No Longer Escaping (ABO) - Chapter 26
Passing through the crowds, they arrived at the majestic city gate.
Once outside the city, they would have to face many unknown dangers lurking in the shadows.
Wan Niang stopped at the gate.
“Do you think I’m being a busybody?”
For a girl they had only met once, they were risking their lives.
If it weren’t for her, Yang Lulong probably wouldn’t be doing this.
“No,” Yang Lulong said, and then laughed.
“Because I’m a busybody too.”
Hearing her answer, Wan Niang also laughed.
“We’re both busybodies…”
“Let’s go.”
Yang Lulong took her hand, and they walked out of the city gate together.
The bandits’ lair was a short distance away.
The bandits were so brazen that they set up their lair next to a main road to make it easy to rob.
The government never bothered with them, and even colluded with the bandits, profiting from their crimes and turning a blind eye to them.
Because of the bandits, very few travelers passed through this road, except for the escort teams that had no other choice.
Yang Lulong and Wan Niang walked cautiously, vigilantly looking around.
“I told you not to follow me…”
A woman’s voice suddenly came from ahead.
Yang Lulong immediately drew her bow and aimed at the source of the voice.
She walked closer and saw two women.
One of them was pregnant, and her swollen belly showed she was quite far along.
The other, taller woman, sensing their hostile intentions, immediately drew the long sword at her waist and shielded the pregnant woman behind her, pointing the sword at Yang Lulong.
The tense standoff made the situation instantly serious.
The tense atmosphere didn’t last long.
Yang Lulong lowered her bow to show goodwill.
“We’re not bad people…”
“Who are you?”
The woman didn’t lower her sword.
Her heroic eyebrows furrowed, and her eyes were hostile.
“We’re going to the bandits’ lair to save a friend.”
Yang Lulong was annoyed that she was pointing a sword at her.
The sword was getting closer, only a few fists away from her neck.
“I’m going there too.”
The woman put her sword away.
“How about we go together?”
Wan Niang moved closer to Yang Lulong, standing next to her.
She looked at the woman and the one behind her.
This woman had a sword at her waist and a valuable-looking jade pendant.
She wore a long black and red robe, and her sharp features and furrowed eyebrows gave her a murderous aura.
The woman behind her wore a light green dress, her hair was tied up, and her hands were tightly protecting her swollen belly.
A pair of peach blossom eyes showed discomfort.
“That’s fine,” she said with arrogance in her voice.
She looked down at Yang Lulong, using her height to her advantage.
The woman behind her gently tugged on her sleeve.
“My dear wife…”
Wan Niang noticed her discomfort.
“I know some medicine. I can help your wife.”
The woman looked at Wan Niang with hostility.
She pulled her wife forward and pushed her in front of Wan Niang.
“Take a look.”
Yang Lulong frowned at the sight.
She didn’t like the way this person treated her wife.
Wan Niang reached out and touched her belly, then took her pulse.
Her face darkened after taking her pulse.
She said angrily to the woman, “Your wife is due to give birth soon. Why are you taking her everywhere?”
“I…”
The woman’s arrogant demeanor instantly vanished, replaced by a look of helplessness.
Her wife, however, quickly defended her.
“It’s all my fault… I was the one who insisted on coming with her…”
As soon as she said this, the woman became anxious.
She stepped in front of Wan Niang and glared down at her.
“What does this have to do with you? You’re a busybody.”
Yang Lulong shielded Wan Niang behind her and glared back at her.
“Please show some respect to my wife.”
Seeing the two of them glaring at each other as if they were about to fight, Wan Niang quickly said, “You should hurry and take your wife to a place to rest. You can’t let her come with us anymore.”
Unexpectedly, the woman, who was about to lose her temper, listened to Wan Niang.
She took her wife’s hand and walked toward the city gate, but she still said, “I don’t need you to tell me.”
Seeing them walk away, Yang Lulong said softly to Wan Niang, “How about we follow them? If something bad happens on the way, we can help.”
“Okay.”
Although Wan Niang didn’t like the woman, her wife really needed help.
Wan Niang and Yang Lulong kept a distance and followed them.
The woman was no longer holding her wife’s hand, walking ahead of her.
The wife behind her was holding onto her clothes and following her.
When they arrived at the city gate, the woman stopped and said to the woman behind her, “Go find an inn by yourself and wait for me.”
“But…”
She was reluctant to let go of her clothes.
“You can go to Fulai Inn. We have a friend there who you can stay with… Her name is Qiao Lan,” Wan Niang said as she approached them.
The woman looked at her with disdain and said to Yang Lulong, “Hey, can you control your Kun Ze?”
“She’s my wife. Watch your words,” Yang Lulong said, also annoyed.
“Hurry up and go. Don’t dawdle,” she said, pulling her wife’s hand away and telling her to go to the inn.
“How about I go with you?”
Wan Niang was worried and tried to help her, but she refused.
“Thank you… I can go by myself… It doesn’t hurt anymore…”
“Let her go with you…”
The woman said, glancing at Yang Lulong.
“Why would you bring a burden to fight bandits?”
This person was so annoying.
Yang Lulong wanted to punch her in the face.
Wan Niang walked with the woman for a while, but she stopped.
“You should go back and find them. I can go the rest of the way alone.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m sorry, my wife… she’s not a bad person, even if her personality isn’t the best…”
“Okay…”
Wan Niang smiled politely at her, but in her heart, she thought, she might not be a bad person, but she doesn’t seem like a good person either.
“My name is Ren Xuemeng, and my wife’s name is Feng Aoshuang. Thank you very much… I hope you can keep an eye on my wife… Please take this money as an apology,” she said, taking out money from her pocket and trying to give it to Wan Niang.
Wan Niang quickly refused.
“You don’t have to… My name is Wan Yu, and my wife is Yang Lulong. We’re also going there to save a friend…”
“Thank you, Miss Wan…”
After saying goodbye to Ren Xuemeng, Wan Niang felt a pang of regret.
How could such a polite and gentle girl marry such a Qian Yuan?
But then again… after spending so much time with Yang Lulong, she had started to think that all Qian Yuan should be like her.
Thinking of Yang Lulong, Wan Niang couldn’t help but quicken her pace.
She just hoped she wouldn’t get into a fight with Feng Aoshuang…
