Paranoid Girlfriend [Transmigration into a Book] - Chapter 29
The first day of military training was sunny. Dai Shiyuan and Zuo Jia were in the same platoon.
Because their heights were close, the two of them stood next to each other.
After training for a few days, Dai Shiyuan was so tired every day that she fell asleep the moment she collapsed onto the bed.
By contrast, Zuo Jia seemed to have no idea what fatigue was. Day after day, she still had the energy to read.
Dai Shiyuan had no choice but to envy her. Young people really did have good stamina and energy.
Unlike her. This body was too weak.
These past few days had only been simple training. Once the difficulty increased in a few days, she did not even know whether she would be able to hold on.
After waking up from sleep, Dai Shiyuan felt pain all over her body. Only after easing up for quite a while did she crawl out of bed.
She had just gotten down when she saw Zuo Jia hurriedly running out from the washroom, her face a little red.
“Shiyuan, do you have… that?” Zuo Jia asked quietly, her face turning bright red after she finished speaking.
Dai Shiyuan frowned, confusion appearing in her eyes. “What’s ‘that’?”
“It’s that…” Zuo Jia gestured with both hands, looking anxious and shy.
“You mean… a sanitary pad?” Dai Shiyuan raised her brows and asked.
Zuo Jia hurriedly nodded, her face turning even redder. When she took the sanitary pad, she did not even dare look at Dai Shiyuan’s face.
Dai Shiyuan watched Zuo Jia’s back and shook her head with a laugh.
When she had been in university before, people had also borrowed sanitary pads from her, but no one had been as shy as Zuo Jia.
It seemed Zuo Jia’s family education was rather strict, which was why she had been taught to be this innocent.
Dai Shiyuan calculated her own dates. If nothing unexpected happened, her period would only come after military training ended.
That counted as good news.
Otherwise, if her period came during training, she might suffer cramps so badly that she fainted.
This body was much worse than her own. It panted after running only a few steps, and it even had period cramps.
It really gave her a headache.
During a break in training, Dai Shiyuan deliberately asked after Zuo Jia’s condition and discovered that everything was normal with her.
While feeling relieved, she was also a little envious.
Today’s training intensity had clearly been increased. Dai Shiyuan was almost unable to bear it, yet Zuo Jia was actually acting as if nothing had happened.
She had no choice but to admire her.
After training for another week, Dai Shiyuan was now so tired after returning to the dormitory that she could not even lift her limbs. After showering, she only wanted to sleep.
“Shiyuan, military training will end in two more days. Hang in there. You can do it.” Zuo Jia smiled as she encouraged her, her small face full of energy.
The corner of Dai Shiyuan’s mouth twitched. Just as she was about to close her eyes and sleep, her phone rang.
Seeing that it was the female lead calling, Dai Shiyuan lifted her finger to answer and gave a “hello” with her eyes closed.
She was truly too tired. Even her voice was weak and powerless.
Hearing the exhausted voice on the other end, Shan Yaxin’s eyes revealed a trace of doubt.
She remembered that in her previous life, her younger sister-in-law had relied on her family connections to greet the school and had not participated in military training. This time, Dai Shiyuan had actually managed to persist this long, which surprised her.
Recently, Shan Yaxin had been busy taking over Teacher Wu’s matters and had not had time to “care about” her younger sister-in-law.
“Xiao Yuan, if you’re too tired, just tell Dad. That way, you won’t have to participate in military training,” Shan Yaxin said gently, a trace of coldness in her eyes.
Hearing this, Dai Shiyuan immediately lifted her head, opened her eyes, and stared at the phone screen. She shouted in a low voice with force, “I’ve almost persisted until the end, and you want me to give up? How is that possible?”
Seeing this stubborn appearance of hers, Shan Yaxin lowered her eyes and softened her voice, anxiously explaining, “Sister-in-law is only worried about you. I’m not really trying to make you give up. It’s best if you can keep going. Sister-in-law is happy for you too.”
After Shan Yaxin finished speaking, she waited for the person on the other end to respond.
But after waiting for a while, she did not hear any voice speaking. Instead, even breathing came through in waves.
Even when tired to this extent, she was still unwilling to give up?
Shan Yaxin hung up the phone and curved her lips into a smile.
This younger sister-in-law of hers had done yet another thing that made Shan Yaxin look at her in a new light.
Dai Shiyuan had spoken with grand heroic spirit over the phone, but when she got up, the word “give up” was scrolling nonstop through her mind.
Why had she been so brave yesterday?
Dai Shiyuan sighed and went out with a face that said she had no desire to live.
Today’s sun was especially scorching. Standing in the middle of the formation, Dai Shiyuan stared ahead, and her vision gradually began to blur.
Suddenly, her vision went black, and her whole body fell downward. Fortunately, there was a hand beside her that caught her.
“Report, instructor! Someone fainted!” Zuo Jia supported Dai Shiyuan and shouted anxiously.
“Class monitor, step out. Take her to the infirmary.”
“I’m fine…” Dai Shiyuan wanted to say those words, but her face was pale, and what came out of her mouth was only an extremely weak sound that no one could hear at all.
“Student Dai, hold on. I’ll help you to the infirmary,” the class monitor said with concern.
Dai Shiyuan’s eyelids were very heavy, and her throat felt as if it had been blocked by a stone, unable to make any sound.
She could only feel someone supporting her, constantly saying something.
She could not hear clearly what the other person was saying. She was completely relying on her body’s instincts to follow the person forward.
“What happened?” Suddenly, a clear, gentle female voice came from not far away.
Dai Shiyuan’s already muddled mind immediately recognized that this was the female lead’s voice. She struggled to open a thin slit in her eyelids, and what she saw was the female lead’s beautiful face.
If her body allowed it, Dai Shiyuan really would have turned around and run.
Why had the female lead seen such an embarrassing scene again?
Only yesterday, she had sworn so confidently in front of the other party and thrown down bold words. Today, she had been directly slapped in the face by reality.
Dai Shiyuan wailed inwardly. Immediately after, her eyes drooped, and she completely lost consciousness.
Shan Yaxin noticed this scene and said gently, “I’ll take her to the infirmary. You go back to training.”
“Sorry to trouble you, Teacher Shan.”
“No need to be so polite.” Shan Yaxin revealed a gentle smile, reached out to take Dai Shiyuan, and directly lifted her sideways in her arms.
A look of surprise instantly appeared on the class monitor’s face. When she ran back to the formation, she even looked back several times.
A tall woman holding a young girl—the scene looked somewhat beautiful.
Shan Yaxin lowered her head and looked at the pale face in her arms. Thinking of how this person in her previous life had also sought her forgiveness with such a deathly pale face, a trace of hatred immediately passed through her heart.
She would not forgive the person who had hurt her family.
Just because her younger sister-in-law had not done those vile things yet did not mean she would not do them in the future.
Shan Yaxin could not lower her guard just because this person occasionally showed a few resilient qualities.
Carrying the person in her arms, Shan Yaxin walked toward the infirmary. Along the way, many curious and surprised gazes were cast toward them, but she faced them all calmly.
She had long grown used to seeing such gazes.
When they arrived at the infirmary, Shan Yaxin placed the person on the sickbed and stood by worriedly.
After the school doctor carefully finished examining her, his expression did not look good. In a low voice, he said, “Teacher Shan, this student’s condition is somewhat serious. It’s better to send her to the hospital as soon as possible.”
“All right, I understand.” Shan Yaxin stood up and made a phone call. After hanging up, she picked up the person on the bed again and walked outside.
Very soon, a car stopped outside. The window rolled down, revealing Zuo Fan’s stern and cold face.
Shan Yaxin carried the person into the back seat. After settling Dai Shiyuan properly, she said, “She fainted during military training. Her condition is somewhat serious. Let’s go to the nearby hospital.”
“All right.” Zuo Fan nodded seriously and quickly drove.
The hospital was not far away, and they arrived very quickly.
The nurses carried Dai Shiyuan inside, while Shan Yaxin and the others waited outside.
Looking at those white figures hurrying about, Shan Yaxin fell into a daze for an instant.
In truth, she disliked coming to hospitals very much. This place held too many painful memories for her.
Many times, in the middle of the night, she had dreamed of herself running after a stretcher, broken down and crying.
Her mother and younger sister had been lying on the stretcher covered in blood, their lives uncertain.
She did not want to see such a scene again. She did not even want to come to a hospital again.
But her younger sister’s illness was sometimes better and sometimes worse. If they could not find a heart donor, she would still have to experience the agony of being separated by life and death again.
Seeing Shan Yaxin’s sorrowful expression and the tears in her eyes, Zuo Fan comforted her. “Xiaoxin, don’t worry too much. She only fainted because she was too tired. Nothing will happen.”
Shan Yaxin shook her head blankly. Her red lips moved, and she murmured, “If she dies inside, what would happen?”
Hearing this, Zuo Fan’s eyes widened slightly. She almost could not believe that her always kind and gentle friend would say such words.
After taking a moment, Zuo Fan tugged Shan Yaxin. Seeing the dazed expression on that beautiful face, her brows furrowed. “Xiaoxin, what’s wrong with you? She won’t be all right. Don’t worry too much.”
“If I hope she dies inside, then what difference is there between me and her…” Shan Yaxin lowered her eyes, the nightmare scenes constantly replaying in her mind.
She hated her younger sister-in-law. At first, she had indeed hoped this person would die.
But now, looking at this person lying pale-faced on a stretcher, her heart was tense.
“Xiaoxin, what are you saying?” Zuo Fan listened to these “nonsensical words,” her expression growing somewhat anxious. She waved her hand in front of Shan Yaxin. “Are you all right? Your face doesn’t look very good.”
“I’m fine.” Shan Yaxin looked up and smiled, her expression gradually returning to her usual calm gentleness. “Just pretend you didn’t see what happened just now.”
Zuo Fan frowned worriedly, but still nodded.
Sometimes, she truly did not understand this friend of hers…
After an hour, Dai Shiyuan was pushed out by a nurse.
“Which of you is her family? She needs to stay in the hospital for two days. Arrange someone to stay overnight with her,” the nurse said.
Shan Yaxin nodded, took two steps forward, and said, “Thank you, doctor. I’ll stay with her tonight.”
After the nurses had all left, Zuo Fan asked softly, “Should her family be notified about this?”
“No need. I don’t want other people to worry.” Shan Yaxin stared at the quiet sleeping face on the bed and answered without turning her head.
Zuo Fan froze slightly and wanted to persuade her with a few words, but when the words reached her mouth, she still stopped. Quietly, she said, “Tell me if you need help with anything. You’ve been busy taking over the homeroom teacher duties recently, so don’t tire yourself out too much.”
“Thank you. I’ll pay attention.” Shan Yaxin curved her lips, a sincere smile appearing on her face.
Zuo Fan still had things to do, so after accompanying her for a while, she left.
Only the two of them were left in the hospital room.
Shan Yaxin sat by the bed and looked at the person on the bed with a complicated gaze. After a long while, she whispered softly, “As long as you don’t hurt my family, I won’t make things difficult for you.”
Her voice was very soft, as if it would scatter the moment the wind outside the window blew.
The sunlight outside shone in, dragging her figure into a long shadow, half printed on the floor and half cast on the wall.
When Dai Shiyuan opened her eyes, she saw a long shadow shifting and was so frightened that she instantly woke up.
“Xiao Yuan, you’re awake?” A pleasantly surprised voice came from beside her.
Dai Shiyuan’s expression froze.
She wanted to faint immediately.
