I Snatched the Male Lead’s "Cool Novel" Script - Chapter 10
Little Goddess?
In this world, an increase in soul power also extends one’s lifespan; so far, the longest-living female Beast Master has already celebrated her thousandth birthday.
Yan Yu herself was twenty-eight, the original host of her body had just turned forty, but Yin Beiqing was already ninety-nine years old. By comparison, she really was “little.”
Yan Yu could only swallow this “little” bit of grievance.
“Gurgle…”
The two stared at each other in silence.
Yan Yu shamelessly broke the awkwardness. “I’m hungry.”
“What, do you want me to feed you too?”
“It’s not out of the question.”
“…”
This was the first time Yin Beiqing had encountered someone with Yan Yu’s personality. It seemed that no matter how sharp-tongued a person was, they could only be left speechless by her calm, breezy rebuttals.
Yan Yu knew this woman usually didn’t keep maids in her room, but there were generally people guarding the door. She propped herself up, preparing to ask for some food, but before she could even sit up, she was pressed back down.
“What are you moving for?”
Yan Yu was pinned back to the bed, her eyes full of helplessness. “Do I really expect you to feed me?”
“…” Yin Beiqing’s teeth were nearly crushed from grinding. “You just wait.”
If a steaming meal hadn’t been brought to the table ten minutes later, Yan Yu would have assumed the second half of Yin Beiqing’s sentence was “wait until I deal with you.”
Two maids came over to help Yan Yu up. Yan Yu thanked them and scanned the food on the table. The fare was better than expected, though the portions were a bit large.
The Kingdom of Jin was a gathering place for elite Beast Masters, and those whose soul power reached Grade A or above generally didn’t need sleep or food. Consequently, the entertainment industry was highly developed, but the food industry was in a sorry state.
The food on the table was proof enough. The soup was a greasy hodgepodge; animal organs, claws, brains, and eyeballs were all tossed in together. Vegetables and white meat were simply steamed or boiled until cooked. However, the chef here used a heavy hand—everything was excessively salty.
Yan Yu avoided the oily soup and picked up some green leafy vegetables to eat with her rice; finally, there was something she could actually swallow.
As she ate slowly and carefully, Yin Beiqing leaned her face on her hand and watched from the side the entire time.
There was a natural calm and elegance in Yan Yu’s every move. Even when she was starving, her manners remained refined; she chewed slowly, and not a single crumb fell on her face or the table.
“Is it good?”
“It’s alright.” Yan Yu gave a vague evaluation. Although she wasn’t a picky eater, the food was indeed so salty it was hard to eat. However, out of the principle of not wasting food, she still doggedly finished all the rice in her bowl.
“So, a Goddess has to eat too?”
“I eat. Three meals a day, never miss one.” Yan Yu felt that Yin Beiqing was intentionally making conversation just to find something to nitpick about.
Like a little kid.
Yes, a little kid who was nearly a hundred years old.
Lu Jia rested its two claws on the windowsill, its feet swaying back and forth as it watched the passersby one by one. When it finally saw the figure it had been longing for, it ran over with a look of joy.
“Master, you’re back!”
Yesterday, Yan Yu had been carried away by Yin Beiqing and hadn’t returned all night. If the contract mark hadn’t still been there, it would have thought Yan Yu had already perished.
Yan Yu crouched down and extended her palm toward it. Lu Jia immediately scurried up her arm to her shoulder, its claws holding on while its tail dangled and swayed.
“Have you eaten?”
“I have.” Lu Jia rubbed its head against her. The smooth, hard texture of its scales was something Yan Yu was still getting used to. “Where is Guipan?”
“Guipan?” At the mention, Yan Yu remembered—that seemed to be the name of the original host’s beast soul.
All beast soul names are innate. Surnames are divided into eight ancient names: Ji, Gui, Si, Ying, Ji, Yao, Jiang, and Yun. Those with the same surname belong to the same matrilineal line. So, technically, her Guipan and Yin Beiqing’s Guilian were beast souls from the same clan and generation.
That little meatball calling itself “Panpan” all day was actually meant to be “Panpan”.
Yan Yu formed a hand seal and probed her internal spiritual awareness. She found the little meatball lying on its back in the Soul Domain, gnawing on a green plant twice its height. Its round head was tilted at a slightly ferocious angle, but its nature as a foodie was fully exposed.
Yan Yu found it strange; how could such a large plant grow out of thin air in the Soul Domain that was empty the last time she visited? As she probed further, she discovered it was much more than that. The large open space in front of the small hut was now covered with green plants taller than a person.
Looking closely, these plants had short, thick leaves covered in white downy hair and thorns, with thick roots and round red fruits. They looked very similar to the Lotus Bead grass growing by the Cobalt Rhodium Spring. The only difference was the size—they were massive. The Lotus Beads by the spring were barely the size of a palm, but the fruits here were larger than a human head.
“Master?” Guipan seemed to have noticed her. It turned its head, the white fur on its cheeks stained red from being rubbed against the fruit—it looked adorably silly.
“Master, eat some! It’s very nourishing!” It had exhausted a lot of soul power to manifest that protective shield last night; these fruits were perfect for replenishing it.
“Where did these fruits come from?” Yan Yu entered the Soul Domain to speak with it.
“I picked them.” Its eyes were wide and round. “Right by that pool. They were very obvious. I grabbed a handful and scattered them here, and these things just grew up in a flash!”
Grabbed a handful?
Yan Yu looked at the green field that stretched almost out of sight. This “handful” was more than a person could fit in a sack.
She looked at Guipan, who was grinning foolishly while waiting for a compliment, and let out a long sigh.
“You really know how to make trouble for me.”
Lotus Bead grass has strict growth requirements—temperature, humidity, and even the water used for irrigation must be precise. Thus, it was very rare. If one or two went missing, it might go unnoticed, but her beast soul had practically stripped the place bare.
Yan Yu couldn’t imagine how furious Yin Beiqing would be once she found out, or how miserably she would die.
Beast souls are connected to their master’s consciousness. Guipan sensed that Yan Yu wasn’t particularly happy at the moment.
It ran over and tugged at Yan Yu’s skirt with its claws. “Are you unhappy? Are you afraid of that mean big sister? It’s okay, I’ll protect you.”
“I’m not unhappy.” Yan Yu didn’t plan to hold a grudge against it. “But next time, before you take something from someone, you have to ask me first.”
Innocent, straightforward, and following instinct—these were the characteristics of beast souls. They didn’t think about cause and effect or pros and cons like humans; they did everything based on their mood at the moment. Yan Yu felt she didn’t necessarily have to train them to be as obedient as house pets.
Entering the room, she familiarly pressed her palm against the bouncy wall. Soon, a familiar water ball floated out, placing a worn-out pamphlet in her hand. On the open page, a spirit art was circled.
It was a transformation art that could change the shape and size of objects or even living things at will. Most importantly, the required soul power threshold was low, making it perfect for Yan Yu.
“DI WANG NU.” As soon as the incantation was uttered, the giant Lotus Bead grass Yan Yu was pointing at began to twitch. The leaves shook along with the swaying stem, and a blinding white light flashed…
It actually grew even larger.
Guipan and Yan Yu stared at each other, both wearing expressions of utter speechlessness.
“Master, my skin is thick. I’m not afraid of being hit. It’s fine if the mean big sister hits me a couple of times.”
“What are you saying?”
Yan Yu used a basic breathing technique to redistribute the soul power in her body, reducing the possibility of the art going out of control due to uneven power. She tried again.
“It worked!”
“Mm.” Yan Yu didn’t celebrate too early.
This little meatball had ruined a huge patch. Replanting just this one was far from enough. Thus, her “lighter” that was constantly on the verge of stalling started working again.
“DI WANG NU.”
“DI WANG NU…”
About three hours later, an exhausted Yan Yu led Guipan out of the Soul Domain.
“I’m going out for a bit. You two stay here and be good, okay? No trouble.”
“Got it.”
Lu Jia was always well-behaved; Yan Yu was mainly worried about the other one.
Guipan lowered its head and patted its belly with its paws. “Then remember to bring back food when you return, Master.”
“Okay.” Yan Yu smiled and patted its head.
Yan Yu picked up a basket full of Lotus Bead grass and followed her memory back to the Cobalt Rhodium Spring. She specifically avoided the time Yin Beiqing usually bathed according to the original book; sure enough, the place was empty when she arrived.
Walking to the flower bushes, she saw that the once neat and dense patch was now a mess, with several patches of soil left bare.
Resigned to her fate, Yan Yu pulled out a small trowel from her robes, cleared away several broken stalks, loosened the soil, and began planting the prepared Lotus Bead grass one by one.
“Oho!” A playful female voice rang out behind her.
Startled out of her concentration, Yan Yu instinctively turned to look.
A woman in a light blue dress was crouching behind her, smiling. Her face was only a fist’s distance away. This person had golden eyes with tiny pupils; being stared at closely by her gave a bone-chilling sensation.
The woman looked at the basket full of Lotus Bead grass, then at Yan Yu’s mud-stained hands and the trowel used for digging.
She seemed to understand everything instantly.
“Stealing fruit all the way out here?” The smile on her face widened. “This is the first time I’ve met someone even less afraid of death than me.”
