- Chapter 22 - You'll get double overtime pay
Shu Qian’s face was flushed. She felt that the way Qi Qing put it was strange, but she couldn’t put her finger on why. In the end, she replied vaguely, “It’s only for a short time, anyway.”
Isn’t that the Alpha’s goal? To find a short-term, no-strings-attached bed partner. Since they had high compatibility and both had their own plans, there would be no entanglements. It was perfect.
Qi Qing’s eyes darkened slightly, and she didn’t argue. “Let’s go. I’ll take you home.”
Shu Qian was a little surprised. She had expected that after she agreed, Qi Qing would be eager to get a room… Although Qi Qing usually had a stoic face, as an Omega who had slept with her a few times, she knew how well Qi Qing embodied the idiom of “acting like one thing but being another.”
But today, she was uncharacteristically saying she would take her home? There must be a catch.
Mentally prepared for the Alpha to suddenly go into heat, she was surprised that Qi Qing simply took her home and dropped her off at her front door. The only thing she did before leaving was give her a light hug.
“See you tomorrow.” After a gentle kiss on her ear, she turned and left.
Shu Qian watched her disappear into the elevator, then awkwardly rubbed her arm.
After a few days, Qi Qing still interacted with her as she always had. The few differences were that they would eat dinner together after working overtime, and then Qi Qing would take her home.
The most they would do was kiss and hold hands; they never went any further.
Shu Qian was confused. When they were strangers, they got together without a word. But now that she had agreed to be her bed partner, their relationship was pure… like students in a relationship.
No, based on recent news, students were even wilder than adults nowadays.
So was Qi Qing tired of the physical stuff and wanted to play relationship games?
“All done.” Qu Zhou finished the injection and drew blood with the help of a researcher.
“Are you done?” Shu Qian snapped out of her daze.
“Yes, you are. What were you thinking about? You didn’t even react to the injection and blood draw,” Qu Zhou said with a gentle smile. “Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Compared to before the injection?”
Shu Qian carefully assessed her body’s condition and simply shook her head.
After Qu Zhou finished his notes, he said, “This is the first phase of the human trial. Although the side effects on animals aren’t significant, the experimental results can’t be fully replicated. If you feel any discomfort during this time, you must contact me or Uncle Lan immediately.”
“Okay,” Shu Qian said, nodding.
“I also explained this to you before. Based on the experimental data, this drug has a stabilizing effect on pheromone factors when it’s accompanied by pheromones from the other gender,” Qu Zhou said calmly. “I know you went to the matching center for help. If possible, you should spend these next few days in the company of an Alpha.”
The meaning of “company” was clearly ambiguous. But when it came from Qu Zhou, it sounded as normal as discussing work.
Shu Qian didn’t know if she should be embarrassed or feign the modesty of an Omega. While she was still conflicted, Qu Zhou suddenly pulled out a gift box and placed it in front of her.
When Shu Qian took a closer look at the promotional text on the packaging, her face flushed red: “The Best Supplement for Omegas, A Good Partner for the Heat Cycle. 48-Hour Ultra-Concentrated Chicken Essence, so you can replenish your energy anytime, anywhere.”
“U-Uncle Qu…” she stammered.
“Oh, this. The research institute gave it to me as a subsidy, and Lan Yi told me to give it to you,” Qu Zhou said, serious as ever. “Omegas always have times when they feel weak. This,” he coughed, his expression a little awkward, “is quite effective.”
As if she had just heard something shocking, Shu Qian’s face was beet red as she took the box. She quickly thanked him and left.
To accommodate her schedule, Qu Zhou had specifically scheduled the appointment on a Saturday, so she didn’t have to make up an excuse to take a day off. When she was done, it was still early. Shu Qian was just thinking of going shopping when Qi Qing’s call came.
“Shu Qian, where are you?” a cold voice came from the other end of the phone.
“CEO Qi, is something wrong? It’s Saturday. We don’t have to work overtime,” Shu Qian said on purpose, and the other side was silent for a moment.
“Could you come to the company? I have some work that I need your help with urgently.” She then added, “You’ll get double overtime pay.”
Shu Qian, who would normally refuse to work overtime even with overtime pay, stopped herself when she heard the word “double.”
However, the other party thought her silence was a sign of unwillingness and immediately said, “Sorry, I misremembered. For weekend overtime, you can report it as triple overtime pay.”
“Is it that urgent?” Shu Qian now took it seriously. What could be so urgent that she needed to rush over?
“We’re holding a temporary board meeting on Monday to discuss the acquisition, and we need to prepare the data beforehand,” Qi Qing explained briefly. Shu Qian immediately understood the importance of it.
She knew that Qi Qing had been working on a food factory acquisition. If it had reached the board meeting, it meant that the project was moving forward. “I understand. I’ll be there right away.”
Although it was different from what she had expected, since she had to be around an Alpha to use her pheromones to stabilize her condition, spending time in the same office during overtime would count, right?
