Giving You Dawn and Dusk - Chapter 14
Liang Shi was still recovering from shock even after hanging up the phone.
She didn’t even remember how she managed to politely end the call with Madam Liang.
However, she did change the ringtone immediately after hanging up.
It was too irritating.
If someone called her while she was asleep, she might literally be scared to death.
After changing the ringtone, Liang Shi went through the original host’s phone again, checking the memo, cloud drive, shopping apps, WeChat list, and Weibo, turning everything upside down.
The original host’s memo only contained three entries.
【Run away, run far away.】
【Sacrifice. Heh.】
【Who would be a good child? Death.】
Three completely inexplicable and unrelated sentences.
The date for each entry was the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, but the years were different.
The first entry was in 2019.
The second was in 2020.
The third was in 2021.
And the current year was 2023.
This phone had been with the original host for some years.
The 15th day of the 7th lunar month was a strange date, known to everyone as the Ghost Festival, the day the gates of hell were believed to open.
Liang Shi had never been superstitious, but now that she had transmigrated into a book and encountered a System, her life was already so bizarre that adding other strange elements didn’t seem impossible.
Most importantly, it mentioned sacrifice.
Sacrifice whom? What was the sacrificial item?
She didn’t understand.
The original host had a terrible habit of rarely adding names to contacts. Her phone book contained almost no one but family members. However, her text message list had many messages from unknown numbers, like the ones she saw earlier about wife-swapping.
She was completely clueless about who they were.
The original host used very brief names for family members, usually just one character.
Only Xu Qingzhu’s entry was somewhat special—her name was saved as “Bamboo,” followed by a tree icon native to the phone’s emoji set.
Judging from these details, did the original host genuinely like Xu Qingzhu?
This kind of behavior was usually seen only in young girls in the throes of first love.
But if she liked Xu Qingzhu and was already married to her, why couldn’t she be straightforward?
It was baffling.
Perhaps because Xu Qingzhu wouldn’t let her touch her?
Liang Shi recalled that the novel mentioned that segment. Because Xu Qingzhu was left with PTSD after being kidnapped, she was terrified of intimate contact. The Alpha, drunk on their wedding night, tried to assault her, leading to Xu Qingzhu being hospitalized that very night.
That same night, the drunk Alpha slept with a Beta.
Both were cannon fodder, and the book didn’t mention their names.
But when Xu Qingzhu sobered up and learned about it, she refused to let her touch her ever since.
Their relationship had been tense.
The original host had tried many ways to trick Xu Qingzhu into sleeping with her, all to no avail. Finally, on the advice of her questionable friends, she chose to use pheromone suppression.
The friend at the time said, Omegas will be obedient once marked. After the first time, she’ll beg you to touch her.
The original host was promiscuous and had many questionable friends. She had over a hundred WeChat groups, and every single one was filled with suggestive chatter.
Some groups contained only Alphas, so the conversation revolved around Omegas: who went to which club today, what kind of girl they picked up, how she felt, what new tricks they played in bed, and some even shared inappropriate images.
Liang Shi clicked through and scrolled through many of the groups, then chose to clear the chat history and exit the group.
She left over a dozen groups in one go.
Other groups included Omegas and Betas. Conversations were mostly aimless, but generally suggestive.
Some Omegas used profile pictures of themselves in swimsuits or maid outfits.
Liang Shi wondered if the country’s anti-pornography and anti-vice campaigns hadn’t reached here.
Even in an ABO world, there must be a complete social system in place.
The novel’s author generally based the setting on the real world, so most aspects were similar to Liang Shi’s original life, except for the unique genders and privileges of the ABO world.
Plus, there was the added rule of rapidly developed civilization, low birth rates, and the prohibition of abortion in this world.
Liang Shi frowned and repeated the previous actions.
After leaving over eighty groups, her WeChat list exploded again.
A crowd of people messaged her, asking what happened and why she suddenly left the groups. She looked at the people without names and fell into thought.
Should she… delete them too?
Liang Shi considered it, then decided against it for now.
However, she deleted all the Omegas and Betas who seemed solely intended for flirtation.
This was her account, and she didn’t want to see that filth.
Even opening moments revealed photos that were borderline explicit.
Quite… eye-watering.
Liang Shi checked Weibo and found the original host had never posted. Her browsing history was clean, suggesting she rarely used the app.
The situation with the cloud drive was less pleasant.
She had a premium account with a 1TB capacity, mostly filled with short videos.
Liang Shi had watched such videos out of curiosity before, but they were always normal, aesthetically pleasing clips.
But when she clicked on a video saved by the original host, she nearly threw up after watching the opening. It was extremely graphic, full of gore and violence.
Liang Shi immediately closed it and proceeded to clean out everything in the cloud drive.
For a moment, she felt like she was cleansing the account.
Wiping away the traces of the person who lived before and replacing everything with herself.
But this was the life she had to continue living.
After all this, it was past 1 a.m. Liang Shi, utterly exhausted, lay there but couldn’t fall asleep.
The uncertainty of life and the completely unfamiliar environment kept her mind on high alert, causing some insomnia.
She lay there for a long time, lost in thought, and eventually fell asleep somehow.
She woke up early the next morning to an empty room.
She went downstairs to check on Xu Qingzhu. The other woman was still asleep, so Liang Shi went outside to eat breakfast.
Afterward, she returned to her room to sleep again.
Nurses came and went in the room, but Liang Shi didn’t notice.
She was too tired and desperately needed rest.
//
Liang Shi slept for a day and a half, finally replenishing her energy.
She handled her own discharge and drove her car to a 4S shop to trade it in for a white Porsche.
She returned to the hospital in the afternoon.
She went up to the tenth floor, heading to Xu Qingzhu’s room. Standing by the door, she heard pleasant laughter.
She hesitated whether to go in, but then heard Zhao Xuning behind her say, “Go in if you’re going in. If not, don’t block the way.”
Liang Shi: “…”
She pushed the door open, and the laughter inside the room instantly ceased.
Bai Weiwei saw her and immediately rolled her eyes, saying sarcastically, “Well, look who it is, Miss Liang Second has arrived. Aren’t you afraid this place will dirty your shoes?”
Liang Shi didn’t respond. She only looked at Xu Qingzhu and asked softly, “Are you feeling better?”
Xu Qingzhu nodded, answering with a cold “Mm.”
“There’s no time like the present,” Bai Weiwei said. “How about right now? The Civil Affairs Bureau isn’t closed yet. Why don’t you two go get your divorce certificate?”
Liang Shi immediately countered, “Who said we’re getting a divorce?”
“Miss Liang Second, if you won’t divorce, then we’ll see you in court,” Bai Weiwei stood up to confront her. “Our Bamboo is not someone to be bullied. I’ve consulted a lawyer. Even within a marriage, forcing an Omega to sleep with you or forcibly marking an Omega is illegal.”
Liang Shi: “…”
But I didn’t do that.
But the original host had already committed the sin.
“I had no such intention,” Liang Shi explained.
Bai Weiwei scoffed.
Liang Shi’s phone vibrated slightly. She took it out and saw it was a voice message from Qiu Zimin.
She clicked on it, intending to convert it to text, but accidentally hit play.
Qiu Zimin’s voice rang out in the room: “Cangyue Restaurant at 7:30 tonight. Don’t be late. Even if you change your mind, you have to go tell Zhou Yian yourself. I can’t…”
Liang Shi frantically fumbled, finally hitting pause.
But everyone had heard everything they needed to hear.
Everyone in the room looked displeased.
Liang Shi immediately said, “Xu Qingzhu, I can explain.”
However, Xu Qingzhu lay down, pulled the blanket over herself, and said faintly, “Please go out. I’m tired.”
Liang Shi: “…”
If things go on like this, she won’t get 80 Luck Value points in her next life!
