Returning to the Villain Omega's High School Days - Chapter 13
After Xie Ning finished talking with Aunt Zhang, Uncle Ling and Su’s mother, Fang Lingyu, walked out of the community, looking very rushed.
Xie Ning asked them, “What happened?”
“Oh, Xie Ning,” Fang Lingyu said with an anxious expression, forcing a smile.
“I need to borrow Uncle Ling for a moment. My two kids aren’t back yet, and my husband is at a conference out of town. I’m not good at driving, so I’ll have to trouble Uncle Ling to help me go and find them.”
Xie Ning asked, “Couldn’t you get ahold of them on the phone?”
“I got through to Xingheng, but I can’t reach Jin’er at all,” Fang Lingyu said.
“Xingheng said someone told him that Jin’er didn’t go home on the way back but went to the street with the internet cafes. He looked for her for a while but couldn’t find her. He called to ask me, but I don’t know where Jin’er is either. She’s still not back, and she’s usually home by now. That street is full of troublemakers, and I’m just so afraid something might have happened to Jin’er!”
“Auntie, don’t worry,” Xie Ning said to comfort her.
“It’s good that you’re going with Uncle Ling to look for them. I’ll wait at your house.”
This was exactly what she wanted; she wanted more time to be with Su Wan.
“Okay, okay, thank you so much,” Fang Lingyu said, pausing.
“Also, there’s another person in my house…”
“I’ve met that sister,” Xie Ning said, smiling with her lips curved.
“I know how to get along with her.”
“Okay, that’s good,” Fang Lingyu said, smiling as she wiped the corner of her eye.
“These kids all have their own tempers, and they’ve made me so worried lately that I can’t sleep well. I’ll call your mom from the car and tell her you’re having dinner with us tonight, so she doesn’t have to worry.”
“Thank you, Auntie,” Xie Ning said politely.
“Then I’ll go back inside and wait for you.”
Su’s mother and Uncle Ling drove away.
Aunt Zhang followed Xie Ning, leading the way and opening the door for her.
As soon as they were inside, she made a hot cup of tea and brought it to her, not daring to say a single word out of line.
The French man was still in the kitchen, carefully cooking and plating the food.
Aunt Zhang went over to help him, but she was kicked out a few minutes later.
Aunt Zhang felt like she had nothing to do.
This was a small matter, but years of experience as a housekeeper told her that when the owners and guests were present, she had to look busy.
She walked up and down the stairs, picking up clothes that had been left lying around and putting them in the washing machine.
She happened to see Su Wan washing clothes in the sink and blurted out, “Oh, you little rascal…”
As soon as she said it, she saw Xie Ning silently appear behind her, leaning against the door frame, holding a teacup, looking calm and composed.
She looked like she had nothing to do.
Aunt Zhang was at her wit’s end.
Remembering what she had said earlier, her expression changed, and her tone softened.
“Wanwan, just let me wash these clothes. You should go take a bath. I’ll go fill the bathtub for you…”
Su Wan’s movements paused for a moment, and she didn’t say anything.
“Go on, go get your clothes,” Aunt Zhang said with an eager and kind smile.
“I’ll run the hot water for you, okay?”
Hearing this, Su Wan immediately dropped the dirty clothes in the sink and turned to run away.
But she didn’t listen to Aunt Zhang.
She went to her room, got a change of clothes, and quickly went into the bathroom to take a shower.
The sound of the shower started.
Aunt Zhang complained a few words.
Seeing that Xie Ning was still watching, she walked over, shook her head, and whispered to Xie Ning, “She has such a strange temper. You saw it, so can you blame me?”
Xie Ning didn’t comment, but she had a general idea of what was going on.
Aunt Zhang probably didn’t realize how ridiculous her offer to have Su Wan take a bath was.
The bathtub upstairs was for the lady of the house’s exclusive use.
While the one downstairs was for general use, only Su Jin used it.
If Su Jin found out that Su Wan had used the bathtub, she wouldn’t let it go for a very long time!
What’s more, Su Jin was missing right now, and the whole family was worried about her safety.
If Su Wan were to take a bath at a time like this, what would the others say about her when they returned?!
Aunt Zhang thought she had done something good, but Su Wan thought she was trying to trick her, so she took a quick shower instead.
Xie Ning went back to the sofa to watch TV.
She saw Su Wan go into the bathroom with her clothes, and by the time Xie Ning found the remote to change the channel, Su Wan was already out.
Her movements were light, as if she was afraid of disturbing anyone.
She was wearing a pair of ill-fitting, oversized slippers, and her top and pants were a mismatched mess.
But her face looked a little whiter after she had washed it.
Xie Ning only glanced at her, then returned her gaze to the TV screen.
If she looked at her for another second, Su Wan would become wary again.
At 7:30 PM, Fang Lingyu called Aunt Zhang, gave her some instructions, and then asked to speak to Xie Ning.
Xie Ning took the phone.
The woman’s voice was mixed with the sound of the wind and was a little unclear.
She put the phone on speaker and placed it on the coffee table.
“Xie Ning, I’m so, so sorry. We can’t make it back for a while. You guys should go ahead and eat. Don’t wait for us.”
“You still haven’t found Su Jin?” Xie Ning asked.
“Not yet. It’s so dark right now. We’ve searched the street with the internet cafes, but we can’t find her. Someone said she went to the river, but we’re not sure. It’s too dark, and we’ve walked along the river, but we still haven’t seen her,” Fang Lingyu said, worried.
“I’ve already called the police, but they said they can’t open a case yet. We’re still here by the river and probably won’t be back until very late. You guys should eat so you don’t get hungry.”
Xie Ning glanced at the others in the house.
Aunt Zhang was standing at the kitchen door, already starving.
Su Wan peeked her head out of the bedroom, also listening to the call.
She was wearing a pair of strange socks, one higher than the other, and they were mismatched colors—one grass green and one dark green.
It looked like they were two different old socks put together to make a pair.
Xie Ning stared at the floor, her eyes unconsciously lingering on those strange socks for a few seconds.
When she came back to her senses, Su Wan had already gone back into the room.
She probably also wanted to know what was going on with Su Jin.
But she wouldn’t ask, so Xie Ning intentionally turned up the speaker volume so she could hear clearly.
While Fang Lingyu was talking, Su Xingheng interrupted and asked loudly, “Xie Ning, on the way back from school, did you say something to Su Jin?”
Fang Lingyu took the phone back and scolded Su Xingheng, but Xie Ning generously admitted, “I did ask her a few things because I heard some rumors at school…”
Fang Lingyu was stunned for a moment.
“Xie Ning, what did you ask her?”
“About your family’s recent situation,” Xie Ning said apologetically.
“I’m sorry, Auntie, but I was just too curious.”
“It’s okay, Xie Ning,” Fang Lingyu’s tone was still gentle.
“I understand. It’s not your fault.”
Xie Ning asked for their location again, and Fang Lingyu said they were by the Sanliu Bridge.
Xie Ning said, “It’s too slow with just the three of you. There’s one of our shopping malls near the Sanliu Bridge. There are about one or two thousand employees there, and they haven’t gotten off work yet. I’ll tell my dad to have the employees come out and help you find her.”
Fang Lingyu was taken aback.
Before this, she had been complaining that the Su family didn’t have enough connections.
The people she knew in the police department weren’t on duty, so they couldn’t send officers to help them look.
But what Xie Ning said was a revelation to her.
She never thought of this kind of solution!
“Is that okay?” Fang Lingyu said hesitantly.
“Will it be too much trouble…”
“Auntie, wait two minutes. I’m going to call my dad now!”
Xie Ning called her father and told him the Su family’s situation was very serious, saying that Su Jin might be suicidal and might have jumped in the river.
She said they needed to find her as soon as possible!
So, Mr. Xie immediately notified the mall and had the employees get off work early to organize a search party by the river.
He also promised a 10,000 yuan bonus to whoever found Su Jin!
With that, the search efficiency skyrocketed.
But for Su Jin, this was a complete social death experience.
She was by the river, letting the wind blow on her face and wiping away her tears.
The more she thought about Su Xingheng, the sadder she got, and she cried until she looked haggard.
Around 7:50 PM, she saw a large group of people suddenly appear on the other side of the river.
They were using their phones as flashlights and calling out to her one after another:
“Su Jin!”
“Su Jin, where are you?!”
“Su Jin, your mom is so worried about you!”
“Su Jin, the world is still so beautiful! You’re so young, so don’t do anything foolish!”
“What’s the big deal about a breakup? There are so many good men out there! Don’t get stuck on one tree!”
Hundreds, even thousands of voices were all along the riverbank!
Su Jin: “…”
At 8:05 PM, a girl with a high ponytail was the first to find her.
She shined her flashlight on her, and said with joy, “You’re Su Jin? 16 years old, wearing a school uniform. You match the description! It must be you! This is great! I found her! 10,000 yuan!”
Su Jin had just gone to the river to get some air.
She had intentionally turned off her phone to make her family, especially Su Xingheng, worry.
But she never expected her mother to call a thousand people to look for her!
This was completely beyond her expectations.
Su Jin’s emotions were very complicated.
But no matter what, seeing that her mother was so worried about her, she felt a little more at ease and no longer had to worry about being kicked out of the family!
After this incident, Xie Ning wasn’t blamed at all.
Instead, she became the object of Su’s mother’s gratitude.
It was thanks to her idea that they were able to find Su Jin so easily.
When Su Jin returned home, she didn’t throw another tantrum.
Su’s mother stayed with her, making her soup and bringing it to her, making all kinds of wonderful promises.
Su Xingheng also kept apologizing for his carelessness after school.
Neither of them mentioned Xie Ning.
That whole night, everyone’s attention was on Su Jin, and she had successfully achieved her goal.
But at what cost?
Overnight, Su Jin’s name spread far and wide.
While Su Jin was still basking in the glow of winning back her family’s hearts, rumors about the Su family were everywhere.
The secret could no longer be kept.
Before Xie Ning left the Su family’s home, she still didn’t hear Su Wan speak to her.
When she left, Fang Lingyu walked her to the courtyard gate.
The car turned a corner and left the community.
As it drove onto the main road, she turned her head and looked out the window.
She happened to see the Su family’s house.
There was a room with a single window lit up, and a small figure was standing at the window, looking in her direction.
Xie Ning recognized her; it was Su Wan.
She had already driven so far, and she was still watching her?
Xie Ning reached her hand out the window and blew her a kiss.
She was certain that Su Wan had seen it because she ran away.
Goodnight, my girl.
