Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 29
Luo Xiaoli saw her daughter arrive and hurriedly gestured for her to sit, looking as if she wanted Luo Sheng to swear a sisterhood pact with Nan Shuwan right then and there. Luo Sheng felt helpless. “Mom, this isn’t really necessary…”
Nan Shuwan smiled, her tone intentionally light. “What’s wrong? You don’t want to be sisters? Then what do you want to be?”
Nan Chu, watching Nan Shuwan’s seductive expression from the side, felt a shudder run through her entire body. Even though she and her sister hadn’t seen each other for years, they had grown up together; she could read exactly what the other’s words and body language meant.
If she wasn’t mistaken, this woman was intentionally flirting and throwing “electric sparks” just now, right? At this thought, Nan Chu broke out in goosebumps. She silently made an exaggerated gagging face, unable to stand Nan Shuwan’s “blooming iron tree” act, so she immediately made the decision for them.
In the next instant, she clasped her hands together and barked at Luo Sheng with full vigor, “Greetings, Second Sister! Please accept your younger sister’s bow!”
Luo Sheng & Nan Shuwan: “???”
The matter naturally fizzled out, treated as a joke.
The torrential rain outside still showed no signs of stopping. From time to time, thunder exploded in the sky, rumbling loudly. Luo Sheng stood by the window looking down, feeling that if this continued, the accumulated water would soon submerge the lower floors.
In just half a day, the rainfall had been so high. This sensation made Luo Sheng very uneasy. She looked up at the sky filled with heavy, dark clouds. For some reason, she felt this disaster was coming even more swiftly and severely than in her previous life.
She checked the time; it was nearly noon, but the sky was as black as night. Luo Sheng opened the group chat; few people were talking, and those who were only complained about how the ghost of a weather had suddenly dropped in temperature so sharply that their teeth were chattering upon waking up.
The property management posted several messages regarding weather forecasts, advising everyone to stay warm and prevent colds due to the severe drop in temperature.
Turning on the news, they were also discussing the sudden drop in temperature. Heavy rain had begun across the country; in some areas, rainfall exceeded 120mm within twelve hours. A red rainstorm warning was issued, with conservative estimates suggesting heavy rainfall would continue for the next week.
Most people, though worried, didn’t take it too seriously. They curled up in their blankets to sleep, enjoying the rare leisure time, thinking the rain would stop in a few days.
Luo Sheng pulled the curtains tight and turned back to the kitchen to help. Luo Xiaoli said she wanted to personally cook a few of her signature dishes for everyone today. Nan Shuwan helped as an assistant inside, while Nan Chu stood in the back trying to interfere but was shooed away for being clumsy. Finally, in a fit of pique, she sat back on the sofa and started playing games.
Luo Xiaoli chopped and marinated several chicken drumsticks, pan-frying them until golden brown on both sides before pouring in the prepared seasonings to reduce the sauce. Finally, she scored the meat and plated it. Luo Sheng stewed a winter melon and corn soup. The mother and daughter each made a few dishes, and the other two came over to help bring them to the dining table.
At that moment, another clap of thunder rumbled. Nan Shuwan let out a small cry, covering her ears and nearly losing her balance. Luo Sheng reached out to steady her, saying, “Careful,” but noticing her pale face, she couldn’t help but feel concerned. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I’m just a little afraid of thunder. I’ve been like this since I was a kid…” Nan Shuwan patted her chest and sat down.
Since her parents passed away, she felt a bit afraid whenever it rained and thundered. Last night, the sound of the rain and lightning was too loud; Nan Shuwan hadn’t slept well at all, and there were faint dark circles around her eyes.
When she was a student living with Nan Chu, whenever it thundered, she would run to her sister’s room to sleep with her so she wouldn’t be as scared.
After separating from Nan Chu and working for so long, she had no one to rely on and was a bit better than before, but she still kept the habit of needing something by her side to sleep. That’s why there were two large plushies on Nan Shuwan’s bed in 1502…
“Then tonight, you should just come over here to sleep.” Luo Sheng said flatly, keeping her head down to pick up food.
Luo Xiaoli put several pieces of honey-glazed chicken in Nan Shuwan’s bowl and served her a bowl of corn and winter melon soup. Drinking a bowl of steaming soup was exceptionally comfortable in this weather. Nan Chu was very supportive, praising the food incessantly while shoveling it down, making Luo Xiaoli laugh heartily.
“It’s normal to sleep holding a plushie. I’ve noticed young people always have their little quirks, haha.” Luo Xiaoli tapped the back of Luo Sheng’s hand with her chopsticks and said with a laugh, “Take my Nuonuo here, for example. When she was little, she loved to bite things. Oh my, back when she was nursing, she bit through all her pacifiers! She got much better as she grew up, but I don’t know if that habit has completely disappeared!”
“Mom! What are you saying…” Luo Sheng couldn’t listen anymore and hurriedly stopped the talkative Luo Xiaoli. That habit was from so many years ago; why was she airing her “dirty laundry” in front of others? Biting pacifiers…
Luo Sheng believed she had long since outgrown those habits, though she occasionally bit the corner of her blanket while sleeping—that shouldn’t count, right?
“What, you’re shy now that you’re grown up?” Luo Xiaoli saw her daughter’s ears turn red and stopped teasing her with a smile.
Nan Shuwan nearly burst out laughing, while Nan Chu remarked thoughtfully from the side, “Biting pacifiers as a kid, then as an adult she must bite…” She stopped suddenly, slapped her own mouth, and said awkwardly, “Forget I said anything.”
Luo Sheng felt like she had a lump in her throat. She huffed and lowered her head to eat, ignoring them.
Night came quickly, and the temperature was several degrees lower than during the day. Nan Shuwan brought her clothes, bedding, and daily necessities over from 1502, letting Luo Sheng store the rest in the space.
She felt safer here; after all, being together provided a greater sense of security, and the soundproofing was better, muffling the thunder and lightning. However, there were only three bedrooms in Luo Sheng’s place. With four people now, they had to reassign them.
“I’ll sleep with my mom, and you take my room.” Luo Sheng immediately offered her bedroom. The master bedroom where her mother slept was large enough for the two of them.
But Nan Shuwan felt a bit embarrassed and suggested after a thought, “You and Auntie should keep your own rooms. How about Nan Chu and I…” She looked toward Nan Chu.
Unsurprisingly, Nan Chu wasn’t willing. She didn’t want to share a room with Nan Shuwan. Even though they had been together for a while, it didn’t mean the rift in her heart had completely vanished. She rolled her eyes and patted Luo Sheng’s shoulder. “You little ‘couple’ should obviously sleep in one room, right?”
Luo Sheng rolled her eyes, ignoring her. Now that everyone knew they were a fake couple, such comments were useless. So after some back-and-forth, Luo Sheng ended up giving up her bedroom.
The night’s sleep was quite sweet. Nan Shuwan had a good dream while hugging the plushie she brought over. Everyone found their own small warmth nestled inside during the storm.
Another night passed. This time, the light in the sky was a bit whiter, not as dark as yesterday, but the rain showed no sign of stopping and had even stirred up weak typhoons.
News reports were still full of climate warnings. On the internet, there were many more trending searches and posts about the rainstorm than yesterday. This rare, once-in-decades storm began to spark intense discussion.
Predictions and worries were everywhere. The first floors in some areas had already been submerged. Emergency rescues were being carried out, and there were even reports of people being struck by lightning in other provinces.
Luo Sheng’s area wasn’t much better. Many cars on the street were already waterlogged, and the underground parking garage in the complex seemed to have taken in water; the group chat was now full of cursing.
[Happy Community Building 03 Owners Group]
0701 Wang Zhigang: Damn, is my car going to be flooded in the garage?? @PropertyManagement, did you close the rolling shutter doors??
0302 Zhang Chun: Good point. Looking out the window today, the water is nearly half a floor deep. My car is there too, so are they closed?!
0103 Wu Taohong: Stop it, the floor in my place is about to soak through. What exactly is going on? Is my house going to be flooded?!
…
More and more people in the group began to join the discussion. Finally, the property management came out to soothe them, saying the rolling shutters had been closed in advance and the garage was currently dry.
Regarding the rain, they asked the owners to stay home patiently and not go out. After all, with typhoons, lightning, and heavy rain outside, the water accumulation on the roads was deep; any carelessness would lead to injury or even death. If there were emergencies, they would contact rescue teams. Overall, they managed to calm things down.
It was only the first few days, and residents weren’t short on food yet. Hearing what the management said, no one dared to go out; they could only huddle at home.
Luo Sheng closed the group chat with melancholy. Nan Shuwan had also seen the news and sat on the sofa with a cup of milk, looking equally worried.
Nan Chu started exercising by hitting a sandbag, making a thud-thud sound in her room. Luo Xiaoli was interested; she had done a lot of farm work in the countryside and was physically strong—stronger than many young people today. So Nan Chu took her along to practice boxing as a form of exercise.
Luo Sheng wasn’t idle either. The fitness equipment Nan Chu bought included pull rings for arm strength. Since adding the Strength point, Luo Sheng didn’t find them as difficult to use. The temperature was dropping fast; they had to strengthen their physical constitutions.
Nan Shuwan followed along by lifting dumbbells, but her strength wasn’t great, and her arms started to ache after just a few reps. Watching Luo Sheng exercise made her a bit surprised—she wasn’t as weak as she had imagined… Nan Shuwan felt a surge of competitiveness and continued her workout.
And so, the four of them spent the day exercising at home. Luo Sheng felt refreshed. In the evening, they each showered and huddled together to watch a drama after dinner. It was already past ten, and Luo Xiaoli had gone to sleep first.
“Hey, let’s try arm wrestling?” Luo Sheng, feeling confident after a day of exercise, challenged Nan Chu.
Nan Chu was a bit dismissive. She rolled up her sleeves and tested Luo Sheng at the table, but Luo Sheng was defeated quickly. This bit of strength wasn’t enough to shake Nan Chu, though Nan Chu noted that Luo Sheng’s strength was better than she had expected…
Nan Shuwan was eager to try and wanted to arm wrestle them too. Luo Sheng smiled and took her hand, about to say something, when Nan Shuwan’s expression suddenly went dark, and she made a “shh” gesture.
Luo Sheng didn’t quite understand, but in the next second, she heard her say:
“Shh, listen. Someone is knocking on the door.”
At those words, everyone instantly went silent. Luo Sheng’s heart tightened as she strained to hear the movement Nan Shuwan mentioned.
Sure enough, the front door was being knocked, one hit after another, echoing through the silent living room. The thud-thud sound was exceptionally abrupt.
In the dead of night, it made their skin crawl.
