Summary
Synopsis:
Ji Lanyin had drifted through the first twenty years of her life in a daze. Then, while taking a brief nap at the Hundred Flowers Banquet, she suddenly learned in a dream that she was the so-called “female lead of an angst novel.”
Half a cup of tea from now, she would accidentally fall into the water on the grounds of her own princess estate and be rescued by Gu Xuan, the heir of Prince Wu’an. The two would then be forced into an engagement. After their marriage, Gu Xuan would bring a concubine into the household. At the concubine’s instigation, he would beat, berate, and humiliate Ji Lanyin at every turn, force her to kneel in the snow, and even have flesh carved from her body and blood drained from her veins to cure the concubine when she fell ill. Eventually, overcome by despair, Ji Lanyin would fake her death.
After her “death,” Gu Xuan would be consumed by belated regret and act as though he were deeply devoted to her. Later, upon discovering the trail she had left while fleeing, he would travel thousands of miles to find her and confess his true feelings. Ji Lanyin would then lower her defenses, and the two of them would reconcile.
An unfamiliar voice clamored in her ears, “Follow the script and get your HE with him! Follow the script and get your HE with him!”
Ji Lanyin refused to believe any of it. She deliberately made it look as though her foot had slipped. In the next instant, the Xie family’s unfavored legitimate daughter leaped in after her as though in a trance. When Ji Lanyin began struggling to breathe, the girl aimed directly for her lips and kissed her.
Ji Lanyin: “???”
Ji Lanyin did not like Xie Ling’an.
She did not like her misty, watery eyes. She did not like her delicate posture, as though even the slightest breeze might topple her. Nor did she like the way Xie Ling’an softened her voice whenever she called her “Sister.”
Xie Ling’an was the “green-tea” concubine from her dream—the one who loved sowing discord and even wanted to drink the blood from Ji Lanyin’s heart.
While they were admiring plum blossoms on a snowy day, Gu Xuan tried to drape a cloak over Ji Lanyin’s shoulders, only for Xie Ling’an to soil it. The young woman stared up at her with panicked, moist black eyes, yet she still held Ji Lanyin’s icy fingertips between her hands, breathing warm air over them and cupping them to keep them warm.
At a crab banquet in the imperial palace, Xie Ling’an squeezed past Gu Xuan while he was chatting and laughing with Ji Lanyin. Tilting up her small face, she offered Ji Lanyin a piece of snow-white crabmeat she had peeled herself.
“This subject’s daughter is incapable and only knows how to perform such trivial tasks. I would never allow something like this to soil Your Highness’s hands.”
Suppressed by her imperial father and made to suffer by her mother, the empress, Ji Lanyin sank into gloom. In the silent dead of night, Xie Ling’an boldly climbed into her bed as well, combing her fingers through Ji Lanyin’s hair, singing to her, and soothing her troubles.
Ji Lanyin: “This is what counts as green tea?”
A blessing this wonderful ought to belong to her.
My Heart Whispers was a historical angst novel. Although the female lead, Ji Lanyin, held the title of princess, she was foolishly love-addled. Because of a marriage agreement, she was married to the male lead and thereafter subjected to both emotional and physical torment.
The male lead’s white moonlight was a scheming green tea. She hated the female lead for occupying the position of principal wife while she herself could only enter the household as a lowly concubine. She incited the male lead to abuse the female lead for more than a hundred chapters, then pretended to fall ill so that he would have flesh carved from the female lead’s body and her blood drained.
After the female lead faked her death, the male lead went through an entire series of remorseful stunts and won her back. Together, the two of them tortured the female supporting character to death. The entire story reeked of clichéd melodrama.
After finishing the novel, Xie Ling’an cursed it at the top of her lungs. When she woke up the following morning, she had transmigrated into the green-tea supporting character.
Xie Ling’an: “…It’s fine. It’s only green-tea scheming. She knows how to handle this one.”
Whenever the male and female leads went on a date, she sabotaged it. Whenever they met, she shamelessly made a scene. After an entire series of such maneuvers, she finally severed their romantic storyline so thoroughly that not even the dregs remained.
Xie Ling’an packed her belongings that very night and prepared to flee.
But that same night, Princess Lanyin reclined against a beauty couch with one fragrant shoulder exposed, her warm breath brushing Xie Ling’an’s ear.
“Ling’an is most skilled at climbing into my bed. So why are you crying tonight?”
#How did the female lead of a heterosexual romance turn gay? Is there no justice left in this world?#
#I acted like a green tea, but the one I targeted was the female lead.#

[Reading Guide]
- Ji Lanyin is the gong, and the story is told primarily from her perspective. One is an awakened character; the other transmigrated into a book.
- Both leads are each other’s first and only. None of the events in the dream actually happened.
- The shou is deeply closeted. The gong is genuinely straight before being bent, but she will not have any romantic storyline with a man.
