My classmate seems to want to have s*x with me - Chapter 64
For Ding Chen, life wasn’t that difficult.
Although her family wasn’t wealthy, they had enough to eat and wear, and they could even afford to send her to tutoring classes. She wasn’t a genius, but she had some cleverness. As long as she followed the path laid out by society, nothing much should trouble her, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
The higher the grades, the better. Future prospects were measured by salary. The priority order for desired schools went from high to low entrance requirements; she’d go wherever she could get in.
There was nothing she needed to think about, and nothing in particular she wanted.
That’s how it was supposed to be.
At the end of October, the nights were already a bit chilly. Ding Chen, draped in her school jacket, was furiously writing in the classroom. A third of the problems on the entire page of math questions were circled, indicating problems she couldn’t solve or had gotten wrong.
Looking at so many circles made Ding Chen’s head ache a little. If her pitiful math score didn’t improve, things would get really bad.
In the blank space, she wrote down her latest mock exam results. This was already the third mock exam. The last one would be in mid-December, and the official exams were in January.
The good news was that her overall grades were improving consistently. The bad news was that her math hadn’t improved at all.
With her current scores, she definitely wouldn’t be able to go to the same school as Qiu Yanzhen.
Of course, it was better to aim for higher scores, but she hadn’t originally been so fixated on getting into the top universities.
Ding Chen irritably underlined her math score, one line after another, making the line thick and black.
The bell for break time rang at that moment. Several students in the classroom got up one after another to stretch. Some left the classroom to get the snacks distributed by the school, while others went to the sports field to stroll and chat in groups.
Ding Chen closed her eyes and lay face down on her desk. Her imagination started to run wild, thinking about life at the same university as Qiu Yanzhen. They could choose interesting classes together, participate in fun activities together, go out and play everywhere together…
Thinking about this, the somewhat dejected Ding Chen perked up a little. She took her water bottle and walked out, meeting Zhou Qian’an at the water dispenser, who had come out a step earlier.
After filling their water bottles, the two planned to chat for a while in the less crowded stairwell. Unexpectedly, they came face to face with a young couple kissing.
Ding Chen and Zhou Qian’an awkwardly covered their eyes, not daring to look for even a second longer, and turned around to run away without looking back.
The teachers’ offices were located on the floor above their classroom. At this time, no one would go upstairs, so the two never thought they would encounter anyone in the stairwell, let alone stumble upon such a scene.
“That startled me,” Ding Chen said while going down the stairs. “Luckily it wasn’t someone we knew, otherwise it would have been even more awkward.”
“…When you do that kind of thing yourself, why don’t you feel awkward?” Zhou Qian’an said.
“We weren’t in the stairwell…” The denial stopped abruptly. Ding Chen suddenly remembered being confessed to by Qiu Yanzhen in the stairwell on her birthday, and almost being kissed.
That should count as an attempt, right?
“We haven’t kissed in the stairwell.”
“So you’ve kissed in other places then.” Zhou Qian’an seized on Ding Chen’s small slip of the tongue and wouldn’t let go. “And what was that pause just now? What did you guys do in the stairwell?”
Ding Chen gave a guilty chuckle. She was really annoyed by Zhou Qian’an’s sharp intuition.
“Also, who asked you if you and Qiu Yanzhen had kissed in the stairwell?” Zhou Qian’an didn’t care about Ding Chen’s feelings at all, and rattled off, “I’m talking about what you did on the Ferris wheel during the graduation trip.”
Ding Chen became embarrassed and angry. “Stop it! Will you die if you don’t talk?”
“Why are you being so fierce? Are you shy?”
The two playfully bickered their way to the first floor. Their usual stairwell was occupied, so they decided to grab some cookies and walk and eat by the sports field, and also take a breather.
“By the way, where are you planning to apply? I don’t think I’ve heard you say.”
“Probably veterinary medicine,” Zhou Qian’an finished off a small bag of cookies in a few bites and took out another from her pocket, tearing it open. “I’ll go to whichever veterinary school I can get into.”
Ding Chen chewed on a cookie. “Really?”
“Is it weird?”
“No, I’m just a little surprised.”
After entering senior year, some students started developing the habit of running to have enough energy to study. Ding Chen and Zhou Qian’an walked side by side along the outermost edge of the track, leaving the inner lanes for the runners. Most of the other students on the sports field were like them, walking and chatting, while some sat in small groups in the middle of the field.
“What about you? Where are you going?” Zhou Qian’an asked.
“I don’t know,” Ding Chen looked down at the red track. “X University, maybe.”
X University was recognized as the best school, so even less popular departments had high admission scores.
Zhou Qian’an was surprised. “Choosing the school, not the department?”
“Not exactly…” Ding Chen replied softly, her voice sounding a little weak.
The two were silent for a while. Zhou Qian’an suddenly turned to look at Ding Chen as if she had figured something out. “Are you going to apply to the same school as Qiu Yanzhen?”
Ding Chen awkwardly smoothed her hair but didn’t deny it.
“This… won’t it… feel…” Zhou Qian’an hesitated for a moment. “Wouldn’t it be better to study what you like?”
“Anyway, there’s nothing in particular I really want to study.”
Ding Chen walked with her head down, inevitably thinking again about her terrible math scores, her brow furrowing unconsciously.
Zhou Qian’an’s gaze casually swept across the night campus. After a moment, she asked, “What about Qiu Yanzhen? What is she going to apply for?”
“Veterinary medicine.”
“What?” Zhou Qian’an instantly retracted her wandering gaze. “Wouldn’t that mean one less spot for me in veterinary medicine?”
“I’m kidding.”
“…Do you want to get beaten up?” Zhou Qian’an squinted at Ding Chen.
“She said she wants to study law,” Ding Chen’s expression relaxed a little. “She seems to be considering dentistry too.”
Zhou Qian’an immediately spotted a problem. “Then how are you sure she’ll go to X University? Maybe she’ll get into a different university.”
Ding Chen’s brow, which had just relaxed, furrowed again. “Are you cursing her?”
“Damn it, is that what you call a curse?” Zhou Qian’an rolled her eyes. “I’m making a rational analysis, okay?”
Ding Chen knew that Zhou Qian’an made sense, but she firmly believed that Qiu Yanzhen would get into X University. She hadn’t even considered the possibility of Qiu Yanzhen going to another school.
Qiu Yanzhen was inherently smart and studied so diligently. If she didn’t get in, it would be unfair.
However, she felt that if she voiced this “Qiu Yanzhen will definitely get into X University” theory, Zhou Qian’an would definitely laugh at her.
Ding Chen thought about Zhou Qian’an’s hypothetical scenario and said, “Even if she doesn’t study at X University, the top schools for law and dentistry are almost all in Taipei anyway.”
“Maybe…”
“Shut up,” Ding Chen interrupted Zhou Qian’an directly. “Anyway, it’s not a loss for me to get into X University.”
“Oh,” Zhou Qian’an honestly shut up. “I thought you were seriously chasing after Qiu Yanzhen.”
Ding Chen was speechless. “…I’m not that love-struck.”
The two unknowingly walked several laps around the sports field until the bell rang for the end of the break. The crowd began to move towards the teaching building in twos and threes, preparing to go back and continue the second half of their studies.
Ding Chen and Zhou Qian’an happened to be at the far end of the teaching building and still had almost half a lap to go. They weren’t in a hurry to go back anyway, as the management of evening self-study wasn’t that strict.
“Actually, there’s another reason why I want to go to X University,” Ding Chen suddenly said on their way back. “It’s because I feel like that way I’ll be more worthy of her.”
Zhou Qian’an was silent for a moment before saying, “I don’t think Qiu Yanzhen would care about that.” She looked at Ding Chen, who had been somewhat downcast throughout the break. “And other schools aren’t that bad either. There’s H University, Y University, and even though it’s in the south, C University is also good, right?”
“Yeah, that’s true…”
“People don’t have to be outstanding to be liked.”
Ding Chen chuckled softly. “It’s weird hearing you say such serious things.”
“I really want to hit you. My kindness is wasted.” Zhou Qian’an glared, but seeing that Ding Chen’s mood had improved, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Ding Chen knew what Zhou Qian’an was saying, but she was still a bit fixated, which was why her slow progress in math made her so anxious.
Pressure and anxiety blocked her chest. Ding Chen stopped and took a deep breath. Just as Zhou Qian’an was feeling strange, she rushed towards the teaching building, letting out a long drawn-out yell.
Left behind, Zhou Qian’an stood dumbfounded in place, watching the figure getting further and further away.
Crap, Ding Chen had gone crazy.
