Oops! I Became a Fan of My Rival Idol! - Chapter 49
“Who is that? Stop her!”
The film set instantly descended into chaos, but no one managed to grab Qiao Huihui as she charged toward the pool, watching helplessly as she plunged into the water.
The director slammed the table in anger, scolding the crew, “What’s going on here? Who let her in? She’s disrupting the shoot!”
Yu Yao stood by the edge, splashed with water, staring in shock at the figure that had jumped in.
Regardless of the commotion above the water, Qiao Huihui swiftly swam toward Shen Nanqing’s direction.
Shen Nanqing didn’t look well—her face was pale, her hair disheveled and clinging to her cheeks, her eyes tightly shut as she slowly sank deeper.
Qiao Huihui’s heart clenched. She hurried over and pulled Shen Nanqing into her arms.
Terrified, her hands trembled uncontrollably. Something seemed to well up in her eyes, dissolving into the water before it could fully form. Seeing Shen Nanqing lifeless, she didn’t hesitate to press her lips against hers, sharing a breath.
The coldness of those pale lips made Qiao Huihui’s hands shake even more.
Fortunately, Shen Nanqing slowly opened her eyes.
She froze for a moment upon seeing Qiao Huihui’s face, clearly taken aback.
With a heavy thud, Qiao Huihui’s heart finally steadied, and so did her hands. She pulled Shen Nanqing upward, breaking through the surface.
The crew was waiting above, furious and shouting about calling the police.
“Who sent you? Are you here to sabotage the shoot or harm the actors?”
Qiao Huihui’s mask and sunglasses were gone, her face fully exposed.
Yu Yao, blocked by the crowd at the back, stared at Qiao Huihui’s face, finding it oddly familiar. After a moment of thought, she nearly bit her tongue in shock.
Qiao Huihui—the one rumored to be at odds with Shen Nanqing???
Qiao Huihui didn’t notice her—or simply didn’t care. Supporting the weakened Shen Nanqing, she sneered, “Call the police? Good, I was about to do the same! You forced her to keep filming even in this state. Let’s see if you’re guilty of endangering an actor’s life!”
The onlookers weren’t blind—they could clearly see Shen Nanqing’s exhaustion. The director’s bravado instantly deflated. He hadn’t meant any real harm—just wanted to teach Shen Nanqing a lesson for Yu Yao’s sake—but drowning her would have been disastrous.
So he changed his tune, ordering an assistant to call an ambulance while shifting blame onto Shen Nanqing. “She insisted on pushing through the shoot. How were we supposed to know she was unwell…”
Qiao Huihui ignored his excuses, sweeping a cold glare over the crowd. “If anything happens to her, none of you will walk away unscathed!”
Her uncharacteristic fierceness burned like a flame, a furious little lioness.
Shen Nanqing leaned against her shoulder, watching her profile, feeling an unfamiliar sense of safety before drifting back into sleep.
She woke again in the hospital, Qiao Huihui’s face hovering close by. When their eyes met, Qiao Huihui blinked in surprise before lighting up with relief, rushing to call the doctor.
After an examination, the doctor confirmed Shen Nanqing was out of danger.
“She collapsed from exhaustion and water inhalation. Her body couldn’t take it.”
Once the doctor left, Qiao Huihui returned to the bedside, clasping Shen Nanqing’s hand anxiously. “Teacher Shen, how are you feeling?”
Shen Nanqing shook her head, her voice slightly hoarse. “It’s nothing.”
She asked word by word, “How… did you get here?”
Seeing her like this, Qiao Huihui still felt a lingering fear, which inevitably seeped into her tone. “If I hadn’t come, you’d have been bullied to death!”
Shen Nanqing lowered her eyes, seeming somewhat despondent.
Qiao Huihui’s heart instantly softened. She let go of Shen Nanqing’s hand and tucked in the blanket for her. “You must be hungry. I’ll go buy you some congee.”
Once she stepped out of the hospital room, Qiao Huihui immediately pulled out her phone.
“Brother, I need your help.”
…
She recounted the incident, emphasizing that Shen Nanqing was her close friend who had nearly been bullied to death on set. If she hadn’t pulled her out of the water, Shen Nanqing might not have made it.
Qiao Guangzong, being protective of his sister, knew exactly what to do. Still, he was startled by her reckless act of diving into the water to save someone.
“Don’t be so impulsive next time. It’s too dangerous.”
“Got it, brother. Don’t worry.”
Qiao Huihui pretended to agree, but only she knew that even if she encountered such a situation a thousand times over, she would still throw herself into danger for Shen Nanqing without hesitation.
At the end of the call, Qiao Huihui’s voice was soft yet chilling. “Brother, I want every single one of them… to face consequences.”
It had been three or four hours since they left the set.
Photos had begun circulating online. Qiao Guangzong ordered the PR department to intercept all related images and information, deciding what could be released only after the situation was clarified.
He adjusted his glasses as he studied Shen Nanqing’s profile on his computer.
Orphaned, entered the entertainment industry after high school, suppressed by her agent and a senior actress, aloof in personality, gained minor fame through a talent show this year…
A life entirely different from Qiao Huihui’s, yet they had become close friends.
Qiao Guangzong frowned slightly. His sister, who wouldn’t even get this angry if she herself were bullied, was now furious over Shen Nanqing’s mistreatment. It seemed this person truly held a special place in her heart.
Unlike Qiao Huihui, he was more cautious about certain matters. The entertainment industry was far too chaotic, and there were plenty who would feign affection to latch onto powerful connections. Who was to say Shen Nanqing hadn’t discovered Qiao Huihui’s background and approached her with ulterior motives?
After a long pause, he tapped his pen against the computer screen, his gaze scrutinizing. “I hope you won’t disappoint her.”
…
Shen Nanqing’s condition wasn’t serious, and she could be discharged that afternoon.
Though still concerned, the commotion they had caused at the film studio and the bustling hospital environment made them wary of further complications.
After some thought, Qiao Huihui decided to take her to a hotel owned by her family, where privacy was strongly guaranteed.
The hotel was opulently decorated in a gilded style—the kind that screamed exorbitant prices—inheriting the aesthetic tastes of the older Qiao generation.
This hotel, opened by Qiao Huihui’s father, catered to the high-end market.
Shen Nanqing hesitated, worried about the cost, but after glancing at Qiao Huihui’s impassive profile, she averted her gaze.
She had some savings over the years. It should… be enough.
“Welcome! How may I assist you?” The receptionist smiled brightly.
Qiao Huihui produced her ID card and stated directly, “We have a reservation.”
“Alright, please wait a moment.” She immediately started making a call, but after a few words, she was startled by the manager’s response—he said he would come down personally to greet them?
“Please wait a moment, our manager will be right down.”
Though the receptionist had been polite the entire time, she couldn’t help but become even more courteous now. She thoughtfully invited the two to sit on the sofa for a while and even brought them some fruit and snacks.
At the same time, she discreetly studied the two girls, wondering what was so special about them that the manager would personally receive them.
After looking for a while, she could only pinpoint one thing.
They were exceptionally beautiful?
And they seemed somewhat familiar—could they be celebrities?
Qiao Huihui took all of this in stride, while Shen Nanqing, though her expression didn’t show it, was a little puzzled inside.
She tugged at Qiao Huihui’s sleeve and, in a spot where the receptionist couldn’t see, gave her a questioning look: What’s going on?
But Qiao Huihui didn’t answer. Instead, she fed her a piece of watermelon.
The manager didn’t keep them waiting long. Soon, a man in a suit stepped out of the elevator and quickly approached them. He bowed deeply to Qiao Huihui and announced loudly, “Young Mistress!”
Qiao Huihui’s hand trembled, and the fruit on her fork fell onto the plate. She felt deeply embarrassed, her toes curling in her shoes, but it did little to ease her discomfort.
Well, terms like “Young Master” and “Young Mistress” were exactly the kind of pretentious affectations her nouveau riche father would insist on.
Shen Nanqing was also startled and turned to look at Qiao Huihui.
Blushing, Qiao Huihui stood up. “There’s no need to call me that. Just take us upstairs.”
The manager remained deferential. “Of course, Young Mistress. I’ve prepared the presidential suite on the top floor for you and your friend. Please follow me.”
Qiao Huihui’s toes curled even harder as she endured the receptionist’s stunned gaze and dragged a bewildered Shen Nanqing into the elevator.
Inside the elevator, Shen Nanqing kept glancing at her profile, clearly wanting to say something but holding back.
Qiao Huihui’s face remained perfectly calm, but internally, she was screaming.
Ahhhh! Does Teacher Shen think my family is weird?!
I’m really not some capitalist’s spoiled young mistress!
I live a very simple life normally!
But since Shen Nanqing couldn’t hear her thoughts, she had no choice but to endure the other’s strange looks, her scalp tingling the entire way.
The manager respectfully led them to their room and then bowed again at a perfect ninety-degree angle, announcing loudly, “Young Mistress, we’ve arrived!”
Qiao Huihui: “…”
Death ×3.
She quickly pulled Shen Nanqing inside and shut the door on the manager, as if that could shake off the lingering awkwardness.
“That’s enough, you can go now.”
“Understood, Young Mistress. Please call for me anytime if you need anything.” The words squeezed through the door crack just before it closed.
Qiao Huihui: QAQ
When she turned around, Shen Nanqing was frowning at her. “Young Mistress?”
Qiao Huihui: “…Let me explain?”
For the next half hour, she painstakingly recounted the whole story, concluding with a desperate plea: “In short, I didn’t mean to deceive anyone. Everything I said was true, but somehow everyone misunderstood.”
“Hmm.” Shen Nanqing’s expression was unreadable as she stared into her eyes. “So… you joined the show because of Le Xingshan?”
Qiao Huihui: Oh no. This is bad.jpg
Her gaze drifted away: “W-well, it’s true, but fate works in mysterious ways. On the surface I came for her, but in reality, I was destined to come for you!”
Shen Nanqing stared at her with an unreadable expression, saying nothing. It was impossible to tell whether she believed it or not.
Qiao Huihui knew this matter couldn’t be explained away, so she quickly changed the subject: “You still haven’t told me why you were bullied like this. Was it your company or your manager forcing you?”
