No Longer Escaping (ABO) - Chapter 24
As autumn arrived, the forest turned a vibrant golden.
A gentle autumn breeze swept through, causing leaves to flutter and fall.
The wind also caught Wan Niang’s dress.
She held out her hand, and a golden leaf gently landed in her palm.
Before winter arrived, she needed to gather more herbs as quickly as possible.
These days, she had to wake up early to collect them.
Yang Lulong came with her to the mountains, bringing the bow she made to hunt.
Wan Niang, with a basket full of fresh herbs on her back, quietly approached Yang Lulong.
She saw her crouching down, her hand tightly pulling the bow as she aimed at a wild rabbit leisurely eating grass under a tree.
“Crack.”
Wan Niang accidentally stepped on a twig behind her.
The rabbit immediately stopped eating, its ears perked up and its nose twitching.
Just as it was about to run, Yang Lulong’s arrow was already released.
The wild rabbit only had time to let out a “Squeak!” before it was pinned to the tree.
“Wow…” Wan Niang exclaimed, impressed by Yang Lulong’s skill.
“Is there anything you can’t do?” she asked, praising her.
She could read, do woodworking, and now she had shown such great archery skills.
“I can’t heal people,” Yang Lulong replied with a smile.
“Smart mouth…” Wan Niang playfully pushed her, knowing she was teasing her.
It had been some time since they got married.
Although they were married, their lives seemed to be the same as before, except for sleeping together every night.
They no longer avoided physical contact, and it was common for them to hold hands.
They were not people who indulged in pleasure, and they only did it when the mood struck.
“I’ve collected enough. Let’s go back.”
“Okay.”
Yang Lulong walked over, pulled the arrow out of the rabbit, gently stroked its fur, and put it in the bag by her side.
Since she had started doing this, she had hit every rabbit she aimed for, and the bag was full of her trophies.
Seeing her haul, Wan Niang said, “How about you make me a fur shawl?”
“Then I’ll hunt more tomorrow. We can each have one.”
“That’s too much meat for us to eat. Let’s give some to Xiao Wen and Brother Zhang.”
“Okay.”
The two walked side by side on the forest path.
When the wind blew, golden leaves fell from the trees and onto them.
The scene was very romantic.
Just as Wan Niang was enjoying the beautiful view, a leaf fell on Yang Lulong’s head.
She took the leaf and playfully put it in Wan Niang’s hair bun.
Wan Niang was teased, so she grabbed the leaf and put it in Yang Lulong’s clothes.
Yang Lulong, feeling playful, grabbed some scattered leaves from the ground and threw them at Wan Niang.
Wan Niang also grabbed handfuls of leaves and threw them back.
Even though they were two adults who had come of age, they were playing happily like children.
Not far from their laughter, the howling of a pack of wolves was getting closer.
Yang Lulong, noticing something was wrong, immediately stopped.
She vigilantly looked around.
But Wan Niang was still in a playful mood and threw another handful of leaves at her.
When she saw Yang Lulong’s alert expression, her happy face also became serious.
Sensing the approaching danger, Yang Lulong immediately took the bow off her back and pulled out an arrow from her quiver.
She shielded Wan Niang behind her, raised her bow, and aimed at the surrounding dangers that could appear at any moment.
To their surprise, a girl covered in wounds came running out of the bushes.
Thankfully, Yang Lulong stopped herself from pulling the bow.
Otherwise, the girl would have been finished.
She ran straight towards Wan Niang, as if she had seen a savior.
She said, “Save me,” and then fainted in Wan Niang’s arms.
The sudden appearance of the girl shocked them both.
How could there be a girl covered in wounds in the middle of nowhere?
Before they could think, a pack of wolves surrounded them.
It seemed that this girl was the prey that the wolves were chasing.
Yang Lulong scanned the wolves to see which one was the largest.
As long as she hit the alpha wolf, the pack would run away.
She shot an arrow, hitting the big black wolf directly in the eye.
It whined, and the other wolves, seeing their leader injured, got scared and ran away with their tails between their legs.
The black wolf looked back at Yang Lulong with a vicious glare before leaving.
“How is she?”
After chasing the wolves away, Yang Lulong quickly asked Wan Niang about the unconscious girl.
“She’s just fainted. I need to take her back and take a good look at her.”
Yang Lulong carried the girl on her back, and Wan Niang held her bow and arrow.
The two of them quickly walked back home.
Wan Niang sat by the bed, examining her wounds.
Her body had many scratches from tree branches.
Her hair was messy, full of dirt, weeds, and small twigs.
“Go get some water and bring me the external medicine from the pharmacy,” she told Yang Lulong as she slowly took the debris out of the girl’s hair.
When Yang Lulong returned, she saw Wan Niang frowning at the girl.
She asked her, “Is she badly hurt?”
“Smell her carefully. What can you smell?”
“Huh?” Yang Lulong sniffed hard.
Besides Wan Niang’s jasmine scent, there was a very unfamiliar scent, but she couldn’t identify it.
“It’s strange… there’s another scent, but I can’t tell what it is.”
Wan Niang’s frown deepened.
Whether it was a Qian Yuan or a Kun Ze, they all had their own unique scents.
The only time scents would be mixed was in a certain situation.
This girl…
Wan Niang slowly turned the girl’s head, revealing the scent gland on the back of her neck.
It was covered in bite marks.
So many bite marks, and the mixed scents…
Wan Niang couldn’t imagine what she had gone through.
“You should go out first. I’ll help her change and check for other injuries.”
After Yang Lulong left, Wan Niang took off her clothes.
The sight underneath shocked her.
The body, which should have been fair and smooth, was covered in hideous red marks and scratches.
Yang Lulong sat outside the door, occasionally looking at the closed room.
She thought that the girl must have suffered a great misfortune.
The inconsiderate puppy ran over and bit her fingers, trying to play.
She pushed it away in annoyance, but it ran back and continued to bite.
When Wan Niang came out of the room, Yang Lulong immediately stood up and went to her.
“What’s wrong? Is it serious?”
“…” Wan Niang’s face was full of sorrow.
She looked at Yang Lulong without saying a word.
“Wan Niang?”
She suddenly hugged her.
“We have to help her.”
“Help her? What happened?”
After Wan Niang told her what happened, Yang Lulong felt a surge of anger.
Her hands were clenched into fists.
Such a terrible event, even in the modern world, she had only seen it in the news.
To have it happen to someone right next to her…
Once the girl woke up, they would definitely help her get justice.
