Saving the Pitiful Villain (GL) - Chapter 21
The little yellow duck’s originally round bottom was flattened, and it was covered with grass clippings.
Yun Wu carefully picked off the grass clippings. Turning her head, she saw Jiang Juan and her son being handcuffed and loaded into the police car not far away. Wang Ba was still standing there, cursing loudly.
As soon as the police car left, the ambulance arrived.
“They’re fine, definitely. Go back.”
“They’re screaming like they’re perfectly healthy. Probably just lost a few hairs.”
The emergency doctors struggled to piece together the sequence of events from the onlookers’ chatter and returned to their ambulance, looking sullen.
Cold mockery passed through her eyes. Yun Wu turned back casually, unexpectedly meeting Jiang Shangxue’s gentle, calm, dark gaze.
She was standing under the streetlamp, waiting for her all along.
Yun Wu blinked, and the hostility in her eyes instantly vanished without a trace.
She slowly walked closer. Jiang Shangxue glanced at the little yellow duck in her hand and extended her own hand toward her.
“Let’s go home.”
Jiang Shangxue’s hand was beautiful, jade-white and warm, with faint blue veins visible on the back of her hand. Her nails were neatly trimmed.
Yun Wu lowered her head, a hint of hesitation in her eyes, but she ultimately took Jiang Shangxue’s hand.
She couldn’t stop flashing back to the moment she lost control and the scene of Jiang Shangxue comforting her. Yun Wu pursed her lips, struggling to suppress the sudden chaotic emotions in her heart, along with a touch of uncontrollable irritability.
She shouldn’t have lost control.
And Jiang Shangxue’s actions were a fierce blow, completely overturning Yun Wu’s impression of her from the previous life.
Being led slowly forward, a faint warmth radiated from Yun Wu’s palm.
Inside the guard station at the side gate of the East Villa community, a slightly gray-haired uncle greeted Jiang Shangxue warmly.
“Miss Jiang, picking up your child to go home?”
Jiang Shangxue smiled faintly. “Yes, good evening.”
Yun Wu stood in the shadow of a tree, quietly observing Jiang Shangxue, her expression thoughtful.
The Jiang Shangxue of the previous life would never bother with people she deemed lower class. Why was this life completely different?
Yun Wu was so lost in thought along the way that she continued walking straight after entering the elevator, bumping directly into Jiang Shangxue.
Taking a small step back, Jiang Shangxue steadily held the always-distracted Yun Wu.
The girl’s lips were pressed into a straight line. She looked moodier and colder than before, clearly not in a good emotional state.
Jiang Shangxue sighed softly in her heart. Anyone would be upset after being maliciously slandered. Moreover, before she came along, Yun Wu was already living a life of hardship and despair.
She was still young. Asking her to let go of everything was clearly too much to ask.
After a moment of thought, Jiang Shangxue suddenly brought up tomorrow’s weather.
“It will get cold again tomorrow. Colder than today. Remember to wear your own jacket.”
The weather in A-City in early summer was unpredictable. It could be sunny today and stormy tomorrow, with temperatures fluctuating wildly—it was exhausting.
Yun Wu’s body stiffened almost instinctively. She only relaxed slightly when Jiang Shangxue let go of the hand around her lower back.
Hearing Jiang Shangxue mention the weather, Yun Wu was first startled, then lowered her gaze to look at the jacket she was wearing.
It was a lotus-root-pink tangzhuang jacket with cloth buttons. It was clearly too big for Yun Wu, making her look like she was wearing adult’s clothes she had sneaked into.
For some reason, under Jiang Shangxue’s teasing gaze, an undeniable wave of irritation traveled from Yun Wu’s heart down her spine, spreading throughout her body.
Her whole body began to feel hot, especially the tips of her ears, which were burning. She felt extremely awkward.
Clutching the wooden stick of the cotton candy tightly, Yun Wu lowered her head and remained silent.
Seeing her ears turn red, Jiang Shangxue raised her eyebrows and smiled faintly. The elevator doors opened just then, and she didn’t say anything more, walking out.
Yun Wu followed behind her, her fingers curling, relieved.
Her gaze toward Jiang Shangxue grew increasingly ambiguous.
Opening the door, she bent down to change her slippers.
The balcony door hadn’t been closed. Jiang Shangxue put down her keys and went to collect the clothes and close the door.
A faint, subtle scent of Chinese herbal medicine permeated the living room. Yun Wu’s gaze shifted to the dining table, where a small ceramic pot was still steaming.
Is that Chinese medicine for Jiang Shangxue?
Is she sick?
Yun Wu was momentarily distracted. Jiang Shangxue collected the clothes. Seeing Yun Wu’s blank expression, coupled with the ill-fitting outfit, she looked very adorably naive.
She couldn’t help but chuckle. She checked the time again and urged, “It’s getting late. Go take a shower first.”
The clothes Jiang Shangxue had collected were hung on a clothes rack on one side of the living room. A small, light-green bra was particularly noticeable among them.
Yun Wu hummed in acknowledgment, quickly averted her eyes, and walked over rather flusteredly to take down her clothes and put them away in her room’s wardrobe.
She seemed much more lively compared to her usual self.
Jiang Shangxue shook her head, smiling lightly as she watched Yun Wu. She thought, A child’s mind is truly hard to guess, but this bustling energy is quite amusing.
Jiang Shangxue’s smile, full of affection, was clearly reflected in the mirror-like glass door.
Author’s Note:
Jiang Shangxue: Now that I have a daughter, people can describe me with “maternal affection.”
Yun Wu whispers in her ear: Who is your daughter? No! No! No!
Jiang Shangxue: You little ungrateful wretch.
Yun Wu fumes: I should be your wife!
Their feelings are very pure now. It will only be later that Yun Wu turns into an ungrateful wretch and develops her unfilial intentions. Little Jiang is very scared!
