambiguous atmosphere in the dream had gone a little too far. So far that Dong Yao had instinctively felt it was an improper dream.
Was she dating Gu Shiqiu?
Impossible. Dong Yao did not know whether Gu Shiqiu was bent or not, but Dong Yao knew one thing for certain—she definitely was not!
Could it be… Gu Shiqiu was actually a man disguised as a woman?
Dong Yao thought about many things, but in the end, she figured nothing out. At the root of it all, Dong Yao actually did not really believe in supernatural things like this.
Perhaps all of this was just her overthinking. Just her imagination.
Dong Yao turned on the television and stared at the clock on the wall. Every time she had that dream, it was at six o’clock, when the drama began airing.
If she fell asleep again this time and dreamed of Gu Shiqiu again, Dong Yao would choose to believe it. She would believe in these things that were almost impossible.
Six o’clock arrived. The drama started on time.
Unlike before, Dong Yao was very awake this time. She did not feel the slightest bit sleepy.
Dong Yao refused to give up. She lay on the table, trying to make herself fall asleep.
One minute passed. Two minutes passed. Three minutes passed. Four minutes passed…
Dong Yao opened her eyes. She was still in the shop. The old fan was whirring, and the television was making noise.
She had not fallen asleep, much less dreamed.
So, it turned out she really had been overthinking.
For a moment, Dong Yao did not know whether she should feel relieved or disappointed.
For the next several days after that, Dong Yao did not dream of Gu Shiqiu again.
Those dreams seemed to slowly fade with time. Dreams really were only dreams.
Dong Yao looked at the concert ticket in her hand and hesitated.
Should she go or not?
Forget it. There was no need. She would not go.
Dong Yao tossed the concert tickets aside.
On Saturday, the day of the concert, Dong Yao boarded a long-distance bus.
Originally, she had not planned to go. But unfortunately, after Lin Yunyi found out she had the tickets, she got so excited that she practically jumped up. With both persuasion and tugging, she dragged Dong Yao, who had not wanted to go, onto the long-distance bus.
From Fuqian Town to Tobei, they needed to take a two-hour long-distance bus. Once they reached the county town, they had to transfer to a train. All in all, the journey alone would take five or six hours.
After getting off the long-distance bus, transferring onto the train, and finding their seats, Dong Yao had already been tortured into exhaustion.
Lin Yunyi, however, was still immersed in the excitement of soon being able to watch the concert. She did not feel tired at all. Holding her phone, she took selfies here and there, and had already posted four or five Moments.
Dong Yao looked at Lin Yunyi, who was preparing to post her sixth Moment. “Calm down a little. You’re going to flood everyone’s feed.”
Lin Yunyi looked at the photo she was about to send. Her finger hovered over the send button for a moment, but in the end, she tapped cancel. “True. I can’t post anymore. My original intention was to show off, but if I post too much, won’t I look like some country bumpkin?”
Dong Yao held back a laugh.
Lin Yunyi glared at her. “What are you laughing at? I really do want to show off. It’s my Shiqiu’s concert, and these are front-row seats. Do you know how hard it is to get front-row tickets? You don’t. You completely don’t understand how precious these tickets are.”
“And you actually wanted to throw them into a corner and not watch the concert. If I hadn’t discovered them in time, you would’ve wasted these tickets!!!”
Dong Yao nodded. “All right, all right. Keep going, keep going. I’m going to lie down for a bit. This whole trip has been exhausting.”
Lin Yunyi glanced at the time. “The train should arrive in about an hour. Sleep. I’ll wake you when we get there.”
Dong Yao lay on the table, her head turned toward the window. When they had boarded, the sun had been shining brightly, but now it was raining.
The rain went drip-drop, drip-drop against the window.
The scenery outside flashed past. Dong Yao slowly sank into sleep. The time was exactly six o’clock.
Dong Yao half-opened her eyes, moved her stiff neck, and yawned. “How long did I sleep? Are we not there yet?”
“You slept for half an hour. We’ll arrive soon. It should take about five more minutes,” a male voice replied.
Dong Yao’s mind short-circuited for a moment. She suddenly opened her eyes, and all sleepiness vanished.
She looked around. At this moment, she was sitting inside a car. The person who had answered just now was the driver. From the rearview mirror, she could see his face. He had a square face, looked around forty years old, had a sturdy build, and was wearing a black suit.
His face was very unfamiliar. She did not know him.
Was she dreaming again?
The driver looked at her through the rearview mirror. Seeing that something seemed off with her expression, he asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Dong Yao did not answer. She lowered her head and accidentally glanced at the back of her hand. Her pupils widened. The wound she had made with the fruit knife was still there. It was no longer bloody like at the beginning. Only a faint scar remained.
She turned her head and looked out the window. In the distance were tall buildings, and unfamiliar street scenes flashed by. On an advertising screen in a far-off plaza, the year 2026 was written clearly.
Five years later?
Was this the world five years in the future?
Dong Yao stroked the scar on her hand, deep in thought.
The car stopped in front of a restaurant. “Miss Dong, we’re here.”
The driver got out of the car, opened the door for Dong Yao, and placed one hand on the top of the car door as he stepped aside.
Dong Yao steadied herself, let out a long breath, and got out of the car. She swept her gaze around. As soon as she got out, she saw Gu Shiqiu standing in front of the restaurant entrance.
She had thought that this dream would not have her this time. Unexpectedly, she was still there.
She had always been there.
Every time.
Without exception.
What exactly was Gu Shiqiu’s relationship with her?
Gu Shiqiu slowly walked over, her tone intimate. “What are you thinking about? You’ve been standing there in a daze ever since you got out of the car.”
Dong Yao stared at the person slowly approaching.
Gu Shiqiu raised her hand and tucked the long hair that had fallen forward behind her ear. Her fingers were fair and slender. At her wrist, there was a very small, very faint mole.
Set against her snow-white skin, that black mole looked like a delicate adornment, making her hand look even more beautiful.
Gu Shiqiu had already walked up to her and took Dong Yao’s hand. “Let’s go. Didn’t you say a few days ago that you wanted to eat sushi from this place? The food has already been ordered. Let’s go in.”
Dong Yao turned her head slightly. Her heart was beating hard. She adjusted her breathing and asked, “Are we dating?”
Gu Shiqiu looked at her in amusement. “Why are you asking that? Don’t tell me you suddenly don’t want me anymore?”
Dong Yao froze. It seemed they really were dating.
But from childhood to adulthood, the people she liked had always been boys. Although she had never been in a relationship, she was extremely certain that she was a standard “super straight woman.”
Although Dong Yao also appreciated beautiful women, appreciation was just appreciation. She had never thought about dating a girl.
Dong Yao looked Gu Shiqiu up and down. Gu Shiqiu practically embodied every kind of feminine beauty. There was not the slightest trace of masculinity about her. She could not possibly be a man disguised as a woman.
“Um…” Dong Yao smiled awkwardly. “May I ask, why are you dressed as a man? Is it for work?”
“There you go again.” Gu Shiqiu looked at her helplessly, then leaned closer and whispered ambiguously in her ear, “Whether I’m a woman or not, haven’t you already personally verified it long ago? If you don’t remember, I don’t mind letting you verify it again tonight.”
Her breath brushed against Dong Yao’s ear, making it itch. Dong Yao instinctively shrank her neck, and her face inexplicably heated up.
“Little Yao, get up. We’ve arrived. It’s time to get off.”
A voice drifted over from far away.
The scene before her eyes gradually blurred and scattered.
When she opened her eyes, Dong Yao had returned to the train. Lin Yunyi was cleaning up the trash on the table and putting on her backpack. “We’re here. Let’s go.”
Dong Yao patted her cheeks to shake off her sleepiness, tidied up, and followed the flow of people toward the carriage door.
Dong Yao went to the restroom and turned on the faucet. The water rushed out noisily. She cupped some water in her hands and patted her face.
The icy water completely cleared her muddled thoughts.
Dong Yao recalled the details of that dream just now and thought of the small black mole on Gu Shiqiu’s wrist.
She had never paid special attention to Gu Shiqiu. Her biggest exposure to her was watching two episodes of her drama and hearing a thing or two about her from Lin Yunyi. It was impossible for her to know a tiny detail like Gu Shiqiu having a mole on her wrist.
Dong Yao took out her phone and typed into the search bar:
Does Gu Shiqiu have a mole on her wrist?
If the search results showed that Gu Shiqiu really had a mole on her wrist, then that could almost prove that the dream just now was not a dream, nor some hallucination caused by mental confusion, but a real, genuine future.
The search results that appeared had no relevant information.
Dong Yao opened a picture of Gu Shiqiu, zoomed in, and saw that her wrist was clean. There was no mole.
Dong Yao froze.
Unwilling to give up, she switched to another picture where the wrist could be seen. She looked through four or five photos in a row.
Nothing.
How could there be nothing?
Her entire mind became a mess.
Was it the future or not? What exactly was going on? Could it be that there really was something wrong with her mind?
“Are you done yet?” Lin Yunyi called impatiently from outside the restroom.
Dong Yao tightened her grip around the ticket in her hand.
Whether this was real or fake, today’s concert might hold the answer.
