I Snatched the Male Lead’s "Cool Novel" Script - Chapter 10
Little Goddess?
In this world, as Spirit Power increases, lifespan also extends accordingly. So far, the longest-living female Animal Art Master has already celebrated her thousandth birthday.
Yan Yu herself was twenty-eight years old, while the original body had just turned forty. Yet Yin Beiqing was already ninety-nine years old. In comparison, wasn’t she indeed the little one?
Yan Yu could only swallow this grievance of being called “little.”
“Gurgle…”
The two stared at each other, speechless.
Yan Yu broke the awkwardness with a thick-skinned remark, “I’m hungry.”
“What, do you expect me to feed you?”
“That wouldn’t be impossible.”
“…”
Yin Beiqing had never encountered someone with Yan Yu’s temperament before. It seemed that no matter how sharp-tongued a person was, they could only be rendered speechless by her few calm and indifferent replies.
Yan Yu knew that this person usually didn’t keep maids in her room, but there were often guards at the door. She propped herself up, intending to ask for some food, but before she could even sit up, she was pushed back down.
“What are you moving around for?”
Yan Yu was pressed back onto the bed, her eyes filled with helplessness. “Do you really expect me to rely on you to feed me?”
“…” Yin Beiqing gritted her teeth so hard they nearly shattered. “Just you wait.”
If it weren’t for the steaming hot meal being brought to the table ten minutes later, Yan Yu would have thought Yin Beiqing’s next words would have been, “Wait until I deal with you.”
Two maids came over to help Yan Yu up. Yan Yu thanked them and glanced at the food on the table. The meal was better than expected, though the portions were a bit large.
The Kingdom of Jin was a gathering place for elite Animal Art Masters, and those with Spirit Power above the Jia level didn’t need to sleep, eat, or drink in their daily lives. As a result, the entertainment industry here was extremely developed, while the food industry struggled.
The meal on the table was a perfect example. The soup was a greasy hodgepodge, with animal innards, claws, brains, and eyeballs all tossed in together. Vegetables and white meat were simply steamed or boiled before being served, though the chefs here seasoned heavily, making the flavors excessively salty.
Yan Yu avoided the oily soup and picked up some leafy greens with her rice. At least there was something she could swallow.
She ate slowly and carefully, while Yin Beiqing watched from the side, propping her chin on her hand the entire time.
Yan Yu carried an innate calmness and elegance in her every move. Even when extremely hungry, her table manners remained impeccable—chewing slowly, with no food scraps left at the corners of her mouth or on the table.
“Is it good?”
“Passable.” Yan Yu gave a vague evaluation. Although she wasn’t picky, the food was indeed too salty to swallow easily. Still, adhering to the principle of not wasting food, she bravely finished the rice in her bowl.
“So even the Goddess needs to eat?”
“Yes, three meals a day, never missing one.” Yan Yu felt that Yin Beiqing was deliberately making small talk at this moment, as if she just wanted to provoke her a few times to feel satisfied.
Like a little brat.
Well, a little brat about to turn a hundred years old.
…
Lu Jia’s two claws clung to the windowsill, its feet swinging back and forth as it watched the passersby one by one. When it finally caught sight of the figure it had been longing for, it ran over with a face full of joy.
“Master, you’re back!”
Yesterday, Yan Yu had been carried away by Yin Beiqing and hadn’t returned all night. If it weren’t for the contract mark still being there, Lu Jia would have thought Yan Yu had already met a tragic end.
Yan Yu crouched down and extended her palm. Lu Jia immediately scurried up her arm to her shoulder, clinging with its claws, its tail hanging down and swaying back and forth.
“Have you eaten?”
“Yes, I have.” Lu Jia rubbed its head against her, the smooth, hard texture of its scales making Yan Yu feel a bit uncomfortable. “What about Gui Pan?”
“Gui Pan?” Mentioned like this, Yan Yu remembered—this seemed to be the name of the original body’s Animal Spirit.
All Animal Spirits are born with their names, and their surnames are divided into eight ancient clans: Ji, Gui, Si, Ying, Ji, Yao, Jiang, and Yun. Those with the same surname belong to the same maternal lineage, so her Gui Pan and Yin Beiqing’s Gui Lian are Animal Spirits from the same clan.
That little meatball, who calls itself “Panpan” every day, should actually be saying “Panpan” as “Panpan.”
Yan Yu formed a hand seal and probed her inner consciousness, discovering the little meatball lying on its back in the Spirit Domain, gnawing on a green plant twice its height. Its round head was tilted, its expression slightly fierce, but its gluttonous nature was unmistakable.
Yan Yu found it strange. The Spirit Domain had been empty the last time she visited, so how had such a large plant appeared out of nowhere? She continued to probe deeper with her consciousness and realized it was far more than just this. The vast open space in front of the small hut was now covered with green plants taller than a person.
Upon closer inspection, these plants had short, thick leaves covered in white fuzz and thorns, thick roots, and round, red fruits. They looked very similar to the Lotus Pearl Grass growing beside the Cobalt-Rhodium Spring, with the only difference being their size. The Lotus Pearl Fruits by the Cobalt-Rhodium Spring were barely the size of a palm, while the fruits here were larger than a human head.
“Master?” Gui Pan seemed to have noticed her, turning its head. The white fur on its cheeks was smeared with red fruit juice, making it look adorably silly.
“Master, you should eat too! It’s very nourishing!” It had expended a lot of Spirit Power last night to maintain the defensive barrier, so these fruits were perfect for replenishing its energy.
“Where did these fruits come from?” Yan Yu entered the Spirit Domain to speak with it.
“I picked them.” Its eyes widened into perfect circles. “Right by that pond, they were very obvious. I grabbed a handful and scattered them here, and these things just sprouted up in an instant.”
A handful?
Yan Yu looked at the seemingly endless green expanse. This “handful” was more than what a whole sack could hold.
She sighed deeply, looking at Gui Pan, who was grinning foolishly, waiting for praise.
“You really know how to make trouble for me.”
Lotus Pearl Grass has strict growing conditions, requiring specific temperature, humidity, and even irrigation water, making it extremely rare. Losing one or two might go unnoticed, but her Animal Spirit had practically cleared the entire area.
Yan Yu didn’t even dare to imagine how furious Yin Beiqing would be when she found out, or how gruesome her own death would be.
Animal Spirits share a connection with their master’s consciousness, and Gui Pan sensed that Yan Yu wasn’t very happy at the moment.
It ran over, tugging at Yan Yu’s skirt with its claws. “Are you unhappy? Are you afraid of that fierce sister? It’s okay, I’ll protect you.”
“I’m not unhappy.” Yan Yu didn’t plan to hold it against it. “But next time, before taking anything from someone else, you need to ask me first.”
Innocent, straightforward, and driven by instinct—these are the characteristics of Animal Spirits. They don’t think about cause and effect or pros and cons like humans do; they act entirely based on their mood in the moment. Yan Yu felt she didn’t need to train them to be as obedient as domesticated pets.
Entering the room, she pressed her palm against the smooth, elastic wall with practiced ease. Soon, a familiar water sphere floated out, placing a tattered booklet in her hand. On the open page, a Spiritual Technique was circled.
It was a shape-shifting technique that could alter the form and size of objects, even living beings. The main advantage was its low Spirit Power threshold, making it particularly suitable for Yan Yu.
“DI WANG NU.” As the incantation left her lips, the giant lotus pearl grass she pointed at began to convulse. Its leaves trembled along with the swaying roots, and a blinding white light flashed…
It had actually grown even larger.
Gui Pan and Yan Yu exchanged glances, both wearing expressions of speechless dismay.
“Master, my skin is thick. I’m not afraid of being hit. It’s fine if the fierce sister strikes me a few times.”
“What are you talking about?”
Yan Yu redistributed the Spirit Power within her body using a basic breath-control technique, reducing the risk of the Spiritual Technique spiraling out of control due to uneven Spirit Power, and tried again.
“Success!”
“Mhm.” Yan Yu didn’t celebrate too soon.
This little meatball had destroyed a large patch of someone else’s garden. Planting just one back was far from enough, so her nearly extinguished flame flickered back to life and resumed its work.
“DI WANG NU.”
“DI WANG NU…”
Approximately three hours later, an utterly exhausted Yan Yu led Gui Pan out of the Spirit Domain.
“I’m going out for a bit. You two behave and don’t cause trouble, alright?”
“Understood.”
Lu Jia was always well-behaved; Yan Yu’s main concern was the one beside him.
Gui Pan lowered its head, patting its belly with a claw. “Then remember to bring back food when you return, Master.”
“Alright.” Yan Yu smiled and patted its head.
Carrying a basket filled with lotus pearl grass, Yan Yu followed the route from memory to the Cobalt-Rhodium Spring. She deliberately avoided the time mentioned in the original book when Yin Beiqing usually bathed, and as expected, the place was empty when she arrived.
Approaching the patch of grass to inspect it, she found the once neat and lush flower bed in complete disarray, with several patches of soil completely bare.
Resigned, Yan Yu pulled out the small shovel from her pocket, cleared away the broken plants, loosened the soil, and carefully planted the prepared lotus pearl grass, one by one.
“Well, well!” A teasing female voice sounded behind her.
Startled while focused on her task, Yan Yu instinctively turned to look.
A woman in a light blue gown was crouching behind her, smiling playfully. Her face was only a fist’s distance away, and her golden eyes had small pupils that, when stared into closely, sent a chilling sensation down one’s spine.
The woman glanced at Yan Yu’s basket full of lotus pearl grass, her dirt-covered hands, and the shovel she used for digging.
She seemed to understand everything in an instant.
“Stealing fruit all the way here?” The smile on her lips gradually widened. “First time I’ve seen someone even more reckless than me.”
