I Snatched the Male Lead’s "Cool Novel" Script - Chapter 50
When they had just arrived in the afternoon, Yan Yu had sent Lin Hegui a message through the spirit mirror. However, Lin Hegui happened to have been summoned by the empress, so the two of them only spoke for a few sentences before hurriedly ending the conversation.
They would be staying at this inn until school began. In other words, at least five days.
After Yan Yu simply took out her things and arranged them, she removed the sachet she carried with her and placed it into the incense burner on the table.
With the familiar scent and the fatigue from sitting in the carriage for so long, she did not have much of an adjustment period for an unfamiliar bed. Very quickly, she fell asleep.
When she woke again, the sky had already darkened. Yan Yu rubbed her waist, got up, and walked to the window. Following the lively voices, she looked down.
The capital city was far more prosperous than she had imagined. People of different races came and went, interspersed with Beast Souls of all kinds of forms. To her eyes as a twenty-first-century human, the scene was absolutely novel.
But from the clothes and accessories worn by the people of the capital city, one could tell that the living conditions here were more than just a little better than elsewhere. Moreover, it seemed the later it got, the livelier the streets became.
At six in the evening, the restaurants and pleasure houses had just opened. By seven or eight, the number of people coming and going gradually increased.
At this moment, Yan Yu was leaning by the windowsill, her gaze casually sweeping back and forth across the entrance of the pleasure house directly opposite her room.
She saw a young man in a thin gauze top smiling charmingly as he welcomed richly dressed women and men inside. But when no one was around, the expression on his face immediately turned numb, as if even tugging the corner of his mouth would use up the last of his strength.
Because her eyesight was much better than before, Yan Yu only had to narrow her eyes slightly to see the uneven bruises on the exposed parts of the young man’s neck and wrists.
She sighed and put away her useless compassion. Just as she was about to raise her hand and close the window, choosing not to look, her ears keenly caught the sound of a bell.
It was as crisp as in her memory, with an echo longer and deeper than an ordinary bell.
Her breathing stopped in an instant. Yan Yu widened her eyes and looked at the pleasure house again.
At some point, a new customer had already been welcomed at the entrance. That person wore a black dress made of stiff material. Her skin was very white, and over it, she casually draped a long white coat with golden patterns. Her iconic long golden hair was tied into a low ponytail, falling behind her and swaying beautifully with her movements.
“This one, then.” The woman opened her mouth with a somewhat indifferent attitude.
The thin-gauzed young man who had been chosen immediately began trembling uncontrollably. His shoulders hunched, as if the exquisite and beautiful woman before him were a terrifying monster, no different from a flood or savage beast.
“Ah, right…” The woman stopped just as she was stepping through the door, then suddenly raised her head and looked precisely toward Yan Yu’s window.
After confirming from Yan Yu’s shocked expression that she had already recognized her, the smile in her eyes gradually widened, and the corner of her mouth lifted gently along with it.
Then Yan Yu saw her open her mouth and silently mouth a few words to her.
“We meet again, Lady Goddess.”
Yu Fusang had clearly not moved, but Yan Yu seemed to hear that jingling bell again. It struck heavily, instantly pulling every nerve in her body taut.
Cold sweat began to form in her palms. Her fingers gripping the window frame tightened uncontrollably, her nails digging into the wooden frame. Her body wanted to move, but under the other party’s powerful mental suppression, she was frozen in place.
A soul-bewitching art. A Beast Arts Master with sufficient skill could cast it with just one meeting of eyes. But Yu Fusang did not seem to intend to kill her. Instead, in a pleasant mood, she began admiring Yan Yu’s struggling expression.
This feeling of her brain being unable to control her own body was not pleasant for Yan Yu either. Her expression quickly turned ugly.
Knock, knock— Two knocks sounded at the door, neither light nor heavy.
As if she had found a life-saving straw, Yan Yu instantly came back to herself. She hurriedly moved her gaze away, swiftly shut the window, and leaned her back against the wall, breathing rapidly after that narrow escape.
Knock, knock, knock— The door was knocked again. “Are you all right?”
Even through a door, Yin Beiqing could sense that the soul power fluctuations inside Yan Yu’s body were currently extremely chaotic. If she had not made up her mind to restrain her behavior, she would have pushed the door open without a word long ago.
Yan Yu raised her hand and locked the window. After adjusting her breathing, her complexion looked much better than before. She checked her expression once in the mirror before going to open the door for Yin Beiqing.
“Looking for me?”
Even though Yan Yu had deliberately tidied herself up, Yin Beiqing still did not miss her abnormally pale complexion. Clearly, over the past two days, Yan Yu’s condition had already been improving day by day.
Her gaze swept over the room behind Yan Yu, but she found nothing unusual, so she asked, “What were you doing just now? Your soul power fluctuations were very fast.”
Yan Yu’s thoughts were currently chaotic. Without thinking, she replied, “It has nothing to do with you.”
Only after saying it did she realize how cold her tone was. She immediately raised her head and looked at Yin Beiqing warily, worried that she would be set off.
Yin Beiqing took in the sight of her taking half a step back, but her emotions did not erupt as expected. Instead, she said to Yan Yu in a terrifyingly calm voice, “I won’t hurt you.”
“…I know.” Yan Yu licked her dry lips, then somewhat clumsily picked up a random topic to replace the current awkwardness. “What did you come to me for?”
But Yin Beiqing ignored her words and threw another question at her. “Are you angry?”
Angry?
More than Yin Beiqing asking this question, Yan Yu was surprised that she could actually notice such a thing.
After all, this person was used to doing as she pleased. When had she ever cared about other people’s moods, let alone whether the other party was angry?
In the rules she made, there was only whether someone had been beaten into submission.
“I’m fine.” Feeling the other party’s softened attitude, Yan Yu answered like this.
To be honest, she had indeed had some negative emotions at first, but she had also quickly sorted them out herself. After breaking down each reason in her head one by one, the problem became much clearer.
Beginning to recognize and accept one’s negative emotions was equivalent to solving most of them. This had always been her way of handling this kind of situation.
“I want to go in.” Yin Beiqing said again with a wooden face.
That was fine, she supposed…
After all, problems always had to be solved. She was almost thirty. Yan Yu could not tolerate herself still acting like a middle schooler, cutting off all contact the moment there was an awkward quarrel.
She loosened her grip on the doorframe and opened the door inward, adopting the attitude of normally welcoming a guest. “Water or tea?”
“Whatever.” A completely Yin Beiqing-style answer.
“All right.”
Yan Yu really did casually pour her a cup of cold water. Yin Beiqing picked it up and took a symbolic sip, then quickly put it down. After that, she kept sitting there without moving or speaking, but her gaze remained fixed tightly on Yan Yu.
The latter upheld the principle of “if the enemy does not move, I do not move” and remained calm. She even had the leisure to boil hot water and make herself tea.
But the tea in her hand was almost finished, and the person across from her still had not moved.
Anyone who did not know better might think she had moved a statue in to guard the house.
“If you have nothing to say…”
“I do.” Yin Beiqing answered very quickly.
Yan Yu nodded and raised her eyes to meet her gaze. “Then say it.”
Under her gaze, Yin Beiqing’s complexion became somewhat ugly. She pressed her lips into a straight line, then squeezed out a sentence through the gap, so fast it was almost impossible to catch.
“Sorry.”
Clearly, she was saying sorry, but the way she looked at Yan Yu made it seem as though she were the one who had suffered a great grievance.
Yan Yu did not know why, but suddenly felt like laughing.
However, actually laughing in this atmosphere would be far too impolite.
“This is what you wanted to hear, right?” Yin Beiqing added another sentence, with a tone that sounded like, whether this was what you wanted or not, I’ve already said it, so you must forgive me.
“So you don’t really want to apologize?” Yan Yu propped her chin on her right hand, her probing gaze sweeping over the expression on Yin Beiqing’s face.
“I do.” Yin Beiqing answered with furrowed brows, her tone as stiff as could be.
It seemed this really was her first time doing something like this. Not only was she unskilled, every part of her revealed resistance.
Yan Yu tapped the fingers she had propped on the table, suddenly feeling interested. “All right. Then tell me, what do you think you did wrong?”
“…”
Yan Yu waited patiently for a while. After confirming that even if she kept asking, she would not get any satisfying answer, she let out a long sigh.
Some things indeed had to proceed step by step. She knew now was not the best time. After all, just reaching the step of saying sorry was already a compromise this person would absolutely never have made before.
Yan Yu was not satisfied with the result this time, but there would be plenty of time in the future. After thinking it through, she finally said, “Then just take it that I’ve accepted your apology too.”
There was another long silence, but the emotions in Yin Beiqing’s eyes were clearly more complicated than before.
“It’s different.”
“Mm?” Yan Yu was puzzled. “What’s different?”
Yin Beiqing’s gaze looked straight at her. “Before, you weren’t like this toward me.”
Her purpose was to return to their previous way of interacting, but this current atmosphere, more distant than any other time, made her uncomfortable all over.
The voice in her heart had already screamed countless times, telling her to ignore everything, chain Yan Yu up, and lock her in a place only she knew. But every time, she remembered the way Yan Yu had looked at her that day.
Without any emotion, as if looking at a dead object that had nothing to do with her.
She never wanted to see that a second time.
Ripples began to form in the water inside the teacup. Yan Yu shifted her gaze and noticed that Yin Beiqing’s clenched fist had tightened so much that her knuckles were turning white. The bulging veins on her arm symbolized that her endurance was about to reach its limit.
She froze for a moment, realizing that she seemed to have always underestimated how sensitive Yin Beiqing’s mind was.
Indeed, Yin Beiqing usually looked as though she only knew fighting and killing, as if she cared about nothing. But the delicacy within her heart was probably greater than anyone else’s.
The place where Yan Yu’s heart was suddenly tightened, as though gripped tightly by a pair of hands.
Yan Yu raised her hand and pinched the bridge of her nose, beginning to rethink her own behavior. Had she also been led astray by this person earlier, engaging in a meaningless, childish cold war?
It was clearly the kind of way of handling things she had once looked down on most. But once she had become one of the people involved, she had fallen into it without even realizing.
Just as Yin Beiqing was about to give up resisting the voice inside her heart, from the corner of her eye, she saw a white skirt enter her field of vision.
She slowly raised her head. In her vision, Yan Yu’s raised hand kept approaching her. When she clearly felt it finally land on the top of her head, Yin Beiqing’s breathing stopped.
Yan Yu pressed down on her hair and gently patted her, just like the countless times she had done to Panpan and the others before. Her voice carried a hint of helplessness. “Like this, is it enough?”
Yin Beiqing stared unblinkingly at Yan Yu’s face, reluctant to blink and miss her expression at this moment.
She was satisfied, but her heart began to itch. It traveled deeper and deeper, becoming an increasingly unbearable craving she could not ignore.
If she could correctly interpret her own heart, Yin Beiqing would know that this was called pushing her luck.
She removed her mask, took Yan Yu’s hand, pressed it to her own cheek, rubbed against it, then pressed her lips to it.
“I want more.”
