Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 51
“I’m not playing anymore, I’m not playing!” Nan Chu threw her cards down, thoroughly dissatisfied. “Tell me, everyone, what is the point of this game?!”
“The Werewolf card went around a full circle and never even touched my hand. And the key is that person surnamed Luo—the one who got the Seer—she was totally going easy! If you pulled this in a professional game shop, you’d get beaten up!!”
Nan Chu’s complaints filled the air, her finger wagging between Luo Sheng and Nan Shuwan. Her use of “going easy” was clearly pointed, but the accused parties didn’t look guilty at all. Instead, Luo Sheng replied righteously, “First off, I didn’t go easy. I gave plenty of hints. If I had just jumped out directly, I would’ve been game over, right? As for you drawing a Villager every time, that’s just a luck issue.”
Nan Shuwan chimed in, “Does my brain even need people to go easy on me? You’re the one who needs it.”
The fact that they weren’t reflecting but were instead insulting her intelligence made Nan Chu beat her chest in frustration. She couldn’t actually refute them, so she finally resorted to being a rogue. “So what? If I say you were, you were! Forget it, I’m going to read a physical book to cultivate my mind. I can’t be bothered to argue with you!”
The young people, having finished a round of Monopoly and a few games of Werewolf, finally dispersed to find things to do. Meanwhile, Su Rong and Feng Xi, who had watched the whole process, were still a bit confused.
“Did you understand that?”
Su Rong rubbed her chin. “Mhm… I’ve never played that. It seems like a kids’ game. How about we ask Luo Sheng for a deck of playing cards and play a round of ‘Run Fast’?”
Luo Xiaoli let out a yawn. She had been bored out of her mind, but as soon as she heard about playing cards, her eyes lit up, and she immediately volunteered to join.
So, the three of them went back to the room to start a simple card game on a small table.
Qiao Bai and Yang Suitong, the affectionate couple, felt that as long as they were together, everything was fun. They huddled on the sofa, playing with each other’s fingers and engaging in childish games like pushing each other to see who would fall first.
Yang Suitong’s strength was no match for Qiao Bai’s; she fell into the other’s arms and was immediately “robbed” of a kiss on the lips. Her cheeks flushed red, and she playfully punched Qiao Bai with a small fist before being laughed at and pulled into a tight hug.
Luo Sheng and Nan Shuwan went back to sit in the mezzanine. On the table were several new grass-woven items—rabbits and cats. Luo Sheng pointed to them, her voice full of pride. “How about it? A big improvement, right?”
Nan Shuwan smiled. “You actually wove them. Not bad, very obedient.”
Obidient? Luo Sheng didn’t think she was a submissive person, so she intentionally made trouble. “Of course. How would I dare ignore the director’s words…”
She brought up the other’s former status as a company director again, even though it was useless in the apocalypse. It was a clear tease. Nan Shuwan’s gaze shifted over, her eyes narrowing slightly. “In the past, you didn’t happen to secretly complain about me being stuck-up, did you?”
Luo Sheng’s smile froze. Good heavens, how did she figure that out??
Countered, she shut her mouth because she actually had complained exactly like that…
To change the subject, Luo Sheng asked, “What animal do you think I’m like?”
The shift was so sudden it left Nan Shuwan a bit dazed. she hadn’t considered the question. She gave a “tsk” and began to inspect Luo Sheng’s face, even reaching out to tilt the other’s chin as if examining an exquisite artifact.
At the moment Nan Shuwan’s fingertips touched her, Luo Sheng grew tense. The other woman moved closer and closer, bringing with her a light floral scent. Luo Sheng instinctively lowered her eyes, looking at the fair, slender neck just above the other’s collar.
Even though she had just argued internally that she wasn’t obedient, at this moment of touch, she looked exactly like a tamed, well-behaved little beast.
Nan Shuwan’s breath was hot, moist, and soft. Her fragrance was as elegant as a dusting of snow, drifting like a veil past Luo Sheng’s nose. That faint heat was enough to melt thin ice.
Luo Sheng’s heart hammered; she didn’t dare meet the other’s eyes, fearing Nan Shuwan would hear her heartbeat in the quiet space—even if that was impossible.
“Mhm…” Nan Shuwan lowered her fingers, pretending to think. “I think you’re like…”
The intentional pause naturally piqued Luo Sheng’s curiosity. The slight distance allowed her heart rate to return to normal, and she began to look forward to the animal persona Nan Shuwan would give her.
Then she saw a cunning smile spread across Nan Shuwan’s lips as she said playfully, “Like a little pig.”
Luo Sheng: “Huh?”
Nan Chu flipped through a few pages of her novel, feeling increasingly sleepy. Rubbing her temples, she felt the house was far too quiet. Did everyone go to sleep?
Wanting to keep reading, she got out of bed and stretched, then went to find Luo Sheng to get a cup of coffee from the space to wake herself up.
Passing Su Rong’s room, she peeked through the ajar door and saw Feng Xi laughing as she fell into Su Rong’s arms, with Luo Xiaoli sitting opposite them. The three were playing cards and laughing. She gave a “yuck” and walked away with a look of mock disgust.
Back in the living room, she saw Qiao Bai and Yang Suitong’s lips meeting. Nan Chu shuddered on the spot, her skin crawling with “mushy” goosebumps. Rolling her eyes, she headed straight for the mezzanine.
But to her total surprise, the moment she climbed up, she saw Luo Sheng and Nan Shuwan with their noses nearly touching. The atmosphere was incredibly ambiguous; from her angle, it looked like they were about to kiss. Nan Chu let out a few dry retched sounds and fled, unable to take it.
Is there no justice left?? Is everyone doing ‘pairing literature’ here?!!
Nan Chu wailed and complained internally, wishing she could find some zombies to beat up. Charging back toward her room, she suddenly spotted Liu Lin alone in her room. Her heart finally felt a bit more balanced.
Thank heavens, there’s still one fellow single dog left!
Nan Chu happily entered to chat for a bit, only to see Liu Lin drawing something on a piece of paper. It looked like a sketch?
Hearing footsteps behind her, Liu Lin immediately blocked the paper and spun around. Seeing it was Nan Chu, she exhaled in relief. “Sister Nan Chu… why did you come in?”
Seeing the girl’s startled expression, Nan Chu realized she probably should have knocked. She scratched her head and apologized, then pointed to the paper. “I didn’t know you could draw! You’re so multi-talented!”
“No, it’s just a hobby,” Liu Lin said, her face turning red. “I’m not very good at it…”
Nan Chu didn’t believe her. “Aiya, don’t be so humble. Let me see what you’re drawing.”
She propped her hands on the table and leaned down to look. Liu Lin didn’t block it very well, leaving a large gap that made it easy to see the content. Since it had been seen anyway, Liu Lin simply gave up and moved aside.
Uh, so ugly.
Nan Chu was a bit wide-eyed. This “crooked mouth and crossed eyes” style meant the girl truly wasn’t being humble.
However, the cool, detached posture and the deliberate attempt to portray a brooding, charming profile… why did it look more and more like…
Nan Chu was startled. The drawing looked like her!
After a long day of travel, Tao Zhihe’s group was exhausted. As it grew late, she spotted an empty building and ordered the group to stay there for the night to regain their strength before continuing.
Following the waves of disasters and zombies, the people living in these houses had either died of hunger in the rain or been assimilated into zombies. Most doors were ajar, allowing them to enter any unit at will.
After pulling over, Tao Zhihe and Lin Fu led the way into the hallway. Holding their weapons, they looked around cautiously and spotted two zombies remaining in the corridor. However, their legs had been partially severed, so their movement was slow.
Tao Zhihe dispatched them easily. The rest of the group brought the inflatable rafts in and followed. The air was thick with the putrid stench of rotting corpses, making them nauseous.
Holding her nose, she entered the innermost room. Seeing several corpses on the floor, Tao Zhihe frowned. Her subordinates, quick to catch her drift, immediately tossed the bodies out.
Lin Fu opened the windows to air out the room and sprayed some air freshener. After twenty minutes, the smell was finally tolerable.
The group split between two apartments to sleep. With three bedrooms in each unit, they stayed close together to avoid trouble.
Tao Zhihe yawned. Lying on the bed, she felt her muscles aching. She massaged her shoulders, enduring the soreness until she finally fell asleep, a light snore soon emerging.
Lin Fu, sleeping in the next room, couldn’t settle. She stared at the ceiling with many things on her mind, but the most important was survival. She had been playing along with Tao Zhihe for so long just so the woman would bring her safely to the shelter. Once the goal was achieved, it didn’t matter how many others died…
In this apocalypse, she spent every day on the edge of death. She was tired and missed her family, but she couldn’t contact her mother… A glimmer of tears appeared in Lin Fu’s eyes, but she quickly suppressed it. In her daze, she eventually drifted off to sleep.
The sound of hurried footsteps suddenly rang out in the corridor, accompanied by heavy breathing and the sound of gnawing on bones. Tao Zhihe was jolted awake; the sound wasn’t loud, but she was exceptionally sensitive. In the apocalypse, even the smallest noise could be captured by her ears.
Tao Zhihe opened her eyes instantly, reached for the long knife under her pillow, and rolled out of bed. She woke the others in the room, ordering everyone to go out and see what was happening.
It was dark, only two in the morning. The cool wind in the corridor was freezing. The group followed the source of the sound, their hearts racing with the fear of seeing a horde of zombies.
Each person gripped their weapon, their palms slick with sweat.
But Tao Zhihe suddenly stopped. Following her gaze, the others saw a pair of eyes shining with a faint green light in the distance.
Looking closely, a large dog was standing there, its canine teeth bared, gasping for breath. Between its sharp teeth were pieces of rotting flesh. Beneath its paws lay the carcass of a zombie.
In the dead of night, those ghost-like animal eyes were a terrifying sight to behold.
