Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 26
Lin Fu, stuck in the middle of a traffic jam, was incredibly irritable. She had finally managed to see off that “god of plague,” Zhang Yun, today. Having just returned from the airport after spending a fortune on gifts to shove at her, Lin Fu was naturally not in a beautiful mood.
Lately, Lin Fu had been working from home. The company, which had initially granted a two-day break, tried to call everyone back to the office, but the heat became unbearable. As the peak temperature threatened to break 50°C, they were forced to release the employees again.
Watching the long line of cars snaking down the main artery made her even more frustrated. As soon as the light turned green, she spun the steering wheel and veered onto a side road with much less traffic.
Driving through District D, Lin Fu spotted a tall bronze statue. There was a large park nearby and, luckily, an empty parking spot. Starving since she hadn’t eaten yet, Lin Fu decided to grab a random bowl of rice noodles at a nearby shop.
She backed into the parking spot. Just as she was about to step out, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure in the rearview mirror. Was that Luo Sheng?
Why is it always Luo Sheng?
Before she could finish marveling at the “fate” of constantly running into her, she saw someone following behind who left her utterly stunned.
Lin Fu rubbed her eyes, disbelieving. If she wasn’t mistaken, that was… Director Nan?!
Why are those two together? Bewildered, a flurry of strange thoughts raced through Lin Fu’s mind. She leaned her head out of the window for a better look.
She saw Luo Sheng and Nan Shuwan get into the same car, followed by an unfamiliar, tall woman with tanned skin. The strange feeling in her heart intensified. Didn’t Luo Sheng resign? Why is she hanging out with Director Nan?
A fleeting moment of lightheadedness made her chest feel tight; she felt as if something major was about to happen—an oppressive, uncomfortable sensation. Lin Fu didn’t know what was going on, but the creepy feeling made her pull back her foot and stay in the car.
Watching Luo Sheng’s car start up in the distance, Lin Fu’s gaze darkened. She stepped on the gas and followed.
Nan Chu was currently lying on the sofa, patting her full stomach with satisfaction. After letting out a burp, she felt a bit drowsy. Seeing the other two busy in the kitchen, she felt a little embarrassed. Just as she was about to get up to help, she saw Nan Shuwan emerge from the kitchen.
So, she immediately sat back down and started scrolling through short videos on her phone.
“Are you… sleeping at my place tonight?” Nan Shuwan asked after quite a while. Feeling it might be too abrupt, she quickly added, “I mean, everyone is tired today. You can go back tomorrow morning to pack and prepare. How about it?”
Nan Chu kept her head down, tapping away at her phone, ignoring her.
Luo Sheng came out then, sitting beside Nan Shuwan to help. “Your sister is right. Stay with us tonight. We’ll arrange tasks tomorrow morning; there are still a lot of supplies that need to be perfected and purchased.”
Us?
Nan Chu’s eyelids twitched. She caught that specific keyword in the sentence and felt a bit annoyed, as if she were being excluded while the two of them were the actual “family.”
But Nan Chu didn’t show it. She just let out a muffled hum, waiting a while before speaking. “Fine. Anyway, the medicine is on me… the food and clothes you’ve hoarded are decent, but wouldn’t it be too boring to stay home every day during an apocalypse?”
At this thought, Nan Chu began to ponder deeply. “Once the power and water go out… tsk, we need to buy more multiplayer brain games. And fitness can’t be neglected; tomorrow I’m going to buy a new punching bag and gloves…”
Nan Chu grew more excited as she spoke, her “inner chuunibyou” soul catching fire. She had seen posts online where bloggers used their imagination to tell people how to hoard for the end of the world. Now that it was becoming a reality, she felt she should implement it properly.
She mumbled to herself for a long time, completely unaware that the two women opposite her were watching her with half-smiles. When she finally looked up, those two gazes made her skin crawl.
She coughed uncomfortably, feeling baffled. “What are you looking at me for?” She glanced at Luo Sheng’s slender arms and started “firing shots.” “You shouldn’t stay idle either. Practice more when the time comes!”
Suddenly targeted, Luo Sheng looked down at her own thin frame and then at Nan Chu’s solid, muscular arms. She tucked her chin in, her expression losing its confidence. Both of us are Alphas; how can there be such a big difference…
Nan Shuwan was snickering on the side until Nan Chu shot her a sharp glare. “You too.”
Well, that shut her up as well.
After eating, Nan Chu went for a few laps around the neighborhood to digest, while Nan Shuwan went back to her own unit. Exhausted after a long day, she showered and just wanted to lie in bed under the AC to rest.
After her walk, Nan Chu ultimately chose to “make do” for the night in 1501. She wasn’t quite ready to stay in the same space as Nan Shuwan yet. Luo Sheng tossed her a new set of one-size-fits-all underwear and pajamas. After Nan Chu finished washing up, she was assigned a guest room.
Before bed, Luo Sheng asked her, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll ‘kill the donkey once the grinding is done’—kick you out once you get the medicine?”
Nan Chu thought for a moment and threw the words from the afternoon back at her: “I don’t trust you either.”
Morning came quickly. Luo Sheng got up early to gather everyone, spending half an hour detailing the plan for the remaining days.
After the briefing, Nan Chu prepared to go back and pack her things and buy the specific items she needed. She was already contacting manufacturers for the medical supplies. Without middlemen, she got the lowest wholesale price. If they hurried, the delivery would arrive the day after tomorrow, and Luo Sheng could use the ring to store them.
Nan Shuwan planned to top off the basic supplies. she observed the terrain of Luo Sheng’s complex; it was on high ground, and though there were neighbors, they were sparse and not concentrated. There were no mountains nearby to cause landslides. Combined with the airtight renovations and ample space, it was a solid choice for a shelter.
But… at this thought, Nan Shuwan pulled out her phone and called Li Wan. The call was answered quickly. “Director Nan, is something wrong?”
“Li Wan, send me the information on that second-hand apartment from Boss Zhang again.”
“Why do you suddenly want that?” Li Wan asked while searching, then sent it over via WeChat. “That place is quite remote and the air quality isn’t great. It’s basically a warehouse now.”
“It’s nothing, just a personal matter.” Nan Shuwan clicked the message and scanned the location. It was about two kilometers southwest of Luo Sheng’s place. A top-floor unit of over 300 square meters with an attic—it was indeed quite good.
She didn’t have time to look for other houses, so she prepared to hang up. Before she did, she hesitated and said, “Li Wan, buy as much food, drink, and winter clothing as you can over the next few days. This is… an order.”
After the call was disconnected, Li Wan was confused. What does this mean? Why is Director Nan ordering her to buy these strange things? However, she always listened to Director Nan. Perhaps it was a year-end bonus for employees that would be reimbursed later. Regardless, she decided to buy them first.
Luo Sheng drove to the seed wholesale market. After a lap inside, she decided to get a bit of everything. She bought several hundred pounds of various vegetable and fruit seeds. Money flowed like water as she loaded several trucks and had them sent to the abandoned factory.
There were still many supplies there that hadn’t been moved. Now that the villa had expanded and added a large back garden, there was more than enough room for everything.
Once the delivery drivers left, she used her mind to pull everything into the space.
Next, Luo Sheng began supplementing self-defense items. She visited a security equipment store and bought a pile of stab-proof vests, shields, and helmets. She bought dozens of sets, and they wouldn’t all fit in the trunk, forcing her to make several trips.
The day passed in a blur of hoarding. She skipped breakfast and lunch. By 6:00 PM, Luo Sheng received a call from her mother, informing her that she had landed and was waiting at the airport.
She agreed quickly and rushed to the airport without stopping.
There was some traffic, but she eventually arrived. The airport was massive; Luo Sheng searched several circles without finding her mother, so she called again to ask for her specific location.
Just as she pulled out her phone, someone tapped her on the back. Luo Sheng turned to see her mother’s beaming face. She let out a massive sigh of relief, feeling moved—she had finally gotten her safely to her side.
Her mother’s face looked a bit haggard, and though her frame was sturdy, she was a bit thin. Luo Sheng thought she’d have to feed her plenty of nutritious food to fill her out later.
Having not seen her for so long, she was emotional. Memories of her previous life flooded back, turning into a stream of water irrigating her parched heart. In the crowded airport, Luo Sheng couldn’t help but give her mother a huge bear hug.
“Aiya, Nuonuo, take it easy, hahaha.” Luo Xiaoli was pushed back a few steps by the hug. Holding a suitcase in one hand, she used the other to pat her daughter’s head. “Alright, alright, you’re so big now, why are you acting like a little baby?”
Hearing this, Luo Sheng slowly let go. Now wasn’t the time for reminiscing; they could talk later. She took her mother’s hand and pointed ahead. “Mom, my car is parked just ahead. Let’s get you home to rest, then we’ll go eat. I booked a five-star hotel; we’re going to have a great meal and catch up!”
“Daughter, you’re so thoughtful!” Luo Xiaoli smiled and patted Luo Sheng’s shoulder, but her feet stayed planted. Her expression was a bit difficult to read, but she didn’t delay long. Under Luo Sheng’s confused gaze, she finally called out to a row of seats in the lounge: “Alright, you two, hurry up and come over!”
Luo Sheng looked up to see a limping middle-aged man walking toward them, holding the hand of a stout, chubby boy.
Her heart skipped a beat, and her expression instantly darkened.
Isn’t this her lazy, good-for-nothing little uncle who had run off to another province years ago to marry and settle down??
