I Heard I Was the Scumbag Alpha of a Top-Tier Celebrity (GL) - Chapter 10
Gu Xin took the late-night flight back to X City on the weekend. When she appeared punctually at the Civil Affairs Bureau entrance the next morning as promised, Yan Shuangshuang unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.
“Did you bring all your documents?” Yan Shuangshuang asked.
Gu Xin had bought a new canvas bag. Perhaps because she was coming for a divorce, she was dressed slightly formally. But she had rushed to get up that morning, and a disobedient lock of fringe hair was sticking up. The combination made Gu Xin look like a sloppy student rushing to give a presentation.
Gu Xin looked down and confirmed in her canvas bag: “I brought everything.”
The two looked at each other in silence and walked into the Civil Affairs Bureau together.
As they handed the documents to the staff member, Gu Xin said, “Thank you for your hard work all these years.”
Yan Shuangshuang was signing the papers. Hearing this, she pursed her lips, her facial muscles tight: “You don’t need to be so polite.”
Gu Xin ignored the barb in Yan Shuangshuang’s words. She turned her head to look at the lover a short distance away, knowing that after today, she would never be able to see her so easily again.
The sea of people was vast. Their connection was like two drops of water merging into the tide. If the matchmaker hadn’t tied a red string between them, they would have become strange little droplets, flowing toward their respective rivers and sinking into their own soil.
“Shuangshuang, I’m sorry.” Gu Xin apologized sincerely.
Yan Shuangshuang capped her pen, not looking at her, but toward the glass window in front: “If you know you’re sorry, remember me for a little longer, and take your time finding the next person.”
“Okay.”
Yan Shuangshuang thought for a moment and said, “It’s best if you don’t start dating until I find a new lover. Your second marriage should also be later than mine.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll block you on Moments, and I’ll block your phone number. Don’t contact me unless it’s necessary.”
“Mhm.”
“The next time we meet, I hope we are both successful in our careers and happy in our families. If life isn’t going well, I’ll allow you to forget me ahead of schedule.” Yan Shuangshuang finally turned her face toward her. She wore a beret today and light makeup; she was delicate and beautiful. As she spoke, the silver earrings on her ears swung, gleaming brightly, making her eyes look bright, like the stars Gu Xin wanted to see but couldn’t.
“Mhm.”
The staff member reviewed the documents quickly and handed over the dark red divorce certificates. Yan Shuangshuang and Gu Xin walked out, each holding their own certificate.
They instinctively stopped at the entrance.
Yan Shuangshuang was the first to break the silence. She held up the divorce certificate to Gu Xin and said, “Well, I wish we never meet again, ex-wife.”
Gu Xin watched Yan Shuangshuang’s retreating figure.
Yan Shuangshuang was dressed beautifully today in a dark blue long dress. As she walked, her long hair was blown by the wind, swaying with the hem of her skirt in a romantic wave, like a goddess high above. But until she turned the corner and completely disappeared, she never looked back once.
“Mhm. Goodbye, Shuangshuang.”
Gu Xin gripped the divorce certificate in her hand, slowly exhaled, walked down the steps, and hailed a taxi: “To Qinglu Mountain Cemetery.”

The days after the divorce were busy for Gu Xin.
She was busy moving, finding a job, repaying the money, and studying.
Thanks to her Senior Brother, Gu Xin reconnected with her professor. She now worked odd jobs while studying under the professor. No matter how familiar the lost knowledge looked, she had to re-learn it.
She had considered looking for a proper job, but when she submitted her resume, people immediately filtered her out because her last job was five years ago, regardless of her graduating school.
Gu Xin had to utilize every gap between her odd jobs, working relentlessly.
But in the dead of night, Gu Xin couldn’t help but think of Yan Shuangshuang.
Her new Weibo account only followed Yan Shuangshuang, but since posting her retirement announcement, Yan Shuangshuang had never logged on, allowing the Weibo storm to subside until the trending topic passed and people gradually forgot her.
Now, Yan Shuangshuang’s Weibo had become a check-in point. Many old fans left messages daily asking if she would come back or chatting about their day’s observations as if talking to a friend, but the final sign-off was always that they missed her.
Gu Xin lay sideways on the bed, her hand propped under her head, scrolling down one message after another. The fans’ happiness, sadness, and affection all eventually turned into longing.
The bright light from the screen shone on Gu Xin’s tired face. She thought, I miss her too.
This kind of longing was like the Milky Way. You didn’t notice it when you looked down, but when you looked up, you realized it was so vast, so beautiful, impossible to look away from, and impossible to pretend didn’t exist.
Ding-dong.
Her new Weibo account posted its first original tweet.
[Missing her.]
Gu Xin fell into a deep sleep after posting the tweet. Tomorrow was a new day. She had to work and gradually pick up the pieces of her life.
Until she figured everything out, she had to live well under the shining light of the Milky Way.

Time flew to May. The weather gradually grew warmer. Gu Xin finally sold the house and the closet full of luxury goods. This not only allowed her to repay the money but also to extend her lease directly.
She was now renting a small residence in an old community. It couldn’t compare to the house in Jiwang County at all, but it felt friendly.
Gu Xin felt she must have experienced hardship before, but her Junior Sister said that from the first time she saw her, she thought she was arrogant, like the kind of upstart who would walk into a factory and demand, “Wrap up all the equipment for me.” Hardship shouldn’t be a part of her life.
Gu Xin simply texted her Junior Sister to ‘scram.’
Her Senior Brother, however, timely sent a pile of PDFs—papers on cutting-edge research achievements—making Gu Xin’s temples throb painfully.
The biggest gain from her trip to the Capital was reconnecting with her professor, Senior Brother, and Junior Sister.
Her Senior Brother, An Shizhi, was the professor’s son. He had gotten married two years ago and was happily settled. Now, he just wanted to be a stable teacher, get his professional title, and stop stressing himself out.
Her Junior Sister, Shao Xiaosheng, was two years older than Gu Xin, and she was also an Alpha. She and Gu Xin used to butt heads frequently over projects. Now that Gu Xin had amnesia, they could occasionally joke with each other.
The professor said that three years ago, Gu Xin left the institute on very bad terms. If she wanted to continue her research, she would probably have to leave the Capital and go to another institute. Furthermore, her previous projects were classified, belonging to the state, and Gu Xin couldn’t even view her own results.
Gu Xin pondered for a long time, unsure what else she could do besides scientific research.
She had never held a proper job. Everyone at the institute doted on the young and ambitious her, and her future was indeed boundless. But she wasn’t the only genius in the field of communications. In the years she lost, the scientific community had long transformed. Science always progressed, and she was stuck in place.
After much consideration, Gu Xin decided to accept the professor’s suggestion. She decided to try her luck at an institute in X City. Surely, one of them needed someone.
But before that, Gu Xin had to keep working.
Gu Xin picked up her personal belongings and opened the door to leave. Outside, neon lights flickered and the night was peaceful. X City was young and lively; the nightlife was just beginning.
She walked into a bar and headed to the staff room to change into her work clothes.
Outside, an ice-cold beauty discreetly pushed the door open and entered.
Ding-a-ling.
The doorbell rang, like fate letting out a mischievous laugh.
