I Snatched the Male Lead’s "Cool Novel" Script - Chapter 37
7:00 p.m.
Lin Hegui set a pot of water to boil and began making dinner. This was her habit. Although she could survive without eating, unless some urgent matter delayed her, she always ate three meals a day.
Her appetite was average today, so she only dropped some thin-skinned wontons into the pot. After the water boiled, she added a few drops of sesame oil, some seaweed, and shredded egg. With a few stirs of the soup ladle, the fragrance of the noodles immediately rose.
“Sister, the food you’re cooking smells so good.”
Thanks to the enthusiastic feeding from the You tribespeople, Panpan had grown several circles fatter than when it was in Langdie Valley. The fur on its body was thick and dense, and its face had become much rounder.
While drooling, it circled around Lin Hegui’s feet. From time to time, like a little dog, it straightened its upper body, rested its paws on the stove, and used its tongue to roll away the bits of shredded egg that had fallen outside the pot.
Lin Hegui touched its head. “You really should eat more. Only by growing sturdier can you work for your master.”
“I’m very sturdy!” Panpan pointed at Lujia, who was curled into a ball beside them, then pointed at itself, which looked especially tall in comparison. It raised both paws into fists and, imitating a gorilla, pounded its chest a few times. “Awooo, awooo! No one can bully my master.”
Lin Hegui was amused by its foolish appearance and laughed a few times, shaking her head. “No, you still need to get sturdier.”
As she spoke, she put the lid on the pot and walked outside. Before long, she came back holding several long, slender stalks of Hua tangerine bamboo and apples. “Eat some of these first to fill your stomach. Don’t spend all day eating those things with no nutrition. You won’t grow taller.”
When Panpan saw the bamboo, its eyes lit up. It immediately pounced over. “I like crunchy sticks! I like crunchy sticks!”
“This is Hua tangerine bamboo.” Lin Hegui corrected it, then picked up an apple and handed it to Lujia, who looked rather shy beside them. “Here, you eat too. It’s very sweet.”
“Th-thank you.” Lujia blinked and stretched out its two shorter front claws to hold the huge apple.
After climbing the mountain for an entire day, it was indeed a little hungry.
Crunch, crunch… The two little gluttons sat side by side, one gnawing bamboo and the other gnawing an apple.
The bigger one ate quickly. After finishing the bamboo, it soon set its sights on the apple in the smaller one’s hands.
“It looks really tasty too.”
“Here…” Lujia handed the remaining half of the apple to it. “It really is very sweet.”
“No, no, no.” Panpan wiped its drool and still refused with great principles. “If Master finds out, she’ll say I bullied you again.”
“I’ll help explain. You didn’t bully me.”
“Then… then I’ll only take one bite.” The little fatty ultimately failed to escape the temptation of greed. It found an excuse for itself. “You said before that you don’t like sweet things. I’m helping, not bullying.”
“All right.” Lujia smiled good-temperedly.
…
Lin Hegui brought the finished wontons to Yan Yu and the others. The others were used to the strong seasonings of Langdie Valley, so they were somewhat unaccustomed to drinking this wonton soup.
But Yan Yu was different.
It had been a long time since she had tasted small wontons that suited her palate so well. The skin was thin, the meat fragrant, and when the shredded egg and seaweed in the soup were swallowed together, it warmed her stomach and felt comfortable. Moreover, like her mother, Lin Hegui did not like adding too much salt to food, which made Yan Yu feel especially close to her.
“Your cooking is really good.” Yan Yu held the bowl she had drunk to the bottom and praised her sincerely.
“You’re the first person to praise my cooking.” Lin Hegui was still chewing slowly. She ate very slowly. “Anyone who has tasted my cooking said it was too bland and that they couldn’t taste anything.”
“I’ve always liked light food.” Yan Yu smiled.
Yin Beiqing, who had been quietly drinking soup at the side, raised her head when she heard this and looked at the two talking happily. Her brows lowered, her thin lips pressed together, and a strange irritation spread through her heart.
What was so good about soup that tasted like plain water?
This sickly weakling really had no taste.
“If you like it, I’ll serve you another bowl.”
Yan Yu waved her hand. “No, if I eat too much, I’ll get indigestion.”
This body was very delicate.
“That’s true.”
After dinner, Zhongpu took the initiative to handle washing the dishes. Lin Hegui changed into a clean set of clothes and had Yan Yu and Yin Beiqing enter the inner room together.
When Yan Yu and the others entered, Lin Hegui had already placed many consultation tools on the table. She raised a hand and beckoned Yin Beiqing, signaling for her to sit on the stool.
“Stretch out your hand.”
Yin Beiqing did not move.
“Teacher Lin is calling you.” Yan Yu patted her.
Only then did a certain person slowly stretch out her hand. Lin Hegui placed her fingers on it and sent her spiritual awareness into Yin Beiqing’s body to sense her condition.
The moment she probed in, Lin Hegui felt her spiritual awareness being blocked by a powerful force. She tried to go around it, but no matter how flexibly she tried to find another direction, the other party could always surround her very quickly from elsewhere and drive her away.
She sighed and let go. “Child, are you asking me to treat your illness, or are you trying to fight me?”
“Teacher Lin, what’s wrong?”
“She won’t even let my spiritual awareness probe in. How am I supposed to examine her?”
Yan Yu wanted to say, how could that be? She had probed in very smoothly before.
“Are you very nervous?” She bent down and asked Yin Beiqing. “Relax a little.”
Yin Beiqing kept a straight face. “I’m not.”
If she said she was not, then she probably was not. After all, this was an ancestor who disdained lying very much.
Yan Yu guessed that what Yin Beiqing meant by “I’m not” was probably that she was not deliberately targeting Lin Hegui. It was likely that no matter whose spiritual awareness probed in, the result would be about the same.
“This child’s guard is too strong.” After trying several times and still failing, Lin Hegui finally gave up. She shook her head and released her hand. “This won’t work at all.”
“Mm…” Yan Yu pondered. “What if we wait until she falls asleep, when her resistance isn’t so strong, and probe then?”
“That method is good.” Lin Hegui nodded. “I happen to have stored some sleeping pills. Feed some to your friend, and within a few minutes, she should fall asleep.”
Hearing the two openly conspire to “enter while she slept,” Yin Beiqing sensitively raised her head and looked cautiously at Yan Yu. “No.”
Yan Yu found her reaction a little funny and asked, “It’s only examining you while you sleep. Could I possibly harm you?”
You wouldn’t, Yin Beiqing answered in her heart. Then her gaze slowly turned toward Lin Hegui.
The latter froze, then also laughed. “Since I have taken Little Yu as my disciple, I naturally regard her as one of my own. You are her friend, so of course I won’t harm you either.”
“You took her as your master?” Yin Beiqing frowned.
“Teacher Lin’s Healing Arts are outstanding. She is willing to make an exception and accept me as a disciple, so I should be grateful.” Yan Yu said this tactfully.
This was simply a wonderful opportunity one could only encounter by chance. If her Healing Arts improved, then if anything happened to the people of Langdie Valley in the future, they would not need to cross mountains and rivers to beg others for help.
But Yin Beiqing looked rather unhappy, and she had no intention of enduring this displeasure. She directly asked, “Then what about me?”
“What do you mean?”
“Didn’t you ask me to teach you? Why did you suddenly take her as your master?” Yin Beiqing’s gaze locked tightly onto Yan Yu, making the latter feel that if the answer she gave in the next second did not satisfy this person, she would absolutely explode on the spot.
“Your spiritual arts are invincible, and Teacher Lin’s Healing Arts are outstanding.” Yan Yu took her hand, then took Lin Hegui’s, forcibly placing them together. “Dual cultivation of spiritual arts and healing. Both of you are masters I respect.”
Yan Yu felt that she had balanced things this fairly, so this ancestor’s expression should have looked better. Unexpectedly, Yin Beiqing opened and closed her mouth and said another heart-piercing sentence.
“Do you not know that your physical arts are the part dragging you down the most?”
“…”
Yan Yu wisely chose to shut up and immediately turned to ask Lin Hegui, “Teacher Lin, where are the sleeping pills? Let’s feed them to her now.”
Once she was asleep, surely she would stop saying such punchable words to stab people, right?
Lin Hegui did not hesitate. She opened a porcelain bottle and poured more than a dozen pills into Yan Yu’s hand. “This should be about enough. With this dosage, even an elephant could be knocked out.”
Yan Yu shook her head firmly. “Add a little more. She usually doesn’t like sleeping much.”
“That works too.” Lin Hegui shook her hand, pouring out another five or six. “In any case, it won’t kill her. At worst, she’ll sleep a couple more days.”
Yin Beiqing, who was lying on the bed and waiting to be slaughtered, gritted her teeth in restraint. “Can you two speak a little more quietly?”
“Mm, all right.” Yan Yu held the pills and walked toward her, sat by the bed, and revealed a smile so gentle it was a little excessive. “Come, take your medicine.”
Yin Beiqing raised her eyes to look at her. “Do you know that right now, you look like you’re about to drug me?”
Yan Yu narrowed her eyes and said softly, “That’s right. Aren’t I feeding you medicine?”
“Yan Yu, you’re really something.”
“Come, open your mouth.”
Yin Beiqing’s eyes looked as if she wanted to swallow someone alive, but her mouth opened quite quickly.
Yan Yu had great confidence in her physical constitution, so her hand did not shake at all as she decisively stuffed all the pills in.
Not one was left.
But after ten whole minutes passed, Yin Beiqing still lay on the bed with her eyes open, completely awake and without the slightest sleepiness.
“Not sleepy?”
Yin Beiqing lifted her eyelids and looked at her. She did not need to speak; one glance conveyed everything.
Yan Yu understood instantly. That sentence should be:
“Are you and your Teacher Lin incapable?”
She refused to believe this!
Two doctors put together could not knock down one person? Yan Yu put down the bowl and tied up her hair, looking as if if Yin Beiqing did not sleep right now, she would personally go up and strangle her unconscious.
However, although her posture was fierce, when it finally landed on this ancestor, it became gentle drizzle.
If hard methods did not work, then soft methods had to be used.
Yan Yu found Golden Vine Flowers among Lin Hegui’s rich medicinal herb collection, ground them up, added them into incense, and lit it.
Then she specially stuffed a soft, springy pillow under Yin Beiqing’s head. “Like this, you can fall asleep, right?”
“I’m afraid not.”
“What else do you want?”
Yin Beiqing suddenly smiled. Yan Yu’s face was reflected in her eyes as she pushed her luck. “You.”
That was actually not false.
She had never had the habit of sleeping. What she could remember now was that one time when she had shared a pillow with Yan Yu.
“Uh…” Lin Hegui pointed at the door. “How about I go out for a while and come back later?”
She put away the things and walked out. After only a few steps, she hesitated and came back, pulling a wooden stick as thick as an arm from her sleeve and placing it on the table.
“If it really doesn’t work, use this.”
If soft methods did not work, they could still return to hard methods.
