Returning to the Villain Omega's High School Days - Chapter 32
The moment Xie Ning saw Su Wan fall into the water, she ran toward her without hesitation. When she reached the edge of the pond, she took off her jacket and shoes, threw them onto the grass, and got into the water to pull Su Wan out.
Although the pond was not deep, someone had once drowned in it.
It was said that a student had been bullied and forced to jump into the water. The perpetrators colluded with one another and said nothing, hiding the fact that the student had jumped in. It was not until the next day that the police came to retrieve the body and take the perpetrators to the station.
But it did not take long before the police released them. They continued attending classes on campus as usual, and some of them even got into university and later became civil servants.
Only now, rumors still circulated around the school that there was a vengeful spirit in the lake, so ordinary people did not dare walk around that area alone.
Xie Ning did not know how Su Wan had fallen in, nor did she think about whether Su Wan knew how to swim. She had no time to think about any of that. Her first reaction was only worry and fear.
The mud by the water’s edge was deep. Xie Ning stepped through the mud and approached the middle of the pond, pushing aside the water lily leaves as she moved closer to Su Wan.
Su Wan’s body struggled in the water. Before long, her feet were caught by water weeds. She thrashed, splashing up water, and choked on a mouthful.
“Su Wan!” Xie Ning dove down, cut through the water, and quickly swam toward Su Wan.
It was not easy to swim in the shallow water. The mud and sand underneath had been stirred up, so she could not open her eyes underwater. Holding her breath, she swam to Su Wan’s side and wrapped both arms around Su Wan’s waist, pulling the trembling girl into her arms.
Su Wan was thin and weak, and with the buoyancy of the water, Xie Ning could hold her easily. Pressing close, she opened her arms and wrapped Su Wan completely.
“Wanwan!” Xie Ning held her, her wet face pressing against Su Wan’s forehead as she said hoarsely, “It’s all right. I’m here.”
Su Wan shuddered lightly. Seeing Xie Ning react like this, she could not help regretting what she had done.
At first, Su Wan had only wanted to make herself look a little wretched and see how Xie Ning would react.
All she needed was a tiny bit of pity and sympathy. She only needed to see Xie Ning be nervous for her.
Xie Ning could have found a stick on the shore, stretched it into the water for Su Wan to grab, then pulled her up from the bank. She would not even have needed to get her shoes wet, let alone enter the water.
Making someone as clean-loving as Xie Ning jump into the water to save her made Su Wan feel unbearably guilty.
Her ankle was still tangled in water weeds. Xie Ning pulled Su Wan twice and found she could not move her, so she dove beneath the water and gently held Su Wan’s leg.
Su Wan’s body stiffened. She did not dare move carelessly. Her body then lost balance and tilted backward. Xie Ning supported her to keep her from falling, while her other hand untangled the weeds from Su Wan’s ankle.
Under the water, Su Wan was still warm and soft. Xie Ning held her steadily, turned back, and saw that Su Wan’s skirt had floated up in the water, her pale legs exposed in front of her. The soaked stockings barely hid anything, while Xie Ning’s hand was still in an awkward position.
She could still hold her breath for a while and did not quite want to surface immediately.
But then she thought of how weak Su Wan’s body was and that getting chilled underwater would be bad, so she immediately lifted her and kicked through the water toward the shore.
She chose a bank with fewer water weeds and water lilies. There were stones underneath that they could step on. Even though they were already safe, she still kept holding Su Wan and did not let go.
She supported Su Wan from behind and let her climb ashore first.
The girl’s soaked clothes clung completely to her body. Xie Ning looked away, her mouth suddenly dry as she swallowed.
Su Wan climbed ashore and immediately turned back to pull her. Xie Ning reached out, used a little strength, and got onto the bank.
Su Wan was drenched all over, trembling from the cold. She was still somewhat weak and sat on the grass, unable to stand. She glanced at Xie Ning and could only say, “I’m sorry.”
“What are you sorry for?” Xie Ning felt as if her heart had been tugged. Looking at her with unbearable tenderness, she said, “At a time like this, you still think you should apologize to others? Wanwan, the ones who should apologize are other people. When Aunt Fang and the others come later, you must not say sorry.”
As they spoke, Su Wan shivered from the cold. Xie Ning hurriedly ran to get her own jacket and said to her, “Wait for me.”
After saying that, she did not even have time to wring out her clothes before running over with the jacket and asking Su Wan to change out of her own.
Su Wan said, “You’re wet too. You wear it.”
Xie Ning did not discuss it with her. She went to take off Su Wan’s school uniform jacket, peeling that thick, heavy, soaked clothing off and throwing it onto the grass. Then she covered Su Wan with the dry jacket she had taken off earlier.
The jacket still carried Xie Ning’s warmth. Su Wan felt a little better. Xie Ning then said, “Take off your stockings and shoes too.”
Although there were not many people nearby, asking Su Wan to take off her stockings in broad daylight was something she really could not do.
Xie Ning looked at her and said seriously, “Take them off quickly. Wearing wet ones isn’t good.”
Su Wan took off her shoes, then stopped and looked around nearby.
Xie Ning said, “I’ll block you. No one will be able to see. Hurry and take them off. Once you’re done, I’ll call someone over.”
Su Wan drew in a light breath. Still, she stood up, turned her back to Xie Ning, reached under her skirt with both hands, and took off the pantyhose.
Xie Ning stood behind her, watching over her. Su Wan moved slowly, bending down and lowering her head, pushing the stockings down little by little along her thighs to her ankles. Then she took them off, balled them up, and placed them together with the wet jacket and shoes.
When she bent down, her skirt barely covered the back. If it had been even a little shorter, it would not have been enough.
When Su Wan turned back, Xie Ning seemed to be looking elsewhere casually. After Su Wan finished tidying herself, Xie Ning walked in front of her and reached toward her waist.
Su Wan froze. Then she saw Xie Ning slip her hand into the pocket of the jacket Su Wan was wearing, take out a phone, lower her head, find a number, and make a call.
“We’re by the lake. Su Wan was pushed into the water,” Xie Ning said. “Auntie, hurry over. If this keeps up, she’s going to catch a cold.”
Su Wan looked at her, wondering how Xie Ning had come to the conclusion that someone had pushed her into the water when she had not said anything.
“Are you still cold?” Xie Ning sat beside her, holding the phone loosely on her knee as she turned to look at her.
Su Wan said, “I’m not cold.”
“Your face looks terrible. How could you not be cold?” Xie Ning said. “If I weren’t wet too, I’d carry you away and not wait for them to come.”
She was still afraid Su Wan would catch a chill. If she carried Su Wan all the way to the school gate, Su Wan would probably freeze badly.
It was better to wait here. That was more reliable.
Besides, it was noon right now. The sunlight was just right, and there was not much wind. Sitting here and getting some sun was good too.
Su Wan lowered her face, feeling somewhat too ashamed to face anyone.
Xie Ning asked, “Does your period still hurt?”
Su Wan thought for a moment. Her period had come last Tuesday. It had already been seven days, so how could it still hurt?
She shook her head and said, “How did you know someone pushed me?”
“When I came over, I saw that fat boy had been sprayed all over the face by you,” Xie Ning said. “If I hadn’t been so anxious, I definitely would’ve grabbed him and beaten him up. He pushed you, right?”
Su Wan nodded. “I didn’t want to provoke him… Ah-choo.”
Xie Ning immediately took her cold hand and rubbed it, then brought it in front of herself and breathed warm air over it.
Su Wan felt very embarrassed, because Xie Ning was wet too. Her shirt clung to her body, and the outline beneath could be seen. Even so, she had given her jacket to Su Wan. All of this made Su Wan blame herself even more.
They were both Omegas. She did not want to appear too delicate.
She pulled her hand back, swallowed, and said quietly, “It’s fine.”
By the time Fang Lingyu and the others found them, Su Wan had recovered some strength. She stood and looked toward them, then walked over.
“Wanwan?” Fang Lingyu’s face was pale. She started running across the grass, but her shoe twisted underfoot, and she almost fell.
Su Jin followed behind her. Her gaze fell on Su Wan, resentful and full of gritted-teeth anger.
Xie Ning was also looking at Su Jin, taking pleasure in her misfortune.
The mud in the grass caught Fang Lingyu’s heel, so she simply took off her shoes and ran over. When she reached Su Wan, she held Su Wan’s arms with both hands and frowned as she looked at her, so heartbroken she could not speak.
After a long time, she said, “Xie Ning said someone pushed you into the water. You scared me to death, my child. Are you all right?”
Su Wan shook her head. Fang Lingyu was so distressed that she lowered her head, wiped away her tears, cried aloud, and reached out to hug Su Wan.
Su Wan was afraid of dirtying her beautiful clothes. She stood stiffly in place, not daring to return the hug, and only said, “I’m fine. Xie Ning saved me.”
Fang Lingyu let go of her and looked at Xie Ning behind her, so moved she could hardly contain it. Xie Ning hurriedly stood up and said, “Auntie, don’t be upset. Where is your car? I’ll tell the gate security and let you drive it in. Take us home first.”
“All right.” Fang Lingyu still held Su Wan’s hand. At the same time, she removed her own scarf and used it to wipe Su Wan’s hair, saying to Xie Ning, “Wanwan’s hair is short. After I finish drying hers, I’ll dry yours. Don’t mind it… Ningning.”
“I don’t mind,” Xie Ning said with a smile. “I’m the one feeling bad for your scarf.”
Fang Lingyu frowned and said, “What’s there to feel bad about? Right now, I only feel bad for you two.”
Su Jin stood behind Fang Lingyu and reminded her quietly, “Mom, that scarf was my gift to you…”
Fang Lingyu turned back to glance at her and sighed. “Xiao Jin, don’t fuss over this right now, all right?”
Su Jin sulked and stomped her foot in place.
Fang Lingyu ignored her. After drying Su Wan’s hair, she spread the scarf open and brought it to Xie Ning, personally drying her hair as she walked around her. At the same time, she said, “The sun here is warm. Getting some sun is good too. Wait here for me. I’ll drive the car in. In a while, I’ll turn the heater on in the car, and you two can stay inside for a bit. Your clothes will dry quickly.”
Xie Ning said, “I’m fine. My shirt is almost dry too. It’s just that my pants being wet feels a little uncomfortable.”
“I’m much better too,” Su Wan said. “Once the water on me dries, I feel much better.”
Fang Lingyu still felt heartbroken for her and asked, “Who pushed you? Why did he do that?”
“It was an older student,” Xie Ning answered for her. “I remember what he looks like. I’ll make the school punish him later!”
Fang Lingyu sighed, then turned back to Su Jin and said, “Xiao Jin, lend your jacket to Xie Ning first.”
Su Jin widened her eyes and said, “Would my jacket even fit Xie Ning?”
“Let her put it over herself,” Fang Lingyu said. “Hurry. Take it off first.”
Su Jin clutched the front of her jacket with both hands and swallowed. “I can take it off, but I want Xie Ning to apologize to me first. She hit me, Mom, you know that.”
“You’ve said that ten thousand times already,” Fang Lingyu said irritably. “Xiao Jin, lend her the jacket first. As for the hitting, I want to hear what Xie Ning and Wanwan have to say before judging right or wrong.”
Su Jin reluctantly took off the jacket and handed it to Fang Lingyu. Fang Lingyu opened it and draped it over Xie Ning, saying, “Wait for me here. I’ll go drive the car in.”
Xie Ning said, “I know.”
Fang Lingyu held Su Wan’s hand again and comforted her a few more times before going to pick up her shoes stuck in the mud and get the car.
As soon as Fang Lingyu left, Su Jin ran in front of Xie Ning and tried to snatch the scarf and jacket off her.
