Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 15
After dicing some garlic and millet chili, then drizzling over some light soy sauce, a side dish of cold smashed cucumbers was ready.
Luo Sheng took the tenderloin she had set aside, cracked an egg into it, added three spoonfuls each of oil and cornstarch, and continued to mix and marinate it by hand. While the meat sat, she picked a fresh head of Chinese cabbage from a bag on the floor, intending to make “water-boiled cabbage.”
It was a simple dish—boiled in water with a pinch of salt for seasoning. She only added a vegetable dish because Nan Shuwan had come over.
Luo Sheng was busy busying herself in the kitchen, while Nan Shuwan sat in the living room leisurely watching a TV drama. However, her attention wasn’t on the television; instead, her gaze kept drifting back to Luo Sheng.
Tall and slender, fair-skinned, a great cook, and exceptionally good-looking—the more Nan Shuwan looked, the more she felt that among all the people she had met, Luo Sheng truly qualified as a high-quality Alpha.
She clicked her tongue inwardly. Her gaze followed Luo Sheng’s movements as she washed vegetables, landing on the woman’s long fingers—well-defined, slender, and surprisingly strong when she was scrubbing the counter with a cloth…
At that thought, Nan Shuwan’s face suddenly flushed. She immediately tapped her forehead, scolding herself in her heart. Where is my mind wandering to?
Snapping out of it, she realized she had been staring at Luo Sheng for a long time. She couldn’t help but sigh softly, feeling a bit sentimental.
Nan Shuwan reflected on how, ever since she started working, she had been a complete workaholic. Over the years, she had lived a life of “asceticism,” with no time for romance. Although there were plenty of people chasing her, very few had ever caught her eye.
But this Luo Sheng… she hadn’t paid much attention to her back at the company; she had only vaguely heard that her performance was very strong. Nan Shuwan suddenly felt her own vision must have been poor. How could I have failed to notice someone this good-looking?
At first, she thought Luo Sheng’s personality was too cold and difficult to get along with, but after “scouting” her for a while, she realized this person wasn’t as heartless as she had imagined.
Specifically, Luo Sheng’s flustered and cramped expression earlier had been fully captured by Nan Shuwan. With just a little bit of flirting, the woman’s ears turned red. It was unexpectedly pure…
And with a little bit of acting spoiled, the other person became extremely easy to talk to. Being so susceptible to the “soft approach,” Nan Shuwan wondered if this person was a legendary “natural-born solo” (someone who has never dated).
Her thoughts strayed further and further, subconsciously worrying about the other’s lifelong happiness, until the aroma of food wafted over. Only then did Nan Shuwan pull herself out of her immersive meditation.
“Time to eat.”
Luo Sheng served Nan Shuwan a bowl of rice and poured her a glass of grape juice.
Nan Shuwan took it with a “thank you.” Looking at the dishes on the table, which were perfect in color, aroma, and taste, her appetite was instantly piqued. She picked up a piece of bright red meat; it was sweet, sour, and delicious, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It turned out to be Sweet and Sour Pork Tenderloin!
Her eyes lit up instantly. The crispy meat coated in rich sauce was incredibly tasty. Nan Shuwan, having quickly shoveled several large mouthfuls of rice, felt very satisfied. She then had a few pieces of the cold cucumber, which was refreshing, crunchy, and very appetizing. One bite after another, half a bowl of rice was gone in no time.
It had to be said that Luo Sheng’s culinary skills were indeed excellent. She remembered the last time she “scrounged” a meal here, she had also been… well… devouring it. Thinking of this, Nan Shuwan looked up at Luo Sheng and found that the woman seemed to be looking at her too, though she looked away as soon as their eyes met.
Nan Shuwan pursed her lips, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed. She restrained herself slightly; the person who was feasting heartily a moment ago suddenly became elegant, chewing in small bites that looked, well, a bit affected.
Luo Sheng didn’t mind at all. What a cook loves most is to have their skills recognized. Seeing Nan Shuwan like this actually gave her a sense of accomplishment.
However, she hadn’t expected that after so many days, this woman hadn’t mentioned the project once. She just tirelessly found ways to close the distance between them, looking like she truly wanted to be friends.
After finishing the meal, Nan Shuwan helped clear the table, and Luo Sheng went to wash the dishes. With only a few bowls, it was done in about ten minutes.
When Luo Sheng came out of the kitchen, Nan Shuwan was already standing at the door putting on her shoes. She waved her gauze-wrapped hand in farewell. “Thank you for the hospitality. See you tomorrow.”
See you tomorrow…
Luo Sheng silently repeated the words, her eyes a bit dazzled by Nan Shuwan’s sweet smile. She actually felt a faint sense of anticipation for tomorrow’s meeting. Something was quietly changing, though she couldn’t say exactly what it was.
Watching the woman’s departing back, Luo Sheng suddenly felt anxious. Many words hovered on the tip of her tongue but remained unsaid, as if Nan Shuwan’s departure this time would be eternal and she would never see her again.
Should I say it?
Should I really tell her?
Her heart was pounding. Luo Sheng had never been this nervous. She bit her pale lower lip hard. The end of the world was coming, but would the other person really believe in an apocalypse…?
The moment Nan Shuwan was about to close the door, Luo Sheng suddenly called out to her.
“Hmm? Is there something else?”
Nan Shuwan held the door open. It had been left with only a crack, but the other had suddenly shouted her name, forcing her to freeze in place. The gap widened as the door was opened again.
Nan Shuwan turned back around, looking confused.
Luo Sheng clenched her fists, her expression serious, looking as if she had something major to say. This made Nan Shuwan even more curious. She felt something was wrong and grew nervous in turn.
The air grew tense as time ticked by. Amidst the high-strung nerves, Luo Sheng suddenly sighed and spoke, “It’s nothing… just, thank you for today. Also, the weather is hot; you could buy more food to keep at home so you don’t have to go out as often.”
Nan Shuwan didn’t reply immediately. Instead, she leaned in closer, looking at her with a very strange gaze that made Luo Sheng feel flustered.
Luo Sheng cleared her throat and took a few steps back, but the other person suddenly reached out to touch her head. Luo Sheng’s body stiffened, and she didn’t move for a moment, wanting to see what the woman wanted to do.
Nan Shuwan merely brushed her forehead gently, wiping away some sweat and rolling it between her fingertips. “How strange. The AC is so strong in here, why are you sweating so much?” With that, her gaze traveled from top to bottom, scrutinizing her like a sharp blade passing over every inch of Luo Sheng’s skin. But when their eyes met, she chuckled to herself. “Don’t be so polite. I told you, we’re friends now. It’s only right to help each other out…”
Friends…
Luo Sheng lowered her eyes. While she was still savoring the weight of those light words, Nan Shuwan had already turned and walked back across the hall. With a “bang,” the door closed tight.
The temperature reached its peak between two and four in the afternoon. Even a slight opening of a window allowed a heatwave to rush in, diluting the cool air inside. The sun overhead felt like it could set the very air on fire.
The news constantly broadcasted reports that the temperature would continue to soar, and in some areas, water pipes had burst from the heat, leading to temporary water outages.
Nan Shuwan had sweated quite a bit helping Luo Sheng move things in the morning. She wrapped her hand in a vacuum-seal bag and ran to the bathroom to take a shower. In this weather, she didn’t even need to turn on the water heater; the supply of hot water was endless. She had never been able to take cold showers, so this was the only benefit of the heat for her.
After washing, Nan Shuwan didn’t bother with a hairdryer for her wet hair; in this heat, it would dry naturally very quickly. She drank two glasses of water to rehydrate, then sat on the sofa to put on a face mask.
Staying in an air-conditioned room all day made her skin dry out too fast, making it prone to peeling; essence masks were a necessity. After resting for a while, Nan Shuwan thought back to Luo Sheng’s hesitant behavior. She could sense that the woman definitely had something else she wanted to say.
The weather is hot, buy more things to keep at home?
Nan Shuwan ruminated on this sentence, finding it bizarre. Why would she say something so out of context? Something is wrong, something is truly not right.
As a Director at a large company, Nan Shuwan had excellent intuition for such things. Actually, from the very beginning, she had found Luo Sheng strange. Why would someone give up a brilliant career, insist on resigning, and move to a relatively remote complex to live alone?
Luo Sheng hadn’t been swayed by her offers of raises and commissions. Initially, Nan Shuwan thought there might be a family issue, but after living here for a few days, she saw that the woman had nothing to do except run out every day and bring back a few items.
The more Nan Shuwan thought about it, the more suspicious it became. What exactly is Luo Sheng up to?
She dried her hair with a towel and set it on the small table. She took a jar of yellow peaches from the fridge—sweet, cold peaches were the ultimate tool for beating the heat. Nan Shuwan ate several large pieces; they were so cold her teeth chattered, but the heat from her shower finally dissipated.
Full and satisfied, Nan Shuwan felt a bit drowsy and drifted off to sleep on the sofa.
After an unknown amount of time, a knocking sound drifted in—thud, thud, thud. One after another, exceptionally abrupt in the quiet environment. Nan Shuwan’s thoughts were muddled, and she thought she was dreaming.
But the knocking grew louder, reaching a point where it could no longer be ignored. Nan Shuwan’s head began to throb, and she opened her eyes, realizing someone was actually knocking on her door.
Her nerves suddenly tightened. She sat up abruptly, tightened her loose bathrobe, hastily threw on a jacket, and walked quickly to the door, pressing an eye to the peephole.
The person outside, however, was a surprise. A stranger—a young woman with medium-length hair wearing a pleated skirt—was carrying a bag of items and knocking incessantly on her door.
Nan Shuwan froze, bewildered. Who is this?
